ive had a Fuze for almoist a year now and i really like the phone. the other day something went wrong on the phone and the screen just simply wont work. its black no matter what. the phone actually does come on because it vibrates when i turn it on after taking battery in/out. i can even answer phone calls and adjust volume with side buttons and everything. its just the screen that does not work.
i called the warranty place and they send me a new Fuze which is good, but im a bit scared sending this one back to them (which i have to do within the next 5 days). will they find out the original Hard SPL and ROM is not loaded onto the phone? i had a custom ROM on there and im afraid they might discover this and charge me a ridiculous amount of money for my new phone. does anyone have any insight about this or what i should do?

Recently my S710 developed an annoying habit of having its screen randomly go black. It's not that the screen actually goes off, since there is still a back light and you can still see very faint image of what should be on screen if you look at it from a certain angle, but not enough for it to be useable.
It started happening after I flashed my rom to Gonzo's Mona Lisa, but I think that's more coincidence than anything else, since it happens with all the ROMs I've tried.
It's not a constant thing, either. It doesn't happen when I do anything in particular. I have noticed, weirdly, that when it does happen while I'm trying to write a text message, turning on caps makes the screen visible. As soon as I press anything else, it goes blank again. I usually just have to wait for it to return by itself. This is, as you can imagine, pretty annoying when you're trying to write messages.
I hate to think this, but reckon it's a hardware problem? I am really loathe to send it in for repair, I'm sure it will cost a fortune.
Hi i got the same trouble,
it became too anoying to use the phone
but the only solution is to bring it back to repair center because they have to change the mainboard and then you get an new IMEI number too.
hope you still have a warranty of the cellphone on it because it's almost the price of the phone if you wanna to be fixed the problem.

Have you installed Mesh?
I have noticed that this only happens when the Mesh client is running.

No dont know even "Mesh" so i m sure it was because the hardware, so decided after 2 month of having the problem to bring it back to the store and there they send it to a repair services after 4 weeks i got it back with a new front cover and new lcd module but the problem was still there and i had to wait another 4 weeks to get it back from the repair service and then like i said in my first post i got a new mainboard with a fresh new IMEI Now i m back with a new phone but i waited 8 weeks
so i dont think it's because a software . Because i tested 2 month before sending it to fix the problem (with warranty )

Hm, How long is warranty? A year? In that case, I do have a warranty. Sounds like this is gonna be a rollercoaster ride, especially considering how reluctant people in my country are to do anything without trying to make it seem like it was your fault.
If you want to take advantage of the warranty, you will have to flash back the original ROM of course.

Yes you have to restaure the original flash, and the warranty is 2 year because mine it had 1 year and 3 month old when i to it to the repair service
for the problem they can not fix it in another way i m sure of that so i guess it's not your fault at all or you have to ask a new one
hope you will go ASAP to the repair service

Oh, I have flashed back to an original HTC rom just out of curiousity that it might fix it . Thanks, I'm sure I'm on a pretty big mission here.
My space bar is no longer functioning properly, and I'm out of my warranty period on my Fuze through AT&T. It will sometimes register one hit of my spacebar as two, three, or sometimes even four spaces; other times, it wont register a button press at all.
I searched and came up with some similar problems, but the only solutions I saw were to take off the key. I just had a simple question for that...if you take off the key, will the entire keyboard come off with it? And if not, what's the proper way to remove the key, and what should I do once I have it off?
the fuze hasnt been out for a year yet. its still under warranty. go get it replaced.
Should I just take it to an AT&T store?
you need to find a att service center. if you call att they should be able to tell you where one is.
call att handset assistance info line at 1-800-801-1101 at the que enter your phone number press 3 for phone functioning improperly and wait for a operator. Alert them of the problem they will send out a handset you send ur broken one back providing it isnt water damaged or physically damaged you wont be charged. heres a few hints incase you dont know your water indicator sticker (usually located under and on the battery)should be white or on some phones have red or purple x's. they will ask you the color of you battery contacts they should be gold not corroded or green. they will ask you if the phone has been dropped which should be a no as well. all of these questions will determine whether or not you get a warranty of your handset from at&t or you are told by at&t to send it to the manufacturer(hope to get it back in 4-6 weeks) also if he bought a refurb warranty is only 90 days i believe but i havent seen refurb fuzes so otherwise unless he got one of the first days he should be under warranty.

I have exactly the same problem. Sounds like it is a weakness of this model...
I called AT&T and was on the phone for an hour. Apparently they sold me a refurbished product without ever telling me that I was paying for one, and they won't be covering a warranty on it. Outside of that, I'm definitely not paying $125 more to have the phone replaced, so I'm kind of stuck right now. I've had a lot of problems with the Fuze with dropped calls and other things, now my keyboard is going bad, it only makes matters worse.
Think it would be advised to give HTC a call?
Things get stranger...I called HTC and they said my phone was never refurbished through them and that it shouldn't be classified as refurbished. But, they are honoring my warranty through February of next year. So, I will be getting it fixed, I just have to pay for shipping and figure out what I'm going to do for a phone for two weeks.
I'm having the exact same issue with my backspace key I installed energy rom, so idk if its rom specific
Not good.
EDIT:
I flashed my old stock rom back on, and funny enough the issue is gone, its not apparent on wm6.1, so its either a 6.5 issue, or a rom kitchen issue.
I tried 2 6.5 roms Energy rom an TAIG rom, both have awfull keyboard issues, where if i pressed shift twice itll make a £ symbol.
Try using Kfortouchpro and see if that hides some issues.
Att's refurbished HTC phones are crap!
They sent me a refurb Kaiser once and the keyboard seemed to be pushed down so it wouldnt click everytime you typed! IT was so annoying!
Your best bet is to call HTC directly and explain the situation to them.

Hold up, I'm using Energy Rom 2009605 from NRGZ28. It was a very early version of 6.5 IIRC. I think I'm just going to flash to the updated ROM from HTC, and if it happens on that, I'll know for sure it is a hardware issue and I'll send it into HTC.

I think your fears are right, safest bet is to go stock on everything. First thing is to get the ATT ROM from here:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-fuze/downloads/
This will install the latest stock ROM and Radio. I verified the download works.
Next, go here to get the stock SPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410150
Follow the directions at the bottom of the first post.
Good luck!
thank you this is going to be difficult without a screen but im going to try !
wow my screen miraculously started working after being nonresponsive for 5 days i was able to restore everything to stock
they might think its fishy when i send the phone back in and everything works fine but oh well, it definitely did NOT work for like 4-5 days...

Okay, googled, and bing'd the crap out of this and it looks like so far everyone who's had this issue has had to send their phones in for repair, but before doing that I thought I'd ask here aswell to see if anyone has been able to solve this problem.
I've had my HTC Surround for about a month now and this morning when I went to use it I noticed I couldn't read my emails, it said something like "Oops we were not able to retrieve your email." I thought no problem I'll just restart my phone. I turned it off, and turned it back on. Ever since then the phone has been stuck on the white HTC start screen. I've pulled the battery four times and tried restarting it. I've restarted it holding the volume up and down buttons and I get a bootloader screen (no option to hard reset). I can plug it into my computer on the bootloader screen and the computer recognizes the device as an HTC SD card. (This is nice to know seeing as I can, if I ever get the phone working again, load files on the phone's SD card that Zune won't let me) however this is bad because Zune will not recognize the phone.
Sooo, anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it themselves? I don't want to have to send it to HTC because I have no warranty. I bought the phone used. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
And this is running 7004, I have no unlocked the phone or tampered with it in any way. (yet)
Have you looked in the development forum for your stock ROM and tried flashing it from the bootloader?
I couldn't find a rom to flash. Maybe I will just use this as an opportunity to switch to Sprint and buy an Arrive. That way I can be done with ATT's crappy service.
I'm on my third surround now, with both previous ones dead with the exact same situation you have described. I called ATT, had them replace them on warranty for free. I'm waiting for this third one to die so I can get a different model
P.S. I tried flashing the stock ROM, hard resetting, and everything else trying to get both phones back to life but I ended up just having to warranty them. Call up ATT and have them send you a new one.
Thanks, I was able to do a warranty claim. Technically I wasn't allowed to because I bought the phone outright (used) on craigslist. But since the person at ATT was lazy and didn't check when I went in the sent me to my local device support center and I was able to walk out with a new phone in 5 minutes.
Hope this doesn't keep occurring though. If they were to ever check how the phone was purchased I'd be screwed.

I had the same problem with my Surround a few months ago. Then I had another one that kept losing the data off the device. I'm on my third one now and it has been holding up for three months.
I also noticed in the store that all the display models of the phone were having the exact same issue.
I think they changed something up, as this new one seems to be hanging in there much better than the last two.
