Kaiser improvements / Kaiser dead / Tilt I / Final graphics performance 2D etc - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

I have been using the Tilt (original Kaiser) since the day it
came out. I think it is a great device. However, the
BIGGEST COMPLAINT I have always had was the SLOW graphics.
I am still running Windows Mobile 6.0 waiting for a
good / stable ROM to come out by someone with great
graphics performace. There have been some fantastic cooked ROMS
for the device but I have always held off waiting for
something with good graphics drivers in it. Did I miss
something that is worth moving to now that 6.1 and even 6.5
roms are out and about?
I have seen a lot of posts about which roms are best,
etc, etc and why but graphics performace has always been an
issue from what I have seen...
There are so many posts and even entire sites (see
below if interested) about our device and the poor
performance. Is there finally a decent solution to speed up
at least simple 2D drawing operations, including the
user interfaces of normal applications?
Does a good Mobile 6.1 or 6.5 ROM make much difference
in 2D or 3D on the Kaiser vs 6.0? Perhaps that
is the easiest solution to getting good graphics performance??!
Since the Tilt uses the MSM720x chipset and many other
devices use that chipset, has someone finally cooked a
rom for the tilt with good accelerated drivers from another
device yet and that is a good solution?
ALL COMMENTS WELCOME.
Of course good OpenGL ES and D3D acceleration would be great too.
Seems our device by default is only using software mode
Many now say our Kaiser is dead / "obsolete hardware" now and
decent drivers are not worth anyone's trouble.
I'm not sure what I think about this.
I understand there have been a million posts
and lots of threads like:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339745&page=109
and even
http://www.htcclassaction.org/driverprogress.php#update_20080717_1
which seems to have ended over a year ago.
Perhaps that was when someone found a way of enabling
OpenGL ES on Android? Either way, can someone make some comments
on what they think?

Look around you at the 1000s of posts, and try the search button. We solved the graphics issue a long time ago.

Nothing to do with ROM Development and as polyrhythmic said we solved the graphics issue a long time ago.
On that note thread closed.

ATT TILT (us) .VS. HTC TYTN 2 (euro)

I am very skeptical about the specs with my unit compared to the TYTN 2 euro device.. I have just purchased the ATT TILT and I am pretty sure that the capabilities may be a lot greater on the European version. The camera on the Tilt as far as, video recording is very bad & the fps is also sluggish. I saw a youtube clip with the HTC TYTN 2 (Euro) & the performance seems a lot better. The guy who made the clip on youtube proceeded to show the speed of his camera while recording and it looked like it was capped @ 30 fps.. Why are both devices around the same prices yet, are not receiving the same performance? I am new to this site & I am new to modifying my device I was wondering if their are performance cabs for my Tilt or If any of you guys have any tweaked out ROMS to help me with performance this would be a big help. Thanks Much - Cheemsz

In term of hardware, there is no different except it missed a front conference camera. You are right, ATT Rom is sucks. You can do a limited tweak, but if you want to have an excellent performance on your Tilt, you can change the ROM. there are so many third party rom that you can find in this kaiser forum. I myself using a Duty's rom.
This vs That, Tweak this, Tweak That!!!!
Read through the Kaiser threads and you will find many comparisons. I even remember seeing Tilt vs iPhone.
Also read this first;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=221545
And then this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314615
See the thing is.. I dont want the Dutty ROM.. its too much like the iPhone interface.. I just want the ATT Tilt interface with a better performance tweak I dont like the Dutty interface it really looks slow and a lot of people I have seen on youtube are using it.

why don't new wm6.1 roms support direct draw?

These roms are so much faster, i really like them, but my only holdback is no direct draw. Is there a reason why the rom's cant support both the Diamond Drivers and Direct Draw? or has no one really goten around to it yet?
The official 6.1 rom DOES comes w/ the DD support. And it can be verify by S2U2 dd enable and core player dd playback. U got to check w/ the chef of unofficial rom why DD is not support on his/her rom.
Hermes graphic is better bcoz it has ATI chip on it, Kaiser has Qualcomm which claim has graphics accelerator but until now still no good news about a driver which can use the function. Diamond has 3D graphics accelerator & i dont think we can have the ported driver to work with our Kaiser. We still hope all the experts will continue their research & make us happy
Well one thing i really like about some of the new roms is it doesn't have as much of a touchscreen lag bug. when im panning in htc album it's smooth. before it skipped around. games still aren't completely playable, but it's better. HOWEVER, without direct draw some just aren't playable at all lol.

256MB RAM for Uni - Is it Possible?

Hi!
I have upgraded my Uni with 128MB RAM. I understand that there is extra provision for additional RAM on UNI. Can anybody confirm that the two 64MB RAM chips from Blue Angel can be used on the free space available on Uni and can it be upgraded to 256MB RAM.
Feed back and guidance needed in this respect.
Regards,
Haque
People seem to be saying it's not possible. That 128MB is the maximum. However I remember being around in the forum when people were saying you couldn't upgrade to 128MB and others found a way to do this.
I think this would need a reply from someone who knows the hardware better. (Me, I'm still wondering what the two blank spaces could be used for... and for when someone builds a small GPS chip that can be plugged somewhere inside my Uni!!... dream on!).

Those blank spaces are for GPS chip, which HTC didn't include. You can install the chips but it will not work because a radio rom with GPS FW has never been released for Uni.

Damn, I saw that Tomal replied and hoped that I will come to this thread and he'll say something along the lines of 'Yes, we successfully installed 2 128Mb RAM chips and I am testing them now with a new ROM, will let you all know how it went and offer an upgrade to people who want to get one'
Even my Elf can pinpoint my location on Google Maps, my Uni can't. Outrageous
Some time ago I have a chat conversation with one russian guy (Mo3ulla) and he has 256 RAM on the Uni (bga chips from notebook) and running Windows CE (custom port, never comes to public), so it seems it's possible, but not for public
A light!!
Well,
If that is actually true there is hope that can be done!!
Hope someone can publish this soon!
I´ll ask mo3ulla
Thanks for the tip,
Interesting reading this thread - especially this post
I don't know if the guys are still around - it was only 18 months ago.
Well i would think someone will get the way around to get it done .....

May be you are right.
But if something is not published publicly then it may not be fully true....just my thought.
Mamaich did the original work on patching the Kernel to allow access to the 128mb ram, if bigger chips are available for the two slots then there is no reason why the memory can't be further upgraded, it would however require another kernel update to allow access to the extra memory.
The same goes for the GPS slot, if someone was willing to install the GPS chip and patch the radio stack, there's no reason why the Uni couldn't have a GPS chip.
The only problem you have is that the Uni has been around for far too long now and all the Guru's have moved on to other devices.
Try convincing someone to spend months patching an old device to have the features already available in newer devices............ you would be better inserting a new mainboard into the Uni chasis........
Cheers,
Beasty
Thanks for your clarification Beasty!
Well, I would love to convince a master to do this hard task, just want to know who can be a candidate.
And on the other hand we should rise a nice donation so we can encourage him!
I offer myself to rise the money to convince him/her
So any recomendation is welcome!
Later I´ll set up a new thread for the donation in case this makes any positive progress.
Cheers,
I'd certainly donate towards anyone getting GPS inside my Uni if it helped. However, I think as Beasty says, I don't think it's going to be money, but someones time.
Time is not a problem as long as somebody really want to go deep in it
I can wait the longest as it takes and I´ll be just a happy pacient Uni user!
$ can incentivate
Let´s how all this move forwards...
You will be hard pushed to find a candidate willing to take on this task for you.
There are not many developers here who are capable of both the hardware and software modifications required.
Don't get me wrong, there are some very good devs in these forums, but this sort of mod requires a lot of low level hardware and software knowledge.
Your best chance if you really are serious about trying to find someone to do this is head over to Darkforces and make a post there.
Really you would need Mamaich, Ivan or Helmi (to mention a few.....if you can track them down) as they are all more than capable of what you want.
To be honest though, you probably have more chance of getting HTC to do it for you..............
It would still be easier to port a new mainboard into the Uni housing (more than enough room in there for most of the current devices on the market to fit............... perhaps you should also consider this as it is a more practical move than trying to upgrade a dying device.
I love my Uni as much as the rest of you guys here, but there comes a point when you just have to move on.
Over the years we have patched the hell out of the kernel and drivers for the Uni and to be honest the code is quite a mess now, far from optimised.
Good luck and keep this thread updated with any news you have on progressing this issue as I would be very interested if you found someone willing to take on this challenge.
I know first hand how messy all the drivers and patched oem files and XIP are in the Uni and it will be a monumentous task.
Cheers,
Beasty
Beasty is right, as we all know, but if we take in account what was written in Orb's thread about Uni vs new devices there are a lot of us that are not satisfied with the performance/cost of the latest, me included.
How can it be possible to release a device and i can't even play avi with it?
Runing the same apps on both devices, I can't notice a real improvement in terms of speed. memory we know that's short...
My HD is nice, but as I told, I would prefer the Uni with 256, even being a lot bigger.
Unfortunately we (Uni) suffer from oldness, and we will have to move on...

I agree the current Qualcomm chipsets are not up to par, mainly down to driver issues rather than the hardware. Don't forget our Uni's run off an Intel XScale and not a Qualcomm.
1st quarter of next year should see some decent releases of the new hardware Tegra and Snapdragon with 12mp cams, 1 ghz cpus and video recording at 720p, perhaps then the Uni will finally have a decent replacement.
I must say though that my Rhodium is no slug, the keyboard is nice and big more than enough ram (GPS is functional, though not great it does the job satisfactorily) I can't really say I miss the Uni that much after switching over to the Rhodium................ each to their own.
Hold out till next year and be tempted with the new hardware.
Cheers,
Beasty
Does the Qualcomm have a serial or USB port (USB host)? I have no idea but I know that much older chips did have (Intel StrongArm in HP Jornada for example - but was not used and also PXA250 have it). If yes and if it can be found somewhere on the PCB of the UNI, then this can be used for GPS connection, or something else. Just an idea....

Both the Qualcomm and XScale can support USB host, they just require the correct drivers, the functions are available just need to be accessed via a driver. The problem the Uni has is that it has no built in GPS Chip, there is a placeholder on the mobo for a GPS chip, it was just never added. There were rumours that some of the very early Uni's (G3) had a chip but not activated.......... Personally I have never seen proof of this.
You can still use external GPS on Uni (as many do) via BT or USB/Serial connection. You do not need USB Host service for this function.

Beasty
Why try to upgrade Uni while has HTC X7500, X7501 and X7510
Let buy them...! (":')...!

what is 3d driver

i see some rooms with 3d driver
what is ? 3d driver for htc touch cruise ?
sry for bad english
Hi 3d driver is as the name suggest a driver that enables hardware acceleration of opengl graphics on the polaris, It was never an official release by HTC but was made by a few very clever developers. Unfortunately the driver was never quite finished off for the polaris as development moved on to support the newer phones. The reason you see roms with 3d and without 3d is because the 3d driver takes away about 15mb of ram so some people just prefer to have more memmory and no 3d as the last time i played around with it the 3d did not work with things like spb mobile shell anyway. So it was sort of really cool but kinda useless ( no disrespect to developers intended)
thnx
thank you man very much

really thanks for useful Iformation

Sensation thread open at Fpse forum

The sensation setion on Fpse (PS1 emulator) has be opened today
http://www.fpsece.net/forum2/viewforum.php?f=44
Every feedback of Fpse running on the HTC Sensation is welcome !
So far, I'm not really happy with the results, it seems that an Xplay defeats my Sensation, so I'm sure there's a lot of space for optimization here!
I definitly hope Schtruck will have a look at it
I guess Fpse uses only one core so far, that's the only explaination I can find.
Every info, feedback, opinion, experience might be useful
Thanks !
99% android apps dont take advantage out of the additional core. And it will take some time until they do because they have to be programed differently. So i guess for an emulator like FPSE your performance should be about the same as on a DesireHD with singlecore 1.2ghz.
But then the Xperia Play has the about the same hardware as the DHD so i dont know :/
What games do you have fps issues with? I run almost everything at full speed that i tried (TombRaider 3, Ridge Racer, FF7, Resident Evil) on my DesireHD at 1.1ghz.
I know Schtruck has better results for Tekken 3, with screen filtering ON, with his Xplay
(tekken 3 has always been my reference for test, since 2009, when I was beta testing with my Omnia 1 i900 )
I remember when we started to have multitouch on the HD2, firts with Morphgear, then for FpseCE, when originally the HD2 only supported pinch to zoom, and the OS was not supposed to handle multitouch.......
So now we have a dual core device, the OS doesn't support dual core except for a few HTC homebrews? I hope devs will manage to fix all this, it's kind of the same situation, having to bypass a limitation due to the OS using what HTC did for some apps
It will come eventually. But implementing working dualcore support isnt an easy thing to do from what i've heard^^ Its not the same thing as using multitouch.
Even on PC where multicore is established for years, support is still very basic. But im not a programmer so maybe someone else could explain it in details or use the mighty google.
I know how to use google, don't worry, but I've also seen many miracles since I've been in smartphones world, like for example playing tekken 2 full speed on a 624mhz CPU and no GPU or graphic chip, and I now cross my fingers.
