32B Rom to fit my taste - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Here is the deal, i just got the my touch 3g. Its a BAMF phone with a lot of potential held back by factory BS and apps slowing the phone down. What is the best 32B rom that is pretty much a shell version of the Android OS with nothing special to it but has the cpu Mhz unlocked and as much RAM free'd up as possible?
I am also somewhat new to the whole rooting process. Can anyone shed some light on me on how to root and load the rom. I'm sure i can figure out how to root the phone from the step by step guides, its rom loading i am not to sure about.
If anyone could shed some light on me it would be much appreciated, i have searched quite a bit and couldn't find much in lamen terms. The only lamen rooting process has exceeded its bandwidth. I found the relentless rooter plus but that seems to be for the stock HTC MAGIC not the touch3g.
thx!

That SPL (1.33.0006) is a "perfect" one, which you will need to change so you can access fastboot, and then a custom recovery, before you go about flashing a ROM.

There is a how-to guide, although I think in some cases it is possible to do without a goldcard, but I'm not 100% sure on methods etc as I've never needed to personally.

Threads like this is reason that some developers are leaving so please don't reply them. If people doesn't read the rules and follow them don't help!

to ronni, you're post is about as worthless as you and this post is. You realize posting your nonsense and garbage does absolutely nothing but add fuel to the fire.
Devs don't leave because of posts like this, they leave because forums have ass hats and waste of space like yourself. Forum/e-fighting bashing doesn't make your manhood bigger, so stop.

What ever! Just read the rules and when you've been here long enough you might undestand my reaction. We get post's like this daily in this section and if you did your homework you would probably already found the answers to your questions!!!
Anyway just try out the different rom's made for your model and find the one there fits your needs the most.

Closed thread due to it becoming a flame war, plus the fact that its posted in wrong section.

Seems to me like you're speed reading the WIKI in the same way people read a cheap book..... don't start at the beginning, read every other chapter then (and I'm waiting for this one) complain that the book was crap because you missed something.
20 minutes after your first post asking what a rom is you're suddenly 'expert' enough to discern that the HTC ROM is better than your ATT one. Well yes - you're probably right but how long will it be before you discover that your radio might not work after your upgrade (another 5 minutes) or that you can screw up without hardSPL (sorry missed that one 'cos it was in chapter 2 and I only read odd numbered chapters on Tuesdays).
Go away and come back when you've learned how to read.

LOL! Very true though.
Sepig. People are going to bash you if you don't spend a lot of time reading the wiki and forums before you post questions because you can seriously screw up your device if you don't. From your post, it will be a while before you can upgrade your phone.
Just go here and install this:

Once you've install that CORRECTLY, go here for the official kaiser rom:

Have you considered that I might actually be a 7th grader???
Anyway, a bit harsh maybe - but if people fall over backwards to help others who are too lazy or impatient to help themselves then we'll be as inundated with useless posts as the Hermes forums.
And fyi, I don't normally flame noobs if they've done a bit or real work themselves - instead I normally try to help.
Also fyi, I was mildly flamed as a noob - ONCE only. I went away with my tail between my legs and learned to read - once I could read I learned to write.
In a bizarre way, by flaming noobs you do help - 1. because you bump their post. 2. someone always comes along to help. 3. To get the help they have to read through the scorn at their (sometimes) dumb question or attitude so maybe they research better next time.
Besides the above I'd had a beer and a ****ty day

Flaming is a bit pointless if done to someone who, as was obviously the case here, comes with a complete blank and probably doesn't even know what a wiki is and what/where to look first.
On the other hand, it's a perfect opportunity to throw one's wisecracks at the noob and entertain the forum. A bit too easy though, don't you think?
There is a difference between helping or spoiling

Totally agree! This forum is not started just a few days ago. There are plenty of info. to solve most problems. Encourage people being lazy is actually not good for them. No need to scold them but just point them to the right place to read. If they don't. Just ignore them. I've been ignored before, but now I am able to cook my own Kaiser ROM.
Spoiling people is not helping.
In fact I would propose there is a black out period like 24hrs to 48hrs that a newbie cannot start any new thread. They may post to ask question but not starting new thread as soon as they register the forum.
Sad but true.
It seems that people are not into reading these days. Such a shame, cause reading makes you intelligent ! *ping*
No but seriously, read the forum starting with the Wiki. After that please remind yourself that you are NOT an IT-geek which makes the whole process probably even more dangerous. After the coscideration that your computerskills utterly -suck- , click cross in the right-upper-corner and have a nice day.
with love!
I see this as a website to go to to find answers.
Similarly to how I would go to Dell.com (or whatever) if I wanted to find a PC to buy to play my latest game I bought.
I don't go reading through the technical manual on how a CPU or GPU works so that I know which one to buy. I look to the people who already have the knowledge to answer the questions I have.
Most of the regular posters on here (I'm guessing) already know a lot about flashing PDAs etc... especially the first guy who flamed the OP. If you don't want to share your knowledge then don't take part in the forum. Yes, there are people who are trying to find an easy way to learn everything that you know and I agree that they should do their research etc... but this guy was abviously wanting a few pointers and got blasted for it. Take it as a compliment that he feels confident in this forum to be able to prvide him with the bit of knowledge he requires to do a flash and then be done. He has never done one before and will never do one again so why does he have to spend weeks reading material that potentially could give him answers that you could write in a line or so?
Please, don't flame the noobs.
I find that more often than not they don't come back.
Look how many times he has replied to this thread since the first guy flamed him... none.
No ill feelings to the original poster, as we were all there one day,
but to see it as a thread headline made me laugh!!! Actually made my day!
No worries, ROM Flashing is easy as hell!!

Nobody get paid in this forum. You pay Dell for their machine so you may and should entitle some service. If you get some free service AND some free spanking in this forum, that is life, no flesh does not come with blood. Even experienced one may get spanked once a while by asking non-sense question. No need to be too thin-skin.
You may also be the lucky ones who has plenty of money and being pampered and like the noobs who like to ask million dollar question like "Which is the best ROM in this forum?" or "How do I flash my ROM step_by_step with guaranteed no risk?" or "Where do I get free SIM unlock service?" and expect an answer right away.
Many people paid to have their machine unlocked. Getting knowledgeable advice from someone is a service and entitled to get compensation for. Talk to a lawyer for advice, you will fully appreciate all the good folks in this forum and they are the one needed to be pampered and not the noobs.
One will learn and learn by reading this forum. It is more like drugs to me now.
He hasn't replied, that is good, that means he is doing reading and reading and reading..... If he is not, why he want to risk his $600 machine and ended up blaming everyone in this forum for not helping him or prevent him from doing that.
I don't think he was flamed by the #2 or #3 or # .... He is being educated! He is benefiting by this experience! The machine that's saved maybe his!
Please note there is a note in this forum which says:
Reading this Forum (Wiki) may be hazardous to your health!
Hey, I think it may also be hazardous to your family life, your love life, and/or your current job! Not just your machine!
Lets get a bit real here...
The name of this site is XDA-Developers. There is a bit of a clue in the title as to a certain amount of pre-knowledge. This guy asked what a ROM is - he could have got his answer from dictionary.com but instead decided to go to a group of people who are (or were) efectively researching on the forefront of the XDA pda's.
Most noobs (me included) have a lot of experience of computers but at first they don't have any idea of how to translate this into WM5 or WM6. But they learn quick because they already have the pre-knowledge to enter a developers site. This question was nothing like that and there is a greater than 90% chance that we'll be fending off the 'what is the best rom', 'how do I insert the stylus', 'how do you spell brick' type of questions unless he is discouraged from proceeding without some serious reading.
I know there are nice and nasty ways to tell someone what to do, but my experience of these forums is that people who don't read will not read the 'help granny cross the road' style of advice - but they do tend to get the point when flamed a bit (and it could have been worse).
Anyway, I hope he's gone away - keeps reading and then comes back a bit better prepared. And lets face it - anyone can flash a Rom, but not everyone can recover from a bad flash - and bad flashes is what we want to prevent at any cost.

Actually, I bricked my first PDA phone on the second day... That's when I found this forum However I managed to unbrick it. Somehow. Can't remember the how.

32a and 32b separate forums

sorry if this has been said before, but it would be easier if there were 2 forums for the 2 different Sapphire types.
edit: added a 10-day poll, enough time for everyone to put their opinion forward
+1 I agree with you.
I agree too!
+1 This would be great. Even if the posts could be tagged 32A or 32B
Agreed!
Save some confusion.
quite agree with you!!
not sure why this is necessary if ROM creators tag their threads with the correct version.
Well they need to tag it at the start, rather than the enb of the title eg.
[32A][ROM][PORT] xxxxxxxx v 4.2.3.1
rather than
[ROM][PORT] xxxxxxxx 32a v4.2.3.1
It makes it much easier to read rather than having it hidden somewhere in the title
Won't be long now and we might get some truly universal roms going.
I know Cyanogen's working towards it.
Until then.. it's not like there's a lot of difference - only two files really.. boot.img and wlan.ko.
If all the rom developers clearly marked their roms as 32a/32b then it wouldn't matter so much.

Exactly my thoughts. There is a big discussion on this and even if this doesn't happen I can't believe that people are so lazy that they don't read the first post of a thread to distinguish if the ROM is 32A or B!!!

Exactly and in the meantime if the forums were separated there's the danger one or the other might miss out on something the other is doing. Much better everyone sees everything.

I don't like this idea: many topic are shared among the two models (all is related to the applications!). Now it is already a mess that I'm loosing great topics on the Dream's forums.
In the next future (I hope) there will be many firmware that can works on both the models (even on the Dream): look at the Cyanogen.
The use of the tags is good enoght!
+1 agree
the rooms must be in separate threads, but maybe the apps must be in only one for all Android mobiles.
Is difficult to know now for what version of Magic is a post (no only roms, also related post answering about)
Now I think is too late.. we just have to organize each others better like suggested before...
Do you imagine the work will have a moderator of this forum moving all the threads?

I don't like the idea because I have to post everything twice when I release something for both sapphire's.
I do like the idea of the tagging the threads.
+1 4 tagging
Better tagging will do the job.

Almost everything is common.
Better tagging, or rather better reading of the tagging is the answer. Most threads are properly tagged, I think the problem is more to do with people not reading the tags/titles properly.
Paying a bit more attention is the answer.
+1 for the guy that says: WTF, just RTF Topiclines a bit better before whining.
If you can't read 32A or 32B, get your eyes examined
To that end, don't visit the forums while drunk, doped or very sleepy, it'll prevent topics like this ever getting started.
Peace out!

Oh good lord, look what we have here. Look, I could tell you what you want to know but the truth of the matter is this thread is going to get bumped so here's some information that will help you in the long run kid.
Rule #1: "Hello XDA" <- At this point people already know or assume you are a noob and your chances of getting help are slim to none. If you're lucky someone will tell you to go check the qna which to me is the same as someone telling you to "Go F*** Yourself!"
Note: At the end of your comment, just end it with a "thanks" as this is more acceptable and prone to getting a better response than someone who is over-appreciative for a request for help when they haven't even gotten the answer their looking for.
Rule #2: "i've tried did work," Always use capitalization and proper punctuation. You come off as a person who lacks self-esteem and with little confidence. At this point you've gone from noob status to a knowledge-less noob which makes your chances for getting help even slimmer than they already are... Secondly, what you're saying makes no sense, no offense but use your head and edit your work, the edit button is there for a reason so use it when necessary and no one will notice or bust your balls.
Rule #3: Be confident in what you say and do. Be direct in what you're saying and get to the point. You don't need to sound like a dumb blond b**** who's drunk and helpless. It's mostly a nasty world out there but there are good people that will help you! Don't ever give up or in, keep trying until you get what you're looking for.
Rule #4: There are people who will put you down. Remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question There are people who will go out of their way to put you down because it makes them feel good about themselves. The truth of the matter is those individuals will have questions to things they don't know about which makes them hypocrites and therefore they deserve no respect.
Rule #5: If you are attacked by someone on XDA or in life, be defensive. Make the antagonist feel vulnerable, stupid and guilty for even trying to put you down.
Rule #6: Be resourceful, broaden your horizons, post in multiple places. Help is not limited to XDA... I am by no means a know-it-all but when I was in your shoes I made a lot of mistakes. Trial and error is a good thing, it is a very effective way of learning in actuality. I have used places like Youtube and searched and I found what I was looking for, helpful information. There are video tutorials that have been very helpful to me, just search and you will get help from multiple sources.
Rule #7: Be persistent! Never take no for an answer. Never give up and never surrender, empower yourself! If you are attacked, stand up for yourself and if you have trouble use comedy and make jokes, just be careful because people on here can be sensitive and you could get booted for awhile...
Well, that's my noob guide just don't take it too personally, I wrote it to be helpful and so that you can get what you're looking for the easiest way. Most people won't go out of their way to tell you this stuff but I can tell you from experience as a motivational speaker my guidelines are far more effective than when I see someone post a thread: "HELP! nOOb here" or" Noob Needs HELP NOW PLLLLLLEAAASSEE!!!" or "Phone crasHED what DO I DO!?!?!?"
Poeple are not only not willing to help but they will probably laugh at a thread with a title like that and it will probably give them enough of a kick to make their day while you still have a severe issue that is not humorous by any means.
Good luck.

Where are the 32B roms?

Can someone help me by noting some good 32B roms? All I see in the forums is mostly related to 32a
Popular 32B choices:
- St0kes AOSP 2.1 (I use this.)
- Cyanogen AOSP 2.1 (I haven't tried this.)
mate thanks for 2 roms links. well i will just say that there are many 32A roms. as compared to 32B so is it possible to port and use 32A roms in 32B by modifying something.?

why you can find all the 32b roms hiding in plain sight
it seems every month someone opens another thread asking this same redundant question - you obviously have not searched at all

because the MT3G and The dream are both the same hardware....
The reason you find 32a roms here is because we have different hardware for the better magics with more memory and some have the 3.5mm jack
if you have a 32b its because your provider would rather save money than give you a better phone
im not gonna rag on you man because i use not to know what the difference was but the g1 is 32b so if you got an old school mytouch like me just mostly stay on there. all those roms are for the first mytouch also this area is mostly for 32a mytouches (the one with the headphone jack). hope it helps!
then they should add mt3g to the g1 section and take it away from here. maybe say mt3g 1.2 or some **** like that

Yeah, I don't think you can blame anyone for being confused about that. Until yesterday, all I knew was that I had a 32B, and also wondered where all the ROMs were for me. For all the people that are "sick of the same redundant question", a little switch in the title or a sticky in this section might help.
agreed.
this problem would go away if the forum description was changed.
nowhere in the G1 forum description does it mention HTC Magic.
you know where it does mention the HTC magic? that's right, in this very forum.
the fact that they are the same hardware (in some cases) is irrelevant.
the forum description tells members to come in here for all of their HTC Magic development needs. it makes no mention of the different hardware types.
i don't think anyone, particularly new members, should be blamed for making that mistake.
I think it should be also mentioned that this forum is for the HTC Sapphire in all it's forms, be it Magic or mytouch, and that moving anything to the Dream section is just going to cause more confusion. Should I really have to look in a totally different forum just because I have a 32B? Next you'll be trying to tell me to look elsewhere coz my Magic is pink. Seriously guys, there's being elitist, and there there's being plain stupid. The OP just needed to maybe learn a little bit more before posting a question, and many many many people are guilty of that.
ya mate thats true. because this confusion will always remain. so we request XDA to please add some little description about that little issue. and all rom cookers of G1 that they must use Magic or whatever with 32B support too if G1 roms are usable for Magic devices too. So no one will make this confusion again. Thats a simple issue which can be solved with little info and description.
i am so sorry if someone mind about my post. and also sorry for my bad english.

I'm not the brightest girl at the best of times, but I managed to work it out, so did a lot of other people.
Nothing needs to be changed, people just need to learn to use the search function and read before they post a question.

[q] help from me on xda or in pm/gtalk ?

I help A LOT of people here on xda all day everyday some donate some don't. its very hard to help people on xda cus when helping them other people jump in and start either telling the person im helping don't do that do this or they just plain old spam. i have helped a very large amount of people on g talk and they have told me they like to be helped MORE on g talk than on xda because we have 100% full privacy to do what we need to do. please choose how you like to be helped Either xda or PM or g talk. at the end of the week ill count all of them up and from the results i will help people based on the results on this thanks very much.
To put the poll into better context I believe that you should also read this thread Although I've quoted the relevant posts below:

Hello, Paul,
Firstly, thanks (again) for your input into the forum. I'm genuinely not intending to create conflict here or trying to play the role of a mod. Now, I know that you've had this sort of comment before, but, I agreed with it then and I'm afraid that I still do.
While at times the PM route can be useful to resolve issues, it shouldn't be the only or primary option. The whole principle of XDA is openness and sharing, so resolving an issue in thread permits that the next user(s) (and there is always another, who suffers from the exact same problem) from hopefully using the Search function and then following the resolution from the thread by themselves.
That way we're working towards creating a valuable resource rather than loosing useful input into hidden PMs.
PM's do have there place for 'user to user' communication, that would otherwise populate the forum unnecessarily but once a thread has been created I believe that it should be used to reolve the original issue.
If a new user needs that much hand holding then one wonders whether they should be risking their £200-£400 device in the first place! before reading up some more....

me helping people over PM is better because its faster and more safer for the person im helping. if im trying to guide him then other people jump in and comment he isnt going to know who to listen to and he will get very confused. this has happend before. by helping over PM or my gmail is better for them, and me. and i ALWAYS ask them after to write a guide as to how i helped them and what they did. i at NO point mean to upset anyone. but you have got to understand that this is the only way that i can help these people as you may well know here on xda people have got there opinions and they like to jump in whenever they want. if i tell him to do somthing some1 might jump in and say no or do this and do that. i have had EVERYONE i have helped say thanks to me and its better this way. i have helped MANY people achieve proper s-off. i will no open a poll. and it will ask the people of xda if they would prefer to be helped via PM or Gtalk or on here. if more people prefer xda then i will start helping via xda

As someone whom Paul has helped through gtalk, It was very beneficial to me as we were able to quickly and easily communicate, as any other method is rather slow and crude. I definitely do agree with your point on xda being a repository for information however, therefore communicating through gtalk or similar could withhold information from other users. However I have now written up a short guide of what I did to solve my problem on the original thread, and I believe that if people do this then everyone wins tbh, and it has the added advantage of the treads being shorter and more concise, therefore it is easier to find the relevant information.
As someone who has done all his stiff by reading through threads and others opinions, I will always advocate all discussions on XDA
Sent from a Desire S waiting for Kernel 3. WAKE UP HTC!!!!
On the 16th the poll will close and whatever the winning method is thats the way i will help people from now on. i do wish ALL people will take something out of the way i help them. as me getting them properly s-off uses alot of things like commands running adb , fastboot and so on. by helping them do these things it then in turn helps them. as if i didnt help them and they needed to to adb or fastboot commands and they never knew howto that could result in a not needed thread being opened **How to use adb or fastboot** this is a good way for me to help these people. i think people should help people the way they do and let other people carry on with the ways they do things. ( no offence meant ben your opinion means alot to me your a good person ) but if it states in the rules ( only help people on xda ) then i will stop if it dont then i will carry on as im not doing anything wrong. and even so if you guys think your losing out on infomation. i will open up a guide covering absolutly EVERYTHING on the desire s from fastboot adb changing roms, splash, radio, hboot and covering everything on what the desire s is capable of doing. what limits it has and other things. this in a sense will be the desire s XDA user guide let me know if u think thats a good isea ben. and as i go along anything i help people out with thats not in the new guide ill just update it ????????????

I do but there are already several threads like this, so one must be careful not to pollute the forum with too many similar guides which would just lead to further confusion.
There is the Complete Tutorial for beginners and others, but I'm guessing yours would be a more technical and slightly more advanced version?

The one thing I would say though, is rather than re-invent not just the wheel but the car, I'd recommend that you source, link and reference as much of the existing documentation where ever possible.

Guides done i have posted it now and ill carry it on as i go along
hey guys, Would just like to add to this After searching throughout the forum day and night i got what information i needed to root and s-off my desire s. After following all the instructions letter by letter i was still have errors and problem after problem. paul.robo kindly asked me if i wanted his help and i accepted using Gtalk. I can not begin to express at how helpful he was and was there to guide me through each error. After a good few steps i finally got to where i wanted to be. In no way was i able to find out why i was having these errors if he weren't there to check them as it was happening. To go through this in forum style replys would take days and to much work. Gtalk is a brilliant and direct help for occasions like these and would recommend his help and wisdom to all. Thanks again mate Much appreciated
