Hey guys!
I did a thorough search of these forums and was amazed to find nothing about the wonderful program DateLens Calendar. (Apparently it used to be called FishCal).
It's a front-end for the clunky Calendar in WM5 and it has a very interesting GUI. Not "interesting-gimmicky", "interesting-FUNCTIONAL!"
It's freeware, so check it out here:
http://www.windsorinterfaces.com/datelens.shtml
Enjoy!
Dax.
I forgot to mention...
Only problem I've found with the program is that is doesn't have an icon, as in, it uses the default program icon, which is kinda ugly.
Never fear! I realised that it should be possible to use icon from a DLL file as a program icon (Just like in Windows xp, 98, etc)
Simply open the shortcut in something like PHM Notepad and add the following to use the standard Calendar icon.
?outres.dll,-10002
So the contents of the shortcut file should now look something like this:
45#"\Program Files\DateLens PPC\DateLensApp.exe"?outres.dll,-10002
Snoop around; Opening other shortcuts in PHM Notepad will reveal some interesting syntax. I think I saw one that said something like "Icon=" but I can't find it again.
Psst!: In PHM Notepad, don't forget to change the file types from *.txt to *.* or you won't see the shortcuts!
Ohhh maaan!
This puppy doesn't seem to work correctly!
It's great as a proof of concept, but doesn't function properly on my handset.
(I noticed when I try to enter a date, it comes up with a year of 1753!)
The author says that it could be due to regional settings, but this has not fixed it the problem in my case.
Has anyone else tried it and got it to work?
Now that I've seen it in operation, I can't stand to go back to other software! Even AgendaOne!
Dax.
Yes, I have the year 1753 problem as well. My regional settings is of the UK region. And when I tried to make it 2007, it goes 9988. Anyway, I bet it may be caused by WM5 problem rather than regional settings. Also, it seems slow in starting the app as well. Much slower than what I've experienced with other PIM (e.g. PocketInformant). However, once you had it in the memory, it seems alright.
Having said that, this app rocks! I wonder why it isn't getting the publicity that it should. SEE THE VIDEO DEMO HERE!!
It is sooooo aye-Fone-ish. They should have done more advertisements. I bet other PIM (probably Apple?) will like to have get their interface
Thanks Hanmin!
Much appreciated!
That calendar app looks very promising. Anyone talk to the developer yet on the WM5 issue??
He's said that he won't be working on it anymore, despite the fact he still thinks the concept is good (So do we!!), BUT that he is considering open-sourcing it.
Even if he does this, we would need dedicated & talented programmers to work on the code.
Do we have any takers?
Has the author released the source yet??
Holy crap, this is amazing. Well done on finding this little gem, I've been looking all over for an outlook replacement that was easier to work with but wasn't overloaded with to many features.
This is a great find, free as well! bonus.
Very nice. Has anyone figured out how to enter new appointments with the correct year and day?
@Kwan: No, unfortunately not. What we need is for everyone who's interested to ask the author to make it open source. I'm happy to co-ordinate the SourceForge site and he's already sent me the code, we just need his permission to open source it.
His name is Ben Bederson: [email protected]
Please be polite and courteous! If he says no, please don't hassle him. (But I really hope he says yes!)
All the best,
Hi. I'm new here. This app looks great! Has there been any updates? Has anyone tried it on WM6?
This is where you'd find updates if there were any.
You need to email Ben if you want this thing to go anywhere. We need all the support we can get!
ei.. you are back hows your effort with the code?
This app is pretty nice. I have been using it for the past day.
There are some issues with it though. Creating appointments causes an error and makes the app crash. It just needs to be fine tuned a little more.
Extremely impressive and works on my HTC Wizard running WM6 minus the already mentioned issues. I've done my part by sending Ben an email. Anyone have any new info on the appointment entry and date fixes? It is really all this app needs to be fully functional and more intuitive than any other calendar on the market. I can't believe this thing has gotten no press.

Because probable nobody knows about it. This is posted in the General forum. It needs to be posted in the Development and Hacking forum to get more traffic.
Hi Guys,
On this site you can now download Syntrax for free: http://www.finished.nl
How do I know this? I created the program myself
Should work on all ancient and modern PocketPC's (except the weird square screen ones)
Enjoy!
Reinier
Excellent.
Does it come with sample sounds, or do you need to provide the sounds for the sequencer?
Hi,
No sampled sounds allmost (It would add to the size too much)... but a lot of preset synthetic sounds.
But sampled sounds are possible, so there's no stopping you from importing them!
Reinier
Will it work on the samsung sc3 processor.
euh...
if it's compatible with arm then it will undoubtedly work.
I used to have sh3 and mips versions of the software. If needed I can upload them, although I'm unsure if it will be the latest version.
Sh3 was really slow by the way... I can remember not many audio channels were possible on my ancient hp jornada. The oldest Ipaq however already was more than quick enough.
R
I'm using a touch diamond and finished.nl is telling me this is not compatible, is this true?
nice one, I got this before when I used to have a P910i
you have to register to handango to DL
Syntrax 2 Pro?
Hi there Reinier,
Glad to be able to chat to the syntrax developer.
I would like to know if you have any plans to update this application making it easier to use and perhaps moving away from basic analogue emulation or at least expanding the pallette?
I had it on my previous phone (tytn 2) and couldn't really get much out of it despite following the tutorials. I suppose i'm used to my pc programs and a full screen though i'm sure there's things you can do that work better for the much smaller phone screen.
I am not a developer/programmer myself but would be more than happy to come up with some suggestions and ideas for you to work on.
Of course time is money, so you should really think about making it a purchasable item should you wish to put the necessary effort in.
Look forward to hearing what you think in regards to this.
Simon Jarvis.
It runs portrait though. It would have been nice to be able to run it in landscape.
is it ok with the touch diamond? I got the incompatibility message from Handango too!
This looks AMAZING though & I really want to be able to run it !!!!!!!!!
I searched for this on the forum and couldn't find any helpful threads before anyone complains
What would you guys recommend and more importantly, can it be found relatively easily on the shadier parts of the web? (don't post a link or mention a website, even in a PM)
Please don't ban me Mods, I'm only 14 and I bought my Fuze full price because I didn't have an upgrade so I'm a little short on cash
thers many programs and im sure you can use forced qvga programs for that vga device of yours..like tweaks2k.net brute force vga and such..but the programs are (that i use)
igo8 (horrible imo)
destinator7 (my favorite)
tomtom7
garmin xt (my second favorite because it gives you local ACCURATE gas prices!)
Thank you. I think I am going to go with TomTom 7 as it was the easiest to find and I was getting consistant 1.2mb/s download speeds. It seems to be good enough and gas prices don't really affect me as I'm not supposed to be driving yet anyways
I've been testing AmazeGPS (amazegps.com), an over-the-air voice navigation system that is (legitimately) free. I have to say that I'm quite impressed. Yesterday was the first time that I trusted it to get me someplace that I wasn't completely sure how to get to, and it performed very well. The routing it gave me was different from how I had gone before (the way Google maps sent me), but it was much better -- skipped a lot of traffic and was more direct. Coming back home, it gave me a different routing, which was actually better for that direction than retracing my path would have been. It led me clearly through a couple of confusing intersections with multiple roads converging. Search works really well, too.
The Windows Mobile version is still in beta (it was originally a Java app), so I imagine there will be a few more bells and whistles when it goes GA, but I'm really pleased so far and don't see any need to pay for a GPS package.
I may have to try Amaze, never heard of it before. I still prefer to have all my maps on a storage card though since I travel a lot and am frequently in areas of little or no service.
Not sure what pazookie doesn't like about igo8, it's my current favorite, especially since the maps are by state so you can take only what you need to save space (though that's not a big issue with the huge SDHC).

Ive searched and found that the tomtom7 is free, but most of the download links have been taken down. And also that the maps are not free.
iGo8:
Pros--
-You can get TTS
-Smooth map updates as you're driving
-Good graphics
-NavTeq maps, better than TeleAtlas in the US
-Fast when searching POIs
-All data is stored on memory card, good when hard resetting
-You can use different skins
Cons--
-Slower at getting a fix than Garmin
-No live traffic
-Routing can be a little off compared to Garmin
-ETA has always been off for me, really noticeable on long trips
Garmin Mobile XT:
Pros--
-One of the best/trusted routing engines out there
-Polished and easy interface
-v5 has integrated Google Search for endless POI searches (if you have internet access)
-Live Fuel and traffic
-Just released updated maps, uses Navteq
-ETA is always accurate
Cons--
-No TTS (still tells you when/where to turn, but doesn't say street names)
-Refresh rate is only once per second, not as fluid as iGo
-For local streets, it usually displays CR52 instead of the common street name
TomTom:
-I never really used this program because the latest TeleAtlas maps I could find don't even have my 5 year old subdivision in them.
iGuidance 2009:
-I only played with this a couple days. Not much of an update from v4. SLOW interface compared to the others when moving from screen to screen. Accurate routing and ETA. Has native TTS. Has new, just released Navteq maps.
i have garmin mobile xt, tomtom, and google maps. google maps is great, up to date, free, and you can find everything with it but it sucks for giving directions since its flat 2d and has no voice or automatic directions. i love garmin the most. its very smooth and easy to use. it also gives things like gas prices, flight times, and things like that. the garmin software is actually free, you have to pay for an unlock code to get it to work with the builtin gps unit otherwise it only works with garmin branded units and you have to buy the maps. but its worth it. you can also get it illegally but its such a great piece of software its worth the money. it ends up being cheaper than an actual garmin unit and i prefer my phone to any on the market. tomtom is the one that confuses me. you can get it from so many cabs posted everywhere. i installed it to get footprints working. its kinda ugly and would get a fix for me. i wasnt impressed but its ok because i have garmin and google maps.
I suggest Tomtom Navigator 7. I would prefer it over any just for the fact that I have used it for years without any problems. Unlike my crappy Garmin. Allthough I will say that the garmin did seem a little more friendly, but after using the TomTom systems I've got very used to them.
i like the mixed opinions. people saying opposite things that fit them better and youre being told to find your own option that suits you. helpless community ftw! ^_^
amAzeGPS
I have to agree with the amAzeGPS option. I have been using this piece of free software for the past 3 weeks and I am thoroughly impressed.
Clearly, the main problem is that you require a data connection (the maps are not stored on your device); therefore it's use in a "deadzone" is nill.
I have been led to believe that they are coming out with a version that will enable you to download your route, thus negating the deadzone effects for navigation. I am hopeful that they will also include additional navigation informtion if you take a wrong turn :-0 (but that might be asking too much).
M
amazegps looks pretty good actually for being free. i think you understand the limitations if youre darting towards free software.

What do you expect? Everyone has their own opinion when it comes to software and preferences. Some people love TomTom and some love Garmin, others hate one or the other.
I tried to give as many pros and cons as I could about the software I've used the most, and that way based on the user's preferences, it'll hopefully help their decision.
For some people, they absolutely need TTS and it is high on their priority list, that really narrows down the options. For others, TTS isn't very important. Some people rank Garmin high because of the Garmin Online features, others feel its a waste because they don't use them.
It all boils down to what you want in a program, what's important to you, and if you ask what's the best one, you're never going to get everyone in agreement. If you ask about 3 programs, I can promise you that each program would get atleast one vote that its the best thing out there.
look if you can't use google search and torrents to find what you need then you don't deserve turn by turn gps and you can use google maps
anyway, in terms of apps, i've always been a fan of tomtom, but only recently acquired garmin xt as tomtom will not work with your radio off.
Amaze looks pretty good, but I haven't had a proper chance to use it. I live in Las Vegas and this place grows literally by the day. So from my perspective there are tons of roads missing and it doesn't even have my neighborhood (2 years old) at all.
Question for those who use garmin:
Do you find V5 to be slower than V4 as far as using the actual program goes?
Which do you think runs smoother?
On my Fuze, Garmin refereshes VERY slow, but it has a nicer interface. For me TomTom has been very reliable, and that is what I use.

As far as moving around the program? v5 seems just as fast as v4 was for me. As far as the map refreshes, Garmin has always refreshed at about once per second, even in the standalone Nuvi ones.
I'm trying the previously mentioned services this week!
I pay the $10 a month for the AT&T Nav, now I wonder if I have been wasting my cash on it. For the most part it performs well and I use it daily. Sometimes it takes 10+ minutes to find a GPS sat. and that's unacceptable for a paid service. I've heard good things about OnCourse and would like to hear more about it if anybody has experiences.
Google Maps is good if you have time and the skill to stare at the little screen without crashing into a tree.
Request a ROM - What would you like in a ROM? (Idea by Mr. Ill)
Have you been using the ROM's on XDA frequently, but you think everyone could benefit from an application or setting cooked into a ROM? Well, the cooks will be reading this thread, and if a cook likes the idea, they will pick it up, and either feature it in their next ROM release, or create a new ROM with it.
Instead of flooding ROM threads with requests, lets just centralize them all here! Feel free to ask for anything. If you don't get a response, then maybe the cooks didn't like the idea. If you think it's a brilliant idea, and you still didn't get a response, you could ask for it again, because a cook might have missed it.
For a list of existing ROM's, visit The Wingster.
Now, if none of the ROM's fit your needs, please, go ahead and make some suggestions below!
Current Requests
Sambalbij - Extendir to be cooked into ROM, because it's supposed to make Windows Mobile 12x faster! (3 cooks have failed at this)
daniel costa rj - Brazilian and Portuguese ROM's! WM6.5 and WM6.1 versions, with Opera Mini, Bluetooth and WiFi working, and finger friendly!
donaspl - A Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM in the Polish language.
In-Progress Requests
DumpyDooby - Remote Tracker to be cooked into ROM's from now on. (Mr. Ill is working on it)
TonyC0642 - A superclean ROM with Manila 2D cooked in. Only programs would be the base WinMo apps, and Network Wizard. Bluetooth apps, Internet Sharing, Windows Media Player, Games, and Lockscreen can be removed. (Mr. Ill has built it, and is testing it with TonyC)
HolyLove02 - Newest build of WM6.5.1 and Latest version of Manila 2D. Also themed to Super Mario Bros. Needs Bluetooth, Internet Sharing, NetCF, MMS, MS Office, and other basics. Likes the "fatty" ROM's. Also including a hefty list of apps. Donating a lot!!! (Mr. Ill is working on it)
Ideas
Rim1Flex - Photoshop Mobile to be cooked in. It's a nice program.
CheeseDave - A quite complete ROM, with various things!
I use Remote Tracker on all of my phones. So my suggestion is to compile the Remote Tracker DLL into ROMs. This would be a neat addition to SJK, actually.
While there is an obvious security issue with everyone having the same Remote Tracker password, this is easily resolved by simply advising everyone to change their password immediately upon first boot. The chef could even keep the password private and only disclose it to people who PM them for it. The neat thing about doing this is it will prevent a thief from doing a hard reset on the phone to disable Remote Tracker.
(by the way, I'm well aware that the Herald doesn't have GPS, but there are other ways of tracking a phone down with Remote Tracker. You can have it forward the thief's SIM info, make it delete all of your contacts, lock access to the MicroSD, and accomplish many other things with the program that would be useful for anyone who had their phone stolen)
I was thinking about putting in Photoshop Mobile in my Roms. It's a nice program.
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/photoshopmobile/
I was trying to get extendir to work, but i'm not experienced so it wouldn't work. A stripped rom with extendir would be great (if extendir makes its expectations come true).

Yeah, I was toying around with that one too. Couldn't figure it out. I didn't spend too much time with it.
I just want a superclean rom with M2D(preferrably 2.0 or better) and that's it. The only thing I would add is Network Wizard. No google maps, no apps of any sort aside from what's there already. In fact, some things could be stripped. Like BT_SAP/BT explorer, internet sharing, WMP(Audio Mgr is better imo), games, Lock(I use s2u2). This may be my first rom, if I can ever figure out how to add packages from other roms to SJK.

Please Help ME get custom.
I would love a ROM that has the newest version of 6.5, and the latest version of Manila Touch Flo.I've been look'n for a Super Mario Bros. Theme for Manila TouchFlo forever!
I've googled it, found one for 3d, but not 2d. I'd love this as a all around theme intergraded throughout the UI.
As far as the nuts and bolts go, I need bluetooth, internet share, Net.CF, MMS, and internet good to go out of the box, MS Office, the basics. I'm also into some of the more "fatty" ROMS. Including:
Microsoft Facebook
Flash Player
Microsoft My Phone
Oxios Memory
My Light (or some other program that is finger friendly back light control.)
HTC Streaming Media
cichy 3000 Link Creator
Twikini (or similar twitter app.)
Evernote
Pandora
Chi-Tai Dang Second Today
Chi-Tai Dang Home Screen PlusPlus (with both, can overclock 6.5 to 299)
Smart Lock
Joel Illgen Phoney Call
Coo Tek Cooperation TouchPal
Pocket MSN
Brins0.net Tonality
SDK CommManager (or just a newer comm manager interface)
Google Maps
To anyone willing to help me get this ROM, I'll DEFINATELY DONATE A GOOD AMOUNT!
Thanks for making this thread. I'm not sure if this is the kind of response/request you're wanting, if not, I apologize, and understand if it's moved.

Thanks Man! I appriciate it. I sadly don't know the creator of the program, but I think by far the most used program was forgotten, The XDA Shutdown program. Thank you to whoever made it! It is a God send! lol!
As for the remote tracker, i can't seem to get it to flash over. It "flashes" fine but nothing on the other end. I tried installing the cab on top of it and it won't let me (Probably because its there somewhere). This work on 6.5 right?

Yeah wow, good luck with that. That's so bloated I don't think it could physically fit on your phone. And even if it does, good luck multitasking. When it comes to custom ROMs you can't have everything, that's what cab files and a storage card are for.

Not all of it is running at once. Just because something's installed, it's not taking up RAM, unless it's a background proccess app.
Anyways, this is a thread where users can request ROM's! To one person, it's useless, to another, it's amazingly awesome!
You lean toward the slim ROM's, while he leans toward the fatty ROM's. Nothing wrong with that. I personally perfer a strong set of apps to be cooked in. It's very nice having those usefull apps already there, so that you don't have to think about installing them yourself.

I realize that ace, I'm just saying these devices can only do so much, and just because its not running does not mean it isn't taking up space. I would be willing to bet if you built that rom it would have on average less than 15mb of free program memory. And as soon as you open something like skyfire, which is a notorious memory hog, the phone will come to a screeching halt. Storage memory means NOTHING if you don't have the program memory to back it up.
Just to clarify, that's cool if that's what he's into, to each his own. Just know the limitations of your device before demanding so much from it.

It's his ROM, he can deal with the RAM consuption as he wants. I bet he already has all of those apps installed, and you know what, he's was apparently happy enough to have them all installed! He has probably been using that similar setup for a while, and guess what, it seem to work perfectly fine.
thanks man. I like havn the major used apps in the rom so when I have to hard reset my wing (weekly) the time it takes to reinstall everyting is minimal. (normally, apx. 2hrs.)
BIG UPS to ILL!!! the dude did almost exactly what I wanted!!! playn with it now!!!
It's just crossing my mind this idea to downgrade from WP7 to WM6.x. Yes, it has been told that this two platforms are completely different thing, on hardware and software base. But, after looking at the HD2 forum that is dedicated to HD2s update from WM6.5 to WP7 the idea just could be right.
Switching from WM6.5 to WP7 made me nostalgic for WM6.5 and it's programs, settings... Well, I guess that, as a lot of people, I haven't asked around about WP7 enough to see how it works and what it gives. But, I do like this phone, and especially 1GHz processor, 5MP camera, touch screen and other things (o yeah the battery is much better) that it comes hard to me to have this mighty thing that is all locked up. It could be that in a year or so, from now, it will be better than WM6.5 but considering all that time needed to get it close to WM6.5 and original idea to create WP7 (to make it easy-to-use and lot less custom) it stands on this OS just like gray cloud.
Just wanted to write this, and if someone shares my opinion I would be most glad to hear about it.
Maybe it will be possible to get to WM6.5...
nope cant be done sorry. just install the mango beta it blows wm6.5 out of the water.
Yes, I do try to think like that, and then I realize that I need SatNav. And, no GPS navigation software can't be installed, for time being, there is no Garmin, IGo, TomTom...
I'll definitely stick to this phone, and Mango I'll update. Hope it'll make my life simpler.

Garmin StreetPilot is now in Marketplace for a hefty $39.99, but unfortunately still does not include fully installed maps. Maps can however be downloaded ahead of time to the phone for the relevant route.
for unlocked device you have Navigon select...
My Arrive came with TeleNav. And the built in Bing stuff does turn by turn (with an upgrade coming in Mango). I don't see GPS apps as being an issue.
Yeap, now the future looks better.
as longer I use WP7 the more I wish a downgrade to WM6.5!!!
Where is my (momentary VERY needed) possibility to use tethering!? How do I synch "get away ALL your music and videos, blahblah..." all my things WITHOUT the scrapy Zune-SW, and (haha!) how I can increase the memory for it!?
****ty menues (just 5 stupid icons -what I there are several, much more options!?!?), it's not possible for the developers to install a dedicated database (so you have to make it "in the cloud") -yeah!!!! It's SO stupid on a MOBILE phone, as there often is the possibility that you're NOT online, or with GPRS or EDGE only -and it is SO funny if you're in a train and all 5 secondy it switsh from G to E to G3 to G to HSDPA. The last ****! :-(
The IE on it often don't work. Hmmm -let's use Opera. Uuuh -damned -I forget: you can't install ANYTHING!!!
OK -exceptional jailbreak, but I never did it before, and I don't want it -but I HAVE to do it, if I want to USE my phone.
I think it's better to reactivate my HD2 -there is ALL functionable, without any problems. And: it contains much data that i need -and there is NO possibilty to migrate SMS (i.e.) to WP7 -VERY poor performance Microsoft!!!!

wow where to start. this is probably the most ignorant post I've read on here thus far and with poor grammar at that. my arrive has had wonderful performance since the day I got it and it has improved even further since I installed the mango beta. the live tiles are awesome makes android and iOS seem like nothing but app launchers, the whole concept of apps is overrated and I can do a lot of things without having to even launch an app. and IE9 runs circes around opera. especially the one on WM.

Hmmm... It's not the performance that is question. But, it's functionality. Migrating from WM6.5 to WP7 should, at least I thought, have been compatible, eg. SMS, Connection settings (WiFi, Phone...), Contact (I've had to do it the old fashion way, by typing contacts manual / an then I found out about sync with WLive ).
It feels like I have powerful thing (excellent hardware), but it does non better than Nokia 3310. Just raw speed, for basic things.
Hi eric -I'm not a native speaker (english) -but give us some probes from your netherlands, german and french
But as I can see, you're able to read what I wrote, and thats what matter.
But back to topic: What sense is in a phone that is unusable in much functions DIRECTLY. For everyone -not just for people which have the time, the skills und of course the desire to make an jailbreak (which causes lost of guarantee), rebuild the phone several times, have so read several manuals, howtos and search for betas, previews.
I'd tried the Desire Z (just because of the same why I buy the 7 Pro -it's a type & touch) -and send it bach 2 days later to amazon. It's exactly what you wrote: just app-launchers! I hate apple., because of their "we tell you what to do" -and with WP7 it cames to me. I don't wanna do a jailbreak -but I didn't have an alternative (if I want to USE the phone) :-(
Maybee other people have the possibility and time to try the mango beta -and it seems that I MUST do it, or I have to sell the phone (what will make me very sad -a VERY good piece of hardware!!)

odd,i didn't have to do any of that when I got my Arrive. just open the box, enter my live ID and I was good to go. wp7 is not an app launcher as almost everything can be done without even having to go into an app. with the mango beta which is easy to install i can identify a song that's playing, a product for the best price, get directions somewhere (even in malls),find something to do in the area, buy movie tickets, search the web and watch html5 videos in HD quality, check my Facebook, chat on Facebook and check in. and many other things. install the mango beta and u'll feel much better about it.
Hold on. The core of any smartphone are applications. Staring with earliest versions of WM, Symbian, iOS, Android, Droid, WP7, they all the same with a final porpoise, and that is an application/s.
Therefore calling other systems "apps launcher" is contradiction. Because doing anything with a WP7 is being done via apps. Home screen is, just as in any other mobile system, a pile of shortcuts with a weather and the clock. The truth is that some systems are doing it, app launching, better than the others.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
With all of its hardware, as WP7 requires to run, this phone, or any WP7, will in the future be something good.
If you've played with WP7 enough, you'll find that the live tiles really preclude you from needing to actually launch the associated apps unnecessarily. Because of this, the commenter was calling the other Mobile OS versions more of an "app launcher" because, in general, you need to launch the app to interact with it. (Google has widgets, but those widgets aren't quite the same.) With WP7, you can glance-and-go (one of the tenants that MS imparted into the Metro design) and only launch apps when there is a required interaction. It really is a different approach, and one that I think works very well.
Please give some comparison for WP7 and other mobile OS (mOS).
As hard as I try, and I do like to play around with WP7, I just can't find anything that makes WP7 better than other mOS.
Eg. When email or SMS arrive, on WP7s homescreen shows a count of these items, and on the other hand, Symbian do just the same. So, where is the difference?
So far, the only thing that is obviously better are things-apps that have something to do with the internet (Windows Live, Email, Internet Explorer, Youtube) or with the 1GHz processor (apps do work better with stronger processor, so by having stronger processor apps work better and it isn't because of WP7).
you sound like you're determined to be underwhelmed by wp7. yes, when you get an SMS, the homescreen tells you that you have one....that's what phones do. What more is there for a phone to do with an sms?
WP7 is highly innovative from a UI standpoint. What you seem to be interested in, however, is the menu-heavy micromanaging style of old school winmo. If you want to be able to micromanage every last little thing about your phone go to a different platform. WP7 does everything it is purported to do, if you are not getting what you wanted, then you didn't do your homework before you dropped god-knows-how-much on a phone. these days, it's not about which platform is better, it's about preference. It's getting to the point where every platform can do all the really important things really well. so how do you want your phone to look? that's what you're buying.
Don't get me wrong, but what you are saying is what I've been saying. That is, WP7 as any other mOS is not new in functionality but it is different in GUI. Other qualities are not available to be seen, since there are no apps which can show it.
For now, WP7, only offers basic features.
I have been wondering the same thing since the 1 st rumors of windows phone 7 but still a no go. Its ironic ms stripped away so many of the things that made wm only to get beat out by the former clone of themselves....android. I love the form the tp2 & wish they wouldve released an hd2 with a keyboard. They shouldve stripped the name windows, hired a special team that managed themes system wide so that u have eye candy without it being resource heavy & hired a marketing team that would make apple & google have nightmares.

that's what they are doing with the mango update that's near release and the beta is already out and I find that im able to do just as much if not more than WM6.5 and android (former TP2 owner and loved it, had an EVO **** for a week and hated it).
Hi,
I followed eric12341's suggestion and have the mango-beta installed (and have buyed a developer account, to make side-loads possible). And some things were better (slow was it not before -hey, it have a 1GHz CPU, it HAVE to be fast ), but there are so many things which waste time. If I want to have a (exact) look of charging, I have to go through some menue-points. As I often in transit by railways, I have to set date several times, and the WM-calendar (and to set the time) is MUCH more effective, as I didnt't have to use the annoying slider-gadgets. Maybe it looks nice, but it waste much time. Before it was just 3 tips, no it's an orgy -the possebility to change the style would be great! And local database for apps -to find the connecting-train while you have no network (and EVERY thing have to be found over network when you want to set start and target of you travel, because of the impossebillity of local databases) is a horror! Before: 10 seconds, now 3 minutes -or longer, as often there is no network in the train. :-(
And unfortunately many very good (sideload)-apps will not longer work after mango. And when I can make a backup from my data, if I want to upgrade memory, or have to change it (because of defectivs, i.e.). And not all of my friend have Zune installed, but they have good music, pdf's or anything else for me. The next thing I was wondering: why I can only set my own ringtons for calling? What'a about SMS, email, and so on?? ^^
Sorry for the bad english -hope it was not to hard to read. :-(
Groby, thanks for the info. I was looking for some info about Mango.
Navigating via online updating is absolutely annoying. It takes for ever to download map, and there are no detailed maps, but only hi-ways and few byways.
I looks like this operating system is way out from it's time, for about good year or so.
If developers could make downgrade to WM 6.x, it would make this phone a dream.
