Hello Forum!
I use a 16GB Sandisk Mobile Ultra Class 4 microSDHC card in my beloved HD2. Would that very card gain namable acceleration in transfer speed after installation of "tnyynt SD tuneup"? Did somebody try already? Some users reported strange behaviour of their 16GB cards after installation of SD Tuneup, it was not a Sandisk card though....
Thanks for any insight guys!

Whatever you do, DO NOT INSTALL THIS APP TO YOUR HD2!!!
I've got a Sandisk 8gb card, and after installation and a soft reset, my card was no longer visible to the device. Had to uninstall to get my card back, but for whatever reason, this doesn't play nice the HD2's file system.

I second that, doesn't work and actually makes your micro sd unreadable

It only works for WM6 and 6.1. It's not about the system but the OS.
Thank you guys and especially tnyynt for the information, I will stay away from that application! Is there any need to have some application like that for WinMob 6.5, or does WinMob 6.5 a better, faster, job with SDHC cards?
Greetings,

I bet it's cooked! The cab refers to some dlls which do no exist in stock WM6.5 builds. If you run a cooked version, there's a chance that these files are already in Windows folder. This might be a reason.
OK, as i realized, tnyynt's SD Tuneup is not compatible with the HD2. After installing and soft-resetting, my SD-card was no longer recognized by my HD2. As soon as i uninstalled SD Tuneup and soft-resetted again, the SD-card was recognized.

Hi folks,
is there a way to place TT N3 on my 512 MB SD card? Since I've got the maps on it and TT N3 is of no use without them, I just would find it logical to put them together and remove the whole lot by taking the SD out.
The BT GPS receiver software should still stay on the MDA.
Thanks
It wont work because some files are also written to the main memory even if you choose sd card as install destination.
You can move the app itself over to SD but performance suffers badly and it results in frequent lock-ups. It's not a supported configuration and best avoided.
During installation of TTN3 I installed the app on Storage Card and not in Main memory. Indeed a few items are installed on main memory, but the main app itself resides on CD Card. I have not experienced a lockup o f TTN3 during normal use.
I am a happy user of TTN3 on SD Card.
O2 XDA-I 32 MB:
ROM Version: 4.01.16 ENG
ROM Date: 02/04/04
Radio Version: 4.16.00
Protocol version: 32S54
The lockups occur most on MDAII/XDA2/Qtek2020/iMate.
It is all dependent on the max. data-transfer rate of your SD-card.
I can run from SD fine, IF I do not use POI.
BTW: I dont see the advantage for MDAII/XDA2/Qtek2020/iMate to run completely from SD. With every Hard-reset you will have to re-install because of the tiny bits that are installed in main memory.
For XDA1 I can imaginge that limited memory space is a reason.
tomtom on sd
i have tomtom on my sd!
it can be done!
The app and all components in their own folders on the sd!
From my experience installing TomTom on the SD card does not seem to work to good…
Poor performance huh!!!!
hmmm not sure about the poor performance!
Could you advise me of what I will gain by adding TomTom3 to my XDA rather than my 512mb SD card?
I would love to know what I am missing out on speed wise!
After a short amount of time TomTom just starts to slow down and then dies!! - Installing TomTom into Main Memory or Storage/ExtRom works fine...
Jimbob, are you saying that you could remove your sd card and have a complete install of tomtom 3 on it, if you try the sd in another phone/pda I think you will find errors thrown up because files will be missing.
...

You are correct!
I have tried it! it works fine!

Thats not how it works!
If you had any shred of brains, you will know that processes only run as quick as the item they are running on!
As long as all other apps and utils are not running, TomTom will run at full capacity!

JimBobUk, there are other ways to point out that someone is wrong. Merlin was not offensive, so no reason for you to react like that.
now for the issue:
My experience is that TomTom can lock-up IF the data transfer rates of your SD-card are not high enough. I experienced this. It has nothing to do with TomTom itself, but with the maps/poi files.
I would like to know HOW you did install tomTom on the SD card completely. When I tried it I noticed some bits that were installed in main memory. Also the registry settings are in main memory. THIS means that if you put your SD-card in another (similar) device TomTom wont work. Also, after a hard-reset TomTom wont work.
These findings were reason enough for me NOT to install TomTom itself on SD.
Our US Editor is always looking for ways to install SatNav to memory cards and leave as much precious system memory free. He has been investigating which components of TomTom can safely be installed to a memory card and which need to remain in main memory.
His findings are about to be published in a short guide he has prepared on how best to achieve this with Tomtom Navigator. It requires some work and mods to the registry and there are parts of the install that need to be left installed in main memory if you want a stable system as well as registry entries etc.
It is not possible to install every element of TomTom Navigator to SD such that transferring the card to another device will allow access to TomTom.
i will put my card in another device that does not have TT3 installed and give you the results
......................
So there’s no confusion, I thought I would restate my experiences when installing and using TomTom 3 on an SD Storage Card…
When installing TomTom, for the application I specified that the installed location would be the SD Storage Card. Installation went smoothly and the following components were installed as follows:
Installed onto the SD Storage Card:
TomTom Navigator Voice
TomTom Navigator
Installed into Main Memory:
TomTom Wizard
TomTom GPS
What happens is that the components TomTom Navigator Voice and TomTom Navigator get installed on to the target specified during installation and components TomTom Wizard and TomTom GPS always get installed into Main Memory.
I then install the TomTom Maps on to the SD Storage Card.
The above installation all seemed to worked perfectly… but what I was finding was that when using TomTom in the car and after some time driving, TomTom seemed to slow down… what I mean by this is that the refreshing of the screen slowed down and began to become jerky… some time after this the device would hang which meant doing a soft reset (a little difficult when driving!!)
So I uninstalled TomTom and then reinstalled it, but this time I stated that the installed location for the application would be Main Memory, which meant that only the TomTom Maps would be installed onto the SD Storage Card. By doing this, it all seemed to fix the problem for me…. at the time I did not have time to investigate the reasons why I was having these problems, I just needed to have a working version of TomTom that I could rely on in the car.
The problem could not be anything to do with the number of processes running as I always made a point of closing everything first before running TomTom. Also if it was a process problem, then this would have affected TomTom irrespective of whether it was run from Main Memory or Storage Card.
My conclusion at the time was that it was not going to be suitable for me to run TomTom from the SD Storage Card, and therefore decided to install to Main Memory instead. This has recently changed, however, and I now run TomTom 3 from my Extended Rom which all seems to work great and frees up my Main Memory.
I hope this clarifies my experiences with TomTom 3.
Has anyone else got problems recieving phone calls whilst using TTN3 ?, my phone wont ring whilst TTN3 is running and i seem to miss all my calls,
Is there a solution to this at all ?
Cheers

When you run the installer you choose 'Storage Card' rather than 'Main Memory' but this does not install everything to storage card.
We will be publishing an in-depth guide to how to move everything that can be safely run from the storage card shortly at PocketGPSWorld. There are a few small files that need to be left in main memory to ensure stability.

I used the ExtendedRom Unlocker to gain access to the ExtRom, the download can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=567
I then copied the content from the ExtRom to my SD Storage Card and then deleted everything from the ExtRom.
When reinstalling TomTom you should now be able to select the ExtendedRom as the target installation location...
TomTom SD Card Install?
Hello,
Does anyone know whether it's possible to put an install for Tom Tom onto an SD Card?
I've got to install TT onto like 70 M1000s then ship them out. I'm concerned that the battery may die in transit and main memory will be wiped. In which case TT will need re-installing
I've gotta get an activation code for each copy of TT before installing it onto the M1000 and the install takes over 30mins
With activesync I'm not able to install it onto more than one unit at any one time but if I could copy the files direct to SD card and run the install from there I could save myself a lot of time and hassle! Plus if the battery runs out I could fire up the install and everything would be sweet.
My concern is putting the install onto the SD card and passing the activation code to it.
If anyone knows an answer to this I'd be grateful for some pointers!
Thanks

I guess you mean 4Gb SD Card.
Is it SDHC?
If so, then it would be worth looking in the Universal accessories board at what people have to say, which is 'no' for the sdhc cards.
I bought a 4 Gb card but it is a non-sdhc type so that it would work.
Cheers

I can't seem to find the manufacturer's website. Can you post the the spec sheet of the model you have got?

Exactly...I'm using a 4Gb transcend non-HC and it's works find ...!! I heard about problems concerning the SDHC for the universal... Maybe you should change your SD
Transcend 4GB 'SD' card getting corrupted repeatedly
I have one annoying problem,It is the third time that my Transcend 4GB SD card got corrupted without any reason ( as far as I know ).
It goes like this --I just moved one .jpg image ( clicked with my Universal ) from main memory to card -- a my document--my pictures folder, then I checked it ,the entire my document folder is empty..around 150 MB.No data recovery tool can retrieve it.
The default file explorer and Resco explore read the card differently --950 Mb and 1100 MB respectively. The data is gone, the space 150 MB is gone.On previous two occasions, there was not any transfer of any data from device to card yet it happened .I had the card replaced, but it is very annoying to live in this impending possibility of losing the data.
What is the cause of this problem?WM6?Universal?ROM?4GB?Transcend?
I never had this problem with 1 GB cards. What is the solution? Please suggest something, anything.
There are a couple of WM6 roms which can corrupt your SD card.
But it shouldn't make a difference if you have a 512 mb card or 4 gb.
Did you upgrade to WM6 and then got the 4gb card?
You could try to flash back to the original wm5 rom from your manufacturer, good change the problem's gone then.
ROM change?
No Sir,
I did have this problem with WM5 and to get rid of it I shifted to WM6,but the problem persists.Other people with WM5/6 with 'NCP' 4GB are doing fine,I am also going to try it.Like I said I never had any problems with 1GB.
I like the HTML mail support in WM6 and I need it for the attachments so I'd rather keep WM6.
One more thing, the file explorer SOMETIMES shows two separate folders viz. storage card 1 & storage card 2, and in storage card 1 there are only files called mail attachments. At the same time all the today shortcuts and programmes on the card are 'uninstalled',Then I have to hard reset and install the back-up file and everything comes to normal. What does it mean? Please clarify.

This is a known issue. Sometimes the system forgets about the exixstence of SD card. You can brows here for such cases. People claim that it happens while the battery goes low or for some other reason.
However, if this happens, and some of your apps are set up for using Storage Card for saving it's data, then the system creates a folder named "Storage Card" in the main memory. Then if you softreset or recharge your device, the system finds again your SD card and tries to give it a name "Storadge Card", but this already exists, so it names it as "Storadge Card1", and so on.
Solution:
Ither delete the "Storage Card" folder from main memory or rename it as you wish, and then rename your card as "Storage Card" and softreset your device. It should help.
okay

Okay,
Thanks for explaining and the simple solution.
But a soft reset doesn't solve it,reinstalling the backup(I use SPB)does.
But what about the card getting corrupted, losing data and vanishing folders? Is there any cause and solution for it? Or should I go for another card manufacturer as decided?

SDHC start at 2gb, you have a normal SD.
Native universal SD driver does not support SDHC, the driver ignores CMD8 that is required for SDHC to work. I've purchased 8Gb card and can tell that after patching - Uni started to recognize it. But testing is required before publishing a patch.

Does this patch involve physically deforming the SD Card such that its lifetime warranty (lifetime warranty is applicable to some SD cards only) becomes void?

Hello everybody. I want to know if there is a way (a methode or a software) to create virtual memory on the SD Card and use it as RAM memory (like the swap file in Windows XP).I Have a HTC Trinity WM6 with FAMAN 4.03 beta3 ROM.
And thanx
Why would you want to do this? Most memory cards have very low read & write speeds compared to the real ram so it would slow your device down a lot.
I want to play some games that use huge space of ram (such as call of duty 2, syberia 1 & 2 ...)
Just hunt down in the specific forum for your phone and examine the different ROMs available. You might find one that is maximized for high available RAM. With my Wizard i've found ROMs that can range from 20mb free to 30mb free. Just have to do some digging. Good thing that some ROM cooks provide screenshots of the memory settings page so you can see the available program/storage memory available.
Thank you for the reply, i'll do that.. by the way, were can I find a good software to optimize RAM
SKtools
You may want to try SKtools Auto Clean. But don't expect a revolution ...
I did the memory maid test and it said that the system could read and write at 100Mbyte/s having something to do with the SD card, so it must be possible, although the cards external readings where 8 Mbyte/s
you are misreading something somewhere
even the fastests harddisks rarely do 100MB/sec
fast sdcards do 8MB/sec but only in readers
the sd interface of pda's prob can't read more then 2MB/sec
you can bench using pocket mechanics
even though it is not practical i still am interested in using sd card as swap space can it be done? has it been done?
WinMo doesn't support swap concept.
If you are out of RAM, you are out of RAM.

Hi all,
i have a problem with my Route 66.
I have the official/legal Route 66 so no warez or stuff.
When i try to download a map inside in the Route 66 program.
In the application i have to possibilty to download the maps. The only problem is that the maps are somehow stored on the device and not on my SD card.
I have a HTC TP and i don't have enough storage on my internal memory to save the map. I want to save the downloaded maps to my Storage Card.
Who can help.
Thanks for the responses

But the prog is already installed on the sd card and not on main memory
Now that is strange... I've honestly never even heard of such a problem before. I really wish I could help you but I have no idea. My suggestion would have been to install to SD card and see if it saves to the SD card but it seems the app is made for the Diamond as it's trying to save to internal memory.
Strange indeed... Does the program have options in the settings anywhere on where to save files?

No there is no option where to install it. Isn't there any config file or something like that where i can change the string for saving?

Hey guys,
I've been looking for something I had on my wizard a while back. I had something that made my SD card appear as if it was the wizard's hard drive. I remember when I would look at memory, it would show under internal memory something like 2000mb as opposed to the standard 50mb. I've searched all around and was never able to find that again.
At the same time, I was wondering if UC capable roms are not the same thing...? Anyone care to explain exactly what that means?
Thanks,
Phil

WM5torage
Don't really think that WM5torage is what Cphil1 is looking for. WM5torage simply makes your Wizard's SD card visible as would a "pen drive" from your PC. It doesn't "tag on" the card's larger memory to the smaller internal one - which if I understand correctly, is what Cphil1 is after.
Cheers.
Well...
So far, no luck...
I still haven't found that app. I'm very disappointed that I flashed my roms without remembering that I had something like that!
Anyways, I still would like to know what is the complete definition of UC capable. Would it be a way to store program files on the storage card all the while running it from the ppc?
Phil
UC
Far as I know, and that's very limited indeed, UC stands for User-Customisable (Customised). ROMs that are UC capable auto-install a predefined set of applicatons located on one's SD. So basically, one can preconfigure the stuff one wants to have installed and "newer" ROMs would automatically read the list and install apps accordingly.
Hope that helps.
