Application installed in device instead of storage card - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hi there, i am not sure if anyone has experienced this problem, i tried to install these games ( Xtrat and Experiment 13 ) onto the storage card, but even though i clicked storage card, there were somehow being installed in the main memory of the device. I tried twice already and it is still the same. Any suggestion?

there's file path built-in in the cab...
if the files are hard coded.... I guess the only way is to rebuild the cab file....

that's what i was thinking. The built in memory for HD2 is quite limited. wish there is more....
thanks anyway

USING STORAGE CARD AS MEMORY

Hey. I'm really new to this forum.. and please excuse me if i'm being ignorant at any time. Just bought a new XDAii Mini and realised that the memory is very less which makes the phone work very slow at time specially if multiple programs are running. So since the memory is only around 60mb or so... can't we utilize the space from our storage memory to work as memory ... basically.. can't the phone use storage memory to work faster... pls advice.
tried searching this forum for answers.. but i gave up.. any help would be appriciated. thanks.
if you've already installed programs i advise a soft reset.
-optionally install the big rom hack to get an extra 20mb of "storage" memory.
-then find a program called cabinstl to re-install all your programs to storage card.
-optionally use a program called memmaid to relocate various large dlls (support files) to storage or storage card.
v
After vijay advise, read this thread and I gurantee U could get at least 35mb free memory space on startup
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=16785
using MM to move the dll files to storage card, how much memory will that get you and also if hard reset, the dll will be back to main memory, correct?. Thanks

TomTom 5 to the storage card?

Hi,
anybody managed to install TT5 to storage card? WM5 has so little memory so TomTom5 would be nice to get on card.
I don't understand why some progs wants to go devices own memory even I say install on storage card.
On the otherhand, I haven't got it working at all. I've installed the cabs and patched 5.21 exe with the backlight hex, but the first start process exits when I have selected the language for speech. This happens with and without the hex fix.
Click on ttn.cab. It is in your 2577 folder on the SD Card. Also have a look at

Increase Storage space for WM2005

How can we I the storage space of WM2005 From 14.54MB to around 32MB?
I kept on running out of disk space. After installing all my programs, I end up with just 3.53MB. Most if not all of my programs are even installed in the flashdisk.
I would appreciate any help any one of you can give me on this matter. Thanks!
This is the exact problem I am having too. I tried installing memmaid but there was nothing to remove from the memory and the storage > memory slider will not move. I tried unlocking the extended memory but the programs would not run (nothing at all happens) and I tried using doc tool but it doesn't seem to have done anything. On my XDA2 I have the 64/64 version of wm5 installed and have 56mb spare. I have 3 out of 14mb spare on the storage disk and cant find anything to remove. I have a 2gb SD card in the unit.
Can someone help please?
Thanks
I tried the same version 64/64 until earlier this afternoon. I downgraded to 32/96 so that I may have a larger storage space. but alas! Nothing happened.
You can use "HIMA doc tools" to delete almost all ext ROM and join it with storage thus having 30MB of storage.
HOVEWER! DON'T instal anything in this storage!
Storage in MDA2 is slow, and in WM5 is regularly compacted via proces filesys.sys (or sth like this). When you are filling storage, compacting it will take longer and longer and Himalaya works slower and slower...
In short: install everything on RAMDisc provided in the newest ROMs
If you want easy way, install ROM from this thread, it's the newest ROM available:
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/id,23348/catid,26/
or this one (older but proven to be quite stable)
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_simpleboard/Itemid,59/func,view/id,19690/catid,26/
If you like tweaking, take a look at ROM kitchen:

Marx2,
How do we do that? Sorry I donno a thing about reprograming. I will appreaciate it though if you could guide me. Thanks!
I was able to unlock and erase some parts of the extended ROM. However, I do not know how to merge the space that I freed and the current storage space that I have. Any suggestions?

SDA Storage problems

Hey! New here, read quite a bit... I have managed to Application unlock my phone and have been able to add mp3 ring tones. I am trying to install the .NET Framework for app I'd like to try but I am getting errors saying I can't install due to lack of space. Are there things I can delete? I moved all my pics n stuff to my 1gig card already. Can most applications be installed / run from the sd card?
Thanks for your input!

install netcf v2 in your storage card
There is a version that can be installed onto the storage card, I don't know why MS made this so difficult.
Search around, I forget exactly where the directions are, but someone did a nice write up tutorial.

I am also facing the similar problems with installation of .NET Compact Framework and could not succeded yet. Can anyone suggest the solution for this problem. Thanks in advance.
Try to copy the CAB on you MiniSD then execute it from there..
The version of Net CF2 that can be installed on storage card is the service pack 1 version. It will install through ActiveSync, and when that happen, usually the file will be copied to the main memory first and then installed from there to whicever location is chosen. In this case, you will get an error saying that installation failed due to lack of space.
Just go to your ActiveSync folder in your desktop and you will see the CAB file there. Copy it over to your storage card and install from there.
.NET CF Installation
Even after executing the CAB file from storage card, it is giving the same problem. How to go ahead ?

Still could not able to install .NET CF2, even with the rapidshare download. Any other way ?
Same here... I haven't had any luck installing the .net pgm at all...
Maybe this bump might help us!

You need about 5.5M free on-board storage to get this to install. I had to move my entire /windows/appmgr folder to the storage card *temporarily* while I installed it. Then just moved it back after. This was the ONLY way I could get this to go...5.5M MINIMUM.
Good luck,

Effect of flashing a new ROM on Storage Card apps/games?

After flashing a new ROM, the softwares and games installed on Storage Card should run properly, isn't it? As I think that flashing a new ROM only have changes in the device memory and nothing on the Storage Card.
The memory used in storage card is same as before flashing the ROM. But, after flashing, in the Apps and Games folder there are only those which are pre-installed in the ROM and nothing from the Storage Card.
Do I need to install those apps n games again to the Storage Card?
Do we need to do this every time after flashing?
THanks
Sometimes... If you install the program in storage card, additional files may be put in internal storage space more likely in \windows dir, or may happen that the program writes some settings in registry hive or other places so when reflashing they won't find all they need to work properly, that happens more likely in big complex programs, others will just keep running fine after reflashing as they don't have more dependencies than the files in the dir they were installed.

I also had the same problem ...
But now whenever I have to flash another rom a copy the startmenu folder from my mobile device windows folder and after flashin the rom I copy the the links inside that folder back inside the startmenu folder of my new windows folder of device... I put links of games to games folder and programs to programs folder...and what i get is out of 50 files not more then 3 files do problem...I reinstall them and every thing works perfect for me...U can also try this
If you can start the exe without problems then you can create new Links to the Games / Apps exe-file.
But as mentioned before, some Apps / Games store file into internal Storage or even in the Registry. This could cause Trouble.
