WM or Android Dual-Touch Phones? - General Topics

Are there any Windows Mobile or Android phones that have a dual-touch sensor like the iPhone/iPod touch? What I mean is, a phone that can recognize when you touch 2 spots on the screen at once?

The G1 or Htc dream has multi touch ( that's the correct name for that function) but you need to flash a custom rom for that. I'm no sure but i think that htc saphire and hero have multi touch as well

multi touch
htc hd2 but i have read this is only in some applications (Opera Mobile e.t.c)

HTC hero (android, sprint) has mulitouch enabled out of the box and so will the touch hd2 (windows mobile). Multitouch depends on the hardware so through software it can be enabled and older phones with the hardware like the G1

It depends on weather the screen is capacitive or resistive, im pretty sure resistive touch screens cant do multitouch but the benefit is that resistive are much more accurate

That couldn't be more true. Resistive is more accurate.
You wanna know why other phones are gonna be better than the iPhone. They will support MULTI touch. Not just 2 finger touch. Look at the Zune HD. That can support up to 4 finger touches. Mebe 5. (I gotta go check)

im really hoping they come out with a Zune HD type phone.. that would be amazing

+1 to that.
Am I the only person that wants an MP3 player and Cell phone all in one? It's really hard to find a phone with a 3.5mm headphone jack. I hate needing an adapter.

The iPhone surely supports more than two fingers as my brother's ipod touch has an app that has a 3 finger gesture/press.

That's rather intresting cause I could never get my ipod touch to do more than 2. Might be app dependent. But I can use any amount anywhere no the zune.

That would be awesome! I could get blue screen crashes everytime I call work.. Now I have an excuse for not calling in... My phone says "unknown error" lolz microsoft... If they make a zune phone, I will run as far as I can from the store that sells it. good advice to keep close...

It would be great if we could have something like this what I found in the StarTrek Forum

the difference between pro and standard lies mainly in touchscreen support. So we will never be able to satisfy it even if most of Pro stuffs do work on Standard devices such as Vox.

True, but with Fake Cursor it would be possible to get touch screen support on the Vox by using thhe D pad, and you don't need a dial pad as the keypad does that. if the StarTrek Forum can get it to work properly then it should in theory be possible to get it working on the Vox.
Roland
yeah, if fakecursor would get better like fastermovement and it would be smoother it would be great, i mean fake cursor moves a bit stiff and i would like to see it move more smoothly
SPHelper is a lot better than FakeCursor, FYI.

FYI, SPHelper "is a lot better" in Standart OS only, not in Professional. And its shareware.

If you are so stupid for googling it than please shut up. I getting really mad when people says the words which they are dont know.
The main difference between Standart and Professional is that Professional supports Pocket PC applications, which is the most valuablest for smarphone devices.

Multi-touch piano?

Does anyone know if there are any multi-touch piano apps for the HD2? iPhone has it and hopefully WM will get it also now that capacitive screens are coming
I have contacted the maker of Omniano, and he said that he'll look into it.
That would be fun!
As far as I've understood, the HD2 (or rather WM6.5) does NOT support multi-touch.
It only supports pinch-to-zoom.

The HD2 supports multi-touch. The devs on xda have found out how to do "dual-touch" from other apps that are on the phone, but nothing more.
That does not mean that the phone is not multi-touch.
I have istalled a simple aplication that shows that, is called I3V5y Multitouch (serach in the forum) shows the "dual-touch"... more than one is mulit

Pappagallo was saying that the HD2 only supports dual-touch, or "pinch-to-zoom", as HTC insist on calling it.
True multi-touch would be the ability to detect you putting as many fingers on the screen as you can!

I don't think so.
The hardware of HD2 is multi-touch ready, but the software does not support it (because it is WM). A "single-touch" application that is installed on a multi-touch device, it doesn't mean that it will understand multi-touch input, but the developer must rewrite that application to support multi-touch input.
Why people so concern about multi touch if you can do it all in one finger. Why bother to use more fingers which is more inconvience.
I tired I3V5y Multitouch, it is fun, but not much useful. I look forward to more compatible softwares for multi-touch function.

Well, this very thread is about piano multi-touch which would be a big improvement. You don't see any pianists playing with only one finger, do you?

If you read a little further up, you'd see that I was actually saying that the HD2 IS multi-touch. I think it's quite clear from my descriptions that I understand what a "single-touch" application is, and since I've been developing software for nearly 30 years, I also understand that an application limitation will mean that "the developer must rewrite that application to support multi-touch input."
Thanks for the help though.
So what about the Piano Application ?
Any news?

Two reasons off the top of my head, firstly games playing... the ability to move and shoot, jump, etc...
Secondly and most annoying to me, trying to unlock the phone one handed... the palm of my hand touches the bottom right corner of the screen and so my finger trying to S2U doesnt get recognised, this happens whenever I let a friend look at my phone too becaue people are not used to having to use two hands or being carefull not to touch the screen anywhere but where you need to (not easy when the screen surround is so thin)!!

^^--- this dude doesn't know much about the benefit of multi-touch. it opens a lot of possibilities to a phone like finger touch gestures. multi-touch can also mean multi-task.

Android on the TP2

Is there a thread for Android for the TouchPro 2
**Bump**
+1 on this?
I don't think anyone made one yet... I guess this could be it.

Seeing as a true Android CDMA rom is in the far off distant future I think we should all just stick with virtualization.
Luckily it seems that VMware is looking to answer our prayers and give us a true dual booting cell phone OS option. Not just that we'll be able to run these two operating systems at once! I'm sure the Touch Pro 2 shouldn't have a problem handling such a task.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/12/07/vmware-outline-plans-for-dual-os-virtualization-on-mobile-phones/
Until then, sit back and relax. I'm sure we'll be seeing this before Windows Phone 7.
touch Pro 2 has a resistive screen. Ive only heard of android working on Capacitive screens. the HD2 has a Capacitive screen so it may work on that.

HTC Vogue (aka Touch) has a resistive screen... and Android works great with it. Capacitive versus resistive is a non-issue.
I really hope someone gets Android working. I have it on my XV6800 which feel in water so all my physical keys are not working. I have impressed a lot of android users with my phone and now I am looking to get the TP2.

[REQ] Virtual Guitar for HD2?

I've seen this for IPhone and Symbian but can't find for HD2. Is there something like that for it or I just have to wait. If HD2 is Multitouch there should be no problem to make program like that. Hope someone do it soon cos it will be a lot of fun.
Guitar Hero is on Marketplace - it is however a paid app.
lol totally not what he was asking for...
unsure whether the guitar type apps would work as they would require more that 2-point multitouch.. if i remember rightly there is a limitation.. so yea it may work just can't hold mutliple strings..
I'm waiting for someone to develop true multi-touch drivers so that I can develop this exact application. I wouldn't hold your breath though mate!
Wait wait wait...
Is the HD2 multitouch or dualtouch ??
Well i thought that was part of the reason why the HD2 couldn't get WP7.. it's not true multitouch.. but again i could be wrong.. read it in multiple parts of the forum.... if i have got the wrong end of the stick then please disregard my post!!!!
There was some kind of hardware limitation on the Capactive Screen.. but can remember where i saw it.... ..
johnc... you are well versed in this forum.. can you remember where it was mentioned
I would like a free app to play bass. You don't need chords for playing bass, and so you don't need multitouch.

Lol yea ok...blimey
shall i request a Sitar app and the banjo app as well? heheheh
and anyway.. on a bass you would still need to strum a string at a time and still hold your fingers on the correct part of the fret board .. so it could quite often be more than 2x multitouch..
I'm so hoping you're wrong.
And btw the one app I was waiting for patiently, was a guitar app like the thread starter wanted. And this is the app where the multitouch shine.
EDIT :
OMG you ARE right. the API doesn't support multi-touch, only dual. It should support it when WP7S arrive to HD2 and that will be ... NEVER.
Even so I don't want WP7S just to use MT. I hate the 7 UI.
well i kind of stand corrected...
the Hardware DOES support the multitouch but it does require the correct drivers..

This app by Iperov used to work great on my Touch Pro. I've tried it on my HD2, but it doesn't fill the screen and it seems to be buggy. http://www.freewareppc.com/multimedia/iperovspocketguitar.shtml
I'd love to see it work on the HD2 as you could map chords to the buttons and strum the large screen. Does anyone have info on an HD2 version?
Check this app

Ok, I did not check the CPU, but if money is no object, go to HTCs website and look at the details for these:
1) HTC Shift
2) HTC HD2
3) HTC Hero
4) HTC Touch Pro/2
5) HTC Touch Diamond 2

For WM get the HD2!
I can vouch for the Nexus One. Google-supported, meaning lots of rom updates (hopefully), lots of great features out of the box, intuitive UI, speedy phone with the Snapdragon processor.
If you get one, try and protect the screen. It seems that the screen can get hairline scratches easily. Treat it like your child
