Hello Everyone,
I was curious as I cannot find a definitive answer to this. Looking at the specs page on HTC (http://www.htc.com/uk/product/hd2/specification.html), it appears that this phone would possibly be usable on a US carrier. I am wondering if using the method in the link below might apply to the HD2 as well. Before you ask why I don't just wait for it to come stateside...well, what's the fun in that?

US Leo
Went to the ATT store yesterday to look at the Pure (hated it) and they went online to check the specs and assured me it would run on their network if it was unlocked!
Yeah...I saw that. Problem is that I am currently with AT&T and am looking to switch to a CDMA carrier. Not too happy with AT&T or T-Mobile at the moment. =\
The word is that it will come to US carriers in The first quarter of 2010. The European specs suggest it will be to AT$T or T-Mobile.
Funny, I switched to AT$T a few years back because Sprint and Verizon really sucked.
After ten years with Nextel and then Sprint, my Blackberry's screen cracked and the hangup button stuck making the phone almost unusable. Even though I was 2 months before my contract was upgrade available, they refused to, after ten years with them, subsidize a new phone. Suffered with my phone for two more months and switched to AT$T, so far they have been great to me.
Somehow I doubt it will come to AT&T, unless they are smart enough to see that this is the best contender against the iPhone. AT&T's monopoly with Apple makes them complacent and slow to provide their customers with alternatives.

Check the vid. This is the snappy WinMo phone we've been waiting for!
HTC HD2---Battery Size, is this 1230 " BIG ENOUGH"???
It's not a Beast, it's Beautiful! The Russians have given us size comparison & review, a must read. It still needs work but so far it's showing itself to be at the top of the list. I believe when it gets updated it will arrive in the US.

I agree, I just don't see it happening. Part of the reason why I left AT&T (and my iPhone) was because of the massive amount of dropped calls. I finally got fed up and switched. But considering the amount of trouble they are having with the iPhone, I doubt they would pickup it's best competitor.
Hmm, I can't remember the last time I dropped a call. Probably happens more in "population dense" areas (e.i., not here).
Anyway, I want to find the answer to this question as well. From all the specs I see the phone is theoretically capable of running on AT&T's 3G (UMTS 850 and 1900 Mhz).
Source: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2062&c=htc_hd2_us_htc_leo
However, I'm not an expert on US phone bands. Perhaps a seasoned XDA developer could help us with this?
Those specs on pdadb are not final "Datasheet State: Preliminary specifications".
But yes, it would do 3G on at&t if finalized UMTS 850 & 1900 Mhz).
I bought one
I just purchased one from amazon on pre-order, my cousin is shipping it to me as soon as it gets to him.
Anyone up for working on building an android rom for for it, not a big fan of WinMobile. In-fact this is the whole reason I got it besides the fact its a sweet phone!!!

This does sound weird..If the main reason of getting the phone is android, why not just wait for a native android phone that has a similar spec? (e.g. HTC Dragon / Acer Liquid / Experia X3)

Not trying to be a jerk, but I figured I would share my insight/experience with the issue you had with Sprint/Nextel, and will probably have with AT&T and any other provider you go with.
I work for T-Mobile currently, and have been there for over 5 years now (and will tell you right now, The HD2 is coming to us.) The issue you had is the most common complaint in the industry. The truth is, no matter where you go, it'll be the same thing. On top of it not being "fair" to customers that are just as loyal, but only have 7 years tenure instead of 10 years, it's the fact that you "only being 2 months away from your full discount pricing," that company could potentially be losing 2 months of your commitment. Meaning, if they make you wait till your contract is over, they'll get a fresh 2 years out of you. If they give it to you 2 months before your contract is over, they'll only get 22 months out of you. You see my point ? Now, what I personally think should be done is, you have 2 months to go ? Okay, we'll make your contract be a solid 26 months, and you get your "full discount" today, early.
Cellphone customers really need to be grateful about getting plan discounts, loyalty credits, full upgrades, partial upgrades. Because let me tell you. Not every business out there gives loyal customers anything. I've been a loyal "Florida Power and Light" customer for 6 years, never had a late payment and inturn have never been given a discount on my electric bill. I mean, how often does your credit card company send you a letter saying, "Hey, you've been such a loyal customer...here's a 12% off discount for being a AAA member, and for every customer you refer to us we'll give you $175 credit to your bill!" Ya know ? I'm not expecting anyone to LIKE this answer. But it IS the reason, and I'm sure the rep's answer that you're dealing with at the time, "Because!," doesn't do it for you. So I figured I'd take the time to inform you guys.

Since you work for T-Mo can post the final specs for the HD2 when they get finalized for the US? I'm with ATT and haven't had a problem with dropped calls for 4 years now.(I think it's something wrong with build of the Iphone) I'm not trying to switch carriers, just want a badass phone.
I want to know what will we be missing in TP2
if we dont get the Htc HD2 ?
All i see is-
HD will be Faster cos 1 Ghz processor
Has capacitive touch screen
It will have the weather under Clock pre-installed

Will it run on H or just 3g ( seems like ATT is blocking Hsdpa cos of Heavey load)
Will we be able to do Tethering with it ?
Cos Att blocks that
Anything else im Missing Please ?
Which is the best safe Site to Order with here in USA ?
Hate it when later they say its not here yet

I just got off the phone with a HTC tech support. I had some questions about the release date. I wanted to know if it was going to release in Q1 2010 fiscal or Q1 2010 calendar. Get this, he said all he knew was Q1 2010 to T-mobile. sucks for me because T-mobile is non-existent in my neck of the woods.
I agree (I'm w/SECO) but TMO reception is really bad where I live & I've been following the 'LEO' for a long time patiently waiting for it & if it's only going to TMO I think I'm going to ... well maybe get some sort of 'mi-fi' to use it. I need a phone & the HD2 is what I want. Thanks

Why is that?

From the looks of it, cdma is located next to lte in the data section. This obviously can't be a rumor seeing as its on the actual site. Let me know what you guys think. Is this the moment we sprint users have waited for?
Also, under network, it says varies.
Given the way Sprint releases updates for touchwiz phones, a Nexus would be awesome!
I'm kinda sad, I wanted the HSPA+ version here
You could order it from eBay and put it on tMobile
I want to like this phone. But it's features aren't that great. Since this is a developers phone I hope they put the 1280 x 720 screen inside of the SGS3. Just a thought.....
I don't get the rollout for this version of the Nexus. Google has released 2 Nexus phones now that were capable of working on either T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. Now all of a sudden it's a Verizon exclusive in the states?
So much for keeping your loyal customer base happy. Verizon is great, but I don't see myself switching from AT&T to get this phone anytime soon. It's almost like it isn't a Nexus at all anymore. Just a Verizon version of the Galaxy S 2.
Guess I'm off to see how I can import a version....
I've read many rumors lately about a Sprint release in early 2012, I think we may see it
I was hoping sooner than 2012. Im only 16 so im getting my new phone for christmas. As of now, i believe, i will be stuck with a sgs2. Its not a bad phone, but i was just hoping sprint would release one more big item before the holidays. Their last big release was the sgs2 in september
Exactly the same here. Verizon isn't a terrible carrier, but with all these benefits, there's no way in hell I'm ever switching from T-Mobile anytime soon. I guess Google won't get my money if they're not releasing on T-MoUSA before the holidays.

That's expensive as f*ck.
Ummm just a reminder Verizon is a CDMA carrier as well...
Just unlocked my Galaxy Nexus after 3 days of research. It can be done.
Are there any interesting VZW phones on the horizon? I picked up my Thunderbolt in March of last year, and have been fairly happy with it (main issues are size & battery life). When looking at Verizon's site, no new phone really jumps out of me, but as I haven't been following phone forums in a while, I'm not sure where the best place to research is on new phones due to come out.
Watch Droid-life.com They talk about phone rumors for Verizon.
The next phone out of Verizon will be the incredible 4g. Not a big upgrade from The thunderbolt but solid phone anyways. Should be out in the next few weeks. Other than that there is the Galaxy S3, Razr HD, and the LG Optimus LTE2 all coming out sometime later this summer. After that some awesome stuff should be out around Thanksgiving/Christmas with Jellybean.
Total speculation here, but Verizon might wait to release these phone until they have their new tiered data share plans to force people into those if they want a new phone...
This thread is for all of us Verizon guys who are looking to buy the SGS3. So far the info that is out is that the Pre-order is starting on the 6th of June at 7am EDT, source can be found HERE. It will be $199 for the 16gb and $249 for the 32gb version. There should be the white verzion and the pebble blue version of it as well. So far these are the specs look to be the same as the international version of the SGS3 except that it has the S4 processor and 2gb of ram instead of 1gb. Here is a LINK to some leaked pic's of the Verizon SGS3.
This thread is for just us Verizon guys to chat about who's buying one, comparing them to other Verizon or competitors phones, new's updates on the phone and much more. Also, this thread should help cut down on the random Verizon wireless threads in hopes that all info can be in this thread and not into many posts in the SGS3 section. That will help out other users when they are trying to find out info about this phone. They will not have to go to many different threads to find info about the phone. Hopefully soon we will have a dedicated section just for our version of this phone! Please keep this thread on topic
OK, so if you have a unlimited data plan you MUST pre-order prior to the 28th of June to keep it. Any pre-order or phone purchased after the 28th will be put on a shared family plan if you have multiple lines. There is about 500+ posts within this thread about it. So please read this and let's move on from this topic please. It's been beaten to death already. Also, enough with the "I talked to a rep here" or "I chatted with a rep" about the same issue. Customer reps in general are clueless to many things
- It will ship between the 9th-11th probably depending on when you preordered.
- If you preorder it prior to the 28th you will keep your unlimited data plan. Anything after that, you will have to pay full price for your phone if you want to retain your unlimited plan.
- If you are an existing customer, you can choose to keep your current plan or upgrade to the family shared plans. Depending on your needs.
- July 10th, the SGS3 will be available in store. 16gb only: Droid-life.com
- New customers and anyone adding a line only plan option will be the Shared plan if you have a family account.
- Here is a copy of VZW Shared plans that were leaked: Box.com
- If it ship's early, that would be great.
- Here is an great article explaining the benefits of why having the S4 and 2gb of ram is better in some ways than a quad-core and 1gb of ram: Tmonews.com
- Pre-Order your SGS3 from VZW's website now!!!: VZW Pre-Order Page
- Best Buy is already taking Pre-orders. Just walk in and preorder it and you should be set. They have a 14 day return, 30 day exchange policy on the phone: Phandroid.com
- Rumor has it that it will ship on the 6th or the 9th of July. Here is an article about it: Smartkeitai.com
- Supposed to come out with a software update to allow global roaming support: PhoneArena.com
- If you are wondering about the camera quality, check out this thread: Camera Pics from the International S3 taken by users
- For those who are worried about losing your unlimited data plan when upgrading to the SGS3 check this article out: Starkinsider.com
- Apple is trying to block the SGS3 just like they did the HTC One Series: Wirelessandmobilenews.com
- Samsung claims that Apple's request to stop the phone will not hinder the launch of it in North America: Huffingtonpost.com
- Apparently VZW SGS3 will not have the 50gb Dropbox account like everyone else will: Droid-life.com and Dropbox.com
- Court has ruled that the SGS3 will not be blocked by Apple and will resume it sales: Droid-Life.com
- Costco Is Pre-Ordering it as well. See this post for links: XDA Post
- Here is a video review of the SGS3 LTE Version:
All signs are pointing to a June 21 release. Has anyone pre-ordered a phone from verizon? this is the first phone that Ive pre-ordered. How does it work? Do they ship the phone the day of release or can you pick it up in store? thanks
I'm hoping Best Buy gets this right out of the gate. I've got a 50 dollar credit with them. The guy at the store told me today that they hadn't heard anything yet. So stoked for this. Now lets just hope I can keep unlimited data!
So glad its coming out soon, and not in October.
Gonna pre order as soon as I can. Praying I can keep my unlimited data because 4G coverage is faster than my wifi. My Inc2 has been a good phone but it's time for a change!

i called today because I just came eligible for an upgrade, he said you simply call and request one but they don't actually process and bill your account until they ship them out. I didn't ask about picking up in store, he said they ship them out as if that's the only way it works.

and yes, anyone with 3G or 4G unlimited grandfathered data can keep it still
however with one caveat...he said if you preorder it 6-6-12 and by some rare chance they update their upgrade/data policy as has been rumored to be happening this summer, and it happens before the phones ship on 6-21 (my words not his, he didn't confirm ship date), then you are subject to the new terms.....at the time they bill and ship it.....not at the time you pre-ordered it
talk about the most diabolical thing they could do, get all the left over unlimited 4G data users in the queue and then flip the switch on the shared data a few days before the 21st......oh boy would that not go well....
Called target today to ask if they get phones same day as retail stores . Guy said it depends, so I asked about gs3, waiting for him to skate around it but he said let me check the sheet and said they will have it ...took my name and # and said he'd have the manager call me Wednesday to pre order.
This is T-Mobile BTW....Anyone seen anything about T-Mobile price? I hope its 199...I have a $100 gift card there at target.
Different target stores do different providers..but looks like they'll have stock and usually have better prices.

please link because that is exactly the opposite of what I was told. and from my experience, you agree to the terms on the day you make the transaction, which is essentially your acceptance of the new contract terms.....you aren't bound by any terms on a simple request for a pre-order. I'm not claiming to know, but I can tell you from experience, they are very very adamant about that. The moment you sign a receipt or accept a device, etc...is the very mechanism they use to document your new contract terms. I know from experience. It doesn't matter what they said, all that matters is what it was the moment you hit the button to accept.

yeah I found it and I don't believe it. I think the rep spoke out of turn. I think the truth of it is whatever it is on the day you agree to the terms is what they will hold you to. (which would happen on the day they bill and ship it, not the day you verbally ask to get in line)
Damn this whole ordeal is stressing me out. Maybe I can sign on early if I go preorder in store... Seemingly not though because Verizon seems to tell their reps to pretend to know nothing of what is going on. Whether that is true or not, I am not sure..
So, if there is actually a risk of losing unlimited data going the preorder route, here is a thought: Get an iPhone 4S on contract ASAP; keep your $30 unlimited plan; promptly sell the unused iPhone; bank the $350 profit from the sale of the iPhone; use the $350 to offset the cost of a GS3 off contract - maybe even get the RAZR HD later on if that's your preference. It's basically a wash - maybe a little extra work, but worth it if it means another 2 or 3 years of unlimited data. That's all we really need - hopefully by then, the other carriers will have respectable LTE networks.
Being on Sprint, I can say that the hope for lte is rather small...they're looking at probably mid-2013 at the earliest for the majority of the country. Granted that's mostly speculation, but pretty dismal none the less. My contract is up in August but I'm hoping to jump ship to VZW in July...just really bummed the unlimited data isn't offered anymore.
EDIT: just noticed the 2-3 year time frame you stated. If Sprint can keep the unlimited data after the upgrade, they stand to be the top provider with lte speeds and unlimited data. I guess time will only tell huh?

Just preorder it and if they change the plans and say that you can't stay where you are at, cancel your preorder.

True - but it sure would suck to loose the subsidy because I waited too long. I've been sitting on an upgrade since November. Hopefully, VZW will provide some warning. As I recall, they gave a pretty reasonable warning period last summer when they started the tiered plans.
No use speculating. Whatever happens, happens. Truthfully, I have grown so dependent on my phone over the last few years, I'm at a point where shelling out $550 for a new device just doesn't seem nearly as crazy as it used to.

My wife and I ditched Sprint when the GNex came out. I looked back at what I paid to "upgrade" after to years to the Instinct and then to the EVO 4G after another 2 years, and it was cheaper to get two new phones from Verizon and pay ETF to Sprint than to "upgrade" with them. All that and our town of 150,000 didn't get 3G with them until 2010, and it would slow down to unusable at all times other than the middle of the night. Verizon just rolled out LTE here over the weekend. I miss unlimited data, and Sprint is cheaper than the other contract carriers, but since data never really worked here, it was worth it for us to jump ship.
Here's what I have decided. I am going to preorder one on each of my lines. Verizon said they would give plenty of warning for when they will change the tiers. Make the preorder and I have it. If they do it I am out. I don't think they will if they are really shooting for the same June release as everyone else. It just is not that much time. If everything goes well and I get the devices, I will sell one on ebay the day I get it, give my wife one of my backup phones to get her on 4g and wait for the next iPhone to give her later this year.

Yeah, I figure Sprint can do unlimited data cause their speeds are so slow and Wimax is so spotty that they're not really providing that much data to users...a VZW rep told me about their buy back program and I plan on switching lines with my wife and using her evo design to cover what's left of my etf so I can actually have good data speed, even if I'm limited to 4GB usage. I figure that's better than having a 4G device that can't be fully used y'know?

I posted this on WPCentral's Arrive forum, figured I'd post this here as well... I went down to the Sprint corporate store on 42nd street in NYC the other day for kicks and noted that the HTC Arrive was nowhere to be found. The same could be said for the three Sprint Authorized Retailers around where I live. No Arrives in stock and 2 out of the 3 had no demo units on the floor (the one that did had a non-working dummy).
I asked a rep about it and he told me that as of the last signage/price changes and updates, the Arrive was listed as EOL, but it's in their systems and on sprint.com as $49.99 after $50 mail-in rebate should someone want to order one.
Hopeful for a Windows Phone 8 announcement or has Sprint officially given up?
The Arrive has been out for just over a year. It is pretty old by todays cell standards so I would just be patient for WP8 as I would bet all Windows Phone sales have slowed down since the WP8 anouncement. Lets just hope that HTC doesn't play hardball and actually develops a Arrive 2 and keeps the HW keyboard alive.
...and we wonder where Windows Phone support on Sprint went to... look no further -
Sprint CEO says paying over $15 billion for the iPhone was money well spent | iMore.com
Quoted from the CEO Hesse himself -
“I think the No. 1 thing was getting the call from Apple that they were interested in at least having the opportunity,” Hesse said. Of course, the company and its board had to take a hard look at the economics. Selling the iPhone is good for the long term, Hesse said, noting that customers are more valuable in the long term. But, in the short term, it is costly, as the company spends more in subsidies to attract those iPhone buyers.
“We committed to $15.5 billion over four years in purchases,” Hesse said. “That’s a large commitment. ”He said Sprint looked at Apple and its popularity, and “we saw no reason to bet against Apple.”
Ugh...
And you are supprised? They don't have to pay didly to get Windows Phone but the iPhone is obviously the best thing to come to both Verizon and Sprint (since the EVO) and in reality, it is money well spent at least for the next year or two until WP8 really begins to make a dent in the market. Until then, there is nothing negitive about the money spent to get the most popular smartphone on their network. The sheer number of people that were just waiting for it to happen so they could jump ship from AT&T alone probably was worth it.
After such a long time from release, it deemed to go to an end. I just am surprised why it took so long. Stupid sprint didn't go get anything new for WP7.

What other CDMA Designes were released in that time? Heck how many of them used WiMax 4G? That was the problem with Sprint bringing on any new phones since none of the current 1st and 2nd gen devices were really a high end device worth bringing over to their network. The one thing they could have done is swapped the Trophy and Arrive between Verizon and Sprint, but overall the differences between the two aren't huge.
With WP8 and the new selection of chipsets and such to choose from, I am sure Sprint will have another new handset as well as the Return of Nokia to them as well.

Probably not. Though it is more likely now that Sprint is getting LTE, I know that I, personally, am jumping to Verizon when my contract is up in March, or maybe sooner if I decide it's worth it to pay the ETF before then. All I'm really waiting for is the Verizon store 3 blocks away to get the Lumia 822. ATIV S, or HTC 8X on display for me to go play with/drool over.

I wish I could find the links, but Sprint just seems to have finished all support for WP7 period. I doubt we'll even see WP8's on Sprint. That might change due to the Softbank acquisition, but as for the current direction of Sprint, seems android and iPhone only now. Anyone who is diehard Sprint better just slap their hand's together and start praying that Softbank changes Sprint's overall direction for the better.
Besides, You can't Zune update an Arrive past 7720 anyway on Zune. It's been ages since Sprint has done anything with their Arrive. I doubt when WP7.8 hits, that the Arrive will even get the SYS update to that, regardless of what NuAngel seems to think XD.

I doubt it, too; anytime I go into the Sprint repair store, the reps laugh at me for my Arrive, and I'm not the one getting a phone repaired! It's always my sisters with their Androids...
But, whatever. I used to support Sprint a lot, even defending them when others bad mouthed them ("Ohh, you have Sprint? How's it feel to be one of about 17 customers?" "Yeah, well, how is it on just a 3G network?" [back when WiMax had just come out, before AT&T ad Verizon got LTE.]). Now? Not so much. Like I said, as soon as the test models Arrive (get it?) at the Verizon store, I'm gonna switch.

Which is why the development sections of this forum exist. I've been running 7.8 since around late August, early September.

Well, from what I hear, Zune will push the update directly, but then again, I don't hear everything, so YMMV.
