Since the G1 and now the mytouch both of which I flashed the Hero rom on, I just found my perfect business phone and this one could be a true Iphone killer and it has windows. I have not used a windows based phone since the dash and now the HD2 is making want to try it again. I live off outlook so that a plus but playing with the touchpro 2 I dont like some items, but like the Hero rich widgets, have you guys heard of anything?
Have you tried Androkidd 0.8, I installed it on my Pro2 yesterday and it seems good.

The developers have finally overcome the segfaults which previously prevented the Linux kernel from booting fully, meaning that Linux can boot fully, and Android is possible. However, the touch screen doesn't have any Linux drivers, meaning that until someone develops a touch screen driver from scratch, that Android (or any other Linux userland) is unusable without a USB keyboard/mouse plugged in .
The EVO 4G seems similar to the HD2, and it is reasonable to think that it may help in development of Android for the HD2, but it's actually quite the opposite. The hardware used in the HD2 is much different than that in the EVO. Besides the common appearance, the two devices are completely independent of one another, and the developers are mostly on their own. Just a small word of advice: don't ever buy a phone because of features that have yet to be developed, as there is absolutely no guarantee that Android/Linux will ever work fully on the HD2.
Leo is a great device, and it´s not outdated as it has the same or even more power than some newer devices.
WM is doing well on it because it´s fast processor
I agree withthe above poster. I think HD2 and WM have years left. Right now its the only phone I can do everything I want with, except HULU, which I firmly beleive will come. Heres what Android or iOS4 or WP7 will have to do out of the box for me to give up WM6.5
1. Play nice with my hava box for live TV.
2. Emulate PS1 game flawlessly
3. Play the PS1 games with a wireless PS3 controller.
4. Play any kind of video in existance thats under 2GB in file size with no frame dropping or quality loss.
5. Word, and Excel
6. a FTP program
7. Cut, copy, paste, and open with...
8. Streaming radio and play, OGG's, AAC, and other off brand codecs
These are my main concerns when I hear about WP7 coming. I fear we may loose all the killer software that has been build the last 5 years. Hopefully WP7 will have a compatability mode. LOL

Because we are the minority. those lovely features you speak of wont be present in most phone os going forward. Apple has shown that dumb down super simple phones are the way to go. btw I dont mean dumb down in the sense that they suck. What I mean is, we as a community are use to having free reign on what we do with our phones. The average user will do more harm than good with these features. With great power comes great responsiblity.
I like android! I havent seen a single thing that it cant do. Infact because of people like cyanogen its grown at record breaking speeds to be come a contender.
One of the best things about android is I have been able to install albeit modified versions of android on my g1 and my friends droid.
Now hes currently running froyo before motorola even has a chance to update it.

Come on in the waters fine! With the snapdragon wimo 6.5 really pops. Its equal to or greater then ios4 or android. Once you get cookiemonsters app up, everyone at your work will be jelous of your phone. From comparing my multiple wimo phones with friend iphones and droid phones I can easily say once my rom is selected and phone is tweaked its actually much more stable then the other phones.
I'm on the hunt for compatible bluetooth control pads for the samsung galaxy s. I used to have one for my old i900 and worked a treat (can't recall the name of the pad), but had heard wiimote and other bluetooth controllers will not work with new samsung widget devices and htc sense phones.
Does anyone know one which will work as touch screen gaming is a bit poo

On 2.2 firmwares bluetooth HID profile support is added for BT keyboards/mice, but sadly WiiMotes are still a no-go.
If your old one is a HID profile device it may well work on 2.2 firmwares.
Cheers, shall look into zeemotes. My old unit was the samsung i900 (windows mobile), and i regret selling with the pad as it looks like was compatible with gamepro. Still zeemotes seem pretty cheap so will definitely try these out.
Okay, remembered the one i had with my samsung omnia i900. It was the MSI BGP-100. This would be more ideal for me to have again as of the extra buttons (three seems a bit short on the zeemote), and originally cost me around £10 including delivery. I've noticed that since the time i had it this pad has become discontinued and i can only find a few sellers but they want £90 for it (seriously WTF! ).
So my second question is does anyone know wnywhere that still has stock of the MSI BPG-100 and selling at a reasonable price and will ship to UK or does anyone know of an equivalent that has more than three buttons?

The little Bluetooth keyboards work as game controllers with Froyo, if the game app can remap keys. I've used one with Gameboid. It's not as good as a dedicated gamepad but you get used to it.
@ DotMpeg - Yes that's the MSI pad. If you can find anywhere that sells them at a semi sensible cost and has stock please let me know. Dealextreme along all other sites i have found that still have them listed do not have stock...
@ TheBeano - Sadly not running froyo yet as the UK network providers have not released their versions quite yet (due anytime now), but when they do i'll certainly be looking into these if i still can't get hold of the old MSI pad. Either that or the temptation to debrand will grow

Looks like the RC-100 cannot be used as a phone gamepad. Got the below message direct from manufacturer;
"The RC-100 is not a Zeemote. The RC-100 is a remote control that works over the Zigbee wireless protocol (not Bluetooth) designed to work with our line of Bioloid Humanoid Robots.
It was not designed to work with cellular phones and therefore I believe it will not serve your purpose of using it with your phone or pad."

Cyanogenmod ROM 6.1, it will have a bluetooth implementation that works with WiiMotes etc.

@ NZtechfreak - Should have realised that CM was Cyanogen Mod Do You know if they are actually making this as a stable ROM as at present they have done nothing but experimental ones for the i9000.
Its not yet stable, they've made a lot of progress though.
Does anyone more familiar with DLNA requirements know if this will be exclusive to the LG phones for hardware reasons or will this same app be able to work on phones from, say, HTC? This sounds like it could potentially be a great feature with my Onkyo DLNA AVR. Could be a deciding factor for me in which phone I ultimately decide on.
As i understand it LG developed it together with Microsoft and is only available on LG phones. If it will show up on other phones later i don't know but we can sure hope so. Right now i would buy the LG just because of that feature.

I think so, unless another phone has the DLNA hardware. LG is great! If you have a LG tv, stereo, surround system you can control them all with any LG remote. Im willing to bet that if you have a LG tv you won't have to set up your phone or tv to use the app.

Awesome, that's what I was hoping. So all that is needed is wi-fi. Theoretically, this should be able to be ported from the LG to any wp7 device, correct? If that's the consensus, it will make my decision much easier.
It may/will be ported when/if WP7 is jailbroken. Apart from that, DLNA isn't something that belongs to LG and can't be done by someone else. When Microsoft provides access to socket APIs there may be third party solutions.
Dlna is using wifi it has nothing to do with any kind of hardware , and it havebeen ported to hd2 with Dhd android port

Your TV must support DLNA.
I knew DLNA wasn't proprietary to LG (my Onkyo receiver, Samsung blu-ray, and wmp11 all have it), I just don't really know how the internal phone stuff works like drivers and stuff so I wasn't sure if it would ever work even after the imminent jailbreak. HTC Surround, here I come! Thanks for selling me on it guys!

I don't know if there are going to bemany people who are willing to crack open their TPs to test this. I would also doubt that there are going to be any android drivers since that would require that the developers have a TP with this installed. Very unlikely.
Thanks for this fox!! I was always wanting to see about adding a radio card to the TP. I knew the difference between the cell version and regular version of the TP had to be a simple module connected either via ribbon, coaxial, or both. Some simple empty space ready for a radio card to be plugged into it. I guess I was partially right. :3
I really will consider doing this. Although I am loyal to T-Mobile USA and it doesn't seem to support this Going to check out some disassembly videos and see what I'm up against. But it would be nice to have a cell-capable TP.

Seems to be the same one used in epad, so I'm guess there are drivers for it; so I'm guessing it can be used on android, but for webos it'd need porting - maybe from the android version or the linux version (don't know what the dependencies are).

I just want to save someone from damaging their TouchPad doing this mod. The modem will not work on a WiFi model since their boards are different. The 4G model has the connection for the AT&T modem whereas the WiFi model doesn't have the connection present. I've learnt this through swapping parts out for servicing my TouchPad 4G on a mule TouchPad WiFi.
I am posting this thread seeking feedback and judging interest in such a project.
Most Android devices these days have USB OTG / host functionality as well as HDMI-out.
Motorola exploited this on the Atrix and Bionic with docks that are essentislly a powered USB hub and HDMI adapter or the webtop which 9s a dock with a battery, screen, keyboard and touchpad. Their setup allowed you to run a modded Ubuntu on the screen ajd had a window to access the normal phone interface.
Now with the progress of the Android platform, they have abandoned it mostly, as of 4+ the aforementioned HW only allows you to use android in tabet mode.
What I am proposing is a likely OpenSource project to develop:
- universal hw for all android devices
- custom jailed linux and xwm/interface adapted for touch/hdpi/small screens
- custom android x server allowing integration
- custom android x client/rsp (rdp) for android to allow viewing of phone interface on screen
The goal being a well designed version allowing a hybrid of linux apps and android apps in tablet mode seamlessly integrated.
Let me be clear that I am trying to judge interest and brainstorm, I am NOT asking about the feasibilty or technical requirements or burdens.
Eventually with enough interest, other OS apps could be integrated and virtualized.
I have 20+ years sw engineering, design and development experience and am willing to put in my efforts to seed this project if the interest is there.

I am actively developing this and a whole suite of tools to accompang it starting with a universal, configurable, network (bt/wifi/3G/RG) and hardware syncronizable audio driver. Follkwing that I will be working on a 2-way android/linux x-server/client system.
Each tool will be released as an individual piece and eventually will (hopefully) come together to build a system to enhance android and bridge the ever narrowing gap between android and a pc.
I really would be interested in some feedback especially regarding the hardware aspect.

I just saw your post; I owned 2 Motorola RAZR (a RAZR i for now) and I really miss the webtop! I used it a lot so I am very interesting by your project. It's a shame that Motorola let go this idea, I think it was something that can make Motorola outstanding from other brands.
I'm sure there is a lot of people interested by that kind of app.

I hope so, I have started slowly developing the low levels of the stack of tools required for this.
If you are interested in making this a reality, then I need support. Moral support, testing, food, hardware.. etc.. Mostly I need to know there's a demand and that people will use it and benefit from it.
Currently I require a few things for testing and development, if anyone wants to.help.
- USB OTG / Host adapter for microusb. x 2
- Powered USB hub.. The source in my city has one for $10, but do not sell the power adapter to.go with it.
and, would be beneficial:
- A droid Bionic HD dock or Webtop dock, unfortunately my phone was not sold in Canada and ship them to me for my friend in the states and I cannot get these here.
please spread the word if you are interested, rally support and it will get done.
The first thing I am developing for this is a universal low latency audio driver replacement for android / linux with extended.ipc/net routing capabilities. Partly because I am a musician and need such elsewhere is why I am starting with audio.. I also intend to get the audio plug on my moto dock working on nonstock

you have my support in whatever you need. ive been a webtop guy since day 1, wonderful technology but *WAY* ahead of it's time (and lets not even talk about how i spent $300 bucks on my first lapdock, and $50 on my second when they canned the webtop project lol. i will caution you that it doesn't seem like there is much demand anymore for the dual environment setup. i have quite a bit of market insight as to why this is, but at any rate, innovative development is never appreciated until it is actually developed, no?

aside from several years of commercial software testing experience, i have at my disposal for testing:
Motorola Atrix 4G (only moto phone unlocked kernel + webuntu mod)
Motorola Droid Bionic
Samsung Galaxy Nexus (uses MHL)
Motorola Xoom tablet (HDMI out)
- 1 bionic lapdock, 1 universal lapdock 100
- bionic HD dock
- MHL USB > HDMI adapter
- USB OTG cable

Unfortunately google basically stopped moto from doing this.. We can all run linux but using it on vnc is sloppy, android x server doesnt work proper yet.. And even webtop 3 isnt that bad of an idea..

Hey, every idea you've posted seems good. The only thing I see holding back is, well, you have no credentials to show what you can/have done. I'd love a webtop for my phone, and an external android ssd(rasberry pi?) sounds sweet!
Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, I personally would love to see these projects come to life and help out with the funding side of things(unless you've got some extra time to teach) I do have a passion for developing, it's just not a skill yet.
Tell/show me more of what you can give/make to these protects you have planned and I'll tell/show you what I can fund/help with.
Really cool idea. I'm interested and if you develop even a crude "example" I'm sure the community will hop on board too.

I have been using webtop3 with just an hdmi cable for a bit - and at the least something like that should be available to every device with hdmi/mhl (eg. dynamic dpi change, phone screen becomes touchpad and kb unless hw mouse/kb avail) but also with all Android devices being linux, there should be a better way to run linux apps than vnc or a half-finished barely functional x server (not damping on the devs).
I have 15-20 years experience in coding almost all languages on almost all platforms. Done a ton of webstuff, none of it's really online or available (NDA). I worked with AOL/nullsoft for a short bit for sc_trans and thus ran my own radio, IdealSound. Unfortunately the AOL BW dried up and I had to kill it, but I am reviving it. I don't have a lot to show now, but give me a few weeks...
Anyhow, I see a ton of potential in android, I like open source, and, I think it's terrible that google axed wt3 even. wt2, I understand why.. wt3 is just dynamic dpi on hdmi and a different launcher profile (and a touchpad).
There needs to be more, and, I use android enough to be willing to invest time into this. Unfortunately, I am not able to invest $.

A Motorola LapDock (Fits both of the Photons, but won't recognize the touchpad or keyboard)
Hisense Sero 7 Pro Tablet (mini HDMI)
The Q is the only one I use daily, so I can monkey around with the rest pretty recklessly. I know my way around adb & CWM / TWRP, but I'm no dev. Just been flashing custom ROMs since the early windows mobile days, so I'm not scared of much.
I'm currently trying to cobble together a software-based solution for myself with the LapDock, using a combination of methods used by other folks on other gear, so I might also have some links worth following for stuff that's been done already. Either way, good luck.
