Hi!
I wonder how you disconnect from activesync?
When I start activesync, a little icon for disconnecting the acitvesync will appear on tray bar.
However, as many UI like SPB, will cover the whole screen, and the tray bar will not be shown.
Therefore, I wonder if there are anyway to disconnect activesync saftely, without pressing that icon in the tray bar??
Once you remove your PDA from PC, it is automatically diconnected. Or you can use quick minu to disconnect. It is small program. You can find it here in this forum. Search it Or you use some free task manager. You can find it here also.
Look what I found using search

is it same as clicking on the small disconnect icon in tray bar?
pulling the plug or disableing bluetooth or however you sync
is perfectly safe when it's just connected and not in the middle of a sync
same thing with usbsticsk and pdas in storage mode
the safely remove part in windows is just so confused people
don't pull them out in the middle of a copy

Hello
is it ok to just pull the usb sync cable out my xda exec or do i need to first
do some sort of "safely remove hardware" as we do with other usb devices?
when the device is not in the middle of a sync it's safe to pull the plug
as is it with my usbkeyrings and sd readers
i thought with a normal usb stick, onw had to do a "safely remove hardware"
before puling the usb stick out
nope, you don't "have" to, all it really does is ensure that there is no activity occuring on the removal (this is what causes data loss)
oh ok, i will just pull the usb cable out then
thanks
I wondered that too.
Yeh, I suppose it's ok to disconnect, as long as there's no write-behind cache enabled.
the 'safe to disconnect' thing was mainly used previously where windows have a feature of caching the write files on pc (rather than the usb drive) for fast writing. however, as far as I know, these days, they don't do caching any more and relatively, as long as the usb device light is not blinking (in the case of activesync, the icon it not 'moving'), you can just disconnect it.
thanks for the reply
that is how windows worked in the past, is that windows xp too?
XP does have cached writing, but as has been said - aslong as the sync has finished (or in the case of USB stick, the light is off/ you have left a few seconds after windows says its finished) then you can just pull it.
i did not quite understand
how does it differ from how windows did usb transfers before?
One word of warning:- Tonight I quickly needed to copy a file to my device, so I plugged it in, copied the file, then pulled out the cable as soon as the file had copied and ActiveSync had finished syncing.
Straight after that I ended up with a corrupt memory card.
I guess I should have waited a few more seconds to ensure all access had stopped :?: :?
Using the "safely remove hardware" is also a means of shutting off power to the device without causing spike. Remember, there's about +/-5v going to the device.

Although this option isn't available for ActiveSync connections, is it?
so we wait for a few minutes before pulling the plug

Well, from my experience yesterday I'd say at least a few seconds. The strange thing is that I was copying a file to the device itself, not the SD card, but the SD card ended up corrupting. But disconnecting the USB was the last thing that happened before it went corrupt, so I'm guessing that that's the cause.
There is a disconnect option in ActiveSync on the device. God knows why they didn't put one on the PC app too.
how do you do the disconnect in ActiveSync on the XDA?

so basically if it says connected synchronised, it is ok to pull the usb cable out, correct?
Hi.
I'm using the TP for quite some time now without too much hassle, but one thing annoys me.
For a few days the selection menu is gone when you connect your TP to USB. Normally it pops up a screen to select ActiveSync, FlashDrive or Internet Sharing mode.
Now, it just uses the last selection and I've never switched on the "Don't ask me again" button.
I've found the USB to PC settings which do about the same, but even if I switch on "Ask about connection type when I connect" it just doesn't. And then, I like the TouchFLO popup better.
Anyone a suggestion on how to get the selection screen back?
Thanks a bunch!
If you go to parameters, connexion, Usb parameters, you need to activate :
- Activesync (synchronise with Outlook)
- Activate the functionnality advanced netwerk
- Ask the type of connexion when connected
Same here.
im too afraid to tick the dont ask again box insase i cant find it again. it does sometimes not appear though
Perhaps the USB cable you use is not optimal.
Do you try also with the original one??
As strange as the menu disappeared, it was there again yesterday all of a sudden.
It appears "fixed" but I must agree, it doesn't show every time... Definately...
I just flashed the OTP v7.6 Biggy with phonecanvas on my Wing and LOVE IT. However I cannot use Activesync to get my thousands of contacts in the phone plus my calendar, notes, etc. Any solution?
Please delete this thread, he activesync all of a sudden decided to recognize my phone! The problem was the fact that I was using a standard USB cable to sync. Although the standard USB cable works for ROM flashing etc, it apparently doesnt work for syncing. Now I am syncing with bluetooh and its working fine.
SORRY MODS! PLEASE DELETE THIS THREAD!
Ok, last night the bluetooh connection worked and I synced. Today its not working, again. I tried two different cables but nothing works.

I did that and I get an error code on the phone's active sync now: Support code: 0x80072EE2
I read here that its because of the USB connection so I cleared "Enable advanced..."
Reset the phone, no help.
I am using Vista Ultimate + Windows Mobile Device Center
Trying again with Bluetooth, used to connect in about 3-5 seconds with T-Mobile ROM, now its stuck in Connecting... over 1 minute now.... and now its says not connected.
Rebooting again.... Windows Mobile Device Center is connected. Attempting to sync using the phone SYNC button (the button on PC is kind of frozen), says syncing.... YIPPEE, I guess its hit and miss.... ok now, last synced at 5:07... cool..
Still dont know what the issue is but anyhow it works off and on.
I have a strange problem with a HTC Touch PRO. Here is my problem:
- I insert the USB cable and the phone asks if I want to use mass storage or activesync
-the phone shows a connection on the screen
-The PC is not sensing anything, the activesync is not connected.
I think this problem appeared after I used a wrong usb cable...
Anyone knows anything what to try? or this is a hardware problem?
Did you select ACTIVESYNC?
There are 2 modes this phone can do..
1) Standard ActiveSYNC or
2) AS a MASS STORAGE DEVICE -like a flash drive...
You have to select ActiveSYNC to actually SYNC software/calendar, else it will show up as just another drive to drag/drop files..
Yes i did it in every way and the computer is not sensing the connection with the phone.
Anyone know what kinf of hardware is responsible for the connection with the pc?

The problem is likely with your operating system on your pc.
You can try things like, un-installing the HTC usb driver in device manager.
Check your firewall.
- allow activesync for trusted
- I know for ZoneAlarm you have to go to the adapters section and set the ipaddress (a new one is created when your phone is hooked up via USB) to be trusted.
If that doesn't fix issue perhaps its a corrupt install of ActiveSync. Try uninstalling and reinstalling.

I've had this happen to me. I've got so many USB to mini-USB cables and they are not all alike.
Sometimes, it would work and sometimes activesync would not recognize it.
CHANGE YOUR CABLE to another. Hopefully, you've labeled the original cable that came with the phone..
(also, look at the mini cable where it plugs into your phone. Make sure there are no loose pins and/or verify that the 'plug' is level.
Try a different USB port
Try unchecking "use advanced network configuration" in Async settings on the phone. Some computers (for various reasons) have a hard time communicating with the phone when it's configured as a network device - unchecking this will often allow Async to find and connect to the phone, at the expense of some other functionality.
coincendentally i am having the same exact issue, it started last night.
i have tried 3 different cords, on all 3 usb ports on my computer. same thing the phone asks what kind of connection i want whether i select disk drive ofr active sync noting happens. whats weird is that the phone is charging when its connected however the computer is not seeing it at all.
i have tried all the recommendations in this thread but nothing is working. anymore help would be greatly apprciated!
Me too I have tryed everything but none is working.
I think that this a hardware problem, and the problem started to happen after i used a non HTC cable, bad quality. I think some kind of controller is dead. So i started to live with that
When I connteced to the PC via USB, my TP also asked me how to connect (AS or as disc). But suddenly it doesn't ask anymore. I had to deactivate "advanced network configuration" to conntect to AS.
The checkbox "ask each time USB connects" is activated.
What can I do that the phone asks again when I connect it?
Thx.
I have the same thing going on... suddenly a few days ago my fuze only charges when I plug it in the desktop with a usb cable... I re-flashed and it worked about halfway through a sync and then started again... I've tried different cables... uninstalled all of the usb drivers, and reinstalled then updated them... Disconnected the power supply... tried every setting on my phone, and in windows.... I've even uninstalled the last batch of windows updates that came out last week... nothing seems to work...
really simple solution.
decheck advanced network config. plug in cable wait till you see usb connected. a small box. after that choose for example activesync
internet share
This happened to me last night and I figured out that after you toggle your internet sharing you can sync up again. Idk why it works out like that but it worked for me.
This sound reasonable, because the last thing I did before was selecting the "internet sharing" option in the menu when you connect to USB.
But what do you mean with "toggle your internet sharing"? Can you please describe it.
Thx.
try this
okay - first see if you're getting an active connection with your pc , not from the network connections window, but by running mymobiler. I was getting a connection through mymobiler, but active sync wasn't recognizing the device. If mymobiler works, Call your phone. it will drop your connection with mymobiler when you answer the call. then hang up the phone call. (all the while leaving your cable plugged into your phone. When the call has been disconnected your activesync will recognize the connection and sync up again. I don't know why this works, but I've been able to duplicate the results several times.
Same htc ****+ wm. Bought an iphone 3g. Everything must be tuned in windows mobile! It doesn't work how it should!
None of this seems to be working... I've even flashed new roms and it stops working halfway through the sync... it doesn't even appear as though windows recognizes the device... it makes no noise or pop-up when I connect it...
Still charges though... Don't know what is going on...
Reinstall Mobile Device Manager!

I've experienced this issue multiple times, as I use my TP to sync with many stations. The solution is way more simple than you think and it has nothing to do with cables!.
You probably use Win Vista so all you need is to uninstall "Windows Mobile Device Center", restart the PC and install a fresh copy from MS site.

If you're on XP, do the same with the Active sync solution for XP.
Good luck!
yeah this happens to me every now and then. the advanced network configuration option really helps, but sometimes i just need to plugin/unplug the usb cable from teh phone/cable or cable/computer a couple more timesbefore it picks it up...
goodluck!
I am looking for a tweak\tool\registry hack (if possible) to have a Charge Only Mode for Windows Mobile 6.5 if at all it is possible. Most of the times, I am at office using my HD2 (Dual boot with 6.5 and DarkStone Android ) connected to the Laptop and it would be great if I can just connect it to my laptop without choosing either of the three options
1. ActiveSync
2. USB Storage Mode
3. Internet Sharing
P.S : I did lot of search for this option but was unable to find it and hence started this thread...but I will be more than happy if anyone can redirect me to an existing thread if any, for the same issue.
When your phone is charging off the laptop do you actually use any apps on it?
I'm like you in that I spend 2 days a week with my phone charging from the laptop, but I never use it for anything other than phone calls, so selecting disk drive does the job for me.
Any apps I'd need, I'd make sure were installed on the device.

Better use the active sync or the mass storage mode..As it is you wont be needing to install apps on your memory card thanks to the massive storage of the HD2 compared to the older WM devices...This shouldn't be a problem IMHO...
Cheers.
Ive got a really easy fix for this, just use a different cable, you can get cables or adaptors that will charge only and wont sync. When you want to sync just change the cable or take off the adaptor.
btw... such an adaptor is only £2.50 from amazon for my phone

This doesn't stop the action as such, but when you connect your phone to PC, with the 3 options you listed, there should be a a check box at the bottom "Don't ask me again", so whatever you choose will automatically happen next time (choosing USB storage will therefore not ativate ActiveSync/Device Centre on your PC. This can also be found under Settings->Other (miscellaneous settings)->USB to PC (see attachment).
Or, just use a wall socket charger?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies ! The reason I asked this question is because I do not have a Data Plan on Phone. I only use Wifi at home and office and Active Sync kills it. Data storage mode won't let me use the Storage which I kinda need (Don't ask me why? ) and ofcourse Internet sharing Mode just sends the phone into a crazy 'Connecting 3G Network'...loop.
Anyways, I think using the Charge Only Cable should do the trick for now..But I still feel that this mode will be helpful for few rares like me...Love tis mode in Android.

ActiveSync does not kill my Wifi - make sure the 'Allow wireless connections on device...' is checked under File->Connections Settings. Also ActiveSync should allow your phone to use your PC's internet connection (pass through) anyway.
The other thing to try is to delete the mobile device from within ActiveSsync as if you've never synced it before and when you next connect it it will ask you to set up a relationship but click cancel and - viola - should now just charge.

No "Allow Wireless Connection on Device" option. I am using Windows 7.. Not sure if it is present in WMDC.
ActiveSync Passthrough does not work..I am on a encrypted network with authentication based Proxies..whole bunch of them.....
I do not want to kill the ActiveSync relationship since it syncs everything with my PC.
I think I am bothering a lot over this stupid requirement.. so I will just close this thread (If I can) but if I find anything I will post it here, for someone else who might be in similar situation.
Thanks anyways...XDA rocks !!!
