Push GMAIL email - does it work for you? - Touch Pro, Fuze General

If you haven't seen it:
http://www.google.com/mobile/products/sync.html#p=default
I tried it by sending a test email to my email address but the email didn't get 'pushed'.
Edit: It seems to be working now!

Doesn't seem to be working for me either.

It seems others are having trouble too:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/label?lid=640b47d07dc59946&hl=en

not working here either.

I got it working, its exrteamly spotty right now. The google servers are probably going crazy right now.

not workign for me...gonna try again in a couple weeks, when hopefully all the hoopla has died down a bit

Interesting. I set it up this morning and it's been working perfectly all day. Emails are coming in before they show up on Gmail's web application.

Working for me - only problem I've got is how to get the outlook mail account to appear on the email tab of touchflo 3d. Any ideas?

I set mine up yesterday and it was pretty crappy, but today it's working great. Looks like they fixed whatever was broken.

Yeah, working great for me today.

Works great for me, only syncing email with m.google.com, though. Everything else (contacts, calendar, notes, & files) still sync with Outlook on my desktop.
Push seems to be nearly instant - definitely just as fast as the browser based inbox on my desktop...

yes it's working today for me too!
Email was pushed right away!

I still can't get it it show more than 10 of my most recent messages in my inbox. I have it set to push all my mail, but it won't push it all. I do get new messages fine though. Is there a setting I'm missing? Am I supposed to check something else? Pleas help, thank you.

um is your gmail account set to IMAP?
On your phone, you can go into your outlook options and set it to download all emails in the past month.

No its not set up to IMAP, and I've already set it to download all my email, but it still doesn't push it all.

No push here either.

I'm having the same problem, I've got it set to download my inbox and starred going back forever (all messages rather than timeframe). There're only about 20 messages total, but it only downloads 3 in starred. (inbox is empty right now) In imap you can do tools>manage folders>folder settings and change it from there, but in activesync it seems the time frame setting is account-wide (huge bummer) or only adjustable for the inbox, and everything else is 3 days (also huge bummer).
Obviously I want all my starred messages, drafts and inbox items, but do I really want the full history of my sent items folder? Why can these not be set seperately, is this a limitation of activesync or google? Right now, best it seems to do is last three days of messages, regardless of settings.
I'm gonna go check out google's forums/help pages/whatever.

its working
I already had my contact and calendar sync set so all i had to do is tick the email in sync options and it worked great! no more IMAP

not sure if you know this or not, but in activesync settings you can choose how far back you want to download as well as which folders to download/sync. it's not in the messaging options, but in activesync.
ALSO, anyone noticing higher battery drain versus using another client ie SEVEN for push email? My battery usually lasts a little more than a full day, but it died in 14 or so hours today. I set up gmail to sync mail and calendar.

What is your opinion; I currently pay for Yahoo premium and have only POP. Do you think gmail is worth the trouble of converting email addresses for the free bonuses gmail has?

unable to read gmail fwd emails

i have gmail imap set up so that the phone grabs new emails every hour. So far it's working great, but I'm having trouble viewing emails that are forwarded to this gmail account from my other email accounts (I have them forwarded to gmail so I don't have to run around everywhere fetching them). Does anyone know what the problem is? This is getting rather frustrating, as I'd have to check m.gmail.com on opera instead in order to view those fwd mails. help would be much appreciated.
Not sure why it wouldn't work for you. I don't seem to have that problem. Do you use pop to that gmail box at all? I know I had to set the POP settings in gmail to "When messages are accessed with POP Keep GMail's copy in the Inbox."
I don't see anything else that would keep something from downloading to your phone.

underperforming email application on Evo

Coming from BlackBerry, I have gotten worried several times already with my new Evo.
In my former Blackberry, also with Sprint, you sent me an email and before three seconds (specially on my Hotmail account) I would feel my Blackberry vibrating already. It was blazing amazing.
On my Evo, I have my email set to sync every 5 minutes, which is the max allowed by the settings. It's set for 5 minutes peak and not peak, and the 7 days of the week.
Last night at 11:30pm I received an email sent at 7pm. The time stamp on the email was 7pm, the email was received at 11:30pm. I saw it because I manually synchronized, otherwise..... This would have never happened with the BlackBerry (who own their own email servers, which have no equal, now I see).
4 hours 30 minutes is not acceptable. This is the worst example, but not the only one. Some of them took 2 hours, some 10 minutes, and about 75% are on time.
The sync is not working every 5 minutes as it should. It's like it just dies out. I have a strong 3G signal, so signal is not the issue.
My phone is still virgin (stock).
Exactly the same is going on with the Weather widget, it wasn't sync-ing, but now the sync settings grayed out on me. I can't even change the settings. The weather application works for me only when I manually sync, yesterday morning it was raining and there was a huge shining sun on my screen, so it's not accu---rate. This noon I still had a full moon on my screen.
I wonder what's going on.
K9 mail brah
Thanks. Installing k9Mail now....

no, but I'll try... thanks!
Any change you use a gmail account? The gmail app sends a notification as soon as the e-mail is received, just like the blackberry. If not, perhaps you should forward your e-mails (from hotmail) to a gmail account and bypass the 5 minute syncing issue.
Also, if you're using a task killer, be sure you have your e-mails apps listed as "ignore" otherwise you might kill the syncing and automatic updating.
To summarize:
- If you use Gmail use the Gmail app.
- If you use Exchange use the Exchange option in the Email app.
- If you use IMAP use K9 Mail.
All of the above options will give you push email that is pretty much instant.

email app in andorid has to be refined more, especially push and sync.
I do get into some issues at times, but with froyo , hopefully its going to be solved.
( so far the best sync option for email for me has been my jaibrokeb iphone . no flames please. i am not an apple fanboy and i have never used blackberry )

Hi, thanks. Yes, I have a gmail account but that''s the one I just created for the market application. I have had that Hotmail account for about 10 years or more... That one worked perfectly with BBerry. I installed K-9 Mail, which looks great but keeps logging error messages "server allows to log in only once every 15 minutes." I configured this to sync every minute, so I get 15 error messages before it works (syncs). At least the HTC stock mail doesn't have that problem.
I may need to switch to gmail..at least some of the email traffic. I have a task killer but it doesn't kill the mail application or any other system appl. Just flickr, Facebook, Amazon MP3...

Thanks. With Exchange you guys mean an enterprise MS Exchange server, correct? which I don't have access to.
That's what I miss the most of my BlackBerry, the speed to get emails. I made tests with iPhones, Androids, and even Blackberry's on ATT and this Sprint BlackBerry was the best. Not even 3 seconds most of the time, using Hotmail.
Hotmail has recently released the exchange settings. U should try that
It keeps happening with this HTC stock email application. I have 3 different sorts of email accounts setup on it, and it seems that only the one on the foreground works, the other 2 in the background are asleep. If I get an email in one of those sleeping mailboxes, I don't even get a notification, led, nor sound, or anything. I just received an email from 7AM at this time, 1123AM, and just because I checked because I was curious, otherwise.... That prompted me to write this. Just out of frustration. One of those email accounts in the background is a Google account, and it didn't work. I will have to split them into different email applications according to the type of account, as suggested above. I have a strong 3G signal. It has to be something in the implementation. The task killer just kills those flickr, Amazon, Facebook, that's about it. It doesn't kill any system files. Not even google talk.
I'll keep investigating.
Update
In case somebody has the same problem, I am tracking down what's going on here.
Definitely, the problem is caused by one process the Task Killer....is killing...
I'm very surprised. The tasks that are being killed are mostly HTC programs that apparently shouldn't affect the performance of MAIL and WEATHER, but it does. Probably, this is also affecting the other issue I have, the setting of location services being permanently turned off.
Now, which application is it, that is obviously being used by MAIL and WEATHER?
Could it be FOOTPRINTS? Could it be HTC Facebook? Could it be AMAZON MUSIC STORE? Could it be SPRINT NAVIGATION? Or Qik?
Basically, those are the processes being killed.
The way I found out was killing the killer, and restarting all these applications. All of a sudden MAIL and WEATHER started working as expected. Mail refreshes every 5 minutes.
Maybe by killing one of those "dummy" programs above, also kills a thread of hidden processes being used by Weather and Mail.
Interesting.
(maybe somebody knows about this already here or in another forum).

Exchange questions

I am new to Android. Have been a longtime WindowsMobile user. The Captivate has a menu to synchronize with exchange including mail, contacts and calenders. I got mail to work, but contacts and calender do not synch. I would assume it is officially supported since it is in the menu. Has anybody else got it to work, meaning can you pull contacts and calender from your exchange account down to your phone?
Yes, mine works fine. Is auto synch off under menu/synch?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Mine is working fine too. I went in and disabled the Contact synchronization and it looked like everything (mail, calendar, contacts) is all enabled by default. I think I remember seeing the settings when I initially set it up too. Go into your calendar and then into the settings and make sure it is displaying your exchange calendar. Same thing with the contacts.
Mine works great. In fact a little tooooo good. I have it syncing with my Google contacts and my exchange contacts. . .
One note. The client on the Captivate is not a full exchange client. That's apparently an Android V2.2 feature. That means there are some features that worked on my BB and my Nokia E72 that don't work on the Captivate. The most notable, and irratating is any http link embedded into an appointment note is treated as straight text. So if you have an airlines check in appointment, or link to a map - you can't just click on it and have a browser take you to the link. . . .or at least I haven't figure out how to make that work yet.
ok. The whole Activesync exchange seems very screwy on Android. I deleted exchange account and re-added it. Now, I can see and synch all my contacts, but I only get some of my calender items. I downloaded TouchDown, and via Touchdown I can sync my email but I do not see contacts or calender. I am pretty techsavvy, so this just baffles me.
Is it possible to look up a name against the GAL/company address book with the stock android client when composing an email message?
I have been able to "Lookup" emails through the GAL. Simply type a name in the To Field, hit search. You are taken to a new screen where you can do a lookup. One note though. I have not seen FULL integration with the GAL. For instance, our company has Email, Direct Dial, Fax, Cell, Address all entered in the AD. This makes it easy to look up phone numbers. Cant seem to get that to work in the phone search
having issues sending appointments from phone
I'm using Exchange and stock email client. I've tried to send meetings to people in my GAL, but they never receive the invite. Anyone else having the issue?\
This is a known issue with the captivate. Hopefully there is a fix on the way. It was supposed to work seemlessly out of the box, but there are some problems.

[Q] Sync email driving me nuts - pse help

When my 8010 note downloads email using the standard email app it syncs with every mail left on the email servers. Despite searching I cannot find a way to have it download only new mail since last connection.
Currently I have 5 email accounts and all sync up to two weeks worth of mail each time I connect
Is there any way to set this to new mail only? I need to leave the mail on the servers as I am away fairly often and might miss some if I clear it earlier than two weeks.
Also weird is that the trash empties OK but shows 23 on the folder!
What settings have you used pop or imap and what email service are you using
There is option in options which tell how back do you sync and also to certain extent there is a setting on your server tell what to sync
Thanks for reply.
I'm using POP for all accounts.
The only thing I have found is Email Sync mail On/Off.
Where are the Options you refer to?
I'm using JB UK version.
ok I cannot pin point the exact settings as I am using active sync but I used it earlier just go to the settings there is in the accounts the duration you want to sync also if you are using gmail please change settings in gmail also.
I really had loads of issues with syncing with pop account on stock email app and hence I configured activesync which works same like gmail app
Thanks, but I don't think there are any additional settings in normal mail, hopefully someone will correct me

Look on the mail sever side for options to download only new messages. It's really the mail server software that keeps track of what you've downloaded. I would look for settings options labeled pop mail settings or something along those lines.
Don't think that would work, because the server would stop other machines from downloading that were not up to date. AFAIK this is normally set on each email client.
Anbody find a solution for this?
Just can't believe there is no way to set the sync to download only once.
Are there any other mail apps that have intelligent sync settings?
Gettings mail that I downloaded two weeks ago repeated every day on the note 10.1 just sucks!

try Aqua Mail. i found some nice features in it.
free version gives you up to two accounts and enforces a signature.
OK, I have 5 accounts on my Note so free one is not usable
Secondly can you confirm that it solve the sync problem I am trying to fix?

Emails won't sync all emails.

So I used the stock email to do all my business emails, and it was fine. Not great but worked well enough. Recently it started to only sync about 1 week back, and wouldn't load any more than that. So I switched it over to Gmail to see if it would sync all the emails. It didn't help. I can still read all my emails on my computer but for some reason all the emails won't appear on my phone. My Gmail account still syncs all its emails to my phone, but my business (which isn't gmail) won't. Any help would be great. Thanks.

I found a solution for this, i was looking for this myself.
Switch back to your stock email app which is located in Samsung folder.
Add your email (mine is hotmail) after you done that, you will be redirected to your inbox, in the right corner there is a button called "more" then "settings" then you will see your email account name, press that. now look at the bottom, you will find "Period for synchronization of e-mail" and then press "all".
Well I gave that a shot, and while it loads emails, it will only load to March 10, which may mean I did something back on that day to not let it sync anything further past that day. Could it be on the email hosting side perhaps?
OK, for anyone who might take a gander at this in the future, I found out what was wrong. I had checked off the box that says delete from server after 14 days, in outlook on my computer. Kind of a bozo mover, but hopefully it might save someone in the future.
