New Response From [ Philip (North America Support (Tech)) ]
Hello oneders65,
I understand how important it is to be able to best utilize your device. The FM radio being disabled is not a choice that was made by HTC; each carrier makes their own specifications for their devices. In this case, Verizon requested that the FM radio not be available on their version of the Touch Pro2. It is possible that they have their own radio software; it is possible that it is something they will make available in a future update. However, there is unfortunately nothing that HTC Technical Support can do to unlock this feature, as we cannot go against the wishes of the carrier who purchased the device from us. For more information and possible ways around this, you may wish to visit our user forum at www.htcwiki.com.
If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us again. You can find additional support at our user forum www.htcwiki.com. There is also a customer satisfaction survey for you to take if you are interested.

Message Body: Why is the FM Radio disabled on the Touch Pro 2? Locking out features gives us a reason to go to the other networks. I'm up for renewal but am going to hold off. If the other carriers offer the same phone without functions disabled why not go to the competition???????
Dear oneders65,
My name is Harlan, I will be more than happy to assist you with your inquiry about FM Radio.
I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the fact that FM Radio can not be accessed on the Touch Pro 2. Decisions on what applications and functions will be available on our phones are made by our Marketing Department, and can not be overridden. There are no current plans to offer FM Radio on this device in the future.
Although the feature you would like is not available on the Touch Pro 2 at this time, I invite you to view our current phone selection as a possible alternative. To view available equipment, please click on the following link, which will direct you to the "Products" page of our website:

i thought there just wasnt enough room for 3 radios? i.e. u either get a gsm/fm radio tp2 or one with cdma/gsm radios.

The FM radio is in the Verizon TP2 I thought? Just needs the correct software/patch to use...unlike the TP1.

I think it's just speculation at this point.

in the touch pro the FM radio was part of the bluetooth chip. If the phone had bluetooth it had an FM radio. I'm guessing it's the same way in the pro2. If so, not having enough room is irrelevant. We won't know till we get a teardown. I haven't been able to find one online of any pro2. Anyone know of one?

I am running a VZ tp2 with the radio hack and it works well.

A person with one post has the radio hack... I think not!

Probably more speculation, but my Sprint corporate account rep says they were told the radios are disabled because they want people to spend money on the Sprint Music Store.

I'm just happy that the M key is in the right place. I had a TP1 where the N and M key is separated by the "up arrow" for about a week and that absolutely drove me nuts!

Thanks. Okay, from what I've seen there are much smarter people working on this than me. I'm not going to be able to solve it, but I can keep up better than most. From what it says the chipset for the Bluetooth is the BCM4325. Here's a link to the description of it.
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM4325
So there is our confirmation that our TP2's have an FM reciever. We just have to figure out what Sprint did and how to use it. I'm guessing it probably won't be more than another few weeks before someone has it working.

Well I don't know whether to be happy or said :S and i hope the X1 wont outperform it.
I can only assume, AT&T will need to have their own "uniquely named" device and not the vanilla Touch Pro the rest of the world will enjoy. This in itself will add 6 months to any official release date of the Raphael in North America. I hope I'm wrong.
I will snoop around on my side and report anything to this thread with any positive news.
Lol, I would say they're that bad , however i can imagine them releasing it sometimes in Q4 (October-ish?) or early Q1 of next year.
I thought CDMA version is coming out first for Verizon. or was it for Sprint... I read it somewhere in Engadget or BGR.
this will be called tilt II for at&t. this is a rumor i heard from a friend from at&t wireless side.
Why does the US seem to get this stuff last? I blame it on the carrier cartel that refuses to adopt the mobile phone industry models the rest of the world has.
If the only experience with HTC i had was my wizard, I'd be all over the Raphael. I paid 588USD for the tilt (off-contract) and get the shaft from them. Now, I'm up for a phone upgrade, and I'd really, really like to get my hands on this device, but I don't know if I trust them anymore.
Still LOOKS kickass, though.

Isn't the Raphael/ Touch Pro missing the GSM 850 freq? I thought AT&T uses GSM 850/1900.
Seems like it's made to be a T-mo device. (GSM 900/1800)

That hos nothing to do with it. Verizon, Tmobile, and all the US carriers can pick up the phone. Whether another carrier decides to pick it up or not doesn't mean that ATT wont.

By your analysis that means the T-Mobile in the USA would have the MDA Vario III which they don't.

I would be VERY surprised if the Raph couldnt be sorted out like this, remember the Hermes didnt have necessary bands for telstra in AU which was eventually sorted with a hack to allow the necessary frequency to be used.
Details details people, if AT&T were going to use it i imagine the bands situation would be trivial, im sure they are going to carry it.

You and I can hope but I'm 98% sure you're right. Trends point to AT&T releasing this sometime next year, as to not disturb the X1 and without the front facing cam. Right now it seems like Sprint is going to get this first as they're getting the Diamond sometime in September.
OK well lets just say in a matter of days we shall see if AT&T WILL be carrying the Raphael..............or not.

3G PDA phone for Tmobile USA

Hi,
I am on Tmobile USA currently and waiting for it to launch 3G in my city. Reports suggest that it will do so on Oct 1. Do you have any information about what kind of PDA phones with 3G support will it launch?
Alternatively, what kind of PDA phones out there will be able to utilize 3G on Tmobile in USA? I am currently looking at buying Touch Diamond, but don't think that it will be able to use 3G on Tmobile USA.
thanks for your input.
here's a prior thread on the same question...maybe some info there:

thanks for the link, however that thread is old and doesn't have any information about what PDA phones can be used! thanks anyways
yeah, it's hard to get a straight answer from t-mobile! I just called the store and they said 3G is aproved for my area (Las Vegas)...but they are waiting on the new devices for it? They said one would be the google android, some blackberys, bla bla... They are not going to get many customers with that 3g bandwidth, since all current ppc's will not work.

DMB

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has tried to get DMB broadcasts on their Ploaris? Are there any special application to install, or is the Polaris not able to receive DMB at all?
Personally i would go with that it is not possible at all. As i dont even know of a phone in the UK that is able to do it. The only place that has it is either china or japan that it is possible to do it with a certain type of DVB broadcast.
If you want TV on your phone though try this app as it may do some of what you want
They've started up here in Norway with free broadcasts of 6 nation wide channels, so I'd like to get it on my HTC and not having to buy a brand new expensive one..
Bump.
Anyone?
just out of interest what HTC does this work with, maybe then there could be a way to get it to work on the polaris (not that i would be able to)
No idea ;-)
That's why I posted this question so that anyone whos HTC works could tell us...
Sent a question to HTC support and this is he answer:
"Thanks for your email. Currently NONE of our handsets support the reception of T-DMB braodcasts. Therefore if you are wishing to watch these braodcasts on a mobile handset, it would need to be of another brand. I am not aware of any plans to introduce a handset with this function at any point in the forseeable future. We here at tech support are not given details of upcioming devices very often, so there may be a device that i am not aware of. sorry i could not give you more positive information. Best regards, HTC Europe Support"
An the follow-up question on were the issue is I got this:
"Its a hardware issue i am afraid. T-DMB needs specific hardware to recieve the signal, just as you can not recieve digital terrestrial on an old analogue tv without a new hardware box to recieve it, the handset must have T-DMB hardware inside to be able to recieve and decode the signal. Best regards, HTC Europe Support"
So it seems like I'm not going to watch tv on my Polaris 'as-is'..

No Tomtom, no CoPilot for WP7?

The major players in the mobile navigation market don't work on a port of their famous gps applications for WP7.

That's because WP7 isn't currently capable of that type of nav. It requires APIs that MS hasn't released yet. But when the updates start coming, maybe those will happen.

Wrong. Navigon has an app out there already using no internal APIs (apart from the one giving access to IMEI/IMSI numbers).

API's should be available long time ago because Navigon made a carrier-restricted MobileNavigator app, Telmap made a carrier-restricted app and there's the freely available beta a-to-b app in the marketplace.
Unfortunately Navigon is restricted to T-Mobile and only offes a germany (dach) map and the telmap and a-to-b app are online apps. Could get quite expensive, if you're not in your carrier's net (roaming).
So you guys are saying WP7 can now do turn by turn voice guided nav?

It's always been able to - just not thru Bing maps [yet]. All the APIs necessary are available to developers (i.e. Location API).
I've been using Navigon since launch pretty much and while the app still leaves a bit to the imagination it does indeed work as expected. Also very quick in getting a lock and seems to track my location very precise.

There is Telenav which is available for $10 a month for voice nav which has been available for a while now. Don't think it's worth the $10 but wireless employees get the service for free.
That's good to know. I was lead to believe the system didn't yet have this ability. Are these apps currently available and as good as their counterparts?
Just did a market search for Navigon and came up unfound.
Jesus frikking Christ! The market is so sluggish! It is such a pain in the rear trying to browse the damn thing. Scrolling is painful and loading takes forever.

Navigon uses the same maps as the iPhone version so theoretically there should be no differences between the versions.
Unfortunately, you will only find Navigon in the marketplace if you're using a t-mobile germany/austria sim card or t-mobile germany/austria branded device. Navigon said they're working on a carrier independent version but they did not mention a specific release date.

I couldn't find it either.
Navigon is exclusive to TMODE, Telenav is exclusive to TMOUS and AT&T Navigator is exclusive to, wait for it, AT&T
Navigon is the best one though as it's "offline" navigation and there are no monthly fees.
I spoke to Navigon not long ago and I believe their exclusivity deal runs out around mid-summer which means we should find the app available for everyone in the marketplace. They have recently updated their existing app from v1.4 to 2.1 which is more in-line with competing platforms in terms of functionality also.

Do you not have a TMOUS branded device? Either because you purchased off-contract or flashed a generic ROM? If so, you'll have to side-load. If you do have a branded phone you should be able to click this link from your phones browser however.

My HD7 is a T-Mobile branded device and was bought from T-Mobile. But I paid for it outright rather than sign a contract for service. It isn't one of those international phones that can be used on any GSM network. It can only be used with T-Mobile...for 3G data, that is. It is sim-unlocked, though.
Is it possible that the sim card needs to be inserted for it to access T-Mobile apps?

That sounds plausible. Stick your (or any) TMOUS SIM in there and it should give you access to it. Be aware though that the app itself may also be carrier dependant which means you can't run the app without a correct SIM inserted.

That is the case. I powered down my HD2, which runs an outstanding Energy WinMo ROM...love using that baby...and pulled the sim to put in my HD7. Once booted, I typed in T-Mobile Telenav and was rewarded with the app.
Eh...I now remember why I never used it before...even on my HD2. It costs $10 per month. Would rather spend $30 to $50 for CoPilot or Navigon or Tom Tom or some other downloaded nav and not face a monthly fee. Not having a steady income kind of forbids the extra cost...even though my cellphone bills are paid by my relative. I choose not to take advantage of them.

Is Anyone Ordering (or Pre-ordering) a U.S. Ver. XZ Premium???

I'm curious to know if anyone here is going to purchase the U.S. version of the phone and use it on T-Mobile or AT&T. Current pre-order sites are Amazon and Best Buy.
I currently have HTC U11 but have always been a Xperia fan and I'm really liking what Sony is offering in the XZ Premium so on a whim I decided to pre-order the phone.
I have T-Mobile for service so I'll be trying it out on that. My concerns are no VOLTE and no WIFI calling. I've been testing my LG V20 for the last week with VOLTE and WIFI calling turned off and it hasn't been an issue or bothered me at all so I think that I'm good there. Another thing is that it's missing the software for fingerprint sensor. I can live without the fingerprint sensor so it's really a non-issue to me but I understand that it bothers others.
Let me and others know what you think about it. Have you pre-ordered or will you order it? Would you use it on AT&T or T-Mobile?
Thanks!
UPDATED: So it appears that the phone I pre-ordered from Best Buy has the model# 8142. This is the same model number for the UK phones per the info from https://www.techwalls.com/sony-xperia-xz-premium-g8141-g8142-model-number-differences/. If this is the case then I guess that I am getting the international UK model, just from Best Buy. The phone listed on US Amazon doesn't have a model number so I'll have to say that it's unknown until someone orders it and can update me. Per that website there is a G8141 but I don't know who is selling it in the US.
Hi - I've ordered from Unlocked-mobiles.com (UK). Its ~100$ lesser + Bluetooth speaker ($150 in BestBuy) not to forget the Sony international warranty. Also you don't need to flash anything since the FP scanner works out of the box. I am using with Tmobile and haven't noticed any issues so far. Several in the US have got it from UK as per the other threads in this forum

Thanks for the input. I guess that a big deal for many is the cost difference between a UK version and a US version and that alone may drive them to opt for the UK version. It's too bad that I'm not too keen on purchasing a phone from UK and bringing to US. I'd rather purchase the US version from Best Buy and include the accidental damage plan to have that extra coverage as well. As a note I haven't owned a Sony phone since the Z3 from T Mobile and believe me I'm pissed that T-Mobile hasn't had a Sony phone since.
If the phones are identical (I think that's the case) then I could flash the UK firmware onto it and use as normal until (if) a warranty claim is needed then I can flash US firmware and off it goes. :good:
I'm interested in purchasing this phone at Best Buy as well and using it on the T-Mobile network. For those that have purchased and on T-Mobile, does the Wi-Fi Calling feature work? I love that it has dual sim capability for when I travel abroad, but I do use Wi-Fi calling just as much. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The unfortunate answer to that question is a definitive NO. Something about the fact that Sony doesn't have the device certified by T Mobile is what I heard. Same goes for the VoLTE.
I still use it on TMO though.
