if i hard reset my treo 750 ...that already has the upgraded WM6.1..will it erase the WM6.1 and restore it back to WM5 that it originally came with?
Oh it definitely will not erase your WM6.1 upgrade, only personal data, so rest assured WM6.1 is there to stay. The only way you would erase WM6.1 is if you flash another ROM, naturally.
I myself have hard reset many times one after the other (to test program compatibility with this Chinese ROM I'm using) and WM6.1 has returned to life again and again. There has got to be a limit as to how much your device will appreciate continuous Hard Resets in a row, though. I relate Hard Resets similar to formatting a memory card, there's always consideration for how many file deletions flash memory can take.
thanks,
ive been having problems with my treo 'auto soft resetting' and i think for last resort im going to have to do the hard reset..and cross my fingers!
Do you know if I have my Treo ported to Metropcs and I hard reset....will I lose my settings?

I am having nightmares with my Qtek S100 (HTC Magician, i-mate ...).
All of a sudden, I started having stability problems, phone wouldn't hang up, crashes in Contacts etc.
Never mind, I thought, I'll flash the firmware (something I have already done several times) and start out again with a nice clean installation.
The following behaviour has been checked with several firmware versions, from several sources.
The upgrade goes smoothly. The device can be used and soft resetted without any problems and it is stable. However, once I sync using ActiveSync 3.8 for the first time, the next soft reset provokes a freeze on what I would call the bootloader screen, with the Qtek splash, and the various versions of the firmware. The only way to get out of it is to hard reset the device, which means that all the synced info is lost.
To me uneducated eye, it's as if the memory pointers have gone haywire ans the synced databases are overwriting something they shouldn't.
I'm sure you would agree, a PDA without synced information is a bit like an early generation GSM. Bl**dy useless.
Please save what little hair and sanity I have left with some suggestions.
TIA

I have had a long weekend of reading and searching forums and need some help. I have managed to solve by previous issue of my Kaiser getting stuck in the tricolor screen.
Used the mtty file to reboot.
I have Hard SPL and now loaded Duttys Diamond V9. It took a number of efforts to get it to load but I was able to do this after loading the original HTC 6.1 Rom
Now i have a new problem with my Kaiser continually rebooting. This happens no matter which ROM I flash with. Can anyone help me.

Just a guess - but you may have some bad blocks that are in the boot loader area.
Here is what I would do -
1. try loading a different ROM and see if that solves the problem (it seems as if you have already done this)
2. if you continue to have this issue I would send a message to either JOCKY or GSLEON3 - PM them and let them know what your issue is. Theya re the best at this sort of thing.
Good luck,
Bill
Honestly,
What I would do is flash back to original ROM and bring it back to the store if you still have your warranty... As I think this could indeed be a physical issue, might not be resolvable with software,
Regards,
Have you tried...
Did you HR prior to flash as well as after the flash? I had this happen once and now I always HR prior to flash and after Flash. Sometimes multiple HR's prior and post just because I am neurotic. Did you try removing the SIM card? Or maybe try using a different radio. Sometimes this behavior can be a radio issue. If you are using one of Dutty’s ROM, try using the Polaris radio. Try re-flashing the radio first, THEN re-flash your Dutty ROM and see if that helps. Probably a compatibility issue between the ROM and Radio, no? Maybe?
Anyway, hope this helps. I know it is frustrating.

Hrm,
I get this sometimes too. I'm thinking perhaps its an issue with one of your today screen plugins...I am sure that's what has caused it on my device before.

I doubt that it is a today screen plug-in. If im understanding this correctly his Kaiser reboots b4 it even loads WM, so it wouldnt be a today screen issue.
Not Entirely

Actually, he never said it would not boot into WM. He said that he finally got the dutty ROM to load and NOW his kaiser reboots continually which is why I posted what I posted. I didn't see where he said that it resets before it even loads WM. Although his second to last line does leave me wondering if he means that no matter what ROM he flashes it resets before WM OR if he means that he can flash ROMS, get to WM and then has the reset problem. The latter would be indicative of a today plugin.

Thanks for the replies.
It boots before and after the windows screen and is inconsistent.
Could it be a problem in the boot loader? I did have to flash the first couple of times from the tricolor screen.
I have also had problems with the soft reset button. It now seems to be ok after the last flash but prior i could not get the unit to hard or soft reset.
Here is what i get when i enter tricolor screen and run mtty

I'd strongly suggest try a different radio that's got good reputation for your OS.
Or could it also be dirt in the soft reset hole? I don't know...
ok I have now returned my phone to its original state. I Followed the procedures outlines in Sirsycho post (thanks)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335568
It now appears the phone has stabilised.
Although I have managed to kill my original Battery in the process. Lucky for the back up battery.
The device is still rebooting so I guess there is a bigger problem then I can sort out
Is there a possibility that my soft reset button could have issues. It is definitely only working randomly!
For diamond we have L26 V9 ROM and Dutty V1 ROM. Which one of these do you have?

Mine will reboot randomly if I'm using Opera Mobile 9.5 beta or have it open. That happened to me with both the Laurentius and Dutty ROMs. I'm using the new HTC ROM that was posted over the weekend with the new radio and haven't done a lot of browsing but it hasn't happened yet.

Not sure if this is the issue, but I loaded Dutty's Diamond not long ago, and my Kaiser reset every time I opened WMP. There's been a few reports of it, although some haven't had that problem. Loading a WMP cab does NOT fix it for me (again, some have had luck, other's haven't).
@skipball
sounds to me like this could be hardware related .. maybe your soft reset button is stuck pushed in ... just a theory. If the phone is reverted back to original state you could always return for warranty/replacement.
I returned my phone to its original state (I hope LOL!) and will send it back to HTC. It is still rebooting.
Hello.
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask about this, but i'll just give it a try.
Recently my diamond started acting weird. Suddently some data wasn't there (Like contacts), and then after some time the phone freezes. Then i reeboot the phone by pressing the Reset button in the back, and then when it boots again, it is trying to make the firstboot screen again, but it cannot configure again because there is no more space for that. :S
Then i Re-flash the phone, and it works for like 3 hours and then Does the above again.
Anyone know what this can be, and if i can correct it?? I think it is some sort of hardware thing, but hope you guys know better
I know how to flash and some other things, but see me as a newbie (no fancy Words pleace )

Hi
I don't know if your problem is similar to the I had, where my phone would freeze at a random point and resetting was the only option. After the reset the phone would delete everything on the main memory (including messages and contacts). After a month with reflashing different roms, I think I kind found a solution that I hope also works out for you:
1. Download the original stock rom from HTC:
http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=133&cat=2&dl_id=483
2 Install it by following this guide:
The DEFINITIVE MTTY Thread!! - Diamond Edition
by MysticGenius. (The method basically deletes everything and gives you kind of a fresh start)
3Now everything should hopefully be working smoothly and you are free to reflash it with your favourite rom
Good luck (^.^)
I have the Verizon Touch Pro2 and it is freezing frequently. It seems like the freezes happen around text messaging (send/read a text, close the slider). The phone will redraw after rotate ONCE, then never again. Sometimes it recovers, sometimes I have to pull the battery. This happens very, very frequently. I was wondering if anyone out there knew about this problem.
ROM: WM 6.5 Verizon shipped rom
Installed stuff:
Microsoft MyPhone
Gougelet PE XnView Pocket
Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5
no2chem 1-Percent Battery
soft4vn.net Chinese Keyboard Font
Microsoft Windows Marketplace
Chien Homescreen Customizer
Skyfire
ScanLife
Facebook
Google Maps
mobIT Message Sentinel
I am using the non-Sense homescreen because before my hard reset it was freezing all the time. Now after the hard reset, after a reinstallation, the problem persists even on the new Windows Default home screen! What gives?
Please let me know if you have ANY ideas as to the cause. I concede that I may have to go through and un-install everything and try again, but maybe someone's knowledge can point me to the cause or tell me what I can try?
Sometimes when you flash a new ROM you do not uninstall all the old files and registry settings. When you flash your phone perform the following steps:
1. Clear Storage
2. Flash to a Stock ROM
3. Clear Storage
4. Flash your radio (if applicable)
5. Clear Storage
6. Flash your ROM
7. Clear Storage
NOTE: Do not use the hard-reset key press. This actually cannot wipe the phone as thoroughly as the builtin WM Clear Storage setting.
Taken from here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=1661617&postcount=1287
Before the final clear remove your battery for 30 seconds to fully cycle the phone. Does it freeze while using WM SMS interface as well as HTC SMS interface?
Ah, I see. This was a hard reset due to another problem where my company-mandated PIN entry bugged out and made my PIN stop working, which has the policy to wipe the phone after 10 unsuccessful attempts. Which type of hard reset would that use, you think?

It is hard to say, but if the phone is still on when the hard reset is performed then most likely it uses the one the WM Clear Storage. You should also perform a hard reset before re-configuring your phone, just to re-assure that all the files have been deleted. So once that program from your company finishes and the phone reboots, go to the phone settings and clear the storage again.
BTW, I noticed the same issue on my TP2 with the vzw stock rom. You might want to give this a try:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=88640
Download the correct version or your phone may stop liking you.
I have the same problem, showed it to a Verizon QA manager, a Windows Rep, and a HTC rep and all said they hadn't seen it. I'm trying the cab from ppcgeeks, hopefully it works. I have no other issues but the messaging
I even did:
Reset
S/w
Reset
but to no avail :/
Sorry in advance for my lack of knowledge.
First, I strictly use this device as a PDA and for wifi. I only have 850 mhz in my area, so I can't use it as a phone even if I wanted to. But I LOVE it and it's my 3rd universal so far.
I have a T-Mobile MDA pro, that I recently replaced the screen in, I bought broken 2 years ago, and never fixed it until now.
Well, it has windows 6 on it. But, it also has so much stuff from the previous owner, hundreds of contact, events, birthdays that pop up as reminders, etc.
My question is this.
If I do system restore in the system settings, or a hard reset to erase the data, will it affect the rom, and make it revert back to WM5? It was actually a QWERTZ layout, I think originally from overseas, and don't want the ROM changed.
I just want a quick way to erase all the data, so I don't have to do it manually, without affecting the rom.
Thanks so much in advance.
