I've been using cwmx.com for my outgoing e-mail for a couple years now, and have never had any success e-mailing attachments, like pics. Does anyone know what the size limit is? I did some poking around on google, and on XDA and couldn't find an answer for this, only the MMS limits.
I realize you *can* send an MMS to an e-mail addy, I do this all the time (mostly to iphone users) but sometimes I want to be able to actually e-mail an attachment such as a file or photo.
No one knows this eh? Maybe I'll try to figure it out. Anyone else give a crap?
Most of us probably didn't even realize that ATT still had POP email access. I remember back in early 2000 before the cingular merger, that I had an ATT email address with POP, but sometime after the cingular merger, I thought that they changed that to web based mail only. I stopped caring at that point and that was probably back in 2006.

I don't have an ATT e-mail addy, never have. Most ppl who have ISP's that won't let you use their outgoing mail servers unless your on thier network, use cwmx.com

Greetings,
When I purchased my ADP1 for here in Australia I was disappointed at first that the IM client did not come with MSN/Windows Live Messenger like it's T-Mobile G1 bretheren. But I was less upset when I read that the MSN client actually sends SMS's instead of using the internet. Unfortunately I can't find any post confirming/denying this!?
Can someone please confirm this if it is true? Because the JFv1.41 with RC33 installed on my ADP1 has it available under IM, and although somewhat slow to load up (I do have many contacts) it looks/feels as though its on the internet... I am still paranoid I will end up with a bill for thousands of dollars due to SMS's overseas to T-Mobile.
Cheers
Leon
PS. And for that matter can someone also confirm AIM and Yahoo! is not sending via SMS but rather internet? It may seem silly, but peace of mind for many I'm sure.
- bump -
here is the answer...
from how I get charged, i honestly can see that it is BOTH text message and data because u need data/internet to access those messenger services and each message u enter in msn live or aim counts as a text message.
thankfully for me, i have family unlimited texting and internet/data plan for my phone... but those messenger usually lags unless u are on 3G or some better connection.
Is that for RC30 and RC8 or just RC30? I thought it just used data.

The Y! and AIM apps have always been through SMS on TMo builds for all of their phones. I've heard conflicting reports about MSN though but I would put money on the bulk of it being through SMS. Honestly though, IM through SMS is terrible and has been for years. It's laggy, never up to date and loves to double and triple sends messages. It's the price you pay for not having a data plan.
I know palringo is working on a android app. it is in beta now, they use data only.

Joking aside they do have a solid product but at this point I'm just tired of waiting indefinitely. Although, as a G1 owner I should be used to this by now.
Who cares, you should have unlimited data and messaging when using the G1 anyways.

Do you know anything about Australian cellular providers or the OP? No? I didn't think so. If you have nothing to add then move on without brain vomiting on the Post button.
Do I get that right: Every IM messenger from market sends out sms instead of data messages as it normally should? So Hello AIM, Membo IM etc. too?
no the g1 built in IM program uses SMS. Hello AIM uses the internet connection.
Oh, thank god. I was confused by this "The Y! and AIM apps have always been through SMS on TMo builds for all of their phones"....
Thx!

with the g1 plan you get unlimited data, and I think 400 messaging. Or people like myself who dont use the g1 plan have unlimited data, and no messaging but still use t-mobile.
I'm on JF 1.41 RC8 and I just used my prepaid sim in my G1 and chatted on msn for a bit then sent 1 text messages afterwards.
It only deducted the credit for my 1 sms afterwards so I'm fairly confident the IM app (at least Live Messenger) just uses data.
You can use all messengers (aol, icq, msn etc) through standard gtalk application. Just configure jabber transport from other network to gtalk server. Instructions can be googled easily (here an example: http://www.bigblueball.com/forums/general-other-im-news/33739-connect-google-talk-aim-msn-yahoo.html)
Live Messenger Problem
Running the latest JesusFreke RC8 update, with the extra IM clients built into it, and I am receiving the following error when I try to sign into Live Messenger:
Unable to sign into the MSN service. Please try again later.
(Detail: Sorry, the phone number cannot be read from your sim card. Please contact your operator for help).
I have the phone on a T-Mobile contract, and I ported my number over from another network when I got the phone.
Any ideas on what could cause this problem?
Someone on another forum said they could only get live messenger to work while on wifi. Dont know if that helps.
Are you using the stock im apps? They use sms texts to send not data. This might be the problem you are having.
Yes, I am using the stock IM apps. Are there better alternatives?

Haven't found a way yet. But if you come across something please post it, I would be just as happy to be able to hook up to my laptop and send a fax.
if you guys absolutely need this, there is a "digital" solution where you subscribe to an internet service that will send and receive faxes for you and sends you recieved faxes via email for a small monthly fee, like 10 to 20 bucks. this not exactly what you are asking for, but thought you might not know about this.
Maybe you're looking for something like TrueFax? With this software you can send fax messages directly from your TP. I do not have the web site at hand, so just use a search engine to look it up.
CU,
Cactus World
MyFax
I use myfax.com for $10/month. You get an 800 fax number and all your inbound faxes come as email attachments or can be accessed via the Web. Outbound faxes are sent as email attachments to [email protected] or via the Web. Best part is that faxes do not diminish in quality or size on re-sends as they are converted to PDFs
Receive faxes and voice mail and its free
They will hook u up with a number and everything, only catch is if you don't receive a fax or VM in a 30 day period it will cancel so make sure u use it
http://www.k7.net/
I have not tried Faxing with my Touch pro, but if it can't do it, it's only because MS have not bothered putting in the correct drivers, Nokia phones have been able to fax for years, you just plug them in via USB, the drivers are loaded and then you can use them as a fax line as well as a dial up modem !

What's the catch, as nothing is free? Can you SEND faxes with this service?
i was more looking for something that will make the phone do the dial tone and stuff when i hook it up to a real fax machine, that way i wouldnt have to manually scan a bunch of pages...

I'm sure there are services, but those aren't standard text messages. They don't come from your phone number- rather, you send your message to a third party (the service) and their gateway sends it for you.
There are a lot of services that offer it for "free" (usually on a limited trial / adware basis), and a whole lot more that offer it for cheap, bulk rates (e.g. a cent or two a message).
A lot of them are available for Java- you can take your pick by googling "free java text message" or "free text message windows mobile."
I can't recommend any specific one, but note that they won't be text messages coming from your phone- and in some cases, you won't be able to receive replies. Lots of services are one-way or glitchy at best.
Just to let you know:
Betamax Voip services such as the one I am using, Voipdiscount does provide the service you are longing for. The SMS' sender number that shows on the receiver's phone IS your phone number.
There is a condition for this though: when you first register a mobile phone number (you only have to do this once), they automatically call you back and have you entering a code to make sure you are not faking someone else's phone number.
Once they've made sure you are the owner of this phone number, you can keep sending SMS from the internet and they just look like any SMS you've sent from your mobile phone.
Enjoy!
I searched on Google and tried all the websites but none of them shows anything about registration.........and some other sites even said Betamax is a fraud or something....
can u link me the proper page plz?
basically, that GOGII program contacts their systems for the purposes of sending a text message, if you were to get hold of the binary application, you could figure out their SMS server on the internet and then write your own program to send SMS messages - you could do it from a PC, PDA, whatever has internet.
anyone got a jailbroken iPhone handy?
i dont know if there is a wm version of icq, i used to txt ppl with icq all the time! they dont even have to have icq, u just put their # on a contact and use the sms service
most wireless providers have a web form for sms, tho usually restricted to ppl using that carrier and almost always annoying captcha ugh
hope this helps!

Betamax is not a fraud, I've been using their service for 3 years now, I would have noticed!
the proper link in my case is: www.voipdiscount.com but there are pleinty other sites belonging to betamax. Each has different discounts to call different countries. You should check them out and compare to know which one fits your needs best.
I have had problems, but not til recently, but i heard a month or so there were some.
I waited, until a friend (with Verizon) (I am with Tmo) told me she called in, they said that there was in fact a Yahoo problem, they fixed it over the phone by giving some new server settings?
FOR ME, I expected the same...I called Tmo, to get to Tech support was horrific. They then had me goto Yahoo Mobile, download an email App
Once done, I had a new icon, simply a Mail (yahoo) icon INSTEAD of an Email icon to use. I could pick which one???
1. Does this make sense? Was Verizon right, are there some server settings, changes I need to make (symptoms, you may ask: waiting, NOT 5 minutes, but sometimes an hour, sometimes NO messages. Some were from the forums)
So do I need to enter some setting changes OR use the new icon OR use whatever icon I want, downloading the app itself fixed it??
2. Within that application, can someone explain a few things??
a) What is "contact email" -- is it email directly in the inbox from contacts only, and if there was one from Joe Smith, not a contact, it would not list it?
b) What is the Picture Email?? whoooahh LOL this could get me in trouble. I saw emails pop up from a year ago I sent. Some were ones I sent / some were ones I received. But where did they come from. How do I get better hold on these.
Am I the only one in the world who ever got the shock of his life using Yahoo or an app like this. Thank God I caught it.
Thanks for listening.. I can't always express it easily. I am not a great writer. So forgive me.
Eric
i recently discovered someone has been having access to my text messages on their desktop. they know who i chatted with and what was discussed. i am on the sprint network. does anyone know how this is possible? is there something i should look for on my phone that would show a program running on it? would a hard reset resolve this issue?
Does your phone sync with Microsoft MyPhone?
The only ways I know of that would make this possible are that your phone is syncing with activesync on their computer,or its syncing with an exchange server that they have access to.
hi there are a few apps that "forward SMS's" depends on which phone you have... windows mobile have them called "sms spy" or something close to that plus "sms forwarder"... good luck android have a few too cant think of any off the top of my head. lil research goes along way -ttyl
All your text messages go through Sprint. If your buddy has an unethical connection at Sprint then he could get access that way. Contact Sprint and let them know; if being run through an employee then you might be able to get someone fired.
Ick
I would try reflashing a stock rom (in case there is malware)
Change your MyPhone password for before resyching (in case they're seeing texts there)
Avoid using WiFi in any are he is locating. (in case something is being caught in network traffic)
Run without extra apps (to rule out a rogue app)
See if you can text without him noticing.
Good luck
I highly doubt they are accessing your messages through sprint.
Reflash a nice new ROM from this site, eliminating the installed 'spy program'.
Change passwords to everything.
Wifi should be fine to use, regardless, if it is SMS it doesn't enter the wifi network, and as far as I know winmo doesn't use NetBios.
Only install apps from this site, trusted websites and the marketplace. Nothing he/she can change or edit or made.
You will be fine after this.
2 easy ways i know of....
1. if you sync to a server like say your work or personal email account, unless you SPECIFICALLY SET IT NOT TO it sync's EVERYTHING! calls, text msgs, contact list EVERYTHING!
2. if i were to get ahold of your esn and mdn/msid and cloned a phone to your account i would get txt sent to you as well
there is other ways but that is the easiest 2 ways, hope that help bro
cheers,
disco
I would be choking some peole out
Yea... first thing's first whoever is snooping on your ish... fire them, cut that nosy bastard out of your life, you're better off without them. If you're a kid and it's your parents, then none of this applies. Everyone's advice before hand, take it and change any other passwords to anything else they could have even .00001% chance of accessing.
I don't know the exact names but there are services available for insecure scumbags who'se lives are so sad they have to go snooping around like that. If you can gather proof of an information breach you can then press charges on them. Read a story a few weeks ago about someone who "broke" into his wife's gf's email and found out she was fkn around on him, he's now facing years in the slammer for it.
Even creepier than that is the echelon system... look it up
