SMS utility suggestions?(No Data Plan) - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hey everyone, I have unlimited texting but no data plan, So im going to try and find all the useful utilities that use sms, especially the ones that can replace something that would normally use data.(ie Facebook Mobile text vs Facebook Mobile App which uses data)
I think I got my point across, hopefully.
heres a list of things im currently using:
-ESPN Mobile Alerts
-Facebook Mobile Texts
-Cha-Cha
-Google Search
-Paypal
Anyone have some more utilities that use SMS only?

bump, anyone?

I am currently running wm6 and am looking for an aim messenger. I do not have a data plan but I do have unlimited text messages. Since the agile messenger uses data, would I rack up a huge bill using data or can i have it use my text messages instead? I am just a little confused about using data vs. sms. Also, does agile messenger work with WiFi? Thanks for the help!

1. Most messengers use data. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323654 -, making sure you follow the links back to the PPC article.
I don't know of a specific Smartphone version of any IM app to support SMS messages - as opposed to the PPC platform. I may be wrong, though.
2. are you really sure using data is THAT expensive? 10-20 kbytes an hour? That's most these IM apps use.

Java SMS/text-based Instant messenger (no data internet gprs wap wifi) for F700

Hello,
I have a Samsung F700 and I have a plan with unlimited sms/mms messaging but no data whatsoever, so I am searching for an instant messenger that functions through sms only. Any help would be appreciated, whether you can tell me where to download it and how to install it or names of programs or if there is a name for these types of messengers
does anyone know about a program called OZ? supposedly it uses sms (but possibly also uses data for some functions?) i read somewhere that att uses a att-branded version of it? would this work? where would I get it?
Thank you!
I have t-mobile if that helps

question about IM apps.

if im gonna use, for example, an IM app like windows live messenger, will it count in the messaging plan? or the data plan? how about third party apps like Fring?
P.S. im in USA. thanks.
It's not like sending sms, so it uses your data plan
yah, but im a little confused because it says sms, mms, pic msg, and IM in the messaging plan. so i guess i need more comments from at&t, or t-mobile users.
if you use the built in app. If you use a third party IM client like Slick, it just uses the Dataconnection, your provider has basically no chance knowing what you do on that connection, and of course it can not count as SMS if it is not sent that way.
a lot of IM clients that come pre installed on devices use SMS for sending IMs, solely to generate income. But basically all third parties you can download from the net use the data network and will only use a few kilobytes a day.
wow thanks. exactly the answer im looking for.
another question. how about windows live messenger? it's not pre-installed but it was recommended. hmmm

Aim / msn

Coming from the nexus one, i noticed that there are now aim and msn messager sync options. Does anyone know if the stand alone instant messaging client uses push or not?

I believe the built-in IM client uses SMS, so it should be near instant. Be careful if you don't have unlimited texts on your plan.

Maybe on the older VZW phones... but why would it use SMS when it should be using data on a smart phone?
Granted, I just use Meebo and never set up those accounts.

I can't answer the question as to why, but I'm 99% positive the built-in app uses SMS. Whenever you sign up it shows some sort of message that it will use your SMS.
Actually if you have an unlimited SMS plan, it's not a bad idea. You get near-instant IM notification pretty much anywhere you have a 1X signal, don't have to worry about a background service running and draining extra battery, etc.

Best Alternative App to Replace Unlimited Messaging Plan?

I'm considering dropping my unlimited texting plan and using an app in its place to save some money. I know I can use google voice for sms but is there an app that will allow sms and mms without requiring the other person to have the same app too? You can't send mms with google voice can you? I like the google voice idea because I can just use one number and not require anyone to use a special number just to text me. I think this could be a great discussion on how we can help each other find ways to save on our bills!
Edit: If this has already been discussed please direct me to that thread. Thanks!
I looked at the apps I used for sms and issue is that all of the one's I used were app to app. Best bet is google voice, maybe try some of the mass instant massaging apps, like ebuddy or palringo.
