[Solved] Alltel TP can't run ##778 epst.exe? - General Questions and Answers

Alltel Touch Pro (now Verizon customer with Alltel hardware)
OEM ROM
NC market in NYC (Verizon)
I had to swap phones due to hardware problems, and since I
ran *228 (2-roam list) I can't get into program mode ##778
tries to really dial and it fails. I checked the registry and
the correct entries are still there. I was able to do a hard reset,
and the it worked again. I'm guessing the data stored by the
tower somehow confused the OS? I noted that the xml in the carrier
cab for Alltel sets the ## numbers in the registry but the Verizon
version does not. Don't know if that means any thing though.
When I get home, and rerun *228 2 from Alltel tower will that fix it?
Any idea how to regain ##778 without rebuilding the phone again?
Thanks
PS: I found epst.exe in \windows but i think its just a rom program,
is there a way to make my own 'shortcut' to it to effectively run
it like ##778 is supposed to?
I have Resco File Manager and SK Shortcut Manager.
I thought maybe RFM could make the shortcut and
shortcut manager could edit it to add the operand
(##778) so epst.exe knew what I wanted to do?
hmms: it looks like RFM isn't displaying the hidden/system
rom files. Anyone know how to get it to do so? Or could
someone point me to directions how build the .lnk file
manually?
I need it to be:
\windows\epst.exe ##778
Thanks
I figured it out.
The Windows Mobile builtin file explorer was able to create
the shortcut, and SK Shortcut Manager added the operand
for me. I tested it and got the programming screens.
Thanks again

AT&T Settings Program

I remember when I had my Kaiser all one had to do was load a .cab file to get all of the AT&T settings loaded to ones phone, same with any T-Mobile settings.
Is there any way to get a file to do the same for the Dream to adjust everything for AT&T? Just wondering, it seems like it would be easier that manually adjusting everything.
Sorry if this is a re-post.

Flashing ?

Total Noob here, I've been reading and reading, then read some more. I'm confident I can do it, but got a question. Does flashing erase your phone set up. What I mean is when I first activate the phone i had to program my number and MDN and MSID. These wouldn't get erased where I would have to reprogram them again would it by flashing. I have a sprint touch 6900.
At it's most basic flashing returns your phone to factory fresh with the OS of your choice, so yes, you would need to redo any network specific configuration along with reinstalling any third party apps.
That said if you look you may well find a CAB file that has your network settings preconfigured so the reconfig is justa matter of instaling one thing.
Where would the cab be located at that has that information. Would I have to reactivate or just redo the mdn and msid.
to find the CAB, either ask your provider, search their web site or seacrh on here as there are many CABs for networks providers. As for what you have to redo, sorry can't help as I have a CAB for Vodafone UK and use that.
As deedee says, ask your provider and they will send you the settings. Mine did not however (Airtel-Vodafone & J Telecoms). Theres no harm in doing it the old way and writing them down for later use, part of the fun in flashing i think

HELP! CANT GET SPC TO 00000s on TOUCH PRO 2

Okay I have a Sprint Touch pro 2 I want to flash it to cricket, I have already ran the Hard SPL unlocker which then enabled me to flash various different ROMs onto the phone. The problem is that I cannot get the SPC to be all 0s so that I can get *228 to work on cricket. I already called Cricket and they have switched the phone over. I have also already installed a cricket carrier cab. I attempted to run the same protocol in Ryan mogul's thread using the BAF MSL Grabber but it wont work. Can someone please tell me what I am missing here. I have searched everywhere and nothing has proven helpful.
Try dialing ##778, a screen will pop up, click edit. I'm not sure where the SPC setting will be, so BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL NOT TO CHANGE ANYTHING YOU DON'T NEED TO!! The unlock code will be 000000 (6 Zero's).
I also found this:

No the phone is brand new from the factory I am pretty sure I need to change the SPC code to all 0s. As a brand new phone out of the box will have its own SPC code then once you change it to 0s you can put the PST settings in. Or does the Hard SPC unlocker already do this?
This is the only other thing I've been able to find regarding the matter.

If you have a Sprint Touch Pro2 this is the only way to get your MSL other then to call sprint.
1. You need a Reg edit tool like PHM RegEdit or resco registy editor.
2. Go to HKLM\Software\HTC\ATDbgLog
3. Edit item called "Enable" and change from "0" to "1" (leave out quotes.) Save changes.
4. Exit PHM RegEdit or resco registy editor.
5. Shutdown/turnoff device.
6. Turn back on.
7. Once turned on leave running for 1 minute or longer (a log files is being created durring this time in the "\Atlog" folder.)
8. After 1 min go back into registry and set value back to "0". Make sure to save changes and exit PHM RegEdit or resco registy editor.
9. Shutdown device again and turn back on.
10. Varify that the Registry value is still set to "0", if not then repeat above steps and wait 1 min before shutting down the second time in step 9.
11. Now you should open Explorer and go to the folder "\Atlog" in the root directory of your device.
12. You shoould see a file called "ATDbg0" (the "0" may be another number like 1), if your using another file browser you may see the full file name include the "xtx" extention. This file is a text file and can be opened in Word mobile.
13. open the file and use the find feature to locate "RMSL", you should soon find a line item that includes a 6 digit number, this is your MSL code.
after you have the spc put the phone into diag mode and connect with qpst and change to all zeros

Programming menus

Hey everyone. I'm one of the unfortunate ones with 3G data issues (thunderbolt wont connect to data at all).
Tried everything I could (battery+sim pull, factory restore, etc.)
Just wanted to list down all the programming/testing menus for all to have access to. A word of advise though, if you don't know what the option is, don't touch it. Some of them make sense. So this is just a place to put them all on the same post and make it easier for all to find:
1. Dial ##PROGRAM (Password is: 000000)
2. Dial *#*#4636#*#* (No password)
3. Dial ##778 (Password is: 000000)
Keep in mind *228 does NOT work on this phone, since it's SIM activated. If anyone knows of any other hidden menus, let me know, I'll edit the original post.

[Q] PRL switching on the fly without a computer

Well all this JB talk has made me wanna talk about something else lol!
Is there any app, or dialer menu option, or anything like that, now that I am on JB, that will allow me to switch PRLs on the fly? I can do it using QPST, but that means using a computer. I want to be able to move my PRL file to my sd card, and use it on my phone wo having to load it with a computer. Can this be done?
So i have been researching, and I have found threads where folks have loaded the epst.apk file into their system/app folder, then after doing that, there were able to ##775# on the dialer, and this takes them to the old school prl menu where you can change it from your phone. Here is some more background info on it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696073
Anyhow, i cant get this work. Wondering if anyone else has tried this out?
