[Q] PRL switching on the fly without a computer - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Well all this JB talk has made me wanna talk about something else lol!
Is there any app, or dialer menu option, or anything like that, now that I am on JB, that will allow me to switch PRLs on the fly? I can do it using QPST, but that means using a computer. I want to be able to move my PRL file to my sd card, and use it on my phone wo having to load it with a computer. Can this be done?

So i have been researching, and I have found threads where folks have loaded the epst.apk file into their system/app folder, then after doing that, there were able to ##775# on the dialer, and this takes them to the old school prl menu where you can change it from your phone. Here is some more background info on it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696073
Anyhow, i cant get this work. Wondering if anyone else has tried this out?

Virus on Tmobile Wing

Now this really sux.
I browsed to some site using my HTC Wing and less than 24 hours later, I started losing functionality in my phone. It started with the Start menu losing entries, then my bluetooth ceased, following that I lost internet connectivity completely and I even started having issues trying to place my calls. SMS msgs started coming in with different dates/times.
I'm stuck, In need to sync my phone up yet the sync software has no effect on the phone whatsoever.
I read a little about any possible causes and someone suggested to check my sd card. It's working fine and my files are still intact. Taking it out does not change anything on the phone. Soft and hard boots were performed ofcourse.
Anyone's input would be greatly appreciated.
tmobile sux in general. i had the wing for a few weeks and way too many problems.
i switch to cdma less stress on the brain.. better voice quality, etc..
tmobile just has a sloppy network and all my friends seem to have problems with them,. have you considered finding another provider? i don't have a solution for you, only a suggestion. ditch tmobile.
cept cdma is old school technology, gsm is the future now...and yesterday.
GSM. never anything else.

cdma might be older but far from old school. guess thats why i can download at 1.5mbit/s and upload at 400-600kbps.. faster than my home computer.. it's old for sure, yet it's a lot faster than gsm, go figure!
i didn't intend to start a debate. gsm is newer technology but that doesn't mean it's better.. and by no means im saying cdma is better... but look at what cdma does that gsm doesn't, then you decide which is better.
My only two suggestions are: Hard reset, Reflash the ROM.

I love Windows!
No virus on Wing But corrupted directories!!
I still haven't given up. Ran anti virus and anti spyware progs with no luck.
I don't have internet connectivity since I did loose my start menu. I was able to have the wifi working and sent myself an sms text message with an http link so that I could get internet explorer running. I was able to download the progs and check the phone for problems.. None unfortunately.
I did get total commander installed to get a better look at the directory structure and what might be missing. It turns out that the majority of the directories in \\windows\ have their names corrupted (showing boxes or maybe different fonts)..
Activesyn does not work so i can't transfer my files.
Can someone please tell me if there's a way to rename the directories and with what?? the rename command in total commander does not work and when trying to access the directory to see its contents I get "Error 3 changing to dir!"
PLEASE help.. i don't believe in hard resets.. there has to be another way around it.
btw, they directories that are corrupted are located in the main memory, not the SD card.
Could you back up PIM.vol and the other *.vol files in the root of your device, and also backup the "my Documents" folder and then hard reset?
I have had a similar problem with files in my Extended ROM on my prophet, but a hard reset was the only way to fix that.

I agree GSM is awesome. Also to the kat who has the wing. Hard reset your phone throw it in bootloader and flash it to its original rom

[Solved] Alltel TP can't run ##778 epst.exe?

Alltel Touch Pro (now Verizon customer with Alltel hardware)
OEM ROM
NC market in NYC (Verizon)
I had to swap phones due to hardware problems, and since I
ran *228 (2-roam list) I can't get into program mode ##778
tries to really dial and it fails. I checked the registry and
the correct entries are still there. I was able to do a hard reset,
and the it worked again. I'm guessing the data stored by the
tower somehow confused the OS? I noted that the xml in the carrier
cab for Alltel sets the ## numbers in the registry but the Verizon
version does not. Don't know if that means any thing though.
When I get home, and rerun *228 2 from Alltel tower will that fix it?
Any idea how to regain ##778 without rebuilding the phone again?
Thanks
PS: I found epst.exe in \windows but i think its just a rom program,
is there a way to make my own 'shortcut' to it to effectively run
it like ##778 is supposed to?
I have Resco File Manager and SK Shortcut Manager.
I thought maybe RFM could make the shortcut and
shortcut manager could edit it to add the operand
(##778) so epst.exe knew what I wanted to do?
hmms: it looks like RFM isn't displaying the hidden/system
rom files. Anyone know how to get it to do so? Or could
someone point me to directions how build the .lnk file
manually?
I need it to be:
\windows\epst.exe ##778
Thanks
I figured it out.
The Windows Mobile builtin file explorer was able to create
the shortcut, and SK Shortcut Manager added the operand
for me. I tested it and got the programming screens.
Thanks again

PRL

Hello,
For some reason the USCC tower keeps throwing me PRL Version 2004 which is not the correct one nor is it an EVDO PRL. Could someone pull the PRL from their USCC Mesmerize and send me a copy of it?
Thanks!
Update! I got a copy of the latest EVDO USCC PRL. It is version 15110.
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B3bJhlpqhFHFYzM2NTI5ZjAtZGUyOC00ODY5LTg5MzUtYzdmYmUzMzkwZWYy&hl=en
I've got 15102. How do you apply the 15110 version?
I'd like to know how to apply these PRL updates manually as well. Also, if someone could explain how to save them from your phone, I'd appreciate that.

Actually it is pretty simple.
Word of caution do not attempt if your in a roaming area and not at home.
Just dial *228 and follow the messages. Took me about 50 seconds.
I now have 15110. It was 15102 before.
Cheers!

yeah what MrHanMan is asking is what's the MANUAL way to do it? Like how do you get a PRL from another user and install to your phone?
I may have missunderstood the question. But it may be part of the phone (radio). I don't think that is flashable. It goes in where your ph numb, and mein is stored. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong

You can read and write PRL from a Samsung phone if you have the Samsung PST applicaiton, and the DLL file that allows the PSt to read your particular phone. That's about the only way I know of you read a PRL out of a phone or write one into a phone.
I don't have the links for such an app, but I imagine you can find them online somewhere.
QPST
I used QPST, which is Qualcomm Product Support Tools. You will need to know your 6 digit unlock code to read and write the info to your phone. There are a lot of other options that can be changed with the QPST software, but I'd think twice unless you know what your doing. Your phone will need to be place in modem mode, which is accomplished by entering ##8778# from the dialer and making sure UART is set to modem and USB is set to modem as well. This will add your phone to your computer as a modem and give it a COM port. You may need to add the COM port under QPST since your computer may pick a higher COM port such as 9, 10, 11, or 12.
Heres the link:

When finished make sure you change the USB option back to PDA or you wont be able to transfer files to and from your phone using it as a storage device.

[Q] Can't open message/mail anymore

Hi,
Suddenly I can't open my mail anymore, I have energy rom and when I go to the mail or text message tab it just restarts (after a while doing nothing).
I also can't open it using poutlook.exe
Any ideas? I don't really mind having to hard reset, but would love to be able to save my text messages, however, PIM backup and any other way I tried (i.e. MyPhone) doesn't seem to be able to get them anymore...
I don't know how long I will postpone just doing a hard reset, because I also want to be able to receive my text messages off course...
TIA
Just out of curiosity, which version are you using? I don't know if I can help but I'd like to know which one you are using so perhaps we can isolate it to either an old ROM or possibly a corrupt version.
Well, I just happen to be copying the rom folder to a usb disk and it says:
EnergyRom21916Sense25cookie20feb14
I don't think I recall any of those issues on my phone (at&t Fuze) with the 21916 ROM from 14FEB, sorry!
OK
It seems the problem was a corrupt cemail.vol... which kinda sucks, because I can't seem to be able to get my text messages out of it.
Anyway, I'm going to hard reset (device was getting slow anyway), I have a backup of cemail.vol, but no idea how to get my messages out of there... I feel another topic coming up :s
Thanks for trying to help.
Interesting, wish I was a programmer so I could help debug it at least
If that is what is called for, then by all means! You seem to know your way around how to check files and know what some of the files do and the likes, I'd say go for it but I wouldn't want to support the need for additional thread space when you can just edit the first post to reflect it. Ah the power of technology! Drool drool drool!

Honor 6 L04 issues with the Lollipop update

After downloading and flashing the official B521 update, sure there was no usable keyboard app, so I had to voice search to a 3rd party site to download one, but other than that all was well... or so I thought. I happened to switch my phone's mobile data setting to 3G only, during a spot of bad reception (the constant switching made it impossible to do anything), after which I realised that this update had removed all the LTE options from the dropdown menu.
My first instinct was to go to the "project act menu" from the dialler, but that would not load at all, when typed in correctly and confirmed...the phone just clears the number input area and doesn't open any menu. At this point, I did not know how I was going to sort out the issue, I thought maybe a .prop or .db file would be the answer. I have edited such files on other phones to do a number of things, should be simple right? Boy was I wrong.
Before beginning to poke around I did some searches of course, and found that you can get the 4G options back, by editing a value in the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db ...So I unlocked my bootloader, rooted, and did just that. Put the file back in place, swell, guess I'll reboot. Then it froze on the Honor logo, impossible to turn off, with good timing--I was able to access the stock recovery and fastboot modes.
Since then I have been able to get my phone to boot by deleting the settings.db, so that Android created a new one, only problem is... this new file of course has so much hardware specific things missing from it...It's kind of a joke. All I wanted to do was allow myself to freely switch between 4G and 3G on the Lollipop update, and in trying to do so, bricked the device and had to lose all the stock settings in order to get it working again.
I changed the permissions and ownership of my edited settings.db (as best as I could in root explorer) after replacing it, but nothing seems to help as far as I can tell, if the settings stay I cannot boot.
How exactly am I meant to get the original database back? I assume if I can downgrade to the Kitkat, that will sort that side out, but even if I do that...and then reflash Lollipop... I'm still going to be losing the 4G option, unless I never change it from auto--ever.
This is just silly and frustrating... Literally all I want is the official settings.db for this phone on lollipop aside from: the network modes changed so that I can switch between 2G/3G/4G, 3G only, and 4G only modes. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this on my own, and I wish I made a backup before trying...
Please help, thanks~
