Hey All-
I thought the issue with SD card would have been fixed with the T-mobile WM2003 ROM update (4.01.16). Although I am not sure if that is what did it. I did not have the problem until I updated ActiveSync (v3.7.1 - Build 4034) when it came out about a week ago. I have an ActiveSync backup file (backup.stg) from BEFORE I upgraded all of this (a different partnership as well). Is there a way to extract the data from that file to restore my SD card?
Many Thanks
Out of curiosity, what brand of SD card are you using? I'm using a Kingston 512 mB but have read on a few forums problems with the Kingston loosing content in the XDA II. I have not experienced the problem.
Ed
No this problem still persists, I've used a PNY,Sandisk & Panasonic SD card in my XDA I running WM2003 4.01.16 and it blows them all away. I've tried everything and all the ROM from's YORCH'S Kitchen. They obviously only tested the XDA ROM'[email protected] T-Mobile without any SD memory attached at all, and couldn't have cared for customer feedback. However, saying that it's suprising the amount of PDA users I know, whom don't have additional memory attached. I hope there's a resolution soon, in which ever form, upgrade, reg-keys anything to stop this annoyance.
Cheers.
I am using a San Disk 128Mb card. Any info on how to get into that Backup.stg file? Thanks
Yes, I do believe it is a bug that most bug testers missed to point out with the WM2003 4.01.16. I've encountered the same problem and lost all the files saved on my SD card (San Disk SD Card). The sad part about this bug is that your lost files are unrecoverable!

Hey scottychef, for that just go do the following on your PC:
First you need to go to "My Computer" in flile explorer then you select Tools menu and then "Fonder Options" and under the "View" tab check "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and then find the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\"YourUserName"\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\"YourOldProfile"
And copy the .bak file into your current profile directory.

Some people came to the conclusion that the sd card erasure was something to do with the Today configuration and that when they chose the default screen etc the problem went away.
After going around the bend with my SD Card being erased/corrupted on nearly daily basis, and being fortunate enough to have friends with both XDA I’s & II’s running both PPC 2002 & 2003 I thought I’d set out and scour the registry to see if anything was missing that could be causing the problem, and I instantly noticed a one thing. On my version of 2003 (4.01.16 T-mobile) there is no key referring to FAT file system for the SD Card, which both the XDA I (PPC 2002-O2) & XDA II (PPC 2003-O2) have.
Also the FATFS.DLL which exists under the \Windows folder (Hidden of course) on both PPC2002(O2) & PPC2003(O2) is not present on the T-Mobile (4.01.16) ROM, However there is a FATFSD.DLL referenced in \HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS but not linked to the Storage Card
So I've simply made substitute keys from the ones missing.
Since I’ve entered the following Keys, I’ve nearly gone a week without a single hiccup. Now it may be too early to tell, but if a few of you guys with this problem should try it and it works for you, then problem solved.
Here’s what to do.
Install the PMH Registry Editor (freeware) to your XDA then navigate to
\\HKLM\Drivers\PCMCIA\SDCard
Add the following REG_SZ key:
Value name: FSD
Value data: FATFSD.DLL
Also, I’m not quite sure if the next key adds any performance/stability but was present on the XDA II and not the XDA I, but I added it anyway
Add the following REG_DWORD key:
Value name: BlockTransferSize
Value data: 64
Could be a combination of either key or one or the other, or neither, but I haven’t the time to try each permutation. Or maybe I've just been lucky this week and It'll get wiped over the weekend, I'll keep you posted.
Now reset the device and good luck, plus please post your findings as I could be barking completely up the wrong tree!!
It happened to me also!! I've bought a new MMC card, 256 MB,, and 3 days ago, I woke up & found my card wiped out!
I've used a software called Easy Recovery Pro, and I've recovered all my lost file on the card
I used a digital camera to create a new drive ( I: ) for the card, so that I can recover the files!! Is there any other mean to map the MMC or SD card to a drive??
anyway, I just read some notes on this forum, and I've found that its a bug in windows 2003, but to solve the problem, always format your card using FAT32, and before formating it, just switch the today screen to DEFAULT, then format, and after the format completes just put your favourite theme :? (you could say its crap, but beleive me, it worked, am using my card now without any problems no more)
Micro$oft is weird
I'm bumping this. Is it still working, spadb? Did anyone else try this procedure?

Well maybe, but i don't think so, becuase when my MMC was wiped, I noticed that Windows has changed the file system to FAT32, although it was FAT16 before!!
So all what I think is that Windows needs the storage card to be formatted as FAT32 and not anything else!
I did formatted my MMC using FAT32, and now its working so fine, no wippings no data loss, it works like a charm
Am still using my MMC card without fear of getting wipped!
spadb thats a interesting fix, you might also wants to label your card (
as in reformat and then give it a name, that solved it for me and its been
months since my last erase).
HTH
Got the same problem
I tried most of the T mobile Roms they have the same bug which is painfull to restore data to the Storage :S and relocate the shortcuts..anyway if u just wanna try how this could be deleted try to pull off the sd out then put it in do it several times it will be wiped I tried that on purpose with the newest Tmobile rom and today wiped again by itself with an old Tmobile Rom 4.01.00 and the SD is on the FAT32. I just can't tell what should we do in this case nor the Tmobile wm2003 are good neither the ATT with the sound clipping, If there's some1 could get us the best Rom ever tested or a way to fix all this bug we'd appreciate the help.. P.S my SD is 256M.B
GOD DAMN IT!!!!!!! My 256 MMC card got wipped again!!!!!
I hate this!!!!! I hate it I hate it I hate it
I wanna know if the SD card registry solution posted by "spadb" works with MMC cards as well!
I will recover my files & format the card again..
I hope this time it won't be wipped again!
by the way, is there any software which can map the SD / MMC card to a logical drive under windows, while the device is on the cradle (without using card readers)?
I'm getting this problem too. I've had my XDA II for less than a week and its wiped my SD card twice. Looking around other pocketpc forums on the web it appears that other people are experiencing this too. I wonder if this is a bug in the latest Windows Mobile 2003 update?
I've tried using the repair option in an evaluation copy of storage tools and it appears to be able to restore the data. It's almost as if the FAT is getting corrupted including the backup FAT.
I'm using FAT32 for the filesystem. I know my SD card is ok because it has worked 100% on my Orange SPV phone previously.
Going to phone O2 tomorrow because this is getting beyond a joke.
Cheers,
Richard.
name ur SD card storage or somthing and make it fat 32 ive never had a sd erase yet (touch wood) that was using a sandisk 256mb card, soon to get a simpletech 256mb (speedy )
What tool can I use to label the SD card? Storage tools doesn't appear to have that option.

Richard.

For all of you guys who lost their data from their SD cards, you can ALWAYS get your data back using any SD Card Reader or Digital Camera.
Just put your SD card in the card reader or the cam & run any file recovery software on the removable disk which appears whenever you connect the card reader / cam to your PC, and you will restore all of your files.
I've restored all of my files using this simple way of recovery. 8)
Hi folks,
is there a way to place TT N3 on my 512 MB SD card? Since I've got the maps on it and TT N3 is of no use without them, I just would find it logical to put them together and remove the whole lot by taking the SD out.
The BT GPS receiver software should still stay on the MDA.
Thanks
It wont work because some files are also written to the main memory even if you choose sd card as install destination.
You can move the app itself over to SD but performance suffers badly and it results in frequent lock-ups. It's not a supported configuration and best avoided.
During installation of TTN3 I installed the app on Storage Card and not in Main memory. Indeed a few items are installed on main memory, but the main app itself resides on CD Card. I have not experienced a lockup o f TTN3 during normal use.
I am a happy user of TTN3 on SD Card.
O2 XDA-I 32 MB:
ROM Version: 4.01.16 ENG
ROM Date: 02/04/04
Radio Version: 4.16.00
Protocol version: 32S54
The lockups occur most on MDAII/XDA2/Qtek2020/iMate.
It is all dependent on the max. data-transfer rate of your SD-card.
I can run from SD fine, IF I do not use POI.
BTW: I dont see the advantage for MDAII/XDA2/Qtek2020/iMate to run completely from SD. With every Hard-reset you will have to re-install because of the tiny bits that are installed in main memory.
For XDA1 I can imaginge that limited memory space is a reason.
tomtom on sd
i have tomtom on my sd!
it can be done!
The app and all components in their own folders on the sd!
From my experience installing TomTom on the SD card does not seem to work to good…
Poor performance huh!!!!
hmmm not sure about the poor performance!
Could you advise me of what I will gain by adding TomTom3 to my XDA rather than my 512mb SD card?
I would love to know what I am missing out on speed wise!
After a short amount of time TomTom just starts to slow down and then dies!! - Installing TomTom into Main Memory or Storage/ExtRom works fine...
Jimbob, are you saying that you could remove your sd card and have a complete install of tomtom 3 on it, if you try the sd in another phone/pda I think you will find errors thrown up because files will be missing.
...

You are correct!
I have tried it! it works fine!

Thats not how it works!
If you had any shred of brains, you will know that processes only run as quick as the item they are running on!
As long as all other apps and utils are not running, TomTom will run at full capacity!

JimBobUk, there are other ways to point out that someone is wrong. Merlin was not offensive, so no reason for you to react like that.
now for the issue:
My experience is that TomTom can lock-up IF the data transfer rates of your SD-card are not high enough. I experienced this. It has nothing to do with TomTom itself, but with the maps/poi files.
I would like to know HOW you did install tomTom on the SD card completely. When I tried it I noticed some bits that were installed in main memory. Also the registry settings are in main memory. THIS means that if you put your SD-card in another (similar) device TomTom wont work. Also, after a hard-reset TomTom wont work.
These findings were reason enough for me NOT to install TomTom itself on SD.
Our US Editor is always looking for ways to install SatNav to memory cards and leave as much precious system memory free. He has been investigating which components of TomTom can safely be installed to a memory card and which need to remain in main memory.
His findings are about to be published in a short guide he has prepared on how best to achieve this with Tomtom Navigator. It requires some work and mods to the registry and there are parts of the install that need to be left installed in main memory if you want a stable system as well as registry entries etc.
It is not possible to install every element of TomTom Navigator to SD such that transferring the card to another device will allow access to TomTom.
i will put my card in another device that does not have TT3 installed and give you the results
......................
So there’s no confusion, I thought I would restate my experiences when installing and using TomTom 3 on an SD Storage Card…
When installing TomTom, for the application I specified that the installed location would be the SD Storage Card. Installation went smoothly and the following components were installed as follows:
Installed onto the SD Storage Card:
TomTom Navigator Voice
TomTom Navigator
Installed into Main Memory:
TomTom Wizard
TomTom GPS
What happens is that the components TomTom Navigator Voice and TomTom Navigator get installed on to the target specified during installation and components TomTom Wizard and TomTom GPS always get installed into Main Memory.
I then install the TomTom Maps on to the SD Storage Card.
The above installation all seemed to worked perfectly… but what I was finding was that when using TomTom in the car and after some time driving, TomTom seemed to slow down… what I mean by this is that the refreshing of the screen slowed down and began to become jerky… some time after this the device would hang which meant doing a soft reset (a little difficult when driving!!)
So I uninstalled TomTom and then reinstalled it, but this time I stated that the installed location for the application would be Main Memory, which meant that only the TomTom Maps would be installed onto the SD Storage Card. By doing this, it all seemed to fix the problem for me…. at the time I did not have time to investigate the reasons why I was having these problems, I just needed to have a working version of TomTom that I could rely on in the car.
The problem could not be anything to do with the number of processes running as I always made a point of closing everything first before running TomTom. Also if it was a process problem, then this would have affected TomTom irrespective of whether it was run from Main Memory or Storage Card.
My conclusion at the time was that it was not going to be suitable for me to run TomTom from the SD Storage Card, and therefore decided to install to Main Memory instead. This has recently changed, however, and I now run TomTom 3 from my Extended Rom which all seems to work great and frees up my Main Memory.
I hope this clarifies my experiences with TomTom 3.
Has anyone else got problems recieving phone calls whilst using TTN3 ?, my phone wont ring whilst TTN3 is running and i seem to miss all my calls,
Is there a solution to this at all ?
Cheers

When you run the installer you choose 'Storage Card' rather than 'Main Memory' but this does not install everything to storage card.
We will be publishing an in-depth guide to how to move everything that can be safely run from the storage card shortly at PocketGPSWorld. There are a few small files that need to be left in main memory to ensure stability.

I used the ExtendedRom Unlocker to gain access to the ExtRom, the download can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=567
I then copied the content from the ExtRom to my SD Storage Card and then deleted everything from the ExtRom.
When reinstalling TomTom you should now be able to select the ExtendedRom as the target installation location...
TomTom SD Card Install?
Hello,
Does anyone know whether it's possible to put an install for Tom Tom onto an SD Card?
I've got to install TT onto like 70 M1000s then ship them out. I'm concerned that the battery may die in transit and main memory will be wiped. In which case TT will need re-installing
I've gotta get an activation code for each copy of TT before installing it onto the M1000 and the install takes over 30mins
With activesync I'm not able to install it onto more than one unit at any one time but if I could copy the files direct to SD card and run the install from there I could save myself a lot of time and hassle! Plus if the battery runs out I could fire up the install and everything would be sweet.
My concern is putting the install onto the SD card and passing the activation code to it.
If anyone knows an answer to this I'd be grateful for some pointers!
Thanks
I have now a microSDHC 6gb in my p3600.
It is a Sandisk microSDHC 6gb in a microSD to miniSD adapter from Kingston.
I have about 4.5 gb data on it, many mp3's.
On this moment it works fine. Have anybody try this before?
(I have AX3L WM6 rom on my p3600)
Brilliant!
It boggles my mind why they have 6/8 gb micros, but not minis....soooo irritating. Guess I'll give your method a try since it seems to be working. Looking forward to more than 4gb on my phone!!!
Mike
Please tell me if you need any patch to do that?
I also have 3.0.8..AX3L WM6, please tel me if I need further patch or cab to enable my trinity SDHC compatible as when I was downloading the ROM I saw a SDhc cab I wasn't sure that time if I should had download & install it to make my trinity SDHC compatible. Plaese anybody guide me I'll be very thankful. I intend to buy 8gb sdhc. ???? please email me at [email protected] as I might loose track of this thread. Thanks
I have installed AX3L 3.1.1 Lite.
I didn't load a SDHC patch. I had buy a miniSDHC 4 gb and it works without a problem.
Now I have the MicroSDHC 6gb.
The 8gb MicroSDHC is comming in the next months.
Cool, thanks for the conformation that 6GB MicoSDHC’s with Micro>Mini adapters work in our WM6 Trinity.
Has anyone else tried a 6GB in a WM5 ROM by using the various patches around?
There are so many RegEdits and DLL’s floating around for SDHC support that I thought I’d try and collate them by viewing the contents of the CAB’s and doing some binary comparisons.
These are just my opinions and I welcome anyone who can correct/enlighten me.
1)
HTC_SDHCsettings.cab – 4.4KB
This one from lvsw basically adds a bunch of registry keys about BuiltIn SDHC and StorageManager but doesn’t add or modify any files.
2)
sdhc.cab – 66.4KB
This can be found all over the forum under different names. It adds two DLL’s but doesn’t add/modify the registry.
a) sdbus.dll – 47.4KB
b) sdmemory.dll – 15.4KB
3)
miniSD HC Patch v2.2.cab – 15.6KB
This one by AX3L adds the same sdmemory.dll from 2b and nothing else.
4)
SDHC drivers WM6.zip and here– 69.4KB
This has some extra fixes that have been proven to work in E-TEN’s.
a) sdhc.cab with the same two DLL’s as 2a&b.
b) Certs.cab – 4.59KB which adds a bunch of certifications (not sure what else it does).
After installing the two DLL’s to \Windows\ and the Cert’s, then you copy these two slightly different DLL’s across.
c) sdbus.dll – 47.8KB
d) sdmemory.dll – 15.8KB
I don’t have a SDHC to try this out on but will get one while in Japan next month. It would be nice if someone could try out a combination of these on WM5 to see if they work. I think a combination of 1 & 4 might do the trick
@ janegsm or anyone with AX3L 3.1.1 please check out these two sets of DLL’s and do a binary comparison with the ones installed on your ROM.
Would be nice to get some closure on this
OK, so I dumped AX3L’s 3.1.2c and did a binary comparison on the apparent DLL’s. As suspected they are different again to the previous DLL sets.
Only problem is, I don’t know what to do with the S000,S001,… files, convert them to reg entries? They mention reading the cards using block mode addressing and not byte mode addressing which is promising.
AX3L has pointed out on other threads that SDHC is controlled by many DLL’s and they are ROM specific, so I might just be talking round in circles, but if someone can do something useful with this then we might be able to get a working SDHC patch for the Trinity!
BTW janegsm, what class of MicroSDHC do you have? Class 4 appears to be most common at the moment.
im interested to know whether anyone has these running on a standard WM6 rom from HTC.
Also, are there any speed related issues with using microSD cards? there certainly are speed differences between SD and miniSD cards (mainly noticeable in my digital camera though).
Lastly, i can't seem to find any miniSDHC cards over 4gb. Is it just me, or there really isn't any out there? Why are there larger capacities for microSD and SD formats?

Simple... electronics are getting smaller thereby the need to use a smaller card i.e. less real estate for the socket. Lots of companies are shying away from the mini to migrate to the micro. Mini manufactures see this trend and don't wish to spend resources developing and tooling for the mini when a micro with adapter will do the same thing. Hope this helps
umh, no one have try micro sdhc on WM5? the fix realy work?
where i can buy only micro to mini sd adapter? i have find only kingston package with micro to mini, micro to sd and micro sd of 1GB or 2Gb not more big.
I have WM6 ROM on my p3600.
I had buy a Sandisk microSDHC 6gb class 4.
Also I buy a Kingston 2gb micro, this is a set with 2 adapters: microSD to miniSD and microSD to SD.
I use only the sandisk 6gb and the microSD to miniSD adapter.
(I sell the 2gb MicroSD)
(When the Sandisk microSDHC 8gb comms I will buy the 8gb to.)

No luck with WM5. I tried all the options above (except #3) and the best I could get was to have a 6GB micro SD recognized as a 2GB card. Any solutions that will work with WM5 would be welcome, as WM6 is not an option for me right now.

Gutted, I still haven't heard of anyone getting this to work with a WM5 Trinity
Have you tried using AX3L's DLL's (from post 6 of this thread) after installing the certs.cab?
There has been a surprising amount of success here which is exactly the same as option #4 of my post you quoted.
I still don't have a SDHC card but will probably jump straight to the 8GB, although there still seems to be issues being able to see more than 4GB of the 8GB cards even using Trinity WM6.
Now I'm even more determined to get this working on WM5.
Still No Luck w WM5

I followed up on both of your suggestions. I tried the thread you pointed me to and I tried using AX3L's DLL's. The only thing I got out of the process was a lot of trouble overwriting the DLL's. When I succeeded, the cards were not showing up at all. Otherwise, the system only saw 1.7gb of my 6gb Micro SDHC.

Problem: I was using a SanDisk 6GB MicroSDHC Card with MiniSD-Adaptor in my Trinity (P3600):
With the Original WM5 Rom there was no chance; when I switched to Bepe's WM6 German it was recognized at once and working (still I think a bit slower than a 4GB MiniSD Card) but the older my installation of WM6 got (or perhaps the MicroSDHC Card) the problems got worse: Very slow when using something that was on the Card and finally no chance to work with the card anymore. Then I formatted the card in my PC and did a new installation of the same Bepe WM6 ROM on my P3600. Since that time there is no chance to use the card in the phone: it doesn't get recognized, did't matter what I tried. But in my much older TyTN with WM6, the card works perfectly!?!
Maybe anybody has an idea. e.g.: I wanted to format it in my Trinity or TyTN, but I can't find any option for that.
(Funny: When I put on my camera in Trinity, it asks to use Main or Card memory, I chose card an it hangs (needs softreset); memory manager says no card at same time; I put the card out and in my TyTN and open explorer and can see that the trinity has made new my documents and pictures folders on the card???)
edit: Seems to be a Trinity failure: Now I tried my older 4GB MiniSD card and 2GB MiniSD card in the Trinity and it doesn't recognize any of it; so it should be a Trinity failure?
Does anybody have a clou what I could try to do or will the device have to go to repair?
Thanks a lot for any suggestions!
Hello i Have a (HTC clone NT901??). I had to do a Hard reset, and after that i can't access the storage card. I have included some pictures.
As you can see SKtools detect the card, but not Windows 6.1.
I have tried other Sd cards with no results.
Note that i did not have any SD-card in my phone when the picture with expansion slot "Not in use" was taken.
Maybe someone has a bright idea what the problem might be.
Forgive my english, i'm Swedish.
I'm sorry if this is not the right forum for this ,but i don't know where else i would put it.
regards/MickeF
Edit: I have included my registryfile if someone could look through it.
*SOLVED* Bad soldering in SD-SLOT. Now the card work like a charm.
Check if the pins in the card reader are making contact with the SD card. I had the exact same problem with an iPAQ 210. I couldn't find any way to fix it, not hard resets or anything. Eventually the problem went away on its own(after a month or so). Hope yours eventually starts to work, sorry I couldn't be more help.
DisMountSdcard.exe???
I have looked in the windows directory an found a file called DisMountSdcard.exe
What is that? I have googled it but it did not find any answers. Someone?
I have looked in the registry to find if the exe loads but it don't.
It can't be deleted and says it is writeprotected.
Does the card work in another mobile or PC?
Might there be a problem with the partition or filesystem?
In windows desktop version hard drives are sometimes visible by programs but not windows. That suggest that the filesystem is currupt. Not shure how this works with flashcards and winmo.
Yes it works flawless in another original HTC phone and desktop computer.
Can somebody explain too me how it's possible for SKTools to see the card (only in SD information though), but not by WM 6.1.
I think it's the drivers ieg sdbus.dll or sdhc.dll, sdmemory.dll but i have tried to exchange them to others without results.
No one who can help me???
check the SD is well in other Mobile Phones,if well, just use some tool to format it?Really OK?I don`t have any idea, just try
New pictures
I have now tested my card in my son's Touch Viva (yes it works there) and i have attached the picture in SKtools. You can compare and maybe advice me what to do.
The first picture is with card in Viva, and second from card in my phone.
Dead forum??
Seems that no one is interested in this.
I just ran out of ideas.
If the card works in other computers or phones the card is ok.
If your phone can´t read ANY cards then the problem is your phone.
The next step is to find out if its a hardware or software problem.
It would be good to back up your phone and do a reinstall with a known good ROM. If that fails, then there is something wrong with your hardware. Have you tried cleaning the card slot?
I have cleaned the slot. One thing i don't understand is that SKtools detects the card in SD information as you can see here. If it was a hardware fault it wouldn't be detected att all.
[SD information]
Bus driver version 5.2
Slot 0
Host index 0,slot index 0
Inserted card Memory Card
Card type SD Memory
Interface mode 4 bit(s),Clock rate 25000000
have attached photo on the bad soldering at the sd-slot.
So are you 100% sure that´s the issue (ie. the soldering). If so, great news.
Well after i resolded the microsmall contacts it's working perfectly again. No problems att all with my 4gb SD-card.
Annoying though, but if you buy a chinese mobile maybe you can expect this.
Otherwise i love the phone. It has all the features i want and more, and is nice looking. Internal GPS,WIFI,3,2MP Camera etc.
Hi guys,
I'll apologise in advance for this thread because I'm quite new to WM. I've got a Treo 750 running WM 5 and I'd like to upgrade to WM 6.0 or 6.1 if possible, mainly because it seems that 4gb mini SD cards will not work with the older WM 5?
At present I don't have a mini SD card or micro SD card w/ adaptor. I was wondering if it would still be possible to upgrade to 6 without the external memory and where I could find more on this?
Edit: I have a telstra branded Treo 750 and I tried using the 2-23 desktop updater but it came up with "unsupported device". Does this mean I will require a 2gb card in order to use the bootloader method or are there other options?
Thanks.
U need a miniSD card.
