Hey all!
i need some help guys, i cant make my 3g/hsdpa internet work on my phone. im stuck with a "e" meaning im using edge and never seen the "H" or "3g" icon to use high speed internet.
ive been reading about flashing, and roms and whatnot and i think im in the right place on how to fix it, but have no idea where to even begin..
if someone can help...greatttly appreciated.....
ie. which rom works, how to install etc..
thankx
If you bought a touch pro and not an at&t fuze you cannot use 3g on your phone on the rogers network.
Rogers uses the 850 band for 3G and the touch pro does not support 8503g. if you have the at&t fuze it supports the 850 3g band and should work no matter what rom you use because 3g frequency support is hardware dependant not software.
so theres basically NOTHING i can do about this problem?
Unless you have superior abilities (borderline God-like) in the art of persuasion and are able to get the folks at Rogers to see the wisdom in offering 850 Band support for 3G ... sadly, no.

well the only real valid solution would be to sell the touch pro, and then buy an AT&T fuze.
Mine is a Fuze and I have the same problem.
I was using a May version of Energy Titanium ROM and had always an H (HSDPA), I am living in the same house, place the phone at the same place, the only thing I changed was upgrading to Jun version of Energy Titanium ROM, now I got only E (Edge) no matter if I turn 3G On/Off, set Advanced Network HSDPA On/Off.
I use Titanium because I love SPB Shell, Senses are too slow for me.
Radio: 1.08.25.20M1 (the same on both ROMs) +Rilphone.dll
Is a ROM issue?
Please help!
no one help?
any link to flash back to May13th Energy ROM?
Moved as not ROM Development.

I recently purchased an HTC Touch Cruise from phonesource-USA without doing my homework. (What can I say, I was overwhelmed by the coolness of the phone). Before this phone, I was using an Excalibur and a Titan from HTC. I think I already know the answer to this question, but wanted to ask the home experts out there.
I absolutely love this phone, but am I screwed on 3G when T-Mobile releases it this year?
P.S. I'm located in the U.S.

T-Mobile USA Will use 1700mHz band for 3G and according to some sources it will use 2100mHz to. Witch T-Mobile say it will not have full experience of there 3G. But it will work.
And i think it will be possible to use Radio from Sony X1 witch have same Chip sets and everything except screen.
AT&T 3G
I think I may be in the same boat. I did read up on the phone before I bought it to work on At&t's 3G network. Even thought the phone operates on 1900mghz I have not been able to get it working. It always is on the Edge network.

are you saying you have not been able to get the phone to work on att's 3G network? i've read on howard forums where other owners are seeing the "H" and "3G", suggesting that others have been able to connect...
3G
That's exactly what I am saying. I have had it configured to the correct frequency for AT&T's 3G since I turned it on. The very first time I put it on 1900 MGHZ I did see a H and then a G, but I'm sure the G was for GSM.

When you say "configured to the correct frequency for att's 3G", did you manually set the Band to 1900 mHz? or do you have it set to Automatic? for all my HTC devices that support 3G, i set the Band to Automatic and it will pick up and use the att 3G/H band automatically. i only see the "H" when i'm tethered to my laptop or downloading a 1 meg + file.
att 3g
I did it manually. I figured it wouldn't work on auto. I will try the auto detect and see what happens.
3g is up
Well it says G right now, but not 3G. I know I have crappy reception here so maybe it will change. Thanks though.
yep... having good HSDPA/UMTS coverage is a must to access the network. if it says "G", you're using GPRS, "E", you're using Edge, "3G", you're using UMTS, "H" you're using HSDPA. you might check att's website to see if you have high-speed coverage in your location. every HTC 3G capable device (e.g., supports Triband HSDPA) that i've purchased has always connected to att's network with the "Auto" Band setting...

Ah this sucks. Why can't America just use the same frequencies as the rest of the world. I don't want to have to purchase another expensive phone right after purchasing this one. Looks like a Sony X1 will eventually be in my future
Thanks for the reply.
3G???
I had it on auto all day, but no little 3G icon. I know there is coverage, becuase my TYTN and even my blackjack picked it up right away. I guess I'll just keep looking..........
AT&T 3G
I am usually indicating 3G or H. I have it set to auto and it semms to be working fine for me.

I too have found you need to leave the phone set to Auto. A soft reset after you change it from manual selection to auto gets me the 3G back immediately on boot up.
ATT 3G
I have ATT 3G & H in some areas when I travel but my home area does not have 3G coverage only EDGE at the moment. It depends on ATT's coverage whether you will get 3G or H. The phone is fully capable to work with ATT.
got my Orbit 2 today, and HSDPA & UMTS are working fine (in dallas)...
using a polaris with at&t in buffalo, ny. 3g and HSPDA work fine in most areas. sometimes if i go deep within a building it will swtich to edge which is normal.
3G!

Is the HTC Touch Pro able to work on U.S 3G band , if not is there a radio patch that will activate the U.S band on the device. Please help.
This is a very hot topic on this forum but so far from what i've been able to see none of the radios have enabled 3G. This is not to say that 3G isn't supported by the hardware although its looking pretty grim. It appears that the ELITE team is working on this since they just released Hardspl

We shall see what happens, although the bands are available in the "band" settings tab so it MAY be a radio issue.
Bit early to know yet, as there is only one user here so far who has hold of an AT&T Fuze (RAPH11000) we dont have a huge ammount of detail yet.
Both the newer 1.02.25.31 and 1.02.25.19 radios seem to have similar protocols (same QCT_BOOT and HTC_BOOT), it would be good if any user could flash the (apparently) older 1.02.25.11 radio and see if it does anything?
I really wish i could help out on this 3G front but no 3G in my area...
I can help...

I have the 1.02.25.19 radio here in Chicago. I know I have good 3G coverage from my TyTN II that I had previously. But why would you think the OLDER radio (1.02.25.11) would have U.S. 3G? ...jus curious.

Its bundled with the AT&T ROM which is currently on the AT&T Fuze devices people are testing.
Higher radio version number doesnt necessarily mean a better one, as veterans of the Hermes will verify
The overseas Touch Pro cannot get 3G in the US. Just like the Diamond, the Touch Pro from overseas (RAPH100) does not have a WCDMA 850 radio.
Flash all the radios you guys want... it's not going to get you 3G on the 850 band. You'll have to wait for the US version/ATT Fuze if you're in the US and want 3G data.
Anyone know when AT&T sould release US version/ATT Fuze?

Until we have tested newer ROMs and radios that statement is pure speculation. MANY devices have had missing bands and etc...but have had them unlocked in ROM and Radio updates so it is too early to be writing off 3G support yet.
I have a TouchPro coming tomorrow. I called HTC today and (although I have about as much confidence in this as the paper I wrote this on) I was told by a lower level tech (I think he knew what I was talking about) that a "software" upgrade would allow for the European 3G enabled device to work in the US for 3G
... I sure hope so since I forked out the cash today
The Treo 750 didn't even start out 3G capable at all and was made 3G able with a ROM upgrade
Hoping
Hardware
Maybe a very stupid question, but what about openning up an eu version to see if the quad radio hardware is there? I would assume the radio chipset would be labeled and numbered so that we would know once and for all.

I thought about this but cracking open a 900 dollar device and completely voiding the warranty really isn't worth it. If someone can get schematic from HTC which i doubt we could see if the hardware is installed.

I believe there is an asian hardware version, this is what the HTC techs keep mentioning that might have the 850 3G radio.
I have a case into HTC support asking them to answer the question for me around if the radio is hardware capable of 3G in the US and explained what bands I was talking about and that it was in the software to enable those. I Posed the question as if I was unhappy that I was selecting these bands and it wasnt working to try to get an answer out of them will report back when I am answered one way or another.

Just so you know - I sent a similar email to them regarding the 850 band on the Diamond and I was sent a very nice response informing me that the phone I purchased was not intended for the US and did not have the hardware capability to be used on ATT in the US. Low and behold the xda developers made the 850 band work. Now HTC offers a rom upgrade opening the 850 band they said was not in phone. Unfortunately the response you get will not be the definitive answer.

I understand yours and others' reasons for not believing me or assuming it's speculation. All I can say is there will be a lot of effort put forth for no reason, just like with the DIAM100, only to confim that the hardware everyone is trying to unlock isn't even there. If the efforts put forth do nothing more than prove the above to be true, then at the very least people can rest more easily with full confirmation.
So I flashed Romeos2 to my new Fuze. It works fine, and the 3G logo went away and was replaced with the H logo. However, now when I use data, it is painfully slow. I'm assuming that its using edge - anyone have this issue? Any solution? I have the PDA data plan.
is it possible tha ROMeOS is meant for euro and asian Touch pro's meaning it wont get the 3G working in the US
TBH you should post this in the ROMeOS forum
You should also make sure that your data settings are set up properly for AT&T. They may not be after the flash.

do a search for htc connection setup. that will give you the proper network settings.
Isnt the H for HSDPA which is faster than 3G? Mines been doing the same thing.
i have the same problem. (no 3G or HSDPA only GPRS/EDGE)
tried 3 different roms and 3 different radios (with the .32 i didn't get any http connection at all, but icq etc. worked)
i have an german tp without branding ...
solved my problem ... 3G was deaktivated (default by the provider [o2])

so I did a search and found multiple .cab files for it. How do I know which one is good for AT&T? Does anyone know if ROMeOS2 supports AT&T connection properly?
H stands for HSDPA, which is a technical term for 3G.
E stands for EDGE.
G stands for GRPS.
When I installed ROMeOS on my Fuze, there was a connection window that popped up that had country and carrier drop down boxes. Try going through the connection settings and see if you can find something like that.

HSDPA is the high-speed version of UMTS/WCDMA/3G.
G stands for GPRS.
E stands for EGPRS or EDGE meaning high-speed GPRS.
I was just logging in to correct myself! Thanks ;-)

This is incorrect. 3G is the blanket term used for high speed mobile data. If you have an ATT branded phone and it shows 3G then you are on a UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system) network which is slower than HSDPA (which stands for high speed download packet access) but still faster thank EDGE or EGPRS or whatever you want to call it. However, when I tested RomeOS on my Fuze, I too got the H symbol instead of a 3G one. I am fairly certain that in order to make the Fuze less confusing, an ATT branded Fuze will show 3G for both UMTS and HSDPA. I am now back on a modified ATT ROM by NotaTreoFan and it shows 3G when I am in the same spot at my highschool's cafeteria as where RomeOS showed an H. Hope this clears things up (or possibly makes them more confusing).
Edit: Looks like we all wanted to correct it
I have a samsung EPIX I have done a lot of looking around all over I found that the epix supports 2100ghz HSDPA. So it should use T-Mobile 3g am I correct? I can not for the life of me figure out how to get it to work am I fighting a losing battle is it not possible? Am I missing something in the setup? I have had it for a few weeks and really love it. I would appreciate any help thanks.
John
hmm normally u have to goto connections setting and turn on HSDPA and reboot the device. it should auto connect using the 3G ,(depening on fone icons H mite show instead of 3G) as far as im aware HSDPA is great if using ur fone as a modem for laptops or desktop computers,
t-mobile uk supports upto 4.2mbs depending on area.
i'll try to look into this for u but u mite need to contact samsung as T-mobile only support soo much.
also HSDPA loves to drain the battery!
I called Tmob support and they said all I have to do is pop my sim card in and if the settings are correct it will work on 3G. They did not have any other info for me on my phone. I have no problem using EDGE network so I am assuming it is just in the phone. I do know now that my account is ready for 3G thats a plus YAY! I also did not see a place in setting to turn on HSDPA. Thanks for your help it is greatly appreciated.
This is from the samsung web site it shows it supports UMTS/HSDPA (850,1900, 2100MHz). I found a service menu code to set the phone to wcdma only, but i get no service when I force it to use wcdma. Wcdma is the band for 3g am I correct? I also found a code to let me lock the exact band I want to use but I do not see 2100 I do see a 2000 but 2000 still dose not alow me to get service.Am I missing something? Am I just fighting a losing battle?
well my friend, I have been having the same question stirr in my head for weeks now, because i got this phone like a month ago and i love it. i would prefer this phone over almost anything that is out right now. What i have found out so far is that this is a losing battle. our phone (epix) does support 2100ghz but it does NOT support the also equally as important uplink frequency. (1700ghz). this is the problem. Tmobile uses 1700ghz uplink and 2100ghz downlink. and as far as ive discovered the is absolutely no way to fix this. no radio rom dowload, and no adjustment to the radio reciever/transmiter that ive found. i also am willing to do just about anything to get 3G with this phone also because its a BEAST. this phone is very quick and has a TON of amazing features but theyre really not that great if you cant get the phone to work to the best of its abilities. anyway, hope that helped a little.
yep, must have both 1700mhz and 2100mhz radio for tmob 3G! Very few ppc devices have this off the wall 1700...
that is correct, you must have both the 1700 and 2100 bands supported. Not very have the 1700 unless they are branded as tmobile. I have a tilt 2 and the Epix both running on the TMO network and neither will ever be able to use 3G.
So it looks like TMO is using 1700/2100 for 3G while AT&T is using 850/1900 MHz. So basically the Dash3G is useless on AT&T for 3G.
Does anyone know if flashing the radio part on the Maple with one that has the correct frequencies will enable 3G on AT&T's network? Or are the radio frequencies a hardware thing? I know the SNAP S522 is the true USA version with the correct bands I just have no way of getting my hands on the radio partition.
I want 3G on my Dash"3G".
Firstly - thanks very much for all the ROM's and your hard work!
I'm a long time browser of these forums, but don't post much. Also a long time user and "flasher"!!! All the way back to the old MPX200 days. Always liked WM Standard, so it's realy good to see all this interest!!!
HTC seems to have been real cagey in their frequency descriptions when it comes to the Dash 3G series of phones. I read somewhere that there are software driven transcievers in some obscure phones out there......and I wonder if HTC actualy did this with their latest and greatest....
Just thinking out loud, per your question. When you look at the spec sheets, they seem to be "non-commital with regards to wcdma specs.
Hmm.
Also, it'd be good to have a set of radio only ROM's, as and when we see T-Mob USA fixes.. there needs to be some improvements made with regards to switching between edge and wcdma - in my opinion. I'm in the DFW area and get dropped calls, the phone drops to edge way too often, especially after a call.
