Wait for a bit for the battery to settle down, and try turning the device on. If it turns on and you get stuck on ROM version splash, switch it to boot mode (soft-reset while holding Camera). Once in boot mode, power button will work to turn the device off. Hook the device up to a wall charger (not USB cable) and it will charge up, effectively un-bricking. Allow it to charge up to 100% before any flash attempt.
The point here is that a device does not charge up while in ROM version splash or in boot mode, but only in boot mode does the power button work to turn it off (at least in my device).

Download the latest, full ROM from your device manufacturer, and re-flash it while in boot mode (might not work under Vista or Server 2003, use Windows XP/ActiveSync 4.5 to flash).
Hard-reset the device, and once asked, press Send key to reformat FAT partition. You might get the dreaded "Format is failed" error message. The only way out of this is backing up and restoring from a miniSD card, which includes an additional BINFS formatting step, not present when flashing from boot. For a complete procedure, see:

Best of luck.

i have done the same ....... but i have to ROM version splash (RGB) constanly on without the orange light showing (usally show when charging)... is this ok for a full charge
You probably don't need to charge the battery. If it is at the rainbow screen (RGB) and you get the word USB in the bottom left corner when you connect it to the computer, you are good to go to reflash your manufacturer ROM. Once you get a good flash of your manufacturer, you will be able to recharge your battery and will probably notice that you are still about 80%. I tried to flash 6 times and was still at 83%. Stay cool and put an official ROM back on and you will be back in business.

No, PC-USB cable charging did not work for my Cingular 8125. I had it power-bricked as well, and powering it off with the power button and hooking it up to a wall charger was able to charge it back up. The only other way is to take your battery to a friend, a Radio Shack or a Circuit City, and ask the guys to charge it for you.

Hold left-side upper Comms button + right-side upper Voice button and press-in the right-side middle soft-reset spot with a stylus. Keep holding the keys and after a reset your device will ask you to press in the Send key (the key used to answer an incoming call) to FAT format. Hold Send and release Comms + Voice and off you are.
For more information, Read The Fine Manual, it's described in detail all over the place.

No, as mentioned above, your device might not charge while in ROM version splash, or in boot-mode. ROM version splash and boot-mode RGB are two different things. If you are in ROM version splash (IPL/SPL/ROM/OS versions displayed with cellular operator logo), hold down Camera key and and press-in the right-side soft-reset spot with a stylus to switch it to the red-green-blue boot-mode. Once in red-green-blue boot-mode, press the power button to power off the device (it does not power off in splash, but powers off in boot). If it is powered off, and hooked up to a wall charger, the orange light will come on, indicating charging. Once it turns back to green, you are all set to re-flash.
You probably do want to fully re-charge your device before re-flashing, because if it dies in the middle of a flash, or in the middle of a miniSD card restore, you're back to square one.

No siree Bob. That's not what's gonna help you.
You need to get into the bootloader screen (tri-color screen). To do this, you need to press and hold the camera button and just tap and release the reset button (while still holding in the camera button). Now you're at the tri-color screen (you can release the camera button now).
Now, connect the USB cable to your computer that has Activesync installed. Now, just download and install your original carrier ROM to the phone as you would normally do. That's it!
Magically you will have a working phone again.

I had the same problem of the battery not charging from the 3 colour boot screen. Your phone is definately recoverable but first you need to get a fully charged battery. the only way i could find to do this was to buy a new battery from ebay that came with a free desktop charger. It was about £10 i think. A small price to pay for recovering your wizard mate.

Not necessarily. My understanding is that for a flashed OS to boot, it needs a FAT partition, just like a desktop OS. A FAT partition lives inside a BINFS storage system. If a device gets stuck in the ROM version splash screen (operator logo and multiple version numbers) your OS installation might be fine, but it cannot access its expected file system, and - just like a desktop OS - just hangs. To see if that is the case, do the hard-reset + Send procedure I describe again below. If this *is* a BINFS problem, you will get the "Format is failed" error message.
Is that what's happening with your device?
If so, re-flashing a ROM does NOT fix that problem, since flashing a ROM does nothing to re-initialize BINFS, allowing later FAT partition format. Yes, I agree it is pretty dumb of HTC not to include such an important step in a complete flash or a hard-reset, but that's just how things are. BINFS initialization, however, *is* a part of a miniSD card backup and restore process. Buy a cheap, $10 miniSD card (I used 256MB), and follow the procedure in the link I posted earlier.

You are probably letting go of Comms + Voice keys too early, effectively getting into a soft-reset instead of hard-reset. Keep holding those two keys, "do not let go" (to use the "Titanic" line ), and press in the reset spot with a stylus. Keep holding the keys. Screen will turn black and sit there for a while. Keep holding the keys. The device will turn back on, and a message should come up asking you whether you want to go back to factory settings. Keep holding Commns + Voice, hold down Send (green phone icon), and THEN let go of Comms + Voice. A FAT format should commence.

Hi,
I have installed ~2 weeks ago NBD 7.9 and everything was ok. Today I have restarted my phone to change my SIM card but my phone could not start.
I see HTC logo but phone freezes after having NBD logo and nothing happens.
As you can image because of could not connecting to the phone, I can not also update ROM.
Any tip to recover my phone?
Did you try a hard-reset?
Can you explain what exactly you mean? Probably I do not know what is hard reset on these devices.
Ok I have found hard reset on the page
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WizardFAQ
But now there is no power also. I also could not boot anymore.
* Press and hold both the Comm Mannager Button and the Voice Command Button
* While keeping those two buttons pressed, press the Reset Button with your stylus
* After about a second you will be prompted for confirmation. Press the Talk Button to confirm
----
oh I see, you found it.
the hard reset set your phone to the "original state" of the ROM (in that case right after you installed your NDB rom).
what do you mean there is no power?
Could it be your battery is empty and needs to re-charged?
There is no response on the phone now.
I suspect battery is empty but when I try to connect power cord no response also.
If you are sure your battery is not empty try to get into the bootloader mode:
depending on the type (G3 or G4) follow the instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
especially step G3.2 or G4.2 respectively.

When I tried to connect to power while the phone is off it takes some seconds before response. Have try.
I have a G3 device (Vodafone VPA II Compact). But there is still no response.
I think it is power issue now. The bad thing is that I have only USB cable at home and the main power charger at work now.
Are there any way to charge with USB cable when phone is not open?
I would suggest following:
1. ensure your battery is full
2. do the hard-reset again - this may solve your problem already
3. if not, try to get into the bootloader mode (see the thread referred to above for instructions)
4. follow the instructions to re-load the ROM

I just tried ... while your phone is off the USB connection to the PC should provide you the current .. at my case the WIZARD starts to charge .. have a try.
----------------
the red LED light on the right above the display indicates the charging .. and turns green once it is fully charged, so in any case, you should see a light, although it takes 3-5 seconds after connecting to the USB.
Does it work?
I have tried and there is no light. As I remember before it was not possible if you are not connected via ActiveSync.
Anyway, I can try Monday at office.
Thanks for your help!!!
You're welcome. Good luck for Monday. Hope it will work out. Not much help yet from me but I will be around here.
This was driving me mad as well. I had to put it into bootloader mode (holding camera while resetting) and flash back to the Tmob 2.26 and then reflashing nbd.
The trick is to disable the HTC home plugin before you install any other apps. From what I understand its to do with some mysterious dlls.
I found this out on Friday and so far I haven't had any problems but I guess its still early days.
Good luck!
OK. It was a power issue and I could make a hard reset at office and it works again now.
I will try NBD 8.1 and see the difference.
Thanks for your help a lot!
good to hear it is working again!
I know this is a bit of an old phone now, but I'm hoping someone might be able to help...
When I switch the phone on, it gets to the Windows Mobile screen and then just hangs. After a few minutes, it turns itself off.
So far, I've tried the following;
1. Soft reset
2. Hard reset
3. Remove battery, put on charge (red light), replace battery (amber light), hard reset
4. Removed battery for 2 weeks
5. Praying
6. Swearing
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thx
Bad Flash
Hi
You could try starting the device in bootloader in order to re-flash the ROM, or flash a new ROM. Methods for this are:
1) Press the soft reset hole button whilst holding camera button fully in.
2) Remove the battery, then re-insert it and switch the device on by pressing the power button but again ensuring the camera button is depressed fully.
3) Remove the battery and re-insert it. Don't switch the device on but plug it into a Windows PC using a USB cable whilst, you guessed it, depressing the camera button.
If you can get into bootloader (three coloured screen with some yellow writing) then you can probably reflash the device. It sounds like a software problem not a hardware problem but I could be wrong on that.
If you can't get the device into bootloader mode you have a problem that is more complicated to fix, about which I can't advice.
Best wishes

Hi,
Thanks for the reply....I couldn't get your method to bring up the bootloader to work, but tried pressing Power and OK while doing a soft reset.
This brought up a screen with 4 horizontal bars - red, green blue & white. Text at the top says;
HERM100 (text in white)
IPL-1.01
HERM100 (text in yellow)
SPL-1.04
In the white bar is the word 'Serial'
Does this sound right?
Then it just hangs on this screen - is there something else I am supposed press on the phone, or do I do something via my laptop with activesync etc?
Sorry for the additional questions, but I've never had to do this before.
Thanks
An update....
After noticing that 'No GSM' appears on the splash screen, I have now found this page which I think might answer my questions.
I'll have a go at this tonight

Sorry for my bad englsih!
After I flashed it because it did not recognize the SIM card more, it's probably completely dead. No shortcut is possibile.
But it is interesting that the phone when it is connected via USB and I, obviously connects the battery inlay with the computer. It has not yet seen anywhere else on the screen a reaction. The key combination VOL + + HOME + POWER indicators
Only the computer signaled by two short beeps that something was infected. Also in Device Manager a response for the USB ports is detected.
But only when I use the battery inlay. Not when I take him or USB interface cable or ausstecke!
Because there's still any hope?

Hello;
1) Don't Panic (Yet) - Depending on what you have done, there may be some hope.
2) Tell me: What Rom where you before Flashing and wich ROM you have just Flashed.
3) Tell me If you use "ODIN" and if you Checked "EFS Clear" ? (NEVER DO EFS CLEAR AS THIS WILL ERASE YOUR EMEI ! )
4) Revert to your Previous ROM;
5) Check Your IMEI;
Mean While do some research about "EFS" (What it is and what it is for)
Let me know how more as soon as possible.
