Broken Start Menu - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario ROM Development

Today I decided to install a dog whistle program for fun:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-dog-whistle.html
I first installed it to my MiniSD card. After installation, nothing was added so the start menu, nor were any program files added. Next I tried to install it to the device with the same result. I finally chose to try the MiniSD, but again, nothing happened.
I decided maybe a soft reset would randomly fix it. Now nothing appears in the start menu except "Today."
I uninstalled the program via ActiveSync and did another soft reset. I still have the same problem. I checked \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and everything is still there.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
EDIT: I had turned it off and left it off for hours and now it's normal. Idk what fixed it, but I guess I don't need help anymore.

?My phone soft-reset when i press Settings in Start Menu

Hi. I have a huge problem. When I press the settings in the Start Menu my phone soft-resets immidiatly.
I dont know why.
As far as I know there is no path to the settings (Like in the windows folder),
But I've tried deleteing and recreating \Windows\Start Menu\Settings.
Nothing works. I dont know if it is some kind of virus or just a bug. Most likely its the registry that is messed up.
I haven't installed any programs on my phone recently and I use the LG KS20.
If I dont get a response quickly I will make a hard reset (If so, I will tell that on this thread).
The only time that this happens is usually when there is a major failure afaik and that you may have deleted a vital file. If you have everything backed up prior to the incident, just hard reset the device and pull up the back-up.
Well, I could't wait anymore without my settings so I made a hard reset,
And it worked.
Most likely the registry had been messed up, But its back to usual now.
Thanks for the help, Everyone who posted of this thread
hard reset is always the most secure solution

Ugh.. What did I do and how do I fix it?

So what did I do....
I installed .net 3.5 compact on my phone, and then installed Advanced config and made a few TF3D tweaks. Everything seemed to work ok. I then installed hTorch and it worked.
I then installed dotfred's taskmanager and then did another TF3D tweak. (The cache size one) and then did a soft reboot.
Now my phone doesn't even work. I can barly boot up and when it does boot up I get all of these error about ***.exe can run because it is not a valid
application.
Im thinking it was the .net 3.5 maybe.. or the dotfreds... no idea really.
Phew... so What'd I do wrong? I cant figure out how to un-install the stuff I put on it, because active sync wont run because it wont load on my phone. I literally cant do anything on my phone. The time doesn't even show. All I can see is the battery, reception and that it is on vibrate. I cant even change the volume.
Thanks for any help... I would love a way to do it w/o losing all of my numbers but that maybe the only way. (but I dont even know how to do it like that)

The simplest would be a hard reset but will cause you to loose data, to do this press the the volume down button while pressing the reset button (next to the usb port) then it will ask if you want to hard reset so press the volume up. This will place your phone back to factory defaults.
Any idea how this happened? I would like to do all of this over again, just not sure what I did / didnt do...
I cant get this thing to hard reset.... ugh!
I have tried pressing and holding the volume down button and then pressing and holding the reset button next to the USB and it just keeps rebooting. (Also tried the center button and the volume button at the same time and then hitting and/or holding the reset button.)
Whats odd is sometimes is comes up with my password prompt and it works, other times that same password prompt comes up but my password doesnt work....
Wow... after about 15 reset, and 5-10 times trying to hard reset it... it just started to work all of a sudden..
I'm afraid to reset it again. No idea whats going on... worst part is that I work in IT so I'm really confused as to what is going on.
Hard reset is performed by doing the following.
1. Press the volume down button.
2. Press the action button.
3. Press reset button with stylus.
Press all of the above mentioned sections and continue pressing until you are prompted to perform a Hard Reset.

This is the method for entering bootloader mode, not Hard Resetting the device.
If you have your phone synced to outlook, you should be able to restore your contacts. Also I save all my contacs to sim via sim manager.
a bit of advice which I use... always backup ur phone after installing a program. After each single install do the backup, you should have Sprite Backup which came with ur phone. This way, you can go back to any one point in time to see what F'ed up, takes a bit longer but its worth it.
This doesnt solve ur current problem but at least u can make sure it doesnt happen again... and fyi, everyone ends up hard resetting their phone at some point in their life and lose all data... ur not the first and wont be the last so breath and take it easy.

XDA Orbit 2 Help Needed.

i attempted to run the .cab file for battery status, and when i did that it started installing then suddenly froze, then upon resetting the phone using the button on the bottom, it loads to the today screen as it were, and then freezes and will not respond atall, i know it isnt a fault with the touch screen as i have to enter my PIN before it gets to the today screen.
i am new to this so do a "dummies" guide as it was any help will be gratefully recieved.
Richard
Um i have a feeling that you may have a little problem here.
I dont know a brilliant fix for this other than to say to do a hard reset. BUT this well restore it to defult, factory settings as when you got it. So back up your phone of anything important before you do it.
To do it hold down the start and ok buttons and press the reset button. Wait for it to bring up the screen saying 'to restore press send'.
I cannot think of a reason but if its crashing i would think that it would be having problems with loading the files for today so i would guess that on the grounds that the install didnt finish it has, unfortunately corrupted some files.
ahh thanks, got it sorted now

Fuze freezes during power up

Hi all.
Yesterday I installed a cab file that required my phone to reboot. Once I started to do so, my phone froze on the 'at&t world phone' screen during power up. I've removed the battery several times and tried to restart it but it freezes the same way everytime. I've also used the reset button to no avail.
Is there any other way to get it working or is it done for good?
Just hard reset it; hopefully, you remembered to back everything up before you installed the cab. If you didn't, then consider it a lesson learned. The device isn't bricked, but the cab must've screwed up the startup process somehow so that now the device won't start up.

[Q] Need help. the file 'start' cannot be opened

The file 'start' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate...
I have no idea where to find this file and how to fix the situation. The error prompt pops up constantly and freezes my phone to where i have to soft reset all the time. I cannot do a hard reset on my touch pro as my friend got it wet on a canoe trip and the volume buttons are no longer of any use. It seems to only do this on newer roms as I can use the original ATT firmware just fine. I do not use a sd card to flash.
From what I've read over the internet I need this file's certificate or something or another. If this can be provided by anyone I would appreciate it. Thank you.
The message almost never has anything to do with certificates (if you're on a cooked rom, if definitely shouldn't). It usually means you have a bad shortcut, or an app is missing some files so when you try to launch it, it can't open. When do you get the message? What are you trying to start? Is it a program in the start menu, or is it something you're launching with a button.
You can always hard reset-clear storage will do it, and there are apps like sk tools that will initiate a hard reset.
It happens as soon as I turn on my phone. It's the first thing that pops up so it makes it really difficult to even do anything. I'll look around for that program for the hard reset. Thank you.
Ok, saw in the title that it's the program 'start'. Before you hard reset, look in your startup folder (\windows\startup). If there's a shortcut for something called 'start.lnk', try removing it (move it to your sd card for safe-keeping). You can also see what the shortcut points to by opening it with Total Commander, using the editor.
