I kinda looked, but I couldn't find any mention of this. I am running Hero beta4 and just happen to run the tutorial. What do you know, its the Rosie UI, exactly as it appears in all those youtube videos. Except its running on my phone. I kind of thought the person in the youtube video was running Rosie.....it appears that all they were doing is running the tutorial off the Hero build.
It was stated by Haykuro that the videos were just the tutorial. He was trying to make them work for us before all the crap happened.
I installed then unistalled the herob4 build, the facebook stuff crashed and no UI and my ethics were eating away at my soul/ lol not really, kinda...idk...did xdan aplogize? i know the fake roger rom guy won't....does xda have an IRC? it should have a built in jave one...i'm gunna go find out

Myself, I kind of like the Hero build. I really really like the browser. I think a simple tap in-tap out approach to surfing works best. Some consider the lack of the zoom controls a flaw; I consider it a blessing.
Initially, there were many force closes, but after many reboots, they have mostly gone away and the phone is actually getting snappy. The personalize screen still force closes. The social apps work, except twitter.
Oh, and the browser is I guess broke...some kind of rendering error on most pages..I really don't want to re-flash

yeah, I've seen that too. Let me clarify since I obviously mis-spoke enough to cause confusion. I'm didn't mean to imply that Haykuro wasn't running Rosie, he obviously had control of the phone. I was just realizing that the Rosie demos were actually already on the Hero build. They're nice to watch.
I really like the visual bookmarks and panning tabs of this build. The rom in general is super sweet. BUT...I cannot get the browser to work. This is a major bummer. Maybe someone significantly more skilled than I will sort this out.
browser seems to be working fine for me on Beta 4.
My biggest problem with this ROM is bluetooth not working...I can't sync it with my car anymore and can't use the handsfree features in the car.
But I HATE the way the older ROMs look...the Black status bar at the top is AWESOME!

How exactly is your browser malfunctioning? Force closes or something else?
When i visit mobile pages, everything is great. But as soon as I try to visit a desktop version of a site, then it gives an error. The error message is actually part of the page, and it says:This page contains the following errors: error on line 219 column 26.....xmlparseEntityRef: no name.
The page has been loaded up until first error.
actually, the browser seems to work on wi-fi. But on edge, it will give you the parsing error when loading non-mobile pages. That is odd. I have checked APN settings and they seem ok.
Man, I loathe having to go back to an earlier ROM, I so love the way your history looks in this browser.

I dunno if this is a ROM isolated thing, (I'm running NYG Pro) but I find that if I leave a video running in the background after selecting it under the "Photos and Videos" tab, regardless of the video duration, it'll give me a boost with anything 2D until I close Album. Manilla 2D and TaskFacade run a lot sexier now. The only thing that seems to kill it is Audio Manager. lol As soon as I run it, it goes back to normal and the only way to get that extra framerate is to restart Album with the same or another video and leave it running again.
Sorry if this had been posted before, but is there anyway we might be able to incorporate the, what seems to be, "2D driver" in startup like what taskfacade has to do? Just like a crippled version of Album for the speed? I don't know exactly what's giving it the boost here, but this seems pretty important if it's not isolated to the ROM I'm running.
I just tried this with my Kaiser and it works consistently on a Hyperdragon 3 ROM from November, so it seems to be fairly universal. I don't know how or why this works, but I'd sure like to see someone figure it out and find a way to have it work all the time.
Edit: I assume this has something to do with the video drivers that may or may not actually exist, and with the built-in video playback somehow turning on 2D acceleration, but I'm no programmer so I can't really go into detail. The more I play with this, though, the more excited I am to have smooth response in Manila and iContact and things of that sort, and the more I hope someone can find a way to build this into a ROM or make it a standalone program.
confirmed here too, now this is wierd
It's not so weird
During early days on UIQ, we also found the phone UI works a lot faster when there's a background Video running / being played .. seems to be the same factor.
Hi all,
actually, its nothing to do specifically with M2D ...
actually, been noticing that with everything ... say, PointUI Home 2 for example , .. leave your video on paused state, and try playing around the Home ... seems a marvel ...
but then, its been there since my UIQ3 days, on my P990i ... graphics performance boost up whilst leaving a video running ....
i hope this will trigger some wise minds in here ...
Yeah actually tried this trick with a Gameboy emulator. Works pretty well. Eliminates page tearing so that's pretty cool. Here's to hoping something gets done with this!
Will doing this kill the battery life?
It may affect it slightly since it is still running a program. As far as i can tell there isn't much of a change in the real world though.
From what I have read, attempted to understand, and barely grasp, this likely works because it opens up the 3D and 2D driver sets so that programs that don't have the "call" code built in but support 3D and 2D drivers are able to utilize them then.
Not 100%, but it seems like this is where the driver developement is stuck at in general, with finding out how to get all programs to use the drivers all the time even if the drivers are not native.
I have very limited knowledge of all of those, though, and half the driver stuff goes over my head, but what I have grasped is that they don't seem to have, to use an analogy, the "phone number" for the drivers, but some programs do and some do not type thing.

maybe we should just have pause a video and add it as an exlusive itme in the task mager and always have it running lol Im gonna try this
You should change the name of this thread to somthing taht will atract more attention liek "possible graphics driver fix!" cause honestly I think you discovered somthing very usefuil if someone made a cut down version of this app and just had a pause short medai clip in the backround this could be a step closer to our driver solution or mabe THE solution and honestly I think this is amazing, and I think if you changed the titl of this thread it would attract A LOT of more atention
Could it be the Q7200 having some sort of speed step running and playing a clip is bringing it up to its default max of 400 MHz...? Which would simply speed up everything but consume more battery...
If it really enables drivers to run, that would be simply amazing and some of the smart heads here should take a deeper look into it.
Very interesting find!
Maybe its also worth posting in more general forum? not in Kaiser Rom development?
maybe try to send a message to someone from the HTCclassaction team?
Hi, isn't this video player actually a separate app that is spawned from manila?
Any handy people out there who could make this happen with a .cab? (install small video player, make it autostart and run an included, very small, video, all while running invincibly/exlusively in the background?)

Doubt its the processor stepping up left this active all day no difference in battery consumption or little if any. This is a cool find hope it leads somewhere for 'cursed users'.

Seems to speed things up on this rom as well. Does seem more than a placebo effect.

Sorry, I have to agree with placebo effect, I am using PDA X Beta II and Manila was pretty speedy before trying this, tried it and saw no difference, real or imagined.
I don't really know if anyone has had a similar issue but I figured I'd try to at least not feel completely alone. Without fail, if I navigate to www.grantland.com on my phone it will "load" about halfway and then crash back to home. I've found the stock browser com.android.browser does this on some sites but obviously not all. I'm guessing that it is something that their website is attempting to do that the browser doesn't exactly like. It also happens on Dolphin HD. I've attempted to logcat the error, but either I'm not trying to capture the right information or it just doesn't want to give it to me.
I've tried "logcat WebCore:V *:S" "logcat browser:V *:S" and "logcat com.android.browser". I believe the first two are aiming to capture any javascript that is happening. At any rate the only information I could get is on the last version. I've posted that on pastebin here http://pastebin.com/rjgDHT4e. There is a longer version of the logcat, but this was about the only worthwhile information I could find.
I'm running AOKP Milestone 6 Build 5. It has also happened on CM9.1 R7 and R8
From what I've read it could be just a general bug in the android browser
I *hope* it happens to everyone else and not just me, but there's always the chance that I'm completely off the reservation and one step closer to breaking my phone.
Looks like it crashed in libIMGegl.so -- so, at least for me under Boat Browser it seems to be pretty low level.
It doesn't surprise me that most browsers behave the same as most reuse the sysyem-supplied rendering engines.

I kinda figured that on the browsers. Same thing with SMS apps. Basically just an add on to the base app for more functionality or options. I presume since it is fairly low level its just something I'll have to deal with unless I figure out a way to delve in to that. Experience in that area isn't high. Always looking to learn though.

Same thing happens here https://viewmypaycheck.intuit.com/ lol
While not all website operators are receptive, reminding them that mobile access is critical to their business and there are more Android devices out there than iPhones sometimes precipitates change.
Not sure many of you use Memonic, but I like its feature set and its web interface.
The Android app, though, not so much...it is slow. And to add insult to injury, it crashes on JellyBean.
After many users asking for a fix, and no fix coming our way, I've patched the damn thing so that it doesn't crash on JB anymore.
It's not ideal because it's a hack rather than a clean software update, meaning it may have a slow memory leak...oh, well. Better than (literally) nothing.
Get it here
Thanks

I'm moving from Catch (which was a great app and service, too bad it's closing) and was excited with Memonic with its desktop version, but couldn't get the android app running, now I know why... thanks for the patch! Fingers crossed they will have this fixed.
You're welcome!
Just so you know, I also patched their chrome extension.
It's quite sad really because they offer a clipboard service that does exactly what I need better than any other one but they don't seem very interested in maintaining their software...
Thanks
I was so glad, after your fix the Memonic App runs! But now it crashes when I'm opening the notes.
So sad:crying:
Hi all
Hopefully this is not another "multitasking" thread regarding Sense ROMs.
I run Viper 2.1.0 and generally I am very happy with the multitasking. I rarely notice apps that I am actively using closing down without my say-so. The only slight frustration I have is with the HTC web browser. I do like it - it's super smooth - but it also seems so aggressive at "closing" background tabs that so often you flick between them to find it's having to reload. Also a bit annoying that it sometimes doesn't seem to remember where you were on the page.
This is sometimes just annoying but can be especially bad if a website has a "pop-up" window for you to fill stuff out on and then when you're done with that and go back to the previous page it's having to reload and perhaps lose some entered data.
Long story short - do we have any control over the memory management within apps like the HTC browser? Or is this simply too low-level?
Thanks
James
P.S. If a moderator could fix my fat-fingered attempt to spell "Browser" in the thread title I would appreciate it. I am not expecting them to permanently fix my fat-fingered nature...

You should be able to edit it, by going to Edit and Advanced.
But for the original question, most browsers (including Chrome Beta on CM10.1) reload tabs when not in use. It doesn't always happen, but it also occurs when you have other apps open other than the browser as well, which is probably why the browser gets less RAM and focuses that RAM on a single (or two) tabs.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong though, but that seems to be how it works for me.

You are quite correct, sir. Thank you.
And perhaps you are correct on the other statement - I have tried other browsers and just felt the HTC one is a bit more hasty in killing background tabs.
mine is full of jank. Pages take forever to load even on mobile sites. if you touch before its finished loading there is a huge drop in frame rate. Flick scrolling looks terrible.
Actually a lot of google apps seem to be dropping frame rates for me. Coming from the z3c and didnt have this problem.
Yes, the Google Apps seem to be particularly bad for some reason. I'm glad someone else is noticing this. I was playing with my wife's Nexus 5 earlier and while not as snappy, it's definitely a lot smooth than the S6.
Search the Play store for "Chrome Samsung" and download the support library.
Haha, wtf! Thanks for the link. I've never head of this support library before. Runs better now, but not all smooth.
For me the support library fixed nothing.
It's not just you. There was even a thread on General but people started comparing with ip6 and a mod closed it (looks like just only comparisons where s6 wins are allowed). This is important and should not be silenced in order to get a fix.
My old nexus 4 scrolls perfect while my s6 do not.
Installed it
hope it will fix the problem
I had this problem. Now it is gone. How did I fix it? Rooted and using adaway. Sorry if this isn't the answer you want to hear. There is a pretty significant issue with javascript it seems.
I used the ad blocker in Javelin browser and it was also satisfactory without root. Don't really like javelin as a browser though
I just installed it and the performance in chrome seems way better, thanks!
I've found unchecking javascript under site settings in Chrome makes things a lot smoother. I know this probably isn't a solution for all but it's enough for me.
i installed ad blocker plus non rooted and used the proxy set up. runs a lot better now that its blocking the ads.
will try the support library now
the library didnt help much. loading ads seem to be the problem

Yes javascript is the problem but unchecking it breaks other things. It should be optimized not deactivated.
