can any one help in installation through a windows based computer

dark_prince,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333116&highlight=Linux

does this mean we can eventually get android on the tornado?

No. Android require 128 mb of ram

I don't think so.
Yesterday I ran Android on my development board with 64mb ram.
But I think the tornado is too slow for this. My board had 400mhz it made no fun to use.

This news are years old, and have been posted 1000 times before, next time use the search feature of the forum.

It does run.

Tornado is fast enough, really. Menu changes very quick. The problem is key/joystick mappings.

Overclocking HTC Touch

don't know if this has been asked, but....
I know there is a overclocking util (BatteryStatus) for the older 200Mhz Touch.
But I got the CDMA HTC Touch (MP6900 ??) with the 400Mhz speed cpu, and the "BateryStatus" util does not work on it... actually it craped out the phone many times tonight... had to do many hard resets!! Crap !!
So.... is there a overclocking util for this version (runing windows mobile pro 6) any one know ???
thanks
Dweeb
Can't be done. A search would have told you that.

Why would you want to overclock it anyway? The battery usage would be increased and you would probably shorten the lifespan of the device....these things aint cheap you know
400 MHz in a pocket device like these is easily fast enough!
dont know if i agree with that... windows mobile isn't the best operating system because it's sloppy. so we need faster pocketpc's in all honesty.
even 400mhz isn't fast enough.
i'm also curious if its possible to squeeze just a little extra out of it (safely).
i love how my Touch works and how it's setup with windows mobile 6 and now this Manila 2D interface... but it's just always been slow. Even straight out of the box. I recently lost my phone and got a new one... Opened up the brand new one and it's just as slow as my other one.
i made registry tweaks too to increase ram usage and all those good things yo u can do there. no good in my opinion too slow for 2008... 2009 now.
great hardware. poor software. want to compensate for that by making the good hardware even better...

I heard XDA has most of the roms for "all" wm phone also uni roms. use the search engine found at the top under " search ". I have downloaded a "Touch" but forgot where they are located cos im a downloader, not a note writer

Android on Polaris/Orbit2

Howdee,
I'm _really_ interested in this one and over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383695 it does not seem as if anybody would tackle the Orbit2 anytime soon...
Therefore, does anybody know how to get Android running on the Polaris/Orbit2 and or can point me into the right direction as how to create images for this device? Would anybody be interested in teaming up and putting some effort into this and try to get Andoid running on our device?
There ist already a thread.

Also, Android will be released in the not too distant future... You might want to wait for a fully working distro for the Polaris...

Thanks for the update. Would you know when this will be (or where I can get info on this?)
As far as I know manufacturers plan to release Android phones before september... also Google stated that they'll release the 1.0 source when the first phone hits the market...
Also the recent demo videos show even more of the OS, and I'd say it somewhere near pre-beta or closed beta testing... and there's the second round of the ADC...
For what the day of the actual release will be no one knows... my estimation is around september-october...

Thanks again! ;-)
Do you think Android will stably run on the Polaris anyways? I might be wrong here, but doesn't this depend on the SDK actually supporting the Polaris? I figure that e.g. there will be a ton of drivers missing...
The SKD and the real Android distro are and will be 2 different things.
It doesn't realy matter on which device you can port the SDK to, it'll stay the SDK and won't be a fully functional Android distro... Android will be able to run on any device that has a 200 MHz processor, 32 MB Flash memory and 32 MB RAM, and I doubt that the SDK is capeable of running whith these parameters.
So don't waste your time whith the SDK (unless you're writing apps for Android).
Also the first implemented drivers for Android are the drivers for the MSM 7200 chipset, so we can expect a boost in overall performance for a change.

256MB RAM for Uni - Is it Possible?

Hi!
I have upgraded my Uni with 128MB RAM. I understand that there is extra provision for additional RAM on UNI. Can anybody confirm that the two 64MB RAM chips from Blue Angel can be used on the free space available on Uni and can it be upgraded to 256MB RAM.
Feed back and guidance needed in this respect.
Regards,
Haque
People seem to be saying it's not possible. That 128MB is the maximum. However I remember being around in the forum when people were saying you couldn't upgrade to 128MB and others found a way to do this.
I think this would need a reply from someone who knows the hardware better. (Me, I'm still wondering what the two blank spaces could be used for... and for when someone builds a small GPS chip that can be plugged somewhere inside my Uni!!... dream on!).

Those blank spaces are for GPS chip, which HTC didn't include. You can install the chips but it will not work because a radio rom with GPS FW has never been released for Uni.

Damn, I saw that Tomal replied and hoped that I will come to this thread and he'll say something along the lines of 'Yes, we successfully installed 2 128Mb RAM chips and I am testing them now with a new ROM, will let you all know how it went and offer an upgrade to people who want to get one'
Even my Elf can pinpoint my location on Google Maps, my Uni can't. Outrageous
Some time ago I have a chat conversation with one russian guy (Mo3ulla) and he has 256 RAM on the Uni (bga chips from notebook) and running Windows CE (custom port, never comes to public), so it seems it's possible, but not for public
A light!!
Well,
If that is actually true there is hope that can be done!!
Hope someone can publish this soon!
I´ll ask mo3ulla
Thanks for the tip,
Interesting reading this thread - especially this post
I don't know if the guys are still around - it was only 18 months ago.
Well i would think someone will get the way around to get it done .....

May be you are right.
But if something is not published publicly then it may not be fully true....just my thought.
Mamaich did the original work on patching the Kernel to allow access to the 128mb ram, if bigger chips are available for the two slots then there is no reason why the memory can't be further upgraded, it would however require another kernel update to allow access to the extra memory.
The same goes for the GPS slot, if someone was willing to install the GPS chip and patch the radio stack, there's no reason why the Uni couldn't have a GPS chip.
The only problem you have is that the Uni has been around for far too long now and all the Guru's have moved on to other devices.
Try convincing someone to spend months patching an old device to have the features already available in newer devices............ you would be better inserting a new mainboard into the Uni chasis........
Cheers,
Beasty
Thanks for your clarification Beasty!
Well, I would love to convince a master to do this hard task, just want to know who can be a candidate.
And on the other hand we should rise a nice donation so we can encourage him!
I offer myself to rise the money to convince him/her
So any recomendation is welcome!
Later I´ll set up a new thread for the donation in case this makes any positive progress.
Cheers,
I'd certainly donate towards anyone getting GPS inside my Uni if it helped. However, I think as Beasty says, I don't think it's going to be money, but someones time.
Time is not a problem as long as somebody really want to go deep in it
I can wait the longest as it takes and I´ll be just a happy pacient Uni user!
$ can incentivate
Let´s how all this move forwards...
You will be hard pushed to find a candidate willing to take on this task for you.
There are not many developers here who are capable of both the hardware and software modifications required.
Don't get me wrong, there are some very good devs in these forums, but this sort of mod requires a lot of low level hardware and software knowledge.
Your best chance if you really are serious about trying to find someone to do this is head over to Darkforces and make a post there.
Really you would need Mamaich, Ivan or Helmi (to mention a few.....if you can track them down) as they are all more than capable of what you want.
To be honest though, you probably have more chance of getting HTC to do it for you..............
It would still be easier to port a new mainboard into the Uni housing (more than enough room in there for most of the current devices on the market to fit............... perhaps you should also consider this as it is a more practical move than trying to upgrade a dying device.
I love my Uni as much as the rest of you guys here, but there comes a point when you just have to move on.
Over the years we have patched the hell out of the kernel and drivers for the Uni and to be honest the code is quite a mess now, far from optimised.
Good luck and keep this thread updated with any news you have on progressing this issue as I would be very interested if you found someone willing to take on this challenge.
I know first hand how messy all the drivers and patched oem files and XIP are in the Uni and it will be a monumentous task.
Cheers,
Beasty
Beasty is right, as we all know, but if we take in account what was written in Orb's thread about Uni vs new devices there are a lot of us that are not satisfied with the performance/cost of the latest, me included.
How can it be possible to release a device and i can't even play avi with it?
Runing the same apps on both devices, I can't notice a real improvement in terms of speed. memory we know that's short...
My HD is nice, but as I told, I would prefer the Uni with 256, even being a lot bigger.
Unfortunately we (Uni) suffer from oldness, and we will have to move on...

I agree the current Qualcomm chipsets are not up to par, mainly down to driver issues rather than the hardware. Don't forget our Uni's run off an Intel XScale and not a Qualcomm.
1st quarter of next year should see some decent releases of the new hardware Tegra and Snapdragon with 12mp cams, 1 ghz cpus and video recording at 720p, perhaps then the Uni will finally have a decent replacement.
I must say though that my Rhodium is no slug, the keyboard is nice and big more than enough ram (GPS is functional, though not great it does the job satisfactorily) I can't really say I miss the Uni that much after switching over to the Rhodium................ each to their own.
Hold out till next year and be tempted with the new hardware.
Cheers,
Beasty
Does the Qualcomm have a serial or USB port (USB host)? I have no idea but I know that much older chips did have (Intel StrongArm in HP Jornada for example - but was not used and also PXA250 have it). If yes and if it can be found somewhere on the PCB of the UNI, then this can be used for GPS connection, or something else. Just an idea....

Both the Qualcomm and XScale can support USB host, they just require the correct drivers, the functions are available just need to be accessed via a driver. The problem the Uni has is that it has no built in GPS Chip, there is a placeholder on the mobo for a GPS chip, it was just never added. There were rumours that some of the very early Uni's (G3) had a chip but not activated.......... Personally I have never seen proof of this.
You can still use external GPS on Uni (as many do) via BT or USB/Serial connection. You do not need USB Host service for this function.
Cheers,
Beasty

TouchFlow 3D On MEGA

Is it possible to get TF3D running on the MEGA for too?
I had installed it before, but TF3D start in an endless loop.
I dont think so, Mega doesnt support 3D, missing OpenGL driver (if i am not wrong)
Chriss, indeed don't do this.....there are some people who have it on similar devices (not Mega). Requires a lot of development.
Only solution for now wait till somebody has it done and reports it working....

i have installed also touchFlo3D and it start but not see well

Man I have to say this sounds great. It's good to finally see some more progress for this device. I hope that you can make a guide for overclocking the processor and that tf3d will be available soon
Correct me , but with only coping files and overclocking a few MHz above wouldn't do the job .... from all i've read , it seem that HARDWARELY Mega could't support TF3D , if i'm wrong then it's only a matter of time before some1 make our dream(1 of 2)* come true !
P.S. *our other dream is Android runnin on Mega ;]]

Have you noticed real performance improvement? Any impact on apps like TomTom?

Hi.
Yes it is completely faster, also in TouchFlo and Menu, Messages, Internet, ecc, ecc.
In my mega no extra heat of the phone. The only things is that the battery drains a little bit before...but life is same good...but with more speed increase
very nice team i wish i could see andriod and touch flo 3d on my mega
Yes, it is possible to run TF3D on Mega.
I have bought my Mega a month ago, and it is coming with TF3D from the operator or manufacturer.
It is running pretty good and fast. Battery lasts 4-5 days.
I think that these "Mega"s, that are produced last year are coming with TF3D and newer ROM from the manufacturer.
Could you post some pics with TF3D running and also the specs of your MEGA??
Because it is impossible to run TF3D with the original processor and RAM.

[Q] Is it possible for a WinCE MIPS Device to Load up a MIPS Android?

Let's see. I have a Casio E-750, an Old PocketPC which has a 200mhz NEC VR4131 MIPS Processor and has a 32mb of RAM and 32mb of ROM and could load almost any --big-- CF card (I actually tried loading up an 8GB CF card and it worked.) Around the year 2000-2003, I see sites rising up telling that you can actually Boot a Linux in your old PocketPC during those days, People made that possible using a bootloader. CyaCE. It's a boot loader almost similar to GRUB, i think. Though I'm not so sure if it actually erases your ROM and replaces it with the bootloader.
There's an Android System Image for MIPS floating around the Android SDK.
Around Year 2010 (correct me if i'm wrong) one of you guys made HARET and made Booting Android possible to all ARM based Windows Mobile Devices.
I came up with the idea of Using CyaCE (Since it's the only bootloader for MIPS) to use it as a bootloader for this little old thing I have and just put up the Android MIPS System Image on it.
Is it POSSIBLE for such a thing to happen that this Old.Old Thing here Could ever load Android?
Yes, probably the very much older versions that has less demanding hardware requirements, especially memory requirements.
http://www.netmite.com/android/mydroid/development/pdk/docs/system_requirements.html
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...e-minimum-hardware-specifications-for-android
Your MIPS will probably work with the earlier versions of Android, but I think the performance will suffer, especially if you will be running it off the CF card.
Good luck with your experiment.
Sorry for reviving.
Found the good old files by internet wayback machine sites and all, Across some Japanese Websites back and forth.
After testing some few stuffs on it, Nah it fails at first attempt to launch the bootloader.
This thing aint compatible with the bootloader either way. Can't even ask those old dev's for it either.
Got no choice but to give it up then.
Either way, I got a new phone (HTC Inspire 4G). I've been installing ROM's on it and it's quite performing good. My Cassiopeia's Standing by on my desk these days. xD
Anyway, Thanks for the help.
