How to change 'PROGRAM' and 'STORAGE' memory size?? - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys,
Does anyone know how to change the 'program' and 'storage' memory size.
I know you can change it a little by making the pagepool smaller, but now I am having like 60MB free of storage memory, but only 12MB of program memory.
It would be very nice if I was able to change those sizes! I probably have to edit some hex value (just like changing pagepool), but I have no idea with ones.
I have looked all over the internet, but could find anything usefull. Am probably using the wrong search text...
Thanks in advance

hey, that's really a nice idea. I would be interested too in this. I am using WM6.
Thanks

There are programs around for RAM to storage, but not the other way around. ROM cooks have hacked nk.exe to get more RAM, but minimal amounts (check out ANRYL, kaiser section)

you can't REALLY have more ram. RAM and Storage are different wafers.. RAM is read as fast as possible.. "virtually" reading RAM from Storage is pointless since it reads as fast as it would read from storage.

help about EX-ROM

Please I need some help
I want to know how to edit the EXROM and modify it and maybe remove it
Please in details and if I remove it am I going to gain more space in RAM
Another question why RAM in jam is 57 instead of 64 as they said in the commercial and in the web site
Bad English right
Hi.
First of all:
You won't get any more RAM by removing ExtROM.
It is possible to gain more "Storage" by changing amount of ExtROM. (Your device's persistent memory [ROM] is divided into "Storage" and ExtROM).
I'd recommend you, not to tamper with ExtROM too much.
The reason you see less than 64MB of RAM is simple. System uses small amount all the time. But that's not that much.
If you want your problems with memory to go away forever, just but a nice SD memory card.
Then, you should install all programs in "Storage Card", and you always have planty of RAM and ROM free.
As for 64MB of RAM... don't cry about that. If you'd have 128MB, your device would have nearly 2 times shorter battery standby time.
Notice that newer devices (especially WM2005 ones) come with 64MB RAM not 128. That's because they come with much more ROM, and try using ROM to store all data. That makes them save energy, which is neded to keep RAM alive.
Have fun.

Program vs Storage RAM

Short Story:
Is there a way to change what my HTC device thinks is program only RAM vs Storage only?
Long Story:
I have an HTC Titan, but thats not important as this is a standard question. I couldn't find a similar question or answer by searching the forums, but if someone has a better search keyword for me to use, post it here too.
Is there a way to expand what the device thinks is Program memory? I'm trying to install CoD to test the Mogul (even if you post that it doesnt work I still like to know my original question). I have about 20mb left of "program" memory, 130mb left of "storage", and a 512micro sd empty (minor IE cache and attachments on it). I'm of course assuming that the ROM just makes those setting in the RAM and its not two seperate chips.
from wm5 ms changed the way memory is handled / works
pda's used to use flash for the rom
and ram devived between application and storage
but as batt death would delete peoples storage
and flash becomming dirt cheap
they changed it so ram was only! used
for application memory
and flash was used for storage
so the slider to devive oneself is no longer present
there are tools at least for some devices which make a ramdisk for
the pda which take some of the application memory and let one
install stuff on it you
can check buzzdev.net to see if that tool DiscOnChip is out for your devices
So they are fundamentally different memory types and chips?
yes
you can compare it with pc memory vs. pc harddisk
hhmm is that a new spam tactics ?
to post spam inside threads to make deleting harder?
Fair enough...thanks...shame it turned out harder then I though
.....that is a very interesting spam tatic...never seen that...*wonders off to find an mod*
yes it's harder after wm5 but with buzzdev.net's chipondisk program it handle it
not sure how many devices it support as it was mainly made for old devices
where they only have very limited storage space
and "alot" of memory because they were made for the old wm2003 and prev
memory deviding system
It just seems to me that, while yes I like storage but you give us a SD slot so why make only 47mb Program and 162mb Storage....

Boosting the Memory???

Hey guys,
My internal memory is low. And I'm having a popup message every 5 seconds of the day telling me my memory is critically low... It's driving me insane! I need a solution here. That's why I turn to you guys!
I would appreciate the heads up about finding more storage space. What I'm looking for all together is a program that will "trick" my htc wizard to think the sd card is actaully the internal storage memory. I want my memory to read something like this (example);
Storage
Total: 2000MB
In use: 50MB
Free: 1950MB
(Again, the total of 2000MB (2GB) is the actual SD card being read as the main memory.)
...instead of reading what usually is shown on the memory screen (below).
I am sure there is a program out there that can do this. I've seen something like that a while ago but chose not to use it since it wasn't any use to me.
Anyways, I'd really like a heads up...

doesn't work like that man... wish it did what rom are you running? whatever it is, reflash or flash something else... you are not out of memory, wm is just being stupid...
hehe it not possible to do it like that.
it's not the same as your computer, but try to convert part of your HDD to ram ( VIRTUAL MEMORY never act like real RAM ) .
the best way is to install everything on an SD card and to flash to the lightest ROM u'll find here .
WRONG!
Hey guys,
I'm telling you it exists. I've even marked it on a text file. I just don't remember what file that is... I think I got it from one of those site like freewareppc.com.
Anyways, like I said I wrote it on a text file in a computer; but which? My comp? My laptop? My girlfirend's laptop? My cousin's computer in Florida???
Heck, for the life of me I don't remember... But I will find it! When I do, I'll be waiting for appologies aside from the thank you's and financial "contributions" to have the prog! (Joking on that last one! )
Really guys, I'll be contributing something big when I DO find it!
Keep you all posted!
Phil
PS - I hope you keep ME posted if any of you find something like that...
PSS- If I remember marking it on a text file, could it have been a registry edit and not a plugin / prog? Hmmm, I wonder.

..maybe you need to think for a while...
you gave us screen, that tells, that you have almost clean, fresh booted machine.
try to see difference between STORAGE mem and STORAGE CARD.
try to measure speed difference, and overall gain ;/.
msg 'bout lack of storage MEM, while you have whole 45 mb storage MEM free is absurd.
check your hklm.init
check your startup(with startup manager(search on xda forum for that one..)),
check storage card space,
check your notifications,
try to figure out, which active(yet hidden/tsr) soft is making that "lack of space" message,
if you cannot handle software you are using...
there's no point in making storage card storage memory, anyway.
yet.
there is a little freeware called cleartemp that works just fine I had the same problem on my hermes after using this prog ended up with 20 MB of free memory I think this problem comes from installing programs that can not be completely uninstalled and just mess up ur phone
Thanks for the heads up...
Hey guys,
Thanks for the heads up on ways to free space and little progs that clear a lot of unused memory. But I am still convinced this program exists. I will find it and then I'll get my thanks!
Hey nothin, that is just an example screen. That's not my actual screen. I have less than a mb available in my storage.
And as mohen pointed out, it can be done on a computer. Shrink that technology and it'll be able to be applied to a ppc!

Yeah, I tried it. It creates another drive (like storage folder) that appears in your file manager called ramdisk. I used the reg file in the program to put the temp internet files and cookies to this drive. It works, my internet files are being stored here. We need some benchmark program to really determine if it speeds anything up.
About Ramdisk...
Hey guys,
So let me get this straight, this will actually use ram from my sd card and make it "virtual" storage memory? Or is it another program that cleans up the temp files???
Not sure if this is what I am looking for but I'm willing to give it a shot...
By the way, can anyone tell me how to install this file??? I'd really like to get it running!
Phil
Hello?
Anybody there...?
I'm still trying to figure out how to install this program. Anyone up to give me some pointers please???
Phil
what's the point to put the internet files cache on the virtual drive ?
u can put it on the SD card as well, i'm confused
Okay here's the deal...
Alright,
Now I've just about exhausted any and all resources I had to try and find this program / registry edit that turns my SD card into internal memory...
Here's my promise to the one that can find me this; 30$. The person that finds me this gets 30$. I will personally send it to you or transfer via email or maybe even paypal. I will also make a donation to this forum.
I can't stress enough how I had this on my phone back in January and after modding my phone so many times, it's gone. I'm pleading with you guys to try and find me this solution.
Phil
PS - You can write it on this thread or PM me with your finding

UC capable and SD integrated hard drive...

Hey guys,
I've been looking for something I had on my wizard a while back. I had something that made my SD card appear as if it was the wizard's hard drive. I remember when I would look at memory, it would show under internal memory something like 2000mb as opposed to the standard 50mb. I've searched all around and was never able to find that again.
At the same time, I was wondering if UC capable roms are not the same thing...? Anyone care to explain exactly what that means?
Thanks,
Phil

That would be WM5torage
WM5torage
Don't really think that WM5torage is what Cphil1 is looking for. WM5torage simply makes your Wizard's SD card visible as would a "pen drive" from your PC. It doesn't "tag on" the card's larger memory to the smaller internal one - which if I understand correctly, is what Cphil1 is after.
Cheers.
Well...
So far, no luck...
I still haven't found that app. I'm very disappointed that I flashed my roms without remembering that I had something like that!
Anyways, I still would like to know what is the complete definition of UC capable. Would it be a way to store program files on the storage card all the while running it from the ppc?
Phil
UC
Far as I know, and that's very limited indeed, UC stands for User-Customisable (Customised). ROMs that are UC capable auto-install a predefined set of applicatons located on one's SD. So basically, one can preconfigure the stuff one wants to have installed and "newer" ROMs would automatically read the list and install apps accordingly.
Hope that helps.

[Q] RAM Manager? (edit: Heap size)

I recently had a couple of issues with an app called "TouchDraw". The problem was that, on occasion, the app would fail to load certain images because of low memory, and would insert placeholders instead.
This happened even though I have over a gig of free RAM available.
So I contacted the app developer, to see if it was a bug or something, but it turns out (according to them anyway) that android by default only allows apps to use up to a maximum of like 256mb of RAM, no matter how much RAM is actually available. They also said there was nothing they could do about this from their end, and the only way round it was to root.
Fortunately, I have my Note rooted already, so:
Is there a universally recommended RAM management app that I should be using? I have looked and found a few, but I'm unsure on the differences. A lot of them were reviewed based on phones and difference uses... Seemed safer to ask first.
Thanks!
Edit: actually it turns out its the heap size I need to change. Seems there is a tool called "vm heap tool" that does this... But only on older devices with small heap sizes. Need to find an alternative!
any recommendations?

Hmm... from what I can see, all that does is close down programs quicker so that I have more free RAM?
I have plenty of free ram, its just that android limits the amount of memory that an app can use. Apparently theres a way around this if you are rooted?
Unless I'm misunderstanding something.
Edit: Plus, minfree seems to be designed for phones? The help/guides I can find for it all seem to deal in tiny amounts of ram (relative to the 2gigs I have)
Edit 2: Hmm, it would seem that I need to increase my heap size... the line "android:largeHeap = true" keeps coming up when I search for the answer to this question. I will have to investigate further!
Edit 3: seems that value is for app debs only perhaps. There was a tool that did what I needed to the default heap values (vm heap tool) but it only supports much smaller heap sizes. Will have to look for an alternative!

Edit 4: Well turns out I managed to do it.. I think. I modified my build.prop, and changed my heap from 256mb to 320mb. Seems to have done the trick! At least, this app hasnt had any more ram issues since.

I am noob to android, I have heap size 265mb on galaxy note 10.1, gt-8020, android 4.1.2. not rooted.
I need for photo mate r2 application heap size of minimum 512mb to be able to save edited raw photos to jpg without that application is useless, developer say that heap size is problem and indeed with smaller files (editing) saving is working
can somebody please point to recent root procedure and how to edit my build.prop and change my heap to 512mb
thanks
