Hello All,
I went from Haykuru's latest release to JF ADP15 a couple of days ago. Did a complete wipe, updated to the latest radio from HTC and now I can no longer send SMS (text) messages. I can receive them fine. I am using T-Mobile in the US.
Error:

I've tried:
downgrading the radio......... no fix
upgrading the radio again..... no fix
wiping the phone again......... no fix
searching all forums............. no fix
I think the what has happened is that the SMS number on my SIM card was somehow corrupted during the radio update. Is there a way to update this number again without calling CC. I don't want to deal with the whole "you're running a hacked phone" speech.
Thanks again!
Did a test using my wife's SIM card in my G1 and was able to send text messages. Therefore, it is my SIM card. It must have lost its' SMS settings somehow during the radio upgrade. (No idea how)
Is there any other way to update SMS data on the SIM using the G1 or is CC the only option?
Try rebooting normally.
That happens to me randomly, All I gotta do is reboot it and it will send it just fine. See if they receive the text. In my experience it tells me that it was undelivered and yet the person still got the text.
If you are still having issues go to:
Settings...wireless controls...mobile networks...access point names... you should see T-mobile click on it and look to see if you have your settings in there for sms ... unfortunately I am in Canada and dont have the settings, you can call t-mobile and they will help you or under the mobile network settings select network operators and it should find T-mobile ... select it and then try your texting again.
paid your bill?
Try to insert your SIM card in your wife's phone and see what happens.

Serious. I've gone a few months late before. They canceled outgoing calls and text messages but Incoming works just fine.

I was gonna ask him this Q but I didn't expect someone would complain and ask for help about txt while he can't make phone calls !
Thats just DIAG 101
Ever since I started messing with my phone I would randomly lose the ability to send/recieve texts and even calls sometimes. A reboot fixes that every time.
I recently upgraded to JF ADP1.5 and started noticing this same issue (of not being able to send SMS messages). Took Candroid's advice and checked out a virgin T-Mobile G1 and the settings. . . it has ~ 22 APNs listed where mine only has one.
Perhaps this is the issue?
EDIT: Swapped SIMs in the phone and the issue seemed to follow my SIM card. With a different SIM in my JF ADP1.5 phone, SMS messages are sent just fine.
Sounds like there's an account provisioning error with your SIM. A quick call to your provider should sort this out. They should be able to fix this immediately. Worst case scenario they'll send you a new SIM.
I had this problem and called T-Mobile. They sent me a text with the settings the phone should use. Haven't had problems since. Seems like the settings might have gotten lost in your case. A text from them should sort it out.
All fixed . . .
> Bring up the Dialer and enter (*#*#4636#*#*)
> Testing -> Phone information
> Scroll down to find SMSC
> Enter (+12063130004)
> Press Update
> Press Home
> Send yourself a text to verify that everything works
*Side Note*: I had actually been to this page a couple of days ago and pressed Update when the field was blank . . . so completely my fault
Hello, had the same problem, only on WM6.5. For me, it worked when I've changed in Advanced Network -> SMS Service -> SMS over: GPRS to GSM.
Can i ask for help?
I cannot send sms but can receive sms and call, i can even make a call pefectly.
Ive tried inserting my sim to different units but still cannot send sms.
Its been months since this happens my sim is a fixed plan offered by my company and i am the only one that has this problem.
Can someone pls help me...thanks
You not going to get any help. This phone is long disconnected

I have a strange problem with my phone... in brief, sometimes when i get to make a call I get the notification above "The operation failed" before initiating the call. of course in this situation if somebody calls me, they will hear that my phone is ringing, but in fact it's not ringing on my side, and I can't know if somebody phoned me.
a soft reset solves the problem, and I can again make calls without problems... until my phone decides to go still without informing me... the only thing that makes me notice is when I get no calls for like 12 hours or more... I then check by calling somebody and get this "Operation failed" damned notification -sometimes only- (which means my phone doesn't go still after a regular period.
at the beginning of this year I asked a question on the Energy thread:

but some times it turns into this shape:
a soft-reset fixes the normal icon.
however, I tried different Radios on different Energy ROMs but still the same tiny problem... anybody got a though about it?
ROM: Energy Phoenix2 Dec21
Radio: Raph 1.17.25.9

I don't see an icon change now, but the problem is more than an icon change anyway.
I tried the following, but the problem is still random (not regular):
flashing a stock ROM
flashing another Radio
trying another SIM of another provider
but the problem is still the same...
I recently tried removing the Security Unlock, and now the phone goes still sometimes, which means sometimes the call drops before initiating, but I don't get the "Operation failed" notification any more.
again, a soft reset solves the problem
I can't trust my phone now, especially is that I use it for my work and school... which means my colleagues will be angry with me if they call me but I don't answer.
I would really appreciate any help!
Device: HTC Touch Pro T7272

PS I apologize if you think that this problem is not worth starting a new thread in this development forum.

I made a screen shot of this notification and I'm posting it here
Happy New Year to everybody
I feel your pain. I had a very similar problem with my Raphael (on TAEL ROM at time), only difference was anyone making incoming calls did not get ring tone they got phone off message from network. I would get same error message as your image if making call (sms worked sometimes but not always when calls would not)
My problem would occur once a day usually early hours of morning & once resolved once would probably be ok fro rest of day !
I could toggle radio off/on to fix it.
Tried different Settings SIMs, Networks, ROMs, Radios, HardSPL to no avail. I started using another phone for a few days & when I went back to the Raphael for a little playing around it was working 100% normally without issue & still is today (currently acting as modem for internet via GPRS).
Hope you have same luck as me as I found no answers here or googling !
thank you very much for your input.
what I did is to set my calls to forward to my landline phone after 10 seconds of ringing, just to be notified of calls when my phone is in this strange mood... however, I still can't be notified when somebody pays me a missed call, which happens with me often from my family due to that I live abroad.
I understand this is not a common problem, but once it happens, it becomes a pain in the a§.
the guarantee is supposed to expire after 3 months, but I still don't know how to explain this problem to them, since it's not happening on a regular time line.
I hope I'm not going to have to send it for repairing, as I believe this is a problem that can be solved easily... I just need to be pointed in the right direction
Use another phone for 5 days with current SIM, reflash SPL,ROM, radio ROM, give it a break for the 5 days then load it up & see what happens !
If you seill get no joy get it in to service before it is too late.
take it in when it is playing up, push for a replacement rather than repair as short warranty would not give you fair chance to evaluate repair & most repairs shops would only flash ROM as first step unless fortunate enough to encounter issues during short test after ROM flash.
Good luck, mines still working fine at moment !
I am having a very annoying problem with my t-mobile service. My plan has three lines. I have a mt4g, my wife has a mt4g and my daughter has a mt slide. My plan has unlimited voice/text/web/android etc.... for some reason over the last few days we cannot send or receive picture mms. if we attempt to send a picture via text to anyone they receive a blank message. if someone attempts to send us pictures via text we receive the text with an icon that says "download" but when we click it nothing happens and we can't see the picture. I have taken out my sim card and placed it into my nexus one and the problem still remains. I put my sim card in an old mt3g, Samsung vibrant, and a g1 and the problem still remains. I called technical support for t-mobile and they have no clue what I am talking about and kept me on the phone for over an hour. I then drove to a t-mobile store and wasted 2 hours of my time. They gave me a new sim card and witnessed that the issue still remains. This problem is very weird and annoying. I was just curious if there is anyone else out there in t-mobile world who has also experienced this issue? They gave me a trouble ticket two days ago and still haven't been able to fix any of my lines. You would think that since this is happening on three separate phone numbers they would realize its a network issue and not my devices... HELP?
Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names. Check to make sure TmobileData is selected and not TelKila. For some reason the phone switches the APN and breaks MMS.

I deleted the TelKila when i first got the phone. i'm on the correct apn as i stated it is happening on all of my phones not just the mt4g
That's been happening off and on for a few days. I just ask the person to email me the pic instead. Any phone can mms a pic to an email address, just use the email address instead of a phone#. MMS seems to be a little wonky the last week or so, about the same time the winter storms hit the south.
Try the chat with a rep option. Much more convenient.
I'm having the same thing. Sorta glad it's not my phone. I get this.

i've tried all options its not the phone its the service...it is happening on all the lines on my cell phone plan. that's separate phone numbers in different parts of the state (nc) so it's not simply a settings issue its a tmo issue. i have a issue ticket with tmo and they call me daily updating me but the issue has still not been resolved

I have to say that is pretty awesome. Go T-mo!
don't mean to bring up an old thread. But since I was hoping to hear what happened to the OP. I'm having the same issue today. It was working fine a few days ago.
I can't receive mms pictures on my MT4G.
I'm also wondering how often this issue comes up. Thanks in advance for any info.

I randomly got this voicemail icon in my notification bar last week. I've used google voice for years now, and I've never switched back n forth or anything. I deactivated my google voice today to see if i could manually delete it, but I'm goign to have to go through 2+years of voicemails to even get to my new ones i think (for the built in vzw voicemails).
anyway, anyone know an alt solution to this....notice the date on the voicemail too. wtf is that all about?

i sure wish there was. i don't think vzw gives that option, surprisingly. but if they even did, i'm sure they'd charge for it
thx for the reply though
aw i finally got it. for some dumbass reason, i thought all my voicemails were somehow cached on vzw side (ya i know..just realized how stupid that sounds). anyway deactivated gvoice & deleted quite a few voicemails until i got to my new one.
sorry for thread hijackin but i have the exact same problem; except its not with voice mail, its with SMS.
I got it when i bought an SMS-ticket for a bus-ride, thing is i sent an sms to a number and was suposed to get an sms back from another number confirming that i bought the ticket and some serial numbers and stuff in it, but i cant find it in my inbox. Although, i have 1 new sms with a red little 1 like the pic, and i have 1 new SMS in the notification bar thingy up top...
at the moment, i have no idea how to fix this, and i've done some reading but cant find any solution. i only have 2400 sms in my inbox atm which should be quite low and not violate some 9300+ bug or whatever that is...
halp pritty plox.
If you are using a custom rom, you might want to back it up using ClocworksMod and then flash the phone back with with Odin3 to stock rom and see if it fixes the problem...............
Did the voicemail message say "Hai it's me! I've built a time machine and travelled back to 1969 to send you a voicemail!!11!. Kthxbai"?

that'll prolly do it. but ahem, i got no custom rom, got 2.2 official, rooted it, fixed some nice theme, some nice apps etc... so any other guess on how to fix it?
discovered that if i delete the message about gettin an sms in the notification bar up top it actually goes away, but if i then enter my sms inbox that still has a red little icon with a 1 in it and then enter a new sms i get the notification about having the sms that i cant read, and if i try to enter the sms thru the notification bar it just takes me to an empty new sms ... just gets wierder :/....
It took me a lot of Googling, but I finally found the fix for the annoying issue of outbound SMSs never working, even with alternatives such as ChompSMS and Handcent.

Error messages that indicate this problem:-"Message not sent" in notification bar after attempting to send a message from the Messaging app. "Failed" listed under the message.
-"Send failed" message by ChompSMS whenever trying to send a message.
-"Message not sent" error given by Handcent.
-00 or refresh error when *#*#4636#*#* is opened from the dialer and you go into Phone information and his Refresh.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Cause:The SIM card for the phone has a corrupted SMSC number. From Wikipedia, "A Short Message Service Center (SMSC) is a network element in the mobile telephone network which delivers SMS messages."
Or the ROM does not correctly read the data. In my case, I could not send messages even when flashed to stock.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Fixes:-Fix for Messaging app is easy. Simply open up Messaging, hit menu, and choose Settings. Change the field for "Message centre" to your carrier's number. A search on Google for the message centre for your carrier will usually give good results. A search for AT&T's revealed this page.
-Fix for ChompSMS, Handcent, and other 3rd party apps:
As these usually lack a message centre field, we must delve into the deep, dark settings of the phone. Go into the dialer of the Phone app and enter the code: *#*#INFO#*#* (synonymous with *#*#4636#*#* ). Hit Phone information. At the bottom here, you will see SMSC: and a text box. This is where the SMSC number must go.
HOWEVER, the number for the SMSC must first be in hexadecimal PDU format. To convert, take the original number (in this example, I will use AT&T's +13123149810) and put it in the conversion here. The characters you will need are the characters beginning on the second line all the way all to the pair of 11s that follow a zero.
Here are some example conversions:
Code:
+13123149810-> 07913121139418F011
+447785016005-> 079144775810065011
+4531300000-> 0691541303000011
The numbers will appear longer than this, but you just cut it off at the 011 ending.
This is the number that will go into the SMSC: field in the aforementioned steps. Then, hit update. Viola, Handcent and ChompSMS should now work just fine

Sorry to bump a thread, but my issue is relevant(and I didn't feel like PMing you, as others may benefit).
Anyway, I've had some errors with sending SMS. First time I tried this fix I thought "Great, finally I can send SMS again. Now I won't have to buy a new phone after all." Now here's my problem.
I press update next to the input field. Upon opening the testing app again it has cut-off the last two digits. I also usually need to restart after updating, then I can send a few SMS. After a while, it seems to re-read the corrupted SMS center number and it stops working again(and force me to reboot again).
Strange thing is, the encoded SMSC number is exactly as long as one of your example number. Here's the number for my SMS center: 07913121139418F011
Any thoughts?
EDIT: Oh, and this happens on the Samsung stock rom as well. So not a Cyanogenmod issue, I think.
did you try this method first?

you put in the number BEFORE pressing update right? and what testing app?
**also if this is an error with a corrupted SMSC then it may be fixed by getting a new sim card. as the SMSC is on the sim.
What TRussello said, I think that if it keeps re-reading the wrong number you may need to visit the store for a new SIM.

Well, I assumed it was a corrupt SIM-card since that's what the cause is according to the original post. Seems unlikely however, as other phones(like my old Symbian phone) reads the number just fine.
Entering *#*#4636#*#* starts a "Testing" app, according to the recent app run list in both TouchWiz and Cyanogenmod.
The strange thing is that it does already show the correct number in the SMS app. In the field where I'm to input the converted number(the "Testing" app) it's always empty upon start. And yeah, I'm entering the number before pressing update.
The SIM card is only about a half year old so I don't think that's it.
Might be some strange Android bug, but I've never seen anyone else with issues like this.
EDIT: Did away with the stock SMS app, downloaded GO SMS and set the SMS center manually. Then activated the mode where GO SMS retrieves my SMS(if the stock app is removed). Working like a champ, so far.
Maybe mention that it needs a restart before it starts working!! (did not work before restart)
I did this with Vodafone India number and my smsc converted to pdu ended in '411' (079119895800454411), so it is not restricted to 011.
Thanks a lot for this effort in putting together this information
Love you man, solved my problem !

It seems to show up semi-consistently when doing a profile update (possibly PRL as well). Google it and you'll find some posts on the Sprint community forums too.

How about this little number?
This pops up unexpectedly before and after I "rooted" mine.
VSNCP Error 5-GW Reject
There is a stupid stupid bug with the Photon Q that causes this.
Dial ##DATA# on your phone, go to "Data Profile" and look at your username. It should be [email protected] but instead theres an extra .com at the end.
Thats what causes the error (and also apparently stops you from receiving MMS). You have to contact Sprint customer service to get a special code to allow you to edit your username in the Data Profile. That fixed it for me.

Throwing in my two cents:
This seems to fix the 8-GW Reject error but not the 5. FYI, if you call them and fix the extra ".com" keep all the information. Whenever you get a new profile (initiated by you or Sprint) the bad username in the the Profile will come back and have to fix it again.
Called sprint a couple times about this. They told me it was a hardware problem and the phone had to be replaced! I don't believe that for a second but couldn't get any real information out of them. Another rumor is it's caused by some problem connecting to 4g though that is also unconfirmed.

I'll stick with my Q lol. Until then I hope this phone can upgrade to Jelly within the rooted phone. Can't install moto updates as of right now. (Deodexd w/ TWRP)
I continue to receive this error occasionally (every couple days). I'm on the latest moto update, my data username is fine, and I do not have any MMS problems ever since I fixed the MMS on Wifi issue (while on Wifi, MMS attachments report unable to send until mobile data is enabled - sending a picture via gmail to self over wifi fixes this somehow).
It doesn't seem to cause any issues, however I read reports that calls won't come in until it is cleared from the notification bar, so try to notice it and clear it when you can.
FYI, the code that Sprint gives you when you need to edit something under the ##3282# (##DATA#) menu is called your MSL or Master Subsidy Lock code. This is unique to your phone so if you get it, keep it written down somewhere. If you're on this forum, you will likely need it at some point.
Edit: Another note... I've also seen reports that this error has to do with LTE network handshake, and for me that makes sense because my subdivision unfortunately is in a dead spot in the middle of an LTE coverage area. So I'm sure I'm getting faint signals causing the handshake to attempt and fail. If you're not in an LTE coverage area, you can switch to CDMA only mode under Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode. That should help.
Woke up to the phone with a VSNCP Registration Response / Error 3 no P-GW available.
I checked ##DATA# and my username email address is correct. Voice and data both worked with the error.
Also I use an Airave due to such a poor service area.
Edit:
Woke up next day and new VSNCP Registration Response / Error 5: P-GW Reject
