[Resolved] Anyone know how to get rid of this icon in my notification bar - General Questions and Answers

For a DroidX (rooted..but that's it):
I randomly got this voicemail icon in my notification bar last week. I've used google voice for years now, and I've never switched back n forth or anything. I deactivated my google voice today to see if i could manually delete it, but I'm goign to have to go through 2+years of voicemails to even get to my new ones i think (for the built in vzw voicemails).
anyway, anyone know an alt solution to this....notice the date on the voicemail too. wtf is that all about?

I had a voicemail 'sneak' through not long ago, but I just dialed in and deleted it like normal. Is there a way to manage them through the vzw website?

i sure wish there was. i don't think vzw gives that option, surprisingly. but if they even did, i'm sure they'd charge for it
thx for the reply though

aw i finally got it. for some dumbass reason, i thought all my voicemails were somehow cached on vzw side (ya i know..just realized how stupid that sounds). anyway deactivated gvoice & deleted quite a few voicemails until i got to my new one.

sorry for thread hijackin but i have the exact same problem; except its not with voice mail, its with SMS.
I got it when i bought an SMS-ticket for a bus-ride, thing is i sent an sms to a number and was suposed to get an sms back from another number confirming that i bought the ticket and some serial numbers and stuff in it, but i cant find it in my inbox. Although, i have 1 new sms with a red little 1 like the pic, and i have 1 new SMS in the notification bar thingy up top...
at the moment, i have no idea how to fix this, and i've done some reading but cant find any solution. i only have 2400 sms in my inbox atm which should be quite low and not violate some 9300+ bug or whatever that is...
halp pritty plox.

If you are using a custom rom, you might want to back it up using ClocworksMod and then flash the phone back with with Odin3 to stock rom and see if it fixes the problem...............

Did the voicemail message say "Hai it's me! I've built a time machine and travelled back to 1969 to send you a voicemail!!11!. Kthxbai"?

that'll prolly do it. but ahem, i got no custom rom, got 2.2 official, rooted it, fixed some nice theme, some nice apps etc... so any other guess on how to fix it?

discovered that if i delete the message about gettin an sms in the notification bar up top it actually goes away, but if i then enter my sms inbox that still has a red little icon with a 1 in it and then enter a new sms i get the notification about having the sms that i cant read, and if i try to enter the sms thru the notification bar it just takes me to an empty new sms ... just gets wierder :/....

[Q] Can't Download or Send Pictures from MMS Texts

I am having a very annoying problem with my t-mobile service. My plan has three lines. I have a mt4g, my wife has a mt4g and my daughter has a mt slide. My plan has unlimited voice/text/web/android etc.... for some reason over the last few days we cannot send or receive picture mms. if we attempt to send a picture via text to anyone they receive a blank message. if someone attempts to send us pictures via text we receive the text with an icon that says "download" but when we click it nothing happens and we can't see the picture. I have taken out my sim card and placed it into my nexus one and the problem still remains. I put my sim card in an old mt3g, Samsung vibrant, and a g1 and the problem still remains. I called technical support for t-mobile and they have no clue what I am talking about and kept me on the phone for over an hour. I then drove to a t-mobile store and wasted 2 hours of my time. They gave me a new sim card and witnessed that the issue still remains. This problem is very weird and annoying. I was just curious if there is anyone else out there in t-mobile world who has also experienced this issue? They gave me a trouble ticket two days ago and still haven't been able to fix any of my lines. You would think that since this is happening on three separate phone numbers they would realize its a network issue and not my devices... HELP?
Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names. Check to make sure TmobileData is selected and not TelKila. For some reason the phone switches the APN and breaks MMS.

I deleted the TelKila when i first got the phone. i'm on the correct apn as i stated it is happening on all of my phones not just the mt4g
That's been happening off and on for a few days. I just ask the person to email me the pic instead. Any phone can mms a pic to an email address, just use the email address instead of a phone#. MMS seems to be a little wonky the last week or so, about the same time the winter storms hit the south.
Try the chat with a rep option. Much more convenient.
I'm having the same thing. Sorta glad it's not my phone. I get this.

i've tried all options its not the phone its the service...it is happening on all the lines on my cell phone plan. that's separate phone numbers in different parts of the state (nc) so it's not simply a settings issue its a tmo issue. i have a issue ticket with tmo and they call me daily updating me but the issue has still not been resolved

don't mean to bring up an old thread. But since I was hoping to hear what happened to the OP. I'm having the same issue today. It was working fine a few days ago.
I can't receive mms pictures on my MT4G.
I'm also wondering how often this issue comes up. Thanks in advance for any info.

My google voice doesn't work ...

Ive had it working for almost a year on my captivate.. But all my voice mails go to att vmail.. Went into the setting and made sure it was use google voice. No dice .. uninstalled and re installed more that 5 times no luck.,.
Stock everything /rom and all. only rooted..
I'm wondering if something is going on with Google Voice:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127929
I have been having the above problem for a couple of weeks now. I have tried everything and it still makes me go through setup on every reboot. I also don't think that inbox sync is working even if I don't reboot. I had a message in there today that I didn't see until I opened the app.
Mine seems to sync fine. Opens fine and all. Don't have to setup after reboot.
The problem is its not using Google voice as my voice mail.. But att junk. I tried activating and all. All it does when u call and i don't answer is tell u"call cannot be completed as dialed." and no voice mail att or Google.

I was having the same problem until I activated the google voice service by typing in the number that pinhead listed above. Works like a charm now!!
If anybody was having my issue-- I did a full wipe and started over. That seems to have fixed it.
I did type my number. And when.i did that's when i lostensibly all voice mail.. Does the call cannot be completed as dialed..

You just have to set up your call forwarding so that it goes to your google voice number. It's not your phone's number. Go here:
https://www.google.com/voice/#phones
Then you will see add phone, and the voicemail setup box that was posted will come up. Just dial the number as you see it from your phone and it sets up call forwarding. It can't all be done from your phone.

Text Message Notification getting cut short

Hey group!
I posted this topic several days back on the general forums and got no response. I have the standard whistle notification as my text message notification and it doesnt always complete the full whistle. Has anyone else experienced this at all? t is very odd because sometimes it will perfrom the whistle all the way as it should but most of the time it is cut short one way or another. I wasnt sure if I was the only one this was happening to or not, and if someone might have an idea what may be going on with this.
Thanks in advance for the assistance!
You're not the only one. I had it happen but since I loaded beans I haven't heard my notification get cut short.
Somebody posted a specific fix for this back a little bit.
I didn't save the info as I've never had the problem (I use a really really long tone to make sure I hear it in a noisy work environment & it always plays it 100%), but if you search enough you should find the fix posted. I actually doubled the length of the tone I use with an audio editing program.
I use Handcent for texting, but I have no idea if this has anything to do with mine working correctly.
This happens with certain contacts because when you receive 200 messages its by default set to delete a message automatically to have room for the new ones coming in..(this is why your not seeing this happen all the time it's only happening with people you frequently message) So when the message comes in the sound cuts off because it's deleting a message and that seems to be interfering with it.. If you delete the thread of the person that's messaging you when this happens,it shouldn't happen anymore... It's an annoying bug.. Also you can go into your default messaging app and Press menu-settings and increase the text message limit..or uncheck delete old messages.. This should help

+1 ... I figured this out for myself after I went to Verizon and got a warranty replacement. They really need to fix this, it does get annoying after awhile. Either erase your messages or raise the message limit.
+1 oh wow thanks for the tip. I noticed my phone doing this and so was my wife's. It makes sense that it happens when I was texting her because we text the most to each other. I feel kinda stupid that it was so simple though lol

Do you even need a message limit at all on this phone?
I realize that it comes already set to 200, but is the limit even necessary on such a powerful device?
On my old Droid Incredible, I would let my message box get really full, with individual threads reaching into the thousands. Also the Droid Incredible had a problem where it would take forever to delete text messages. Sometimes it would take a couple hours of the phone being locked up, just to delete a couple hundred. It was then that I realized I needed to put a limit on them. This phone doesn't seem to have the same problem. It deletes threads pretty fast, and with all the extra ram and processing speed I feel like opening the messaging app, even if it had a couple thousand messages, wouldn't be a big deal.

The max amount of texts in one thread is 5000. But I guess for most people that would take them through a few months without having to worry about erasing their msgs to hear the ring tone.

[Q] End of call phone behavior

Hello,
Has anyone found a way to change the Samsung Galaxy S III behavior at the end of a call? Mine typically reverts the phone to a locked state, which is pretty annoying when you were just on a short call and need to make another call. Am I missing a setting? I would think being on a call would appear as any other activity, unless maybe you are on a call that exceeds the timeout you have set for lock security.
Thanks!
That's actually been the behavior I'm used to from my Incredible when taking a call when already locked or the timeout occurs when I haven't input anything to the phone for too long during a call, so it seemed the same for the Galaxy S III.
- ooofest
I've been using on call end from the play store. Im having a problem where at the end of a call it lags and shows the persons picture with a text message button on the bottom and a phone to recall them and it was getting quite annoying so now I just have it go straight to home

Thanks for the replies.
I'll have to give On Call End a try.
I'm pretty sure I've experienced this situation even on outgoing calls. I was hoping there was a secret setting somewhere. I was used to my Droid 2 where the phone would go back to the screen you were on right before you made your call....i.e., if you made a call from your Favorites screen, it would go back to that screen. I'd really like to have that type of functionality, but maybe it's not possible. I'm guessing this is more a function of Touch Wiz than ICS, right?
Thanks again!
I've never had it go to lock screen after a call, but it's never been locked when I recieved one. I am assuming it started locked before the call came in?
Typically I end up back in whatever I was doing on call end, though sometimes it just aggravatingly sits at the dialer screen and forces me to manually go back to what I was doing before the call interrupted me.
If I initiate the call, 100% of the time it dumps me to the dialer screen when the call is over.
Stock rom, rooted.

Yea my droid x and razr would go bac to what I was doing. I've never had it go to my lockscreen and I've answered calls when it was locked. I just have on call end take me to my homescreen because otherwise ill get this screen if I dont after I end a call and then I can wait a few seconds for it to go away or I can push back which is annoying.

Do any of the ROMS change this behavior or give you more options for controlling it? The On End Call seems a little better to me, but I'd still like to go back to screen I was actually on before.

Hangouts MMS [FIXED-I think]

There was a big hangouts update today (you can get it on androidpolice.com). I just downloaded it and tested it, but didnt have much time to test it. It adds the APN settings in the hangouts settings and i'm pretty sure its working now. If anyone has time to test it out while on wifi, please leave a comment saying what APN you used and if it works or not.
Seems fixed to me too... I am on wifi at work, and mms goes through now with default APN... sorry didn't have more time to test.
Also seems to be fixed for me on default APN. I have many different APN names though, like 20+, some of them are exactly the same.
Sweet! Fixed it for me, sends relatively fast now, rather than 5 minutes or not at all! Back to Hangouts for me!
btw what do ppl here use for SMS backups? I used to use GoBackup but it doesn't work too well on this phone.
Hey guys I just received this phone yesterday, and have not been able to send MMS. This happened on my old phone too. I am almost always on WiFi. What do I need to do to fix the issue? Thanks!

Yes, it automatically installed yesterday. A clue to the issue may be that when I tried sending a message of Textra, it said "MMS Denied - MMS subscriber not enabled." I'm on the More Everything Plan with 12 GB of shared data.

i'm pretty sure you need data (not wifi, mobile data) to send MMS. when connected to wifi, i see 4G enable itself then i receive a picture message.

Yes I did. I turned it on, and the problem still persists. I'm going to consult a Verizon rep and see if I can get it fixed.
EDIT: Apparently my dad had put a bunch of blocks on my phone several years ago, that's why I was having problems. Called the rep and he unblocked everything.
