Is it me or is the internet in the build is slower I used to have rc33 and It was good now it seems to go slower whats up with that?
YES I UPDATE THE RADIO
My browser has been faster in all the 1.5 builds. So not sure why yours would be slower. Try clearing the browser cache.
Same here!
I'v had the same problem since i updated, a page that would load in maybe a minute, now takes at least 3 minutes to load.
BeetleGeuse BeetleGeuse BeetleGeuse!!! Sorry, but the internet has been much, much faster than RC33 ever was.
SAME WITH ME Paper Android were ure caches on ure sd?
I just wanna kno why it takes longer now
Internet is faster for me in 1.5. Not tremendously so but still noticeable, especially tethered.
i have the same problem, in the beggining my browser was loading pages very fast but now it seems slower, dont know the reason, i didnt allocate my cache or app to SD. AlsoI would like to know if i had more free space in the internal memory i could run my applications faster ?
Thanks
For a couple weeks before 1.5, I lost 3G entirely (only had Edge and WiFi). Now that I updated from RC33 to 1.5, I got it back!
No
My caches are not on my SD card but clearing them doesn't seem to help.
My Internet runs better now and I'm even keeping internet in places where I would spotty internet before. You can load Rc33 run an internet speed test and then load 1.5 and run the same test and check your results.
I'm running JF 1.5 and my friend is running The Dude's 1.5... We both were on the same wifi network, be both cleared our cache and history and went to the same sites (sites we had never loaded before). His was noticably faster.
Speed tests show my connection is the same, its just my browser takes longer to render pages. The only difference between his G1 and mine is that he has apps on his SD. (But I doubth this will make a difference.)
Any ideas?
i was using the build JF 1.5 until i realized my browser was loading the page very slowly then i wonder was because i had only 11Mb available space, so i couldnt wait to fix that problem and i decided to move to app2sd, finally i got "success" but not really when i tried to install app from the market i took a time to installed and besides the system was unstable, probably was cause my sd is 2Gb and i guess is class 4 dont know actually, so then i decided to reflash my phone to JF1.5...and started to install applications, now i have 31Mb available space, and my browser is running fast as it should be...

I was running The Dude's 1.5 prior to upgrading to JF 1.5, and when I did upgrade, I noticed that my data signal was much worse, specifically in low signal areas like my workplace. So I went back to the radio that originally came with Haykuro's builds (the one that ends in .23 rather than .26I) and noticed a significant improvement. Note that I am in an EDGE only area, no 3G, so this may be part of the reason.

Has anyone noticed issues with browsing on opera? The first couple of web pages load fine but then after clicking a few links and seeing the pages, subsequent links just freeze, sometimes after a while you do get some kind of a "page cannot be displayed message" but not always, most of the times it just sits there.
Exiting the browser and relaunching it seems to work but the same problem comes up after browsing a few pages.
This seems to only happen whilst using GPRS/EDGE/3G/HSDPA on O2 UK, WiFi is fine!
Your input would be highly appreciated!
Same Problem to my Device. HTC Touch Pro on o2 Germany.
It seems that there is a Problem with switching from UMTS to HSDPA. The Raphael only activates HSDPA when its really needed.
First I tought it is a problem with HSUPA because in Germany o2 don't have HSUPA at the moment. So I only activated HSDPA. But the only way to fix the problem with Opera I found:
Deactivate HSDPA/HSUPA. Only use UMTS (3G).
Its Way slower, but Opera needs time to display a webpage, so that the speed increasement is only noticable when downloading files...
Its not a very nice solution, but the only way I found until now.
Sorry for my poor english...
Daniel
Nice one Daniel, I'll give this a try. It seems that only O2 UK has this problem, I will test with other networks and post my results also. Many thanks for your advice!
I can also vouch for this i'm also on o2 UK and have had my touch pro for 6 weeks and was getting so annoyed with the lousy internet browsing which was a big reason for me getting the phone in the first place. the phone was constantly freezing after 2-3-4 maybe 5 at best web pages and even then it wasn't at a consistent speed, i first thought it was the phone but no one else seemed to be complaining so then i thought it coud be the data connection settings might be incorrect being the phone isn't endorsed by o2 but couldn't find nothing wrong there so eventually like yourself i found turning off of the HSDPA/HSUPA
settings-connections-advanced network-HSDPA/HSUPA = disable
solved everything and even though i may not be getting 3.5G speeds its a lot faster then my Nokia N95 ever was at loading web pages.
I'd be interested to know how you found the performance on other networks (I've only got o2 sims so cant try another network) from what I've gathered o2 inst that great when it comes to data/speed and there 3.5g is pretty flaky I expect this is what's coursing the problem and not the phone itself

unfortunately I cannot try other networks as my SIMs are not registering anymore. However, you are right, having tested the above solution, its much better. We shouldn't have to do this, period. Have you tried only switching off HSUPA? I'm about to do the same, lets share the findings...
right, hopefully this would be the same for everyone else on O2 using the Touch Pro. Using only 3g works and setting it to only HSDPA also works. HSDPA/HSUPA is what causes the problems... Let me know if anyone else finds anything different...
Hi I've not had any issues with Opera with HSDPA/HSUPA still enabled - have you tried increasing the settings/advanced/cache size?
I increased mine to 10000kb
my problem is that Opera displays very poorly - i have to constantly zoom and drag the page around...
and the stupid soft keyboard won't stop popping up even though i thought i had disabled it (SIP settings)
and it always goes back to portrait mode - unless the keyboard is open it won't stay still!

(because it's not opera related, i got it on all browsers/ other proggies)
So my FUZE won't connect to the internet with certain programs (E.g. Internet Explorer). Everything else works fine, opera, mms, etc. When I go to IE, it immediately loads a popup and says "Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings". Any advice? My 3G speed is also terrible. I have an H icon and tested my speed and got 81kbps... Any advice on that?

I just noticed this same issue with Internet Explorer. I never see the H - only G and E(dge). I'm on the original ROM. The last registry change I did was to re-map the PTT button. Before that, IE was working and the only changes I did were the top two performance tweaks from the tweak thread here.

Same here. Absolutely horrendous speeds, usually it actually times out. I still have a Samsung BlackJack II and also a Moto V3XX and I have tested sitting right in the same location, put my SIM in each of those other two devices and go to the same websites, everything works just fine, fast and normal. Then I put my SIM back in the Fuze and it's so slow it's literally unusable.
Going to try going back to the store and getting a replacement but I am afraid this might be an issue with the ROM. But I don't want to flash to a cooked ROM in case ATT won't take it back.

Thanks much!
I noticed there are four different versions of the ATT ROM for this device. Since some people are having big data speed issues and some are happily working away, I wonder if some of the stock ROM versions have issues and others don't?

I'm not too sure because I haven't played with the stock ROM at all. I jumped on the cooked ROM band wagon and I am now using ROMeOS at the moment. Later, when I get a moment, I'll try out the Cooked ATT ROM that NATF has put together.
One of the major complains of the stock ATT ROM is that HSPDA was shut off and that only 3G was being used. I know when I get a decent H signal, the Internet is pretty snappy. This is on the ROMeOS ROM.

I had this problem. Navigate to Programs>Tools>Proxy Manager. Once there tap on "Restore Proxy" This did the trick for me.

How fast? My phone shows 3G and using Opera I got the following from DSL reports speed test:
1345 kbit/sec
0.32s latency
6.363s d/l time.again.
And that was after it forced me to do the 1MB download because it wasn't able to calculate the test at the lower file sizes.
Seems like I'm pretty much in line with other posters speeds who show the H, no?

Yup, that fixed my IE. Thanks!
And my Opera still works.
Must be an INI file or something for IE...
Right now I'm at home, so no 3G for me (Edge if I even get a signal at all usually) so I can't tell if it's (opera) slower.
Will this negatively impact tethering? Haven't tried it yet, but will soon.
I just did a bunch of testing between my Fuze and my Blackjack II for comparison. Others with the speed issues are in another thread, I posted a lengthy post with lots of test data in there. Please check it out and add to it what you can.

Where do you guys test your speed? The only DSL reports mobile speed test are up to 100k and that is too small. All the other tests I can find (anywhere) are either flash or java based and those applets never load on either Opera or IE.
I was able to get a toast blue angels test to run. Got 1809k WOOHOO. And IE works now, thanks!

Glad that did it for you. I've never tried tethering before so I'm not qualified to answer your question. Post your results when you test.

Hmm, maybe it's just me, but it really seems as if 3G speeds have been getting slower for me. I did the same test and got the same speeds as you (and occasionally, it has been falling to 500-600Kbps), but this really does seem slower than before.
One may say it's my imagination, but I have noticed it while watching Youtube. I use the HTC Youtube app and I always watch in high quality. Now I'm forced to watch in low quality simply because downloading high quality videos takes far too long (as long as 15-20 minutes depending on video length). Even the low quality videos takes quite a while to load.
To a smaller extent, web surfing has also slowed down noticeably. Unfortunately, I don't visit enough data-heavy website to be accurate about this.
I've performed numerous tests (different websites, ROMs, browsers, radios, etc), but it all turned out relatively the same. I was able to achieve higher speeds in some cases, but not significantly higher. Overall, though, it seems to me that there have been a large speed drop in AT&T's 3G.
I have problem with my Froyo Android and 2.6.25 kernel (but it was similar on .32).
I can turn ON WiFi and connect to my home network, but it has problems with loading pages (it wont load page at all most of the time, I only loaded google.cz once) and I cant even login into Google acc and Market.
My WiFi is working on notebook or other phone, but cant make it work on my Polaris and Android.
Anyone know how to fix this? Maybe some WiFi settings that Android or Cruise cant handle? Or some other fix or suggestion?
Thank you for all tips...
it wasn't kernel releated, try to change release (Fresh Froyo, Scoot's, Clemsys's)
I have tryed a few builds, but it seems to be allways the same. Wifi is connected but cant load any pages, when I restarted phone, it loads 1 page just after restart and then nothing again all the time (I cant even reload the same page again).
Its probably some settings or maybe hardare problem? I really dont know what to do or how could I test where is a problem. Probably only option is to flash WM 6.5 back and try to do something there... but still I dont know how to test if its maybe hardare problem.
So I have tryed WM 6.5 again and Wi-Fi works great there. I am glad its not hardware problem, but still it would be great to make it work on Android.
I cant access Market or sign-in account and Android is useless because of that, since USB connection also doesnt work :-/
So after I was sure WiFi is working in WM 6.5, I have tryed another Android again.
With clemsyn's RC1 build and 2.6.32 kernel I was able to at least log into Google account and access market. But WiFi is very slow only 1kB/s at max and drops a lot. I wasnt able to download Opera from market after 3hrs mainly because of disconnects. Sometimes it also crashes and show startup animation.
Now I know problem is in Android OS only, but I still dont know what to do to fix it or if it can be fixed at all (if not I have to flash WM back again :-/).
So noone has an idea?
I would be glad for any tips, because I tryed everything I found, but Internet is still dead :-/
Also with Radio 1.58.21.23 you still have that problem?
Yes, even with this radio ( 1.58.21.23) it remains exactly the same. I didnt re-flash system after latest radio update, because I dont have enough battery left for flash, so I hope it wont mind.
I will re-flash soon anyway because I am trying different setups all the time now
Only little difference seems to be between 2.6.32. and 2.6.25 kernels. While in .25 it never loads any page, in .32 I am able to load google homepage after a lot of trying (but nothing else).
I am allways downloading these throught Atools, because I dont know how to prepare different POLAIMG.NBH by myself, so I only tested two versions available there.
I dont know if it doesnt load page at all or if its sooo slow that loading timeouts. Is there any utlity where I could see if packets are being send or received? On the other hand it doesnt solve anything anyway.
But it can connect to WiFi site and with .32 it even transfer google page sometimes, so it somehow "works" and transfers some packets occasionally.
Sad thing is, that there arent much settings in Android system, so I cant play with that. I also tryed different settings on my WiFi router, but it didnt help at all.
if you use adb and ping google did you have time out?
I never used adb, but I cant find any console or link to shell in my ROM.
Should I install Android SDK and adb driver in Win or can I access it somehow in my phone?
I have downloaded "Better Terminal Emulator Pro" and "Terminal Emulator" and installed from SD card.
In command line I write
Code:
su
ping 74.125.87.104
after a few tries where I get 100% packet loss, I manage to get better results:
Code:
--- 74.125.87.104 ping statistics ---
72 packets transmitted, 9 packets received, 87% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 158.338/328.306/1143.300 ms
similar on other website, also only after a few tries:
Code:
--- 77.75.72.3 ping statistics ---
51 packets transmitted, 3 packets received, 94% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 1003.263/1090.418/1141.900 ms
Seems to be a problem with the connection with router...
How many devices are connected to it?
Do all devices work good?
Router itself isn't a problem. Only 1 or 2 devices are connected to it and they are all mine (notebook and mobile phone).
I thought it may be a problem, that Android port for Polaris cant handle my settings, so I tried different settings, but it was the same.
Router works well with LG Optimus One (Froyo) and even with my Polaris, only with WM 6.5.3 ROM and of course my notebook works well too.
I wonder where could be the problem as most of Polaris users have working WiFi. I dont thinkI have any different part of hardware in it and I changed all software related things many times ROM, radio, kernel.
PS: results above are with kernel 2.6.32 I believe with 2.6.25 I would have 100% packet loss all the time. As change of kernel is only thing so far that have some impact on this issue I think it could be with some setting in there. I dont know what things can be changed in there or how I could try different versions, so I only tried three versions (two that I can select in Atools) and one that came with Eclair ROM.
So I have found where can be a problem and it rly seems to be hardware releated.
As I said before, in WM 6.5 WiFi works well, but I found its only because there is option to set "Best Wi-Fi Performance (May consume more power)" in advanced settings of WiFi.
When I turn this option off, I get similar results like in Android. Wi-Fi is very slow, so it wont even load page.
I cant find similar option in Android settings, so I want to ask if there is similar option in Android hidden somewhere or maybe some shell command or file edit, how I can change it?
try to extract wifi_levels.sh from K_K vaniljeclair and change the level.
Hi,
I set it to "extreme" and it seems to be working!!!
Thank you VERY much for all your help.
I recently came back from a two-month trip and started using my ATT sim card again. My Infuse is basically the same as when I left - Infused 2.23, no major changes.
All of a sudden my data usage has gone from an average of a couple of megabytes (at the most) a day to over ten. I only have a 200mb plan, so this is a problem.
I installed traffic monitor; unfortunately most of the data used falls under the heading of "System Traffic," which cannot be researched further. New build of Maps? Some rogue system program? I can't figure out how to find out what it is, and a google search wasn't particularly helpful.
Something is different, and I don't know what it is.
Anyone facing a similar situation or have any clues?
Start uninstalling apps and watch your usage to see which is the culprit.
Sent from my not-an-iPod
Thanks. That's a good idea, but it's all system apps, not apps I've installed. None of them are causing any trouble. I'm not even sure which are all the system apps...
Some apps I noted:
1. Quick Office Pro uses like about 20k on phone start up; not sure if it does it every time. There could be a few more apps that do this.
2. Google voice syncs itself
3. Push emails send info to server saying the link can be used
4. Maps new build could be a possible culprit (I keep mine frozen all the time now, and defreeze it only when needed)
I noticed this even on my wife's iPhone sometimes when she gets 65% usage sms (she has a 200 MB plan), and she's always on WiFi at home, and sometimes the data usage on AT&T site shows up to 20-30 MB per session. No way to track it. I tried taking it up with them, but that won't help since AT&T too does not track which app or what data it is.
Hey all, for whatever reason, android has been eating up SO much data for no apparent reason. I have all google related syncing apps disabled (google photos, google plus, etc). My data plan cycles on the 20th of every month, and according to the data usage in the settings, android OS has already used 685mb, and I've hardly even been off wifi networks much in the past few days... I'm on Marshmallow if that helps. Here's some screenshots: http://imgur.com/3taUO6t http://imgur.com/vgzv3nN http://imgur.com/7H1WXYE
I'd have posted the images directly but they wound up being huge on this page.
I've have no root data firewall installed for the past few weeks haven't really noticed much of a difference, and I went through every app in the settings (with view system apps checked) and couldn't find any clues. I have a 3GB high speed (LTE) plan, and once I go past 3GB, it simply slows down to sub 3g speeds, which is an absolute pain in the ass.
Thanks in advance
We have seen this before... the fix is usually a full Factory Data Reset and set it up clean. Not sure why, no one has been able to get a tcpdump to see what it is.
