SameProblem?!
Hello!
I'm a newbee... i want to connect a GPS 4TomTom to the USB Port.
So i don't really know, how to connect the MDA II to the USB GPS-Mouse.
I've taken an USB cable, that could charge the MDA II and build a adapter to connect the cable and the GPS Mouse in it. It won't work. I've think so already, but i've read it anywhere in the www.
So, could anybody help me with the Problem?
I've an Haicom HI-202E GPS-Mouse,
the MDA II
a soldering iron...
and a 5V Powersupply in my adapter (consists of 2 USB ports connected to each other, powersupplied with an 7805 (2A))
How can i fix it?
Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure, but i think, that wouldn't work.
The USB Specifications says that USB requires one master device to controll the slave devices. Your PC is the master device and the mda is just an slave. You won't be able to get 2 slaves talking to each other without a master.....
Stefan
cant the MDA work as an Master?
I've heard it so. But I'm not shure.
Some people gets a external HDD working on other PDA's.
I'll look and think about, but i've never found anithing an web for thet problem/solution.
I've wondered that nobody wants to connect more on the PDA...
I mean 20Gig HDD may be nice in Holliday to listen music
the tomtom software for PPC's will enable under "GPS-status - GPS" the options to select a protocol/GPS-Mouse and the connection:
Ir
BT on com6
serial on com1
com9
.
.
Serial on USB
Bluetooth GPS
so, i thought it will
Thanks for more...
Found this in another thread:

Yes, this is right. The XDA2 won't function as a USB host. You do need that backpack and a www.ratocsystems.com host card. Then it will work.
I know this becuase I'm trying to link mine up to a HDD to store loads of music in my car and use the PPC as a controller but I don't want the confounded backpack - for you though on the motorbike, only using it when you need it it sounds perfect.

The software I am using is tom tom 3 ver 3.02
I have turned the beam off

@nobody: THE MDA can ony act as slave.
BUT: For GPS you ony need a serial port. And after all USB IS a serial type of port.
Only thing you need to do is solder a cable that connects the +5v, ground, Tx and Rx of the GPS USB connector to the appropiate pins of the MDA connector . . . .
On one of the german forums (cant remember the name :-( )there is a memeber nicked 'mocki' that offers custom built cables.
Tanman, choose nmea 4800 and com 1. Make sure beams are off and also that you dont have a keyboard driver loaded. Go to the gps screen in tomtom and see if there is any bars showing for satellites. If this doesnt work or gives an error let me know.
Hi cruisin-thru
Worked a treat
what I could not find at first was 'nmea 4800' which was the name of the sat receiver
Nice one thanx a lot
Tan
Tanman, that is actually the protocol used by the receiver rather than the name/model. Glad its sorted for you.

So what you're saying is that, asl ong as the hardware is compatible with NMEA, we can use this generic driver with the correct baud spreed ?
Yes
Hi there,
I was using Mapopolis GPS software ver 3.20 on my SX-56 and it was working fine with the GPS reciever being picked up on COM 1. Suddenly one fine day, the Mapopolis software would not work at all and the phone for some reason would not detect the reciever on COM 1. I re-booted, re-installed and eventually blew my ROM and thus the phone entirely trying to work the GPS but to no avail. I kept trying since when I connect the GPS reciever even now directly to my laptop, it still works fine so I assume there is nothing wrong with the GPS unit itself!
I have just bought a new T-Mobile WM 2003 unit and after installing mapopolis on it, it still is not working on the GPS and giving me the exact same problem. I have put it on "autodetect" and it goes in a loop on the COM Ports and starts from COM3, then COM8 and then COM9 then back all over again...it does not even start from COM1...when I remove "autodetect" and set it on COM 1, it keeps saying detecting and nothing happens, I've left it like that for more than an hour!
I'm just wondering why it was working before and not anymore? Any suggestion or ideas are more than welcome! Are any program trying to block the COM1? If so, how do I get rid of them or free the COM1? I'm stuck...
Thanks.
Try to deactivate the beam of IR port.
Or take a look if the Activesync doesn't use the com port.
It you're using a IR external Keyboard deactivate it...
Bye, M.
Re: COM Problem
Sir,
You are a king!!! Just saved me from blowing up yet another fantantic PDA!!! I don't know how to thank you, it was the IR port occupying the COM and it is working great now after I disabled it!!! Just a small question for you, is it possible to fix my old PDA which I totally messed up because of re-setting etc etc.? I have the problem posted on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=11858
Thanks in advance.

tv tuner
Is it possible to use mda2 as a monitor to watch tv out of home, connecting it to an usb-tv tuner?
Re:
I doubt it since the USB-TV Tuner would require a USB port for a connect through and I do not know of PDA which have that, but then I may be wrong....
Hi all, I've problem to connect my GPS Bt receiver to the Pda.
I've an MDA pro and when I try to set port com on Bt settings only port 0 and 8 are available, but GPS software (1.50) in TT5.21 see only com7.
What I've I do to connect it?
Thank a lot..
Nobody?
Hmmm wasn't exactly buried in the search results

Hi thanks a lot for the link but I try to change com port 7 in 8 by an hex editor but when I run TT5 the port number come back in 7 and don't find any GPS receiver.
I don't know to do more..
Resolved..thankx a lot...
TT5.21 goes!!!..This morning I'm using it but after half an hour the program hang up..
May be the batery level too low?
Hi all, nothing to do, TT5.21 sometimes hang up.
I'll try to use MDA PRO with external power.
Anyone has similar issues?
Bye..
Hi all.
I followed most of the activity around here for the past 5 monsths or so, and noticed several topics about the TD's internal FM radio for possible RDS/TMC usage. All without much luck.
Recently I bought a standalone TMC adapter (Navigon Trafficbox) with mini-USB connector. However I don't seem to get the thing to function at all. iGO 8 doesn't detect it, iGO 2006 and MioMap 3.2 detect it even without plugging it is (-_-) and Navigon Mobile 7 only goes for Bluetooth adapters.
Does anyone have any experience with standalone adapters on TD, know whether the USB port is mapped to a virtual COM port (and if so: which) or how to sniff the USB port to see whether the adapter is even transmitting data?
I do not believe diamond has a usb-host service to even let devices connect via that port.
I think only a bluetooth tmc reciever is usable.
phone xda2 {unlocked}
doing an update i now find that bluetooth comms port 5 is missing from my xda 2
also gone missing is the O2 logo
I need this port to use my tomtom gps
can i load another port 5 into it?
thanks in advance
