SameProblem?!
Hello!
I'm a newbee... i want to connect a GPS 4TomTom to the USB Port.
So i don't really know, how to connect the MDA II to the USB GPS-Mouse.
I've taken an USB cable, that could charge the MDA II and build a adapter to connect the cable and the GPS Mouse in it. It won't work. I've think so already, but i've read it anywhere in the www.
So, could anybody help me with the Problem?
I've an Haicom HI-202E GPS-Mouse,
the MDA II
a soldering iron...
and a 5V Powersupply in my adapter (consists of 2 USB ports connected to each other, powersupplied with an 7805 (2A))
How can i fix it?
Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure, but i think, that wouldn't work.
The USB Specifications says that USB requires one master device to controll the slave devices. Your PC is the master device and the mda is just an slave. You won't be able to get 2 slaves talking to each other without a master.....
Stefan
cant the MDA work as an Master?
I've heard it so. But I'm not shure.
Some people gets a external HDD working on other PDA's.
I'll look and think about, but i've never found anithing an web for thet problem/solution.
I've wondered that nobody wants to connect more on the PDA...
I mean 20Gig HDD may be nice in Holliday to listen music
the tomtom software for PPC's will enable under "GPS-status - GPS" the options to select a protocol/GPS-Mouse and the connection:
Ir
BT on com6
serial on com1
com9
.
.
Serial on USB
Bluetooth GPS
so, i thought it will
Thanks for more...
Found this in another thread:

Yes, this is right. The XDA2 won't function as a USB host. You do need that backpack and a www.ratocsystems.com host card. Then it will work.
I know this becuase I'm trying to link mine up to a HDD to store loads of music in my car and use the PPC as a controller but I don't want the confounded backpack - for you though on the motorbike, only using it when you need it it sounds perfect.

Hi
I have an xda 1 & am trying to get the gps to work. I have a Haicom hi204s gps receiver & a (ic-xda-ht for 02 xda tmoble ) cable for the car.
The software I am using is tom tom 3 ver 3.02
I have turned the beam off
My settings for the gps page are Haicom GPS + com1
I am at a loss !!

@nobody: THE MDA can ony act as slave.
BUT: For GPS you ony need a serial port. And after all USB IS a serial type of port.
Only thing you need to do is solder a cable that connects the +5v, ground, Tx and Rx of the GPS USB connector to the appropiate pins of the MDA connector . . . .
On one of the german forums (cant remember the name :-( )there is a memeber nicked 'mocki' that offers custom built cables.
Tanman, choose nmea 4800 and com 1. Make sure beams are off and also that you dont have a keyboard driver loaded. Go to the gps screen in tomtom and see if there is any bars showing for satellites. If this doesnt work or gives an error let me know.
Hi cruisin-thru
Worked a treat
what I could not find at first was 'nmea 4800' which was the name of the sat receiver
Nice one thanx a lot
Tan
Tanman, that is actually the protocol used by the receiver rather than the name/model. Glad its sorted for you.

So what you're saying is that, asl ong as the hardware is compatible with NMEA, we can use this generic driver with the correct baud spreed ?
Yes
Any one know how to get an internet connection working using an ethernet to USB adaptor?
I have one of these:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=217752
& an mini-usb adaptor but, plugging it all together doesn't seem to register anything on the raphael - suggestions welcome?
I'm basically trying to get an internet connection in hotel rooms (travel a lot) where the RJ45 is free but wifi is charged (stupid but common).
Unfortunately no drivers
While Windows XP and Vista are 'Plug and Play', meaning they have a driver for practically every hardware peripheral ever devised, WinMo is not - the device you have will do you no good without a WinMo driver.
instead, I would look into getting a small travel router that would provide you WiFi. It's another thing to carry, I know, but will end up being the least problematic and most direct solution.
Thanks I feared as much - is there such thing as a generic driver for WM6 network devices that could work?
The driver that shipped is labelled ADMTek, but googling I didn't find any drivers for pocket PC or WinCE
Hi,
I am using an application on my HTC Prophet, to connect via IRDA to a bike computer, to download information on rides, routes etc.
Now, I'm looking to update my phone to a Touch Pro or SE X1, but it seems that modern phones no longer have an IRDA port...
Do you know of a way to create an IR connection from the phone, say using the mini-USB port??
For example, for modern laptops that no longer have an IR port, you can buy a USB IR.
Thanks
Paul
Nope. No native IrDA and no USB host functionality, so you can't use the external adapter. With X1 microSD SDIO IrDA adapter can be an option, but I've neer seen one available for sale.
See

for a similar discussion.
Thanks Stepw for your comments. It seems a complex topic (some phones - like the X1 don't even have a USB host connection via the mini-usb port). I was in contact with VidaOne to see if they had any ideas (they have a WM software that connects to Polar exercise devices via IR).
Since "nothing" can be done via adding hardware - given the variety of terminals -, they are looking at syncing the exercise files that are downloaded onto the PC from teh exercise device . Not quite as immediate as device -> phone, but a good second best.
I'm hoping someone here can shine a little light on this. My car's receiver is a Pioneer DEH-3100UB, which includes a USB port and is designed specifically to connect an iPod via special cable or any Class 1 USB storage device. The Pioneer will not detect the G1, as other people have discussed on a bunch of car audio and other forums. The interesting part is this: If I take the Micro SD card out of my G1 and connect it to the Pioneer via a USB SD card reader, the card is fully readable. I've tried all sorts of suggestions from enabling/disabling USB debugging, to creating a shortcut to the SD Card via AnyCut and checking off the use as mass storage device option. People are not having this difficulty with other receivers including a usb port.
Obviously I'm not looking for help with the Pioneer, but I am very curious what the heck happens when you tell the G1 to mount. What does it do that makes it differ in any way from a 'Class 1 USB device?' Is there a way to alter what the hell happens when you connect the G1?? Is the G1 not really a Class 1 USB device?
Why was rooting/JF so much easier than hooking up to my car stereo
Sounds like a driver problem. Just about any card reader you install has to have drivers of some kind. Maybe the OS on the car stereo doesn't have drivers that support the card reader built into the G1? Just a thought.
by class 1, do you mean USB 1.0 ?
coz the G1 has a USB 2.0 port. and as any usb 2.0 device, it is supposed to be backward compatible. The only issue is the speed as it will connect at the lower speed.
Just wanted you to know its not just pioneer. I have a Clarion VRX785BT, and it too cannot connect to it It makes me sad. HOPEFULLY I can get BT audio streaming working as it does support bluetooth audio...
What happens ON THE PHONE when you plug the USB cable into the Pioneer? When I connect mine, it comes up with a notification (USB Connected) and I can choose Mount which switches over to the Mass Storage driver. Have you done that? Just a suggestion, because I can't think what else it could be,

Correct. It's not always the phone. Realize that some of the world has not caught up to the fact that the G1 exists.
The G1 is a usb 2.0 device !!!
Please note: USB 1.0 or 2.0 (speed ratings) have nothing to do with the OP's issue.
Class 1 is a certain type of connection, not the speed.

The G1 only support Headset and Hands free BT profiles - neither are what you need for streaming (quality) audio over BT. We'll have to wait for a BT update with A2DP profile - The Cupcake update (if it exists) is rumored to include A2DP

This isnt going to fix this problem, but just buy a cheap auxiliary cable and mini usb to 3.5mm converter, and plug it in through the aux jack on your head unit. Thats how i play the music on my G1.
Is there a way to alter what happens on the phone when it detects a USB connection, modify the usb driver, or something else totally ridiculous to get the damn thing to work?
Hello!
I'm thinking of buying a Tablet Zenithink Z-280 C91
Just read the following in the official web of Zenithink C91:
"For now Zenithink C91 not support the built-in bluetooth, if customer need this function, They Should buy external USB bluetooth."
Zenithink
I assume that there should be a bluetooth dongle that runs in this tablet.
Anyone know any USB bluetooth dongle that works on this android tablet?
Thanks.
kinda late to the game, but maybe this will help some others-
I've tried 2 cheapo bluetooth adapters on the ZT-280 C91 on both the official GB and ICS beta ROMs. both adapters worked perfectly. they were immediately identified, toggled off/on properly, broadcasted, paired, synced, no problems at all.
the first was a generic mini USB bluetooth 2.1 adapter. I can't post outside links yet, but the part number is ADA-BTOOTHSD2 and easily found on google.
I've disassembled this adapter to transplant into my tablet to free up a port, so I'll attach some pictures of it stripped down for anyone interested in doing the same. there's plenty of usable space inside this tablet for hardware mods.
the other adapter was even more generic. the writing on the case says "Bluetooth Class 1" and the only markings on the board are BM08C1-C08-V1, which returns nothing when searched. sorry if that's useless.
shiftace: that's great idea! Could you post some photos of the adapter inside your tablet and describe where exactly did you connect it? Thanks!
Finally found a dongle that works on my Zenithink C91 Upgrade with Android 4.0.
It is this: http://www.lightinthebox.com/pt/bluetooth-dongle-adaptador-Mini-2-0_p77386.html#my_review
- I can get files from my phone to the tablet without problems.
- I can connect an external GPS receiver (Holux GPSlim 236) to the tablet, but the problem is that I can not make the GPS work with any GPS Navigation Applications. I tried the Sygic, the iGO, the NDrive and none can track satellites.
Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
Thanks.
External GPS & Bluetooth via USB
Hi,
I've got the SAME problem / question. Just bought a Zenithink ZT-280 C91 Android 4.0 10.1" tablet with USB OTG and mini USB port but looking for EXTERNAL GPS & BT that is verified to work with Android 4.0 (Linux kernal 3.x).
JTG.001, did you try using Google Maps with GPS turned ON from Android 4.0 Settings menu? How did you know that your Holux GPS (which I also have) driver s properly installed & working? Did Holux provide a Linux kernal 3.x driver?
Also, it's encouraging that you were able to get USB BT working, which tells me that USB External connected devices do work with native Android features like GPS or BT. It sounds like, however, other USB BT dongles didn't work as you said "finally working" -- which ones didn't work? I'm trying to buy 1 of these cheap BT USB 2.0 EDR dongles from eBay but not sure if Linux driver is available.
Thanks much for sharing your takeaways! I'll share mine back if I find answers too.
This dongle works in my C91 Upgrate:

Problem solved with the GPS
Finally managed to solve the problem of browsers not picking up satellites.
What I did was the following:
1 - Install the aplication Bluetooth GPS
2 - Pairing with External Bluetooth GPS antenna (mine is Holux GPSlim 236) with the Zenithink C91 Upgrade (just do it once and it is)
3 - Open the aplication "Bluetooth GPS" we have installed, check "enable gps mock provide" (this part is very important) and give it to "connect" to your external Bluetooth GPS.
Working properly with Sygic, Ndrive, iGO...
Help with internal BT transplant for ZT-280 C9
Hi Shiftace,
I purchased a ZT-280 C91 and in the spec at Amazon.com says it has internal bluetooth. I contacted the seller and he said that it's problably has a communication issue.
I tried some actions but didn't have success. I'm interested to do as you did instaling an internal BT. Can you provide me more details about how to do this?
I need to purchase the BT dongle and I want some help with the spec about the model you bought.
Thanks for your attention.
Best regards,
Alexandre.
