TMC - does it work? - Touch Diamond2, Pure Themes and Apps

It is my understanding that both touch hd and TD2 can recieve rds feeds via the fm radio. However, reading the touch hd forum informs me that the navigationprograms can not extract the information.
What about TD2? Does TMC work?

May be you could give a try to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497977
I haven't received my TD2 yet but I will try as soon as possible
... and donate if you like ;-)

Yes, TMC works with help of the app at the link above.
Tested on iGo 8.3 - TMC tunned, messeges received, everything was easy and fast.

Touch Cruise & iGo 8

iGO 8 seems to be officialy available for PDA.
I'm wondering how well iGO8 runs on our TC ? Is the display in 2D and 3D usable on our device ? (speed)
I could not find any valuable information about the TMC support in iGO 8 : How does it work ? what do you need to makes it work (additional component or internal one) ? It there a way, like TomTom, to use some Traffic info from internet or only from RDS sources ?
Without TMC Premium my point of view is that in a city like Paris, Berlin or London a GPS is useless that's why I'm very interested to know if anyone has tested it on TC before buying it.
I have only tested the beta
The beta seems to work quite nice in both 2D and 3D. Rumors say that it's advisable to use a 500Mhz+ device, but Polaris did its job very well.
You don't need any other components for the phone to run IGO 8. You would need a gooseneck for the car though.
Thanks for your feedback.
So if I do not need any other components how is working TMC in iGO 8 ??? Does it uses the internal FM/RDS of TC to get Traffic info ? If yes, is it able to get the Premium (crypted) traffic info (this in the only one valuable in my country, free TMC is useless) ?

You can't use TMC via the internal FM on the Cruise!!
Regardless of the used gps software.
TDO
All 3D apps are working just fine... until you touch the screen (there are some exceptions like pocket quake and alike...)

So, it means no TMC in iGO for cruise. Right ?
If I haven't missed something, iGO do not have services like TomTom Plus for Traffic information, conclusion : iGO 8 has no Traffic Information support on cruise (neither in TMC nor GPRS/3G).

TomTom 7.451 + Maps + TMC RDS?

Hey people,
I've had my touch pro for a few days and im LOVING it!
I installed TomTom and got me some maps, but now I was wondering if I can activate TMC via RDS of the FM Radio.. since HTC has one built-in!
TMC is the traffic radio and gives information about accidents and roadblocks etc.. it would be very useful and FREE!
Have been a big fan of tomtom for more 4 years, I never hear of tomtom and "activate TMC via RDS of the FM Radio" Tomtom does provide plus services (weather, traffic, etc...) but it costs 10$/month; however, they still not allow to run on tomtom 7 yet.
They made TMC devices for TomTom Go, and said it wasnt going to be available for the PDA (they were talking about TT6).
So im not sure.. maybe if some skilled scripter would make a script.. ill mail tomtom to ask fro more info..
If I'm not mistaken, TMC for Tomtom is downloaded via GPRS, not with RDS.

True and by the way for FM radio use you need the headset to be plugged in...
I know the chipset in our phones supports TMC but im not sure you can have both TMC and the radio features available at the same time, if not it would make sense for HTC to enable the fm radio instead as it is a saleable feature of the phone (much more so than TMC for most of their customers)

hi all,
can anybody give me the link of tomtom software and maps that i can download for free???
Thank you...
The cab can be found on the forum - do a search for TTN7 but you will have to pay for maps.
Please don't ask members for free maps unless you want to be banned from the forum.

TMC info via GPRS/G3

Seems there is no easy solution to receive TMC on many PDAs or phones. I have difficulty finding a working TMC solution for my HTC Diamond 2 with any NAV program.
There are a lot of smart guys on this forum. Why not make TMC available via a website and load it via G3/GPRS in any suitable NAV program?
-Receive TMC signals around the world and put them on a site
-Build a program for PDA that will download TMC info from site via G3/GPRS and make it available to suitable Navigation software.
This should be possible, fast, should work around the world, independent.
Anyone?????
To the best of my knowledge the whole problem is that TMC is built around dumb PNA devices with no internet connection. The FM broadcast concept works for PNA as it only picks up local relevant data and it means that the owner of the PNA does not need to subscribe to a dataprovider (phone company) just for their PNA.
You would think that PDA devices would begin to get some navigation market share and attention but you get a higher perceived product value by selling a hardware navigation device rather than navigation software (plus you prevent software theft). Navigation providers know that the big money is in selling hardware which really costs them peanuts.
However as you point out there is definitely a market for navigation incident data to be available via the internet. The obvious problem would be how the information gets onto the internet in the first place.
This has been a very unhelpful rant but I am frustrated by the same situation
Getting the TMC info on the net should not be that hard. I can receive the Dutch TMC with a simple receiver and put it on internet. If more people do that for their country or region, it would be available to anyone. It should be easy to develop a simple device which could do that all automatically.
I agree that companies want to sell hardware or a subcribtion to traffic info (like TomTom is doing with TT Live)
If there is a demand, there should be a way....
I have a touch HD and my girlfriend the touch Diamond2
We both have IGO8 working on our device with TMC. not via GPRS but with the headset.
Look at this thread and you have tmc without hardware.
And maybe you've allready found it. But maybe handy for other users.

Topaz (Diamond2, WM 6.5 Dutty R3, Igo 8.3)
Does anyone has a working solution fpr this combination?
iGO8 8.3
GJ latest Version ((6.11....)
Topaz WM 6.5 (Dutty R3)
The issue is that - on GPS Port 4 / 9600 combined with TMC Port 9 GNS GPS drops connection. When you reenable it over iGO it says Device connected but no Sattelite found (like hanging) but receiving TMC Messages ...
Also - even as Channel is set in sys.txt it doesn't use it in iGO. When using Autotuning it sees Channels with TMC but jumps over instead of staying at a tuned one - when doing it manually it us anoying (as you don't know how for it goes when you press the tuning button) and doesn'rt remember the chanel ...
