I have a windows vista 64 bit. and I've installed WMDC and my computer just won't recognize the device. It sure see's it, but it says that its an "unknown device" and then nothing happens. Any solutions?
is there a chance that your x64 Vista doesn't have all drivers? try using windows update.
if this didn't work, i'd back everything up on my device, go to Start/Control Panel/Device Manager and delete whatever it identified. restart your PC and hard-reset your fuze and try again.
oh and by the way, If i were you, i'd use Windows 7 Build 7077 instead of Vista x64

I tried everything listed above, still nothing, I can't believe two Windows based operating systems can't just hook up without problems. Why is this happening?
I have the same problem with my diamond. Just not possible to sync, so I have to use bluetooth.
It sucks though, I didn't get Bluetooth for this computer thinking I wouldn't need it. So I avoided the extra charge, but now it's coming back to bite me. But technically I still shouldn't need it if this thing would work.
Is there some sort of bluetooth adapter I can get so I can actually use bluetooth with my laptop? Or does it have to be built in?
If a ROM is replcaed and an OS is replaced, and it stil doesn't work, I would only guess it's a hardware problem.. which seems kinda odd.
I had this problem too. I found out that it was actually the USB Cable that was faulty. If you have another device with mini USB that you can try and see if the same result happens with the same USB cable.
The USB change actually worked, but it didn't sync, it opened as a mass storage device, and the WMDC didn't see it...

So I got my shiny new LG Incite at Best Buy yesterday. I knew I was getting it a while ago, so I downloaded a bunch of games and apps to load it up with as soon as possible. I get home from the store, play around with it and let it charge for a while, then I try to connect it to my computer (After installing ActiveSync 4.5 from the included disk, as well as both of the USB drivers on the disk). Windows comes up with that "found new hardware" stuff and asks where to look for the driver to install. I tell it to look on the CD, as well as the directories where the USB drivers from the disk were installed. It looks like it's working at first, but then I get this error:
(Error: "The data is invalid.")
Then it gives me the message balloon about how there was an error during installation and my new hardware may not work properly, etc. Now when I go to Device Manager, a number of things showed up with that little yellow exclamation point that I'm pretty sure were not there before, but I could be wrong:
- IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers: VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
- Network Adapters: Unknown device, WAN miniport (L2TP), WAN miniport (Network Monitor), and Windows Mobile-based Device
- Ports (COM & LPT): Communications Port (COM1)
So I tried reinstalling the drivers from a link I found in a thread on these boards (after clicking uninstall for "Windows Mobile-based Device" and having it tell me that the device is necessary to boot up the computer), but the same thing keeps happening. I also tried having ActiveSync scan for devices, but it never finds anything (Just says that USB is "available").
Please help, I really want to start putting pictures, music, and all that good stuff on my brand new phone
(btw, I'm pretty sure the problem is with the software/drivers on the computer, because when I plug in the USB cable the phone starts to charge. Other than that, nothing happens on the phone.)
If at all possible, I would try using the phone with another computer. For quite some time I was only able to sync data with my laptop and not my desktop, so I knew it was a software issue and not the phone itself.
would say it's down to
dead activesync install and no uninstalling it is not enough one have
to remove all traces of it in registry too
and it could also be an issue with usb drviers for the motherboard

Well, I'm not going to have another computer until September at least, so I really want to get it working on this computer, but I guess I could test it out on a friend's pc to see if my computer is the problem.

Know of any links or tutorials that would tell me all of the registry entries I'd have to remove?
(Sorry for the double post, but no one was replying...)
So I found my bluetooth adapter for my PC, and after I installed the proper software I could connect to my phone no problem. After that, I just used the bluetooth adapter's software to transfer files to my phone via FTP. (ActiveSync still just sat there, even when I set my phone to sync with bluetooth instead of USB, and I allowed wireless connections in ActiveSync)
So I'm glad I can finally transfer files, but I still want to get USB working. No one has any ideas at all?
(Triple post... sorry)
Ok, something happened to the bluetooth drivers and software now. I turned my computer off for the night after using bluetooth to transfer files to my phone, but when I turned on my pc today and clicked the shortcut to start the bluetooth software, I got a message saying that the program the shortcut was linking to no longer existed. Sure enough, the folder was gone from my Program Files directory. Now, every time I try to reinstall it, I get an error 183 that installation was interrupted.
So now I'm back to having no means of transferring files to my phone.
Please, any suggestions at all will be helpful to me at this point. I'm at my wits end!
Any progress on this?
I have a similar problem. I think usb sync worked on my laptop at one point, but hasn't for at least a week.
I was able to fix the problem at least temporarily by disconnecting the device, deleting it from ActiveSync and reconnecting. ActiveSync happily added it back and resynced everything. Now I can install the new Xcite ROM.
Still nothing...
Now my computer doesn't do anything at all when I plug my phone in, not even make a noise or ask about drivers. My phone, however, still recognizes that it's plugged in.
At least I got bluetooth working again, but still, USB would be nice.
It's hard to believe that out of every member on this forum, no one has even the slightest idea of where to start...
Menu - settings - connections - USB to PC.
Uncheck Enable advanced ...
OK TO ALL AND READY
I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7, and now my Fuze won't sync at all. When I plug it in, the computer detects it as a storage device, but does not recognize it as a smartphone. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Mobile Device Center, resetting the phone, etc., with no luck. Has anyone else run into this problem and know how to fix it?
are you clicking active sync on your device when you plug it in?

Yes.
I justed tested out tethering - strangely, that all works fine, both by USB and Bluetooth, as does using the Fuze as an external drive. Just can't sync.
Well, weird, it works now. After trying for ages with resets and reboots, etc., etc., this time when I plugged it in it worked. I'm not sure I did anything different.
I believe if you have Windows 7 Pro or higher (Ultimate) there is a virtualization option for Windows XP, where you should be able to run any type of application that is 100% same as Windows XP. That way you can work with the instructions for WinXP. Hope that helps!
Hi
My diamond 2 completely refuses to be recognised by windows 7 64 bit despite the fact that the first time it was connected it WORKED fine. Here are some notes about what ive tried:
I have tried reinstalling WMDC
Changed the settings in USB to PC on the phone (disable advanced USB connections)
I have tried different cables (the device charges but will not connect).
The device connects with NO problems to my windows XP machine at work!
When i install drvupdate-amd64.exe it looks for an 'unknown device' but cannot find it and says the device is unplugged.
Ive tried turning the phone off and on whilst plugged into the USB
**edit** i have also tried different USB ports on the PC!
Can someone help as i want to update to hard spl but i need the sync connection and i have tried everything i can find in various forums!
Thanks in advance!
I have the same problem, did you or any one else have the solution to these problem? Thanks in advance.
if you have asus p7p55d motherboard you should know that there is a fault of the BIOS. When I enable the option "Intel C-State Tech", the driver for my mobile phone can be installed. So actually it is a problem with USB on that board, if the option is disabled. I hope this problem will be solved with a BIOS update soon. Until then I can live with that option enabled.
Well, after a lot time waste, I have a W7 64 bits but Office 2010 32 bits and everything works like a charm. I can sync without any problem with my HD2 (Leo).
to those who have the same problem, just check it and let us know.
You should install ActiveSync at first,if your diamond2 still can't synch with you PC.you can updated your device drivers in device management.
Hi,
Recently I made an installation of the Infused ROM 2.2.3 and Infusion OC kernel on my device, but I can´t make any USB connection (mass storage) to work properly on Windows XP SP3 with Samsung Modem installed, and Samsung SGH-I997 drivers too, Kies installed and etc... when device connects and show the 2 external units, and when begin to copy files between PC and phone device disconnects automatically, and sometimes freezes the entire windows explorer... what I´m doing wrong?
This is both in Windows XP SP3 and Mac OS X 10.6.8, in mac, device simply doesn´t appears... notice that Kies on mac is on version 1.0... and in Windows is on 2.+...

Drivers are not necessary for USB mass storage mode.
Are XP and MacOS on the same dual-boot machine or are these different machines?
I know one of the ports on my Asus laptop is weird and constantly disconnects the phone - it's limited to just one port and the rest work fine. Maybe you have something similar.

I have an iMac with Mac OS X 10.6.8 (x64) Bootcamp and WinXp (x86) installed, primary boot system is XP SP3, well... I´ll check usb ports, hope this helps to solve this...
in my office machine (HP Windows XP Pro x86) I have kies and drivers installed too, but this machine works so fine all the time, when I connect the phone, explorer displays the two units and it can copy/paste files between PC/phone without disconnecting, connection is stable...
... maybe I should get the Samsumg i-9000 drivers instead of SGH-i997 due to I´m on Infused 2.2.3??
What the hell is Windows XP?
Sounds like a driver conflict kies doesn't play well with win 7 64. I know from personal experience
Try uninstalling all drivers and kies then reinstall drivers only, I think xp has generic drivers for usb mass storage so if you just need that then connect it without installing driver's.
Also make sure your data cable is good. Try a new one. They are cheap on Amazon

Since it affects XP and MacOS on the same dual-boot machine but doesn't affect his work machine - I suspect it's a USB port problem.
Try this...
Were you able to go into mass storage mode prior to flashing the ROM?
If so, maybe your USB Ports are looking for something that to them isn't there...every time that you connect a usb device, your computer creates a record in the usbstor section of the registry. You can manually delete these by using regedit and heading to the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR
Remember that making changes to your registry can have some undesired results, but this one is pretty safe.
Alternatively, you can go to this site http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html and use USBDeview to disable any old keys or such.
Don
maybe... I don´t know why but its on both systems on iMac machine, device attempts to connect and a milisecond after that, connection rejects and reconnects then reject a bout a three times like it was shortcircuit... like I was saying, in my HP (work machine) works like a charm, even in USB debugging mode, or not, so...

I will try it and see what will happens... what could it be?
a driver problem?
another thing that I forget to mention is that I installed drivers manually, actually I live in a block without any wi-fi network! and my Windows XP could not get drivers via Microsoft Update, so, I don't know if this is a factor too
I'll try and make this short. Phone charges fine on comp. or charger. Phone works some what fine. Bluetooth seems to be getting quieter and quieter, but thats not the main issue. WMDC isnt working. I uninstalled it and restarted, I downloaded a newer version, I even tried about 5 cables and still the computer isnt even seeing any device what so ever. I was going to task 29 and reflash but now I'm affraid if the phones not even being recognized. Is there some setting or something that happened to of gotten changed that block my phone other than the obvious -virus protection.
Using windows 7. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Try a different usb port. I have had issues where the port I normally use for charging/syncing refuses to recognize my phone. I just use a different port and everything works fine. Even the first port starts working again. Windows 7 does seem to reinstall drivers again when I use switch ports, so patience is required.
Tried many different ports. Can't do a hard reset because : 1- I have some info and text that needs to be sync'd and : 2 my end button doesn't work anymore. Actually it was sticking so I kinda disconnected it. I would try to do a reflash from a SD card but like I said, I have stuff that I need sync'd and I'm not really sure if the phone just isnt going bad or software. I guess either way it wouldn't matter. Would like to learn how to sync with wifi.
I believe there is a wifi-sync method/program, but am not aware of the specifics. You could save your information to your sd card and simply use a usb reader to transfer the information that way. Or you can use the blutooth explorer on the phone to transfer to another blutooth device. Or I believe Google has a sync service so you can sync you information to your computers anytime and anywhere.
You can remap the "end" function to another key.
Your phone's usb port could have a cracked connection as mine disconnects while synced if I move the phone too much.
WMDC does not recognize the Mobile Device "MSW Vista and Later OS"
Try this procedure(s);
Settings, All Settings, Connections, USB Connections, clear the "Fast File Transfer" check mark under the Active Sync option. Restart the device and before connecting to the PC Double check to see if the the fast file transfer is still clear. then go ahead and try to see if your PC sees your device. Good Luck.
