adding "use only 3g networks" in haykuro G build? - G1 Android Development

One of the things I loved from the H build was the new features in the network setting, any way to add that to the G build?

use bettercut/anycut and make a shortcut to phone info. Its there...

Adding option "Use only 3G Networks" ?

Is it somehow possible to force the G1 not to switch to GSM when the UMTS-Network only has 1 Bar?
Is it possible to add the option to only use 3G?
I've read that one android-build (a modified one) has this option.
Would be ggreat, because here 3G is everywhere, but the G1 automatically switches to GSM if there's only 1 Bar.
I think this is bad, because When GSM has full Bars, it is slower then 3G with 1 Bar.
I believe Haykuro's H builds have this feature. Maybe someone can check, since I just switched to the Dude's build.

Correct. The haykuro 5.x.xH Chungwhatever builds of Android have that feature. As for adding it to Google builds of Android....I haven't the slightest.
use bettercut or anycut.
create shortcut
activity
phone info
go into shortcut, go down until you see options for WCMDA Preferred, change it to WCDMA only.
The shortcut to Activity, Phone Info to force to WCDMA only has been in their since RC29 - you do NOT need a rooted phone to do that.
Thank you! Found the option.
Or you can dial *#*#4636#*#*, phone info, scroll down and chance the settings to wcdma only. That will force to only work on 3g but if youre in an area where theres no 3g, youll get no service...
Hope that helps

[Q] How Do You Define A Default APN In A Build?

Hi folks;
I'm porting CM7 over to the Motorola Triumph (Virgin) and have MMS working, BUT (there's always a "but!")
Virgin uses.... somewhat "odd" configuration parameters. I found that I can set an APN that will get it to function.
Remember, this is a CDMA ROM......
Anyway, that's great, except I want it to be the default in the build. THAT I cannot get to work. I have it defined in the overlay area and it gets into the framework ok, but the [preferred="true"] tag is ignored and the APN is not selected.
If I grab APN Manager from the market I can see it, and if I select it then it activates and all is well.
Does anyone know how you specify in the build that this APN should be activated by default so that the user doesn't have to do anything? As it stands right now *no* APN is marked active when the build cold-boots.
Thanks in advance!

All I can think of is that there's still an old telephony.db hanging around.
Did you delete the db file: /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/database/telephony.db?
This is on a new load (e.g. a data wipe)
The APN is there but it refuses to automatically activate. If I go in with APN Manager and turn it on it remains on, but I have yet to figure out what the magic combination is that results in (on a cold boot with a wiped data - factory reset) the APN being activated.
Alternatively does anyone know what the magic incantation is to do this programmatically (e.g. what I'd have to include to build up a small program that looks at the current APN and if there isn't one set, pokes the system to set the correct one?)

no data connection on custom roms

hi. first let me state, ive had no training in developing, im teaching myself bits and pieces here and there (through trial and error). now onto my issue:
I have a moto g 2015 osprey, us cellular, 8g version. ive got twrp recovery installed, and have tried two different custom roms, resurrection remix 5.5.7, and CM 12.1 latest nightly, both with stock kernel and with squid 2 kernel. the problem i am having is, with both roms, i have wifi, and can activate my phone on us cellular towers, but i have no data connection. (btw, i got both roms from android development thread, if that matters). hopefully someone is able to help me get my phone working on custom roms with the info i have provided, as i absolutely abhore stock roms. if not, ill gladly provide any info requested. and thanks in advance!
Those roms may have been wiping out your APN settings under Settings>More>Cellular networks>Access Point Names.
I don't have them in front of me but Google US Cellular APN and you should find them. Be sure and save the settings at the top before you back out. There are apps for APN settings but I haven't had much luck with any of them. There is one app though that I believe does give you the APN settings even if it won't change them. Search in Play for APN and you'll find lots of apps.

pardon, i forgot to mention that. CM 12.1 WAS deleting my apn, reloaded stock, took screenshots of my apn settings, loaded CM 12.1 and set them up manually. still no data connection. Resurrection did not delete my apn, but it added 2 others. selected the apn my carrier assigned when i got the phone, still no data connection.
I can't even register it on the towers. Just reports "Cellular network not available"

Is there a way to disable wifi scanning completely?

An app I use may or may not be read wifi scanning. In other words it can see what networks are close by. I want to make sure that it cannot see any of them, but I still want to be able to "Add network" and connect.
Moto G, Android 4.4.4
wifi
switch off your wifi in settings

1st Gen Moto G cannot add APN

I have 1st generation Moto G from Telus CA, Lollipop 5.1. I am using in on AT&T network. Phone works great but cannot access data. Under APN, ATT (Phone) was marked but data is not working whenever I turn off WiFi.
I tried to add new APN but the "add" function crash everytime when I tried.
Any suggestion to get data working ?
Thanks,
Ching-Ho Cheng
