Is there a way to disable wifi scanning completely? - General Questions and Answers

An app I use may or may not be read wifi scanning. In other words it can see what networks are close by. I want to make sure that it cannot see any of them, but I still want to be able to "Add network" and connect.

How to disable GPRS warning?

I have the Fuze version on at&t network. I've disabled 3G on AT&T's side so there is no way to connect through there.
Nevertheless, my phone ALWAYS tries to connect to the 3G network and i've disabled 3G connections using Nodata.cab, advancedconfig, diamondtweaks.
Still, the warning signs always come up:
"there is a problem connecting to the gprs service in your registered home network warning"
and this occurs, when I turn on the phone and many other times.
Is there a way to disable this warning? I know I cant connect, its because i disabled it!!!!
anyone? it comes up like 50x a day andi have to click OK to make it go away every single time
Have you unchecked the auto update setting for the weather program? Doing this worked for me.
did that, but didnt fix the problem. anything else that can be auto updating or trying to contact the 3G network?
Go to start -- settings -- connections -- connections --advanced -- select network.
Here I think you can change the defaults so that when ever a program tries to use internet it will either use wifi (if available) or nothing....
I have blocked the wireless internet access on all my lines and this is how I solved the problem of getting gprs disconnect warnings.
Hope this helps.
Is it possible to just disable this warning?
I'm switching between my personal and business SIM cards quite often, and I have the data connection disabled on the business card, while on personal I have a data plan, so I want to be always-online.
I disabled aGPS and now i dont get the warning as much. (remember, i disabled GPRS from att side).
when i start my phone, i get 1 warning (i used to get 3?)
maybe i'm on the right track...
But the point is not to disable features so they don't auto-connect to the Internet.
The point is for the OS to try to onnect automatically, but when it failes - it doesn't have to scream that to your face every 5 minutes.
I'm bumping this thread cause I did the same thing and want to know how to disable the message as well.
still no answer to this
Translating from Dutch, so bear with me:
Go to Personal > phone > network settings and put the band on GSM.
Note that you won't be able to use the 3G + H data connections then.
my father has the same problem on his Diamond, need help!
bump, i have the same problem as well
any solutions?
i have a solution.
download > install > and run NOGPRS.cab aka No Data. that will shut it up. i just had the same problem and i did that and now i havnt gotten any... i think i might get like one if i turn the phone on and off and what not, but other then that its fine.
Solution to GPRS warning message
Go to settings > Connections > Connections > advanced > select networks >
now check both options to 'my work network'
click ok
and reboot
the irritating message will go away.
until you again reinstall the sim into your phone and it will automatically reconfigure the settings.
Just repeat the above process.
solution
1. Tap Start.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Phone.
4. Tap the Network Tab.
5. Tap the Network Selection Drop down.
6. Tap Manual.
7. Tap the desired network.
8. Tap Ok.

[Q] Wi-Fi and 3g connection problems

Hi there!
I've some problems with my G-Nexus 5, as wroten in title,
the Wi-Fi and the 3g connection disconnects me during utilizing it,
if i look on the icons of wi-fi or 3g i can see that i'm not receiving any data and i cant continue to surf in web or by enjoying a game online.
So the question is its a hardware or a software problem, and if another one had the same problem.
So noone had this issue?
Sounds like hardware if this happens both to 3G and WIFI.
How do you fix it? Toggle Wifi? Airplane mode? Restart phone?
After a bit it begins to surf something like 5-10 seconds
I get the same problem on my 3G, it doesn't happen while I'm on WiFi. I have to disable/enable data or airplane mode on/off to get this working again. Also I have noticed that when signal changes from 3G to EDGE and then back to 3G I don't have data working. Need to to the same trick to have that back. It's annoying and you don't know when it working or not unless you check your phone....and lose notification from Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp which i use a lot.
I wrote to google lets see what do they say....
I got realy bored about thia issue.
I would verify that your apn settings are correct. Either call your carrier or maybe google your ("carrier name" apn settings). Also... Settings/Wireless & networks/More/Mobile networks/Preferred network type, is correct. I do know that in my case as far as wifi I get better results (quicker to connect) if the "Advanced " settings for "WiFi frequency band" is set to 2.4 GHz only. Default is Auto. Worth a shot.

[Q]Problem with some protected WI-FI networks

Hi, I would like to ask if anyone has faced problems while trying to connect to username/password requiring WI-FI networks. I don't know what is wrong, but my Moto G won't connect to my University wi-fi, accusing an authentication problem. The username and password are perfectly right and working in other Android devices, the problem is only with the Moto G.
Did anyone face similar problem? If yes, did you manage a workaround or something.
Thanks in advance.
I had a similar problem with my University WiFi. I had click the connection while it was trying to connect, and then edit the connection to choose my user name and password. I had to do this while it was trying to connect, otherwise it will give me authentication errors.

That old IT support favorite – turn it off and on again. Try turning the Moto G off and the router off and then switch them both back on again. That will often solve your issues.
If it still won’t connect at all, start by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and long press on your router, then choose Forget network. Scan again and re-enter all your details.
If the connection keeps dropping, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced and consider changing two settings. Make sure Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is set to Always. Make sure Avoid poor connections is not ticked.
If battery drain is the problem, try Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced and set Scanning always available to off.
Make sure that your router firmware is up to date.
To assess whether you need to change channels you can download the Wi-Fi Analyzer app and take a look how crowded it is.
You could try changing the other settings on your router. You might want to make sure that MAC filtering is off, or add your Moto G’s MAC address (you’ll find it in Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced). You could also try setting a static IP.

Fix: no calls/delay text/notifications on wifi

Hi,
If you were like me, you were frustrated when you switched to CM12 and didn't receive any notifications/text/calls while on WiFi. This was a huge deal breaker for me. I do more on messages/emails/notifications than phone calls, so I was extremely upset not to receive texts in real time!
1) You shut off wifi and all of a sudden you'd receive a flood of messages.
2) You tried flashing all the modems and nightlies to get updated firmware and modems
3) You gave up and just went back to Kitkat.
Now there is a FIX!
And it has nothing to do with flashing any zips or changing firmware/modems!
It's all about the "Preferred network type"
1) You can find this in "Mobile network settings" change from 2G/3G/LTE to 2G/3G when on wifi and change it back when you are off wifi. Now doing this manually can be a pain in the ***, this is why we have the second option of automatically doing it with:
2) "Profiles"
Create 2 profiles (e.g. Home & Default)
Be connected to your wifi.
Setup Home (my own home wifi) "Triggers which will activate this profile" and click on "Wi-Fi" and then click on your network name and have it "on connect", hit back.
Scroll down to "Wireless & networks" and change "Preferred network type" to 2G/3G.
Done with First profile
Setup Default (when off of wifi's) "triggers which will activate this profile" and click on "Wi-Fi" and click on the network name you're currently connected to, and have it "on disconnect, hit back.
Scroll down to "Wireless & networks" and change "Preferred network type" to 2G/3G/LTE.
Summary: This will switch your profile when connected to wifi to use 2G/3G only, as you have your wifi to use the internet. This will allow calls/texts/notifications to go through 2G/3G. When you're off of wifi, it'll switch to the Default profile which uses LTE.
What I do:
1) My Default profile has multiple disconnections, my home wifi, work wifi, bluetooth to the car when disconnected will switch my profile to Default.
2) I have a Work Profile, Home Profile, Car Profile which on wifi/bluetooth connect, will change into their profiles. Work and Home are connected to wifi, so I changed the "Preferred network type" to 2G/3G. Car and Default profiles will change "Preferred network type to" 2G/3G/LTE.
Hope this helps you guys with the no text/calls/notification issues while on wifi!
Probably not intended by CM, a little fix around for now until they solve this one with some coding.
If it works, please thank! =)

Another solution that is more permanent is to flash the modem from CM 11s and the Proximity sensor fix. I also had this issue and have not had it since.
Enjoy!

[Help][SG Note 4 SM-910G LP 5.0.1]Issue with wifi, wifi hotspot and mobile network

Dear xdaians
I am getting some problems in my new Note 4 SM 910G[India] after updating to the lollipop.
1. The wifi is getting turned ON automatically. Even if i turn it OFF, the next moment it will turn ON. This affecting the WiFi hotspot. Whenever i try to turn ON the wifi hotspot, after some time it will show one message "Turning on wifi will disable the WiFi hotspot" and WiFi turns ON automatically. So i have to use the "Forget network" option to get out from the wifi network. But it becomes really hectic. I googled the same but could not get similar ones or others are getting the problem like WiFi is turning OFF automatically.
2. Mobile network is getting disconnected. I don't see any problem with network operator or the SIM tray. Sometimes the "Network mode" option will be cleared automatically and no operators are available in "Network operators" and mobile is disconnected. It requires a restart to connect the mobile to the network back. If i try to select any option in "Network mode", the option becomes disabled!.
Any solution for the above two issues?. Divert the thread if you have any known solutions.
Thanks and regards,
Prajeesh

Sometimes you will need to wipe the device after a lollipop update so it should be stable.

Thanks Newyork!. The wifi issue got resolved after executing the wipe. However the network issue is still present and one another issue came up now is with bluetooth. Bluetooth control stops sometimes (Even-though it is connected ).
