Phone Wifi crashes router. - General Topics

I've noticed that whenever I connect my Kaiser to my Wifi network at home, it will work for 10-15 minutes, after which it looses the connection. At this point the router itself needs to be hard-rebooted, since it can't be accessed anymore (even from a cable connection).
I had this problem with my Hermes before, but thought it was only the phone, and was hoping this would go away when I got the Kaiser.
The router is D-Link DI-524.
Anyone else have similar problems? How did you resolve them?

many many people have issues like that
only way to solve it i know is to upgrade the firmware
of the router
manufactures release updated firmware pretty often fixing bugs
and making better compatibility with newer devices

Ok... maybe I should have also asked what routers people have NOT had any problems with.
If I can find a model that seems to be rock solid, then I'd spend the $40 and get one... I just don't want to do it by trial and error.

Tested with Tomato, DD-WRT and pfsense, HTC Mogul, no issues ever. Pfsense is probably advanced for your purposes, but any Tomato-compatible router is a good choice.

[Q] Anyone else Having wifi connection issues with the xoom?

Hey I was wondering if anyone else was having wifi connection issues with the xoom? Every time I use my xoom I have to keep retrying to load the market, webpages and everything else that uses data. Usually have to reload the market around 3-5 times to get it to work. I have tried 2 different routers and stilll the same thing. Please let me know if anyone else is having this issue and if there is a way to fix it. Thanks
P.s. When Im on 3G everything is fine
I get it but only with Market, I assumed it was a market issue.
On. 3G, for me, everything is dog slow, but I never get the Retry box.

Mine works perfect with my AT&T U-Verse gateway and tethered to my AT&T captivate. No problems here at all with wifi. Do you have problems with other wifi routers? Go to Starbucks or a friends and see if the same issue occurs. If not, there is something with your router that Xoom does not like.
I'm having WiFi issues as well. I don't have any issues with any other laptops in my house ... but my Xoom ... get very poor signal on WiFi and sometimes doesn't get any connection at all. This is serious buzz kill.
Mine is also choking on wifi. Switch to 3g and no problems. Annoying.

Hardly surpisring when the antenna is surrounded by glass and plastic
Wifi is suspect on the Xoom. I cannot get a connection to my secure wireless at work but I can connect to the less secure guest wireless network. I also could not initially tether with my phone (TMobile Vibrant) but after I downloaded Mobile AP I was able to tether just fine and have not had any issues since then.
No complaints here to report. I'm pulling in on average a speed of 17mbps download on most days from my home wifi network. Quite the speedy little guy my Xoom is.
WiFi hasnt been a problem for me either.
So far, I've used it on 4 different wireless networks (G and N/G), using various security options and I connect to each without fail. Hell, Ive even seen the Xoom connect to WiFi when driving down the street towards places that I have it configured to see.
I did have some trouble at one point due to my DNS and DHCP servers being offline. I didnt suspect any issues with them, so I spent more time than I should have troubleshooting the Xoom.

Always Connecting...
Greetings All,
I have been having issues as well after the update. The wireless always disconnects and connects and doesn't stay connected. No problems with my Droid X or laptop or other device.
Problem is that now I'm getting very close to going over my data plan.
Is there a fix in the works, since it worked perfectly with 3.0

UPDATE: Uninstalled the leaked Flash 10.2 and that has fixed the problem, somewhat. Still disconnects, but less.

Wireless issue fixed....
Greetings again,
Even after uninstalling flash, the problem persisted somewhat. I was getting very frustrated and so I reset the xoom to factory settings. A few notes on that. All applications were reinstalled, through the market which is good and bad.
So far, after 2 days of heavy wireless use, not a single drop in wifi connectivity.
Hope this helps...

So far my wireless is great. I use WP2 Secure at home, a WEP at my parents, and a MAC based approval network at work. All are steady with full bars and no issues.
SleeplessNinja

Its the encrypton protocol, WPA2 with AES will cause problems.
TKIP works.
I also have random issues. Some days its just fine, but other days wifi works and then stops working, usually a reboot fixes it.
Must be some wifi issue.
I have a fully factory stock xoom and have had NO wy fy problems at all! internet conection firm and stable. I intend not to root my zoom untill all the important updates are done and stable. I also am waiting for my 4G card install. I have WPA2 with AES and the xoom conected to it with NO problem
I haven't had any problems with mine whatsoever. I think it could be your router. My Xoom stays connected with my router and I haven't had a single problem so far with connected wifi.
My PS3 needs a router reset every single time I want to play Black Ops though.
ihad this issue. I think it may be hioneycomb and not xoom related because I experienced it on the acer iconia. The good news is that I resolved my connection issue with wifi. On the surface it looks like a dhcp handshake issue so, if you assign your xoom a static ip from your router, the issue goes away and all is good.

Alright I've had my Inspire quite a while now and have been using CyanogenMod RC's mainly sense I rooted my phone. One feature I lost initial was my Wireless-N but I chalked it up to the rom being in development (started at RC 6). I forgot about the loss until a few days ago when i got my brand new router.
Now I can access Wireless B,G but my phone can not see N. I've tried multiple Roms, Radios and RILs without any affect. I've basically run out of ideas on what to try to fix this. Anyone have any suggestions on could causing this?

i dont think you will actually see the letter? you will just receive the speed if you have it available. you will see the name you gave your wireless etc. and connect to it. i am not quite sure what you mean your phone can not access N
I use dd-wrt on the router so it broad a different SSIDs for each radio in it. I have "test-G" and "test-N" broadcasting form the router. I can see "test-G" broadcasting from my phone but not "test-N". Now I can see "test-N" from all my other devices in my house.
I miss spoke on my last post. I hadn't tested Wireless-A yet form my router till now. Seem My phone can see the 5-GHz range.

Wifi Issue: sell GT7 or wait for ICS

Dear seasoned Xda members,
I love my GT7+ and have enjoyed the versatility of the Android Os (my first device). As I carry the device around and (attempt to) use it at work the size is perfect. However, I have terrible issues with the WIFI. At home there is no issue - but I work in a hospital, and the device is only good for me if it can get WIFI.
Well... in the hospital it will connect to both the "guest" wifi and the "secure" wifi (for which my device has been setup), but in both cases the connection just "dies" after about 2 minutes. The only way to get on again it by re-booting the device.
I had hoped that all of the firmware updates would address the issue - and I have read that some routers are troublesome for the GT7+. Unfortunately I will have little control over what routers are being used.
The device is no use to me if I can't use it at work - and Im wondering if I should sell it or if ICS will resolve the Wifi issue.... I would appreciate any guidance even if its speculation.
[btw the device is entirely stock, not rooted, and using ADW instead of TW]
Cheers!
Here's samsung's ics update list.http://androidandme.com/2012/02/devices/official-samsung-android-4-0-update-list/. You'll probebly have to wait until Q2 or Q3 for ICS, unless someone ports CM9.

I guess it was my fault to get the WIFI only version thinking it would be easy to switch between networks. Seems like a bug that they should have wrinkled out before shipping a "Wifi-only" device.
In any case, if anyone is looking for another device to play with - shoot me an email (aliota [at] gmail.com)
I had the same issue prior. I bought this Tab twice and with both devices the same thing happened at work aswell. At home it was working perfect. At work any wireless connected but dropped in like 2 minutes. Very Frustrating. I was actually thinking of picking it up again assuming the issue had been fixed..

Have you tied to do a factory reset on the device and then reconfigure the wifi connections? I bounce between many wireless networks during my day and the connection is stable.
I did have a few reboots until I set the wifi to turn off with the screen and never to turn off when charging, now the device is rock solid.
I believe that once ICS is dropped there will be some custom firmwares (ROMS) available for the device. Every new device I see posts like this where there is one feature or another that is flaky, once the developers start working their wonders on it the device becomes wonderful. The biggest hold up right now for development is the WiFi driver. Based on history of other devices, eventually that will be overcome as well.

Interesting... I've tried this in the past without any luck, but will try again. I really want to keep the device because it is quite powerful and the 7" size makes it much more portable than a 10"+ tablet.
Thanks for the feedback.
I have noticed some wifi issues with mine also but they dont seem to big of a deal for what I use mine for. I would really recommend keeping it as it is duel-core, lightweight, can even fit in some pockets.
But rather you keep it or not I suppose depends what you use your tablet for mostly I suppose.

[Q] Nexus 5 and Telus Routers

Hey all,
I'm not sure if anybody else is having this problem, but for the last month I've been having trouble connecting to Telus routers properly. It connects to the wifi signal, but will not load websites about 70-80% of the time and many apps (YouTube, NHL, XDA, Playstation, Play Store, etc). When I switch to my data connection, the sites/app load normally. I don't seem to have this problem when connected to other places (ie. work, starbucks, etc). It's getting really annoying since I had to keep switching to my data to load a site, etc. Not to mention having to pay more because I've gone over my data serving.
At first, I thought it was my phone as it was also experiencing massive battery drain and getting really warm, so I got it RMA'd. But as soon as my new one came from Google, the exact thing happened. I couldn't even download apps/set it up while connected to my Telus router. I've already contacted Telus, and they've updated the firmware to my router, but I'm still having the same issue (altho not as bad, I think? It's only been a day).
Anybody else encountering this?

The general WiFi fixes still apply. Many people have a single router that they are having issues with, and it works fine on everything else they've tried.

I'm not having the issue where the phone will not connect to wifi - it connects fine, and doesn't go orange. Sounds like you've exhausted most of the options available on the router itself that would be recommended.
Try setting your phone to only use 2.4Ghz instead of Auto or 5Ghz, and as a latch ditch effort you can also try disabling Mobile Data (toggle it off manually or automated with Tasker/Llama) while using WiFi.

Yeah, I've already tried setting it only to 2.4GHz, but that doesn't make a difference either. I haven't tried disabling Mobile Data, tho. Will give that a shot, altho I honestly don't see that that will change anything? But I'll try it, regardless!
And more clarification, I am able to access things like Twitter, Tumblr, G+, so I am getting an internet connection. It just won't load most webpages on Chrome/Chrome Beta, YouTube, and other apps. Quite frustrating...!
Thanks!

For sure anyone would be frustrated in the same situation, Hopefully you can get it solved. The mobile data trick has worked for many people with WiFi issues but is more of a temporary fix, I find.
I'm reluctant to even mention this but if you get desperate enough, perhaps give this app a try as well.

Its definitely the router, or something on your network causing you trouble. Disconnect every other single thing from your network and try. If not....its the router. Demand a completely different one from them.

And if bad battery drain is still occurring, get gsam....and check Wakelocks. If its WiFi related, It will show that.

Thanks for the reply. I got a new phone, so I'm not having the battery drain issue anymore.
As for the modem/router, that's what I'm thinking. I've already talked to telus about it, but they couldn't figure it out. I think it may be a software update they pushed out, but they said they hadn't had any updates lately. I can't get a different one from them, as this is the one that has to be used for telus TV. I may end up just going up my own router to the existing modem/router. It's just frustrating as I'm experiencing this at another place that also uses telus. I mean, I can't be hooking up routers at every place that uses Telus, now can I? Lol

I'd still try disconnecting everything connected to that router. Reboot it....and see what happens.

WiFi SUPER confusion, help please

Hey Everyone,
I honestly don't know if this is the right place to ask but I don't know where to start, with you, with google, with comcast, or Netgear. Here is the issue.
We have comcast internet and use a comcast approved Netgear N600 dual band cable modem. My wife and I both have Nexus 5 with Android 5.0. We also have laptops, a Roku 3, and PS 4, all hooked up via wifi.
IN the past month, our wifi on phones has gotten unusable. You try to browse a site, and it takes forever, usually a minute (not forever but long) to load the site, and then the site browses at normal speed. However, if you try to navigate to a NEW site, you have the minute load time, before that site browses normally.
The roku, laptops and PS4 all work perfectly via wifi. I did the speedtest net app on my phone, and it had 50 mb download, 13 mb upload via wifi. So connection speeds are perfect.
Its just that initial minute plus wait to actually have a website load each time, that is bizarre. Any thoughts please? Comcast says its the phone. Netgear says its comcast.
Oh, on ANY other wifi network our phones work perfectly. Love help. Thanks!
John

Yes, I have rebooted the router. I have also done a hard reset on the router, restoring it to factory defaults, upon which I have to rename our network/set password etc. WHEN I do this, our phones function perfectly for a few hours, then the problem rears its ugly head again.
Certainly sounds like a router issue. Or at least an incompatibility.

How would I look for a compatibility issue? What exactly would I look for, a specification? This router worked fine for the first three months?
Well really what you need to do is troubleshoot by trial and error. If you could perhaps borrow another type of router and run it side-by-side... If it works OK, its a problem with your router and not your phone or Comcast. If it doesn't work, you've ruled out the router and identified an issue either with the phone or Comcast.
---------- Post added at 01:54 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:52 AM ----------
Also try taking other devices both wireless and wired off the network to see if there are any conflicts. If anything has static IP addresses. Confirm they're not the same.
What part is taking so long? Is it the DNS lookup or the actual data transfer? I would run some nslookup commands from a phone to make sure resolution isn't the problem.

What is the adblock extension? Is that a program that would be on our phones or the router? This only happens with our phones, correct, but also ONLY on our home network. Any other wifi and our phones work great. At the same time, our laptops and ps4/roku work perfectly fine on our home wifi. Here is the breakdown

Roku/PS4/Laptops Work Fine
Our 2 Nexus 5 do not
Other Wifi Networks
Phones work fine
For the first few months our phones worked fine on our home network as well. Its only in the past month or so that they started acting funky. Could it be something with Android 5.0?
It could be something to do with anything. Only you can rule things out.

AdBlock Plus is a browser extension. It was a long shot but the exact same symptoms were happening to me when I had that installed on my phone's browser. Internet was working fine but websites would need a good 20-40 seconds before they would load.
I'm putting my money on the router since both your and your wife's phones are acting up. One phone, plausible. Two phones, highly unlikely. Have you tried a factory reset on the router? This could literally be anything from having too many neighbors with wireless devices to some weird improbable scenario with some QoS setting on the router. Short of borrowing a router from someone, a reset might help if things were working fine before.
While each possible scenario that could be causing your grief may be unlikely, the vast amount of possibilities just adds complexity to your situation. I mean, I remember when chipsets from different manufacturers wouldn't play nice together back in the 802.11g days...
Since your connection speed is fine, bandwidth wise, try running a traceroute from your phone to, say, Google or any arbitrary site, and see which hop hangs the longest... (Traceroute is like a glorified ping).
Try setting your DNS server to 8.8.8.8 (you can do that on your phone, in WiFi settings).
