Living in Israel, I have run into issues with daylight savings time on my Windows Mobile device more than once in the past.
Due to political reasons combined with the usage of a lunar calendar for some purposes (this one in particular), Israel has a differnt daylight savings period each year.
Microsoft has never provided a good and straightforward solution for this. In recent years I had the chance to speak to more than one representative of Microsoft in Israel. The solutions were finally provided, but it never felt like they wanted users to get them.
Of course, without the correct DST settings, all appointments get offset by 1 hour (either compared to real life, or just compared to Outlook, which gets the correct settings from Windows, which in turn gets them from my company's IT manager).
This can become quite a mess if not taken care of in time, i.e., before the DST change occurs.
This year, preparing for the DST change scheduled for the coming Friday (March 27th), I searched the Microsoft support pages and found this update, which is supposed to do the work. I believe this is just the second time Microsoft has released such an update (the first was March 2008).
The update is for several countries including also Iran, Egypt and Argentina.
Thank you for this information!
Great! Solved my biggest mobile problem.
Need Help for Israel DST 2011
Can't find this file anylonger on MS site.
Can you post a download link for KB958729 ?
I have tried kb977014 or kb975353 and neither one solves the issues this year 2011. Any suggestions ?

Hi globalgpj,
KB958729 will not help you, it's only good for 2009.
I myself am facing the same problem since yesterday morning, obviously.
A Microsoft solution is not available, quite clearly because of the discontinuation of WinMobile and transfer to WP7.
What we need to be looking for is the registry entry that sets the daylight savings change date, and modify it to next Friday, which is when we really change to DST here in the holy land. This might not be easy. See the info here, which I'm still trying to figure out.
This link does show a registry entry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Clock] / "HomeDST": REG_DWORD, which looks like it it can provide a temp solution. That is, if you change it from "1" back to "0", you disable DST. Then you can set it to "1" again next Friday morning.
However, I've tried, it keeps changing back automatically.
So, no solution so far, sorry. I'll keep trying and let you know if I find anything. Otherwise, perhaps a different time zone (Moscow?) for the coming week will do the trick.
Thanks for the detailed reply.
It's sad that MS is not on top of this. There is only millions of users that will have a problem without all the proper settings. For MS its really a little research and posting a cab every year.
Alternatively, someone could write a program that we could even purchase to effect these sort of changes that are required from time to time.
In the meantime, I have set the dword value to 0 and just created a cab to just change it back to 1 next week.
Cheers

but how does it know when to add or subtract? sorry, i live in asia so mabbe i'm not savvy about how DST works...
I know this from an OLD OLD program on my first ever Psion Series 3, many a moon ago, that however intricate it is, there IS a formula, pre-ordained, to calculate when DST starts and ends, for any given year.
Whether its as simple as a pre-set list of dates, or most likely, based on days that months start on etc, I cannot say.
And as to the method behind the formula, again I cannot say.
But I can say that an old old piece of software, on my Psion, was designed to work out just exactly this for you.
So somewhere, or somehow, this IS something than can either be calculated in advance, or is simply a pre-set list.
The DST calculation
The DST is starting the last Sunday of March and is terminating the last Sunday of October. As simple as that.

QUESTION 1
I've been flashing and reflashing ROMs for a couple of weeks now and am very impressed with Dutty's latest endeavor. In anticipation of the v4 release, I'm hoping someone in the community can tell me if it is possible to backup an over-the-air (OTA) enterprise activation of BB Connect. Currently I'm calling our technical support guys who, sooner than later I'm sure, will start asking why I have to have to get a new OTA activation password (which they change as soon as you use it) every 5-7 days.
So, in short: moving from one ROM to the next and want to back up OTA BBConnect enterprise activation. Possible? If so, how?
QUESTION 2
Any BES administrators out there willing to tell me if my Tilt/Kaiser shows up on the BES (v4) differently than a BlackBerry (like the POS 7280 I'm given by the company). If so, is there a way to "spoof" that since my company will not allow non-blackberry devices.
QUESTION 3
When using the stock AT&T ROM, my Tilt respects the (highly restrictive, Bluetooth disabling, password-enforcing, ridiculous) IT Policy pushed by the BES administrator. When I flashed to Dutty's DualTouch ROM v3 Final, this no longer happened. Now, it just reads "default" for the IT Policy. Is this a fluke or some wonderful reg entry that we need to identify and protect like diamonds?
Thanks, all.
Cheers,

We run BES here and indeed non-blackberry devices are reported as the phone model when you look up the phones information.
This could probably easily be spoofed to whatever you like. If you hacked the blackberry connect application, or intercepted and modified the data passed over to BES. You could make it say anything you want at that point.
I'd get "in" with your IT guys and that way they can pull a favor for you now and then with the BES server. Other then that, have the company pay for a blackberry phone and carry two phones around, or refuse to carry a company phone and don't use your personal phone for company resources. If they're blocking your productivity by a poorly guided company policy, make it cost them money. Don't inconvenience yourself to keep your productivity as an employee on par.
Really though, it's not feasible to secretly go behind your employers back with your tilt. I think it's ridiculous a company wouldn't let you use your Tilt -- though probably because the corporation is uneducated or ignorant to the fact that the Tilt can be locked down just as well as a blackberry phone. Too bad the employer has a bunch of pointy haired management types running around who don't know what they're doing and out of ignorance banned non-BB devices.
Jon,
Thank you for your prompt reply and clarification on what shows up at the BES. Hacking the BB connect app is beyond my current knowledge set, but I may look into it if I'm unable to find a simpler solution.
Unfortunately, my company has several thousand employees so my productivity concerns are far outweighed by their misinformed security concerns. I've pitched the benefits of BB connect, WM5/6 devices and direct-push Exchange sync, but my pitch falls on deaf ears. They have provided me a BB 7280 and some get newer 8XXX devices, but beyond that we're expected to be happy with what we have. I'm even buying a non-camera Tilt to replace my two week old Tilt because they won't allow personal camera phones (all BB connect issues aside). You'd think I work for MI-6...
Cheers,

Here's how you do it
you could use the desktop software instead of OTA. this will activate the phone without requiring you to get a new activation code.
Here's how I back up and restore. This has worked often, and not worked a few times.
Try to follow this exactly for best results.
get task manager v2.7 from fdcsoft
tap the blackberry icon on the taskbar and suspend the service under status
start taskmanager, and go to services. stop the two blackberry services, log and security.
open file explorer, and copy the directory RIM in /application data to your storage card
flash your phone with whatever-
copy the RIM folder back to /application data from your storage card
load blackberry connect (this should be the same version you had, otherwise you may have issues)
tap the blackberry icon in settings-system
instead of installing, you should see a window that says "repairing settings"
your old password should be restored, and the phone will lock and ask you to unlock. use your password you had before the backup.
all of your folders and mail should be back.
This works about 90% of the time.
some issues I've had-
multiple blackberry folders- one with emails, one with nothing.
folders missing, a bunch of email in drafts folder.
older messages no longer sync with desktop
good luck!
A summary of the problems.
- The timestamp on all received SMS's are 1 hour behind & the issue began on DST changes.
- The timestamp on all received SMS's are hours ahead / behind & are not related to DST.
- While the received SMS timestamp is off, all sent SMS's are perfectly fine.
- It messes up ordering of SMS's [if ordered by time received / sent].
A summary of the fixes.
- CAB from Diamond forum.
> Download and install
> OR create [HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\TrustTimeZoneField= 0]
- Registry change from Raphael forum.
> Create [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\ConsistentRoamingIconSlot= 0]
- CAB of Official Microsoft DST patch [Updated Aug 09].
> Download and install
- Registry change from Kaiser forum.
> Create [HKLM\Software\OEM\SMS\RecvTimeStamp= 0]
- Changing system time zone from Sapphire forum.
> Fiddle with System Time Zone [Settings > System > Clocks & Alarms > Time]
* if a key [eg. "SMS" in HKLM\Software\OEM\SMS] does not exist, create it [as a KEY].
* if a value [eg. "RecvTimeStamp" in HKLM\Software\OEM\SMS\RecvTimeStamp =0] does not exist, create it [as a DWORD].
My issue.
- My issue started with the DST change - my received SMS timestamps are 1 hour behind.
- All fixes I listed above are installed / entered, but do not work for me.
- A text from myself has the correct timestamp
- Other texts still have incorrect timestamps [1 hour behind]
- These texts were from an iPhone 3G / SE K800i on the 3 network
- Any suggestions?
Anyone?
It seems the Q&A forum lacks in answers...should it become the Q forum?

My searching isn't perfect, but as you saw I tried 3 xda-devs methods and the official Microsoft update. Could you point me towards other possible fixes [such as your own] if you know some?
Apolos......My bad, should read 100% and not 98 % lol
Edit....
I had posted this cab also, but noticed it had been posted in the diamond forum also.....
Most of these fixes work for 99% of people, i guess you are the exception
I am going to have to have a deeper dig, so apols if you dont get ur answer straight away
Cheers.
Thanks for your effort timmymarsh, I really appreciate it. I must say I have to take back my previous words - I guess the Q&A section does have good posters - I just don't see them often enough ;}
I am going to experiment with a few fixes at once, and continue to search for other "solutions".
Edit: I tried a few different search terms, and came across another registry entry from the Kaiser forum...which did not work.
I have updated the first post - I can text myself and receive the correct timestamp, but when my friend texts me the problem remains.

Thats interesting, is your mate on the same network and has he tried the df fix (or ms one). THis would prove (or not) that the timefix works. I believe it is not your phone that is the problem but other peoples which is why texting yourself works. Many people who have applied the fixs using all kinds of devices say they have no further problems, but of course if someones devices doesnt have the fix then the timings will appear incorrect.........
.........or am i just being simple
I am on the TPG network [which I believe leverages the Optus network].
My friend is on 3.
At first I thought it might be his problem too. However, his system time is correct, and I should note he is not on a WinMo / WinPho, but an iPhone 3G.
I also got a text from a SE K800i on 3, and the timestamp was again behind by 1 hour.
My guess only: Your friends' location is another timezone from your current location.

I can practically walk to my friend's house.
Update: I am now going to fiddle around with the system time zone.
Found a thread in the Sapphire apps & games [???] forum that says that I should adjust the system time zone.
Update: Tried adjusting the time zone, but it didn't help.
This is an interesting point though - in a time zone I changed to[I think GMT +11, from GMT +10], it corrected some SMS's I had already received [i.e. that were sitting in my inbox].
However, the ones I received after the change were still behind by 1 hour.
Could this mean it is a network / external problem?

Why dont you create a cab with the reg change that you can auto install via UC after the flash?
If you dont know how, there are websites that you can type in the reg change you want to do enabling you to download the cab.
If you need it i will try and find the site if you dont have software to do this for yourself.
Chow.

I have the same problem in Hawaii. I think its a network thing. It is like this for me on sprint and ATT when using my sprint branded TP2 in Hawaii. I cant figure it out.
Ok first off if this is the wrong place to post this I apologize but I tried searching and can't find anything about my phone.
I just purchased a Toshiba Regza phone from AU in Japan. I have changed the regional settings to English and all the menus and mostly everything is in English but the problem I am having is that the email program that everyone uses here to send instant email back and forth is still in Japanese. I have contacted AU KDDI about this and they say there is no way to change the language to English from within the email program itself. My wife is Japanese and she has looked at every setting within the email program itself and cannot find any language settings.
As far as I have found out, the "email" system here in Japan is actually a MMS messaging system on steroids that uses an email address instead of the other persons phone number like in the US. I think a very long time ago some of my friends in Japan had email addresses with there phone number(at)docomo.ne.jp
I have looked on the marketplace and I can't seem to find anything that will work with the AU system.
Does anyone know if there is an app that can replace the stock email program to send and recieve email with my xxxxxxxx(at)ezweb.ne.jp? If there is where can I find the settings for AU's email system? Do they use IMAP. POP or because it is MMS it is totally different?
I love this phone, the camera is awesome the screen rez is really great watching 1 seg TV and the video quality is great. I really don't want to have to do anything to it that will brick it because it's brand new and my wife would kill me LOL Only thing is I cannot use the email program to it's fullest extent.
thanks for taking the time to read this and for any help you might provide.
Unfortunately there is no fix or alternative, as carriers in Japan have their mobile mail services tightly locked down and you require their express authorisation to develop an application for it.
The mail application for the IS04 is as bad as it gets, as are various other software related aspects of the phone... which is a shame because otherwise it's quite a capable device.
Hopefully issues like this one will be addressed at the same time as the rather late 2.2 update, but I wouldn't keep your fingers crossed.
I've been trying to extract the carrier mail application from other the au android devices and modifying it so it can install/communicate with au's servers on the IS04, but I've gotten nowhere with the security.
In case you run into any other trouble, other problems people have had with the IS04 include battery charging issues (phone runs off battery once it reaches 100% and never starts charging again, even while plugged in), contact list problems (multiple and non interchangeable contact lists for different applications), various settings resetting themselves (aforementioned mail application mainly), lost emails/contacts and weird memory restrictions (for storage).
For the record, DoCoMo's version of the Regza phone (and their other Android devices) use a relatively decent universal phone mail application, while au has gone with letting the manufacturers put together their own. I'll let you work out which decision turned out better.
In the meantime, I suggest having your wife translate the settings so you can have it up and running the way you like, and then just memorising the basic navigation and functions.
Edit: To answer your question, correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the weird MMS system for all three major carriers in Japan is still using the I-mode transport protocol.
just FYI:
2013 is around the corner and with Android 2.2.2 now (still) on the Regza IS04 nothing has really changed much.
The mail app - and other default apps - are still in Japanese only and will not be changed.
The general feedback from their tech support is: Learn Japanese or get lost (though said very politely, with smiles and bows and not in such a direct manner )
Have a great 2013 all

So I have spent some initial time looking at this.
com.evenwell.autoregistration.Caivs has some worrying looking stuff.
There is a website here with the username and password in cleartext in the jars: https://www.c2dms.com Nothing visible/doable once logged in from what I could see.
It also appears to be collecting fine-grained location data, e.g. this is the output from logcat (I have obfuscated my own GPS coords here, but they are 6 digits of accuracy)
Code:
2019-03-30 19:38:21.406 15139-15159/? D/[CAIVS] LocationFinder: LocationUpdated: 3.location:Location[gps 51.xxxxxx,-0.xxxxxx hAcc=39 et=+1d19h59m28s923ms alt=102.50201416015625 vel=3.09 bear=14.3 vAcc=24 sAcc=3 bAcc=10 {Bundle[mParcelledData.dataSize=96]}]
2019-03-30 19:38:21.406 15139-15159/? D/[CAIVS] LocationFinder: updateLocation: gps accuracy:38.592003
2019-03-30 19:38:21.406 15139-15159/? D/[CAIVS] LocationFinder: updateLocation: is in accuracy :1000
com.evenwell.autoregistration.Utils.RegisterManager seems to be doing some scheduled checks and doing something with this collected data in the first 24 hours, then phased at 15 and 90 days. It is not clear what is happening having only done an initial scan over this.
It does look like they are doing some checking to see if the device is a Nokia device and selectively doing or not doing location-based stuff based on that, e.g. from com.evenwell.autoregistration.Utils.GetInfo
Code:
2019-03-30 20:09:25.108 16558-16577/? D/[CAIVS] GetInfo: getCellLocation: in black list
Further investigation probably warranted. This looks a bit suspect and might only send data on specific days (and would explain why I did not notice anything outbound over my 4 day period of checking before).

I found this in English: https://web.archive.org/web/20081027134825/http://www.cseed....
Quote: "CAIVS notifies our system when the handset is purchased. Data includes the date, time, and location that a SIM card is first inserted into the handset, the inserted SIM card's telecom operator, the handset's operating system, the handset model and phone number, and even the time when it is first turned on. "
WTF.
It is not clear at the moment if there is a blacklist on the MCC code going on in com.evenwell.autoregistration.Util.XMLHelper that reads from /product/etc/AutoRegConfig.xml is this line:
Code:
<NOKIA>
<REJECTMCCLIST>232,206,284,219,280,230,238,248,244,208,262,202,216,274,510,272,222,247,295,228,246,270,278,204,242,260,268,226,231,293,655,214,240,228,234,235,520</REJECTMCCLIST>
</NOKIA>
These are - I think - the Mobile Country Codes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_country_code) it gets from the cellsite. This list is basically the EU + South Africa, Thailand and Indonesia. Don't know what things are like in SA, Thailand or Indonesia but in the EU this sort of thing would not be acceptable. Looks also like there is a hard-coded short-circuit in getLocation() in com.evenwell.autoregistration.Util.GetInfo to always return no location lat-longs which appears to trigger another shortcut in RegisterManager that shortcuts out to the "Caivs not in registration phase" log output which returns without triggering the sendToServer() calls on other code paths.
I am not convinced that this will never send location back, but looks like it might have been updated with to prevent phoning home in those countries in the MCC list (and maybe by hard-coded shortcuts the actual code). This would meet with what was said with there recent phoning home response from Nokia - i.e. (https://translate.google.com/translate?u=https://nrkbeta.no/...)

As foobarbazetc noted, the listed packages have been specifically developed for Nokia (HMD). And although many only actually send telemetry on Nokia phones that have been sold in China, there is still quite a lot of data at stake that can be used to track the device when combined with data from other sources.
I wanted to share my findings to create the awareness that the mechanisms are there and it only takes a little misconfiguration (see https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/03/hmd-admits-the-nokia...) and all this goes straight to the Chinese authorities.
