Which htc should i buy? - General Questions and Answers

I guys i want you guys to give me a opinion on what to buy. I had the htc tytn 1 and ll but they were to big. Then i tried something smaller, the htc touch dual but was just slow and performance wasn't what i expect it. From that i went to htc touch diamond, it was beautifull, small everything i could ask for but first day i used batterie was so poor. In a half day my batterie is always dead i ended up selling it. I have a nokia but i miss my windows mobile. What should i buy ? Htc diamond was almost perfect but battery was very bad. I use my phone alot and battery as to last at least a day. Plz guys give me your opinion. Thanks

try the motorola q 9c it has really good battery life and it is small. no touch screen though

It has to have touch screen other wise it wont feel like a full windows mobile. Someone told me there a extended batterie for diamond. They say phone will look bigger and all that. Have anyone try that and does the extended batterie really makes a difference?

Just to warn you, I hear that you can't use the Diamond's GPS if you're also using the extended battery.
I heard the Touch HD's battery life is excellent.

But the dimension of htc touch hd is bit big like tytn isn't it? Wat about the new htc touch 3g? And can someone confirm that extended batterie will make the gps stop working? If it does why does that happen ? :-(

why does it make the gps not work?

I read after doing a search that some batteries do that, maybe cause bad quality. But some extended batteries dont affect anything on the phone. What u guys say about htc touch 3g?

Touch HD is About 1/2 thinner than the Tytn...

Touch Cruise 2009 maybe?
gr. Rob

I think the hd is about same dimension and weight as the omnia and that's to big and heavy for me. That's why i say htc diamond was almost perfect. I dont like something to big and heavy.

Thank you for the info. I think diamond is gonna be phone that suites me the most with a extended battery. I know other htc are brilliant machines like the hd but is just to big for me. The htc touch pro is it about the same size as htc diamond with extended battery? And how battery on htc touch pro? I would of like aswell some info on touch 3g but i guess ain't so popular yet..

Is HTC Diamond a good new Phone to get ?

I been struggling between these new phone, and wondering which is the best to get. I'm leaning toward Diamond since I could get it by tomorrow, but heard many bad things with it's battery life, lack of memory card slot, and such. So can anyone tell me if I should get the Diamond or should I just give it alittle wait for something else ?
HTC Touch Diamond, HTC Touch HD, Samsung Omnia, IPhone 3G, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, Andoid? ......... etc.
Thanks in advance !
The diamond is a decent choice for a new phone, however if you can afford it, hold out for the Touch HD, Xperia, Or Dream/G1.
Those 3 phones will be the most killer handsets to hit the market this year.
Touch Diamond is right below them, still making a great handset. But go with a more powerful device if you can. They become outdated quickly.
The thing with the touch HD is that is is almost exactly the same spec to the touch pro including the same chipset and battery, combined with a massive screen the HD must draw more power, its basic physics and since it uses the same chipset its doubtful it will have much in the way of more power efficency so to the point the battery must be pretty poor compared to a pro.
So Yes the HD sounds great but the battery question needs to be answered first
Diamond in my opinion is a bit to small and the battery is very poor otherwise its very good
Pro is a bit more chunky than the diamond but is actually much the same size as previous generation of phones even with a keyboard its smaller than an O2 Orbit.
Iphone looks nice, and does its job well, but in my opinion its poor quality your very limited in what you can do with it and i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole due to its big brother style atitude to software, music and phone contract.
the other two i have no experiece with so cant really comment, for me im going to see how i like the Pro when O2 releases it, hopefully the question on HD battery life can be answered by then, then i can make my mind up.
As stated above, wait for the last models of 2008:
Omnia, HD, G1, Xperia
And after that you can make your choice
Diamond is not bad, but there are much better models
Depends on how much you want to spend.............
Diamonds are forever!
I know people go on about the Diamonds' battery life, but considering the power and size of this little device, I wouldn't consider it useless!
I get a good two days use out of mine... a few calls, loads of internet browsing, WiFi use, games, and music via a bluetooth headset. I really don't think that's bad. Let's face it, the only phones that last a week on one charge these days are feeble lack-lustre, brick sized devices.
Another point to remember is that because the TF3D interface is sooo much fun to play with, people are probably using their Diamonds' a whole lot more than their previous devices, therefore giving the impression that the battery life is poor.
The Touch HD does look good, but remember it's bigger and will be more power hungry! I think the Diamond is the best in it's class... best size... best specs... best TFT... I LOVE IT!!!
I was researching the HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro; But I have now pre-ordered the HTC Touch HD due to it's spec's & state-of-art design!

My Orbit can last up to ~8 hours using its GPS on a standard 1250 battery
HTC Touch Diamond according to HTC, will last 2 hours, even taking in to account battery sizes, the diamond isnt very power economical.
But your right, dont use the GPS and the phone isnt to bad, indeed it would probably last as long as my orbit so in that respect it does a a good job, the problem with that way of thinking is if i leave it on my desk in standby and never use it at all it will last for a week or more
but seriously its a great little PDA and if size is important than thats a winner, if high usability is, than perhaps its not the phone for you.

Thats a bold thing to do, unreviewed, unproven apart from a couple of vids an a few snaps, ignoring the bigger screen and the better camera that the HD has and the keyboard that the Pro has they are identical i believe, oh not forgetting the 3.5mm jack on the HD.
What im concerned about is the battery on the HD, running that thing may take a lot more juice an the pro wasnt great in the first place.
Thats a bold gamble, one i think i'll wait until the reviews start flying about giving ideas of its good and bad points.
Thank alot for the reply guys !
I have decided just to get the Diamond since it's a decent phone and I could get my hand on it right now. I'll pass on those new phones since they might have the same flaw or even more problems. I'll be a proud owner of Diamond in a few hours.

MWG Phones

just wondered if the MWG phones like the Zinc 2, Atom V are as good as the HTC ones, because they are so much cheaper and i want to buy one but dont know why they are cheap compared to HTC. Somebody any views?
Example the Zinc 2 is faster than my HTC and it cost £199 brand new/unlocked! very tempting,.
Appreciate anu feedback before i make my decision and buy it
I have the zinc 2 excellent phone solid and fast good battery life and for only £199 bargin. I always wanted the htc touch cruise but a bit out of my price range so i got this then a mate of mine got the htc cruise and he had the diamond, had a mess round with them and i would have my mwg over the them 2 any day.

thanks, exactly what i thought! very cheap compared to htc and they seem very similar. time to order! thanks
The Zinc-II is a decent device for the price, BUT the GPS takes quite some time to acquire its initial position fix, and if you go into areas where the signal coverage is weak it will quickly lose the signal.
The keyboard is useless, it is like typing on a slab of illuminated plastic there is no feedback from the keys at all.
The screen is one of the best I have seen on a PDA, very vibrant colours and excellent contrast, battery life is good, although the battery meter seems to have a mind of its own
I have been using the Zinc-II for a number of months now, it is far from the best device, but for the price it is a good buy - Mike

SPB shell vs HTC sense on Hd2?

HI
I am currently looking at Hd2 vs Nokia N900. Tough choice for me and the battery situation on the Hd2 has me worried. Anyway, on googling the battery situation and how to get the most out of it I found a page that said the HTC sense takes alot of the bettery drain but installing SPD Shell is far better.
Anyway - just installed it on my HTC Wizard and quite impressed.
I was wondering if anyone else uses it over the HTC sense and if so, does it indeed improve battery life?
Thanks
Scott
I was very tempted to go back to ms 3.5.2, but after a week with leo's manila I gotta say, that in my opinion it looks better and what more it is quite well designed. battery life is nothing special indeed comparing to my previous device x1. xperia could survive up to 3 days of normal use, while on hd2 I only get about 24 hours. it is not too bad, and I can live with charging it every day though.
I was also torn between those two devices (hd2 and n900) but hd2 is soooo damn sweet, that I couldn't resist. I do not regret it. see... I'm not a linux guy nor h4x0r, so more likely I wouldn't get that n900 feeling anyway, if You know what I mean. with winmo I just feel like I came back home...

Xperia or touch pro ?

Hi . I been without a htc device since my diamond now wanna get a device again. I'm not certain between a touch pro or a xperia. Could someone give me a advice? One thing that put me off about the diamond was the battery , that use to last me like 5 or 6 hours with my use. A phone my make it tru the day at least for me. Plz give me advice..
Go for Rhodium definitely!
yep, stick with HTC TP2
Htc touch pro 2 is more heavy than almost other device here. Plus my money available for a phone i cant think that big. It has to have a keyboard this time. That's why i said between the xperia and touch pro. My head going more to the xperia side manly cause of better battery. I'm just to scared to find a very poor battery on a htc again. Plus i been hearing good things about xperia..

motorola defy pro

so i use my chacha, but it's a really old phone with a silly amount of memory. i assume everyone else here sticks with it simply for the keyboard which is fantastic. i just came across the defy pro from motorola and see that it is coming to rogers. is anyone else considering this as a viable "upgrade" to the chacha? it looks like a ruggedized chacha with a better processor and hopefully more memory. any thoughts for an upgrade path? portrait qwerty selection is getting sparse...
I don't like the look of it. Plus its Motorola so the bootloader will must probally be locked.
Like the Trackpad,
1. But still, it's Ugly :silly:
2. We need a bigger screen + a trackpad, i think samsung made one?
3. Link to phones with keypad; http://goo.gl/xfu6L

samsung is coming out the the galaxy chat, but it is really low specd; more so than the moto defy pro. the other galaxy pros are really poor too. super low res screen.
I'm also thinking on switching to this phone. its great, except for the screen/camera/RAM , its better than Chacha. i love chacha, but, low memory , short battery life , as a matter of fact the most annoying thing is the battery, i cant stand to charge it 1-2 times per day.... sorry but 1700mAh and 1ghz procesor and 1gb internal memory are more than enough for me to buy defy pro , and get rid of chacha.... dunno, maybe thats just me .
And its not ugly at all, just different from chacha, which also was not the prettiest out there...and its the only curved phone )
Now it all depends on the price of the Defy Pro, we'll see when it comes out very soon.
not the prettiest ???

hh, my friend bought this, just for the look - went from an iphone!, he is a hipster too -
2. Just get 2 batteries, wifi eat much, even with a sensation XL
3. The moto is year after, but still on ginger.
4- this thread is an AD for moto...
defy pro came out yesterday on rogers. looks aside (subjective), i dont see any reason why this phone isnt superior in every single way. i agree with musash1, the battery and snapdragon processor alone are worth the upgrade.
sure, gingerbread is a slight let down, but it's not like the chacha formally supported ics either. hopefully we'll get lucky and someone will port cm10 to the defy pro like they did to the defy. seems like it would have a larger dev community too...

does it have a notification led?
notification led like chacha that blinks for only 5mins. kek
..thats it i'm not buying defy pro, i cant stand ledless phone )
I'm sure that can be changed?
In getting one brought back from Canada in a few weeks. Retails at 275cdn I watched one on ebay close at over 575 plus post!
I'm not getting into sell just pointing out that getting one on ebay would be a dear way to go about it

Bought one from Rogers last week - keyboard is terrible (too stiff), battery life is not as good as it should be (it's a 1700mah battery), phone is too thick compared to chacha. Good amount of buttons though! and good placement of d-pad (in the center).
Returned it and went back to ChaCha

I WANTED a d.pad, but now, no, even the screnn of my chacha is good, small phone, easy in pocket, Just give a bad-ass battery, and remove the zoom function from apps.
So the defy is not a good replacement for chacha then.

sooooo sad. i was hoping the keyboard was going to more rim-like and less motorola pro+ like. moto keyboards tend to be very stiff, but i figured this was better. it was even rumored they licensed the keyboard from rim. i would have got one already if they werent going for 600+usd on ebay. i might reconsider getting it, but i might give it a go nonetheless. all these app updates are chewing up my chacha's tiny memory...
I don't speak for anybody with a chacha, but I bought the defy pro and am loving it, I've had my hands on the s3 and the note, but the defy is a great size and a great keyboard, it is a tad stiff but it's really not something that should prevent you from buying it. Everything on it is surprisingly zippy and smooth.

good to know! i have to believe there are still a lot of people looking for chacha replacements and are trying to use bandaids to fix fundamental short comings.
please let me know if anyone is in canada and would like to ship one to me!!

Same processor, same memory, same keyboard, less battery, more expensive, not waterproof and dust/sandproof.
