Hi all i hope you can help me, i have a rc8 which i wanted to root so i followed this tut http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480 , everything went fine until i upgraded it 2 the patched rc8, now it wont let me sign in using my account details. says that it cant communicate with google servers.
Ok, Since my last post iv tryed flashing it again and again with both rc7 and rc8, and im still getting the same problem. it wont let me sign in to google, i cant connect to google server, so im guessing 3g's not working on my phone as the 2 little arrows arnt flashing, iv also tryed different apn's with no luck.
You should check to see if Data roaming is enabled or not, sometimes if it is disabled the phone wont connect to the data network. After a system update/downgrade. This happend to me after i downgraded my G1.
Just reboot the phone, try to login and you should get a message saying you have no data connectivity (or something like that, its been a while since i messed with that) then just enable 'Data Roaming' and try again. It is important to wait for the message concerning connectivity to appear as i belive it is the only way to access that menu(correct me if im wrong).
It is ofcourse also important to make sure you have all the right APN settings and whatnot right first. Good luck
Hi Seanambers, thanx for you r reply.
I have no way in checking or changing the roaming settings on my phone, as im at the signing on screen all im able to do is create a google account to sign in with, use my current account to sign in with and change my apn's. I really dont understand whats happened. iv tryed my sim in my old phone and the data services are workin.
Well yeah, thats kinda what i mean there is no way to change the data network settings before you have logged in unless this dialog pops up. I am not familiar with the UK firmware but on the US firmware it gives you a message about connectivity where one is able to access the network menu and enable Data roaming.
You should note that this connectivity dialog dosent always appear at least from my experience, but when i rebooted the phone and after 1 or 2 attempts to login in it appeared.
This may not even be the solution to your problem if you can see a edge symbol og a 3g symbol on the status line then this isnt gonna change anything for you.
If you still arent able to get it to work did you buy it at a store? If so flash the original RC7 onto it and take the phone to them and ask if they can fix it =)
Good luck
Cheers =)
hey again, is there a way to compleatly restore the phone to rc8 uk i mean so it reinstall boot recovery system every thing, if not ill try rc7, also link to said files would be nice, thank you
Had the same thing with connecting to google servers, but I found out it only works when I'm on GPRS. 3G somehow wouldn't let me connect, but when I got into the phone it worked again (I think). I have wifi at home, so I'm usually on that. And there was a time when 3G completely stopped working. Only GPRS worked. I installed RC8 (had RC30) and after a few tries it suddenly worked. I don't know I had 3G or GPRS when I connected to google servers. But you should try.
Also, I think there is a way to connect to the servers using wifi. But it's messy and you have to have root. I read it somewhere on the forums (activate without dataplan or smt)
You can bypass the registration screen. Read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452316
yeah i looked at that, but dont i need to have usb debussing on for adb to work.
Guys I am really struggling with this phone. I have wasted 2 entire workdays now trying to get it how I like it. Yesterday I rooted with motofail2go and ran into an issue with usb only recognizing as charge only. Turns out I had to enable debug mode, turn off the phone, turn it back on, and then disable debug mode. Fixed the problem at 130 PM today.
At 145 PM today after doing this fix and running an ap called reverse tether my mobile data has disabled itself and I cannot get it to turn back on. Wifi is fine. Like I said I ran into some problems with debug mode switching settings around even when outside of debug mode and I cant for the life of me figure out how to reset my data connection.
Key fact: Even though the phone shows no data, when it boots up gmail always pops up with hundreds of new messages that I havent had the time to check nor did I choose to open the gmail ap. Its like gmail can still access the internet but it is disabled for me or any other function. For all I know it could simply be chached messages showing up automatically without checking for or recieving new messages.
I have done a soft reset and cycled airplane mode a few times. I have cycled thru the available network options and still nothing.
I am really having a hard time enjoying this phone as much as I would like to becaue of these weird issues. This is my first Motorola and I must say I am not impressed. And then it is sad coming to the XDA photon Q forum and there is no organization, no stickys, no useful threads hilighted, its like no one even cares about this phone. I have no clue what I am even doing when rooting, unlocking, bla bla whatever but at least the other forums are well organized and thoughtfully moderated. I dont even t think the mods here have the Photon...
Rant off... TIA
I seemed to have all kinds of random issues and problems when I first got this phone rooting and applying the first few mods, but...knock on wood they all worked themselves out and it's been solid.
A few weeks ago during that time I too experienced the loss of data issue. I was on wifi all day while at work tweaking & playing with the phone, then when I left work,...bam,..no wifi. Reboot, nothing. Airplane on/off, nothing. Tried updating the PRL, weird thing is I could watch it turn the 3G on to "phone home" to Sprint, then it would say the PRL was current and the data would be back off. WTF? Haha..
Surprisingly, what ended up working for me was the SprintZone app.
I opened the Sprint Zone app.
Scoll to the bottom and in the lower right there's a "Help" tile.
Scroll to the bottom of that next page and at the very bottom it says Update Profile.
After hitting that, I had my data back and haven't had the problem since that one time.
I wanted, so badly, for this to fix the issue. I just knew it would... but it didnt. I updated my PRL and Profile by wifi along with the Sprint Zone update you mentioned but still nothing, only wifi.
Can Sprint do any sort of reset?
Is there any way that Moto or Sprint have an auto off switch installed in the phone or the programming that is triggered by something like tethering without a tethering plan? Or rooting without using the Moto unlock key via motofail2go?
On a more general note can someone please tell me how to transfer files from my internal storage to the SD card? My internal memory is literally all used up by 2 games and my usual apps... i keep getting the low volume space warning popping up. Pretty ridiculous for a brand new top shelf phone.
I don't think it will make a difference, but make sure you are NOT on wifi when you try the SprintZone update.
I wasn't connected to wifi when it worked for me. Probably separate causes behind our similar issue, so what worked for me may not for you, but worth a shot.
I found out what it is:
Why did my mobile internet stop after using this app?
It has been reported very rarely that mobile internet stops working after using the app. This is due to the Appear as 3G feature.
If the 3G option is causing you problems, you can turn it off in the settings menu.
If this rare problem happens, to restore your device's internet, go to Mobile Network settings > Acess Point Names (APN) and choose Reset To Default from menu, or manually add your carriers APN.

Can anyone tell me how to reset my APN on the photon Q?
To transfer files from your internal sd card to the external sd card you can use a file manager like Astro or es file manager. I use es file manager personally, it has all the features of root explorer in a free app with easy to use interface. The internal storage is marked as the /sdcard directory and the external sd card is marked as /mnt/external1
In es file manager just enable the root options in settings and navigate up one level from the /sdcard directory to find the /mnt directory.
The built in file manager will do it too, but the options are limited and interface is clumsy.

Short and sweet. I am unable to activate data all of a sudden on Sprint. My other family member's phones work fine, but I cannot update the profile or the PRL. It just says "Network Error, try again later." Phone calls work fine, and my baseband and all that jazz are showing. It also shows 3G occasionally, but it still says network disconnected. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Update: I've reflashed EFS, and that seems to get me data on most ROMs, except Android L and stock 4.4.4. The second they try to do hands-free/update profile or prl, the update fails and I can't get data. Any ideas? Could it possibly be my SIM card? What's weird is that even when I have a data connection(like on the restored efs), I still can't update profile or PRL...
I've searched the internet for the past week, and nothing has worked. I haven't had a chance to call Sprint and complain, but this is starting to be quite frustrating. I've had data the whole time, but I still can't update profile/prl or complete the hands-free activation. So I can't even go back to stock, because when I do the factory image, the hands-free fails.
Eww sorry man. Probably APN.

What the.... So apparently sometime last night, my PRL updated on its own, like it's supposed to(old one was from old efs restore). But I still can't manually force the two to updates. So hands-free still fails upon a reset. This practically confirms that my phone is fine, because clearly it can receive the updates, just not pull them down. I'll call them today and #blamesprint.
APNs should be restored upon efs flash right? If not, how do I check them? The APN menu in settings doesn't appear when on the Sprint network.

You'll have to download an APN app off of the Play Store. When I had Sprint there was weird issues with the bearer field. Also they have like 4 different APNs stock and there was one like i.ispnt or something that seemed to work but you had to select between bearer EHRPD (LTE network routed EVDO) or LTE.
All APN apps are giving me an error saying SIM card unknown, even when installed to system. One even says Virgin Mobile. Could this be an issue with my SIM card?
Could be a problem with your SIM card. I'd just take it into a Sprint store quickly and get it resolved.
I fiddled with APNs, there were 12 there(!), so I reentered the correct 5 and could reliably get data. I factory reset and now my phone is unprogrammed(no MIN and wrong phone number), I'm just going to go yell at Sprint now. :fingers-crossed:
Sprint was useless, the tech kept blaming the phone, saying things like "Nexus phones don't have dialer codes" and "your IMEI is bad(WTF?)", then she noticed the padlock on the boot screen where she refused to go further, saying that I tampered with my device. After I informed her that it was MY device(purchased unlocked from Google) and that Sprint had no legal claim to that device, she redirected me to Advanced Phone Support. She also refused to give me a new UICC card, saying that "it couldn't be the problem." I'm done with Sprint for the week, so I'm just going to go custom again and just set the APNs properly each time. Even on stock/L, I can just flash the Sprint APN zip to automatically fix them, correct? If so, where could I find the latest APNs? The latest zip I have is from March or so I believe. Thanks!
Also out of curiousity, how hard do you think it would be to force my way out of a contract ETF-free? I figure if they can't prove it's my device that's faulty, and they aren't giving me a product that I'm paying for.......

thats easy force it to data roaming and start streaming the heck out of anything and everything overnight. Sprint will terminate your contract if your roaming data is consistently to high.
So I purchased a Boost Mobile Moto G 1st Generation device today and want to use it as a spare wifi android device at home only.
The model I have is the XT1031 Boost Mobile CDMA. I went through a whole bunch of threads here and got my device updated to Stock 4.4.4 Kitkat [Falcon], bootloader unlocked, rooted with Super User, and the latest TWRP [the one for XT1032 worked perfectly fine!) I also found the very long paragraph bootloader unlocked nag screen on startup logo removal zip and that was sweet! Thanks to everyone here (so many of you from all of these topics and work beyond imaginable!) I also went ahead and installed Xposed Framework, Gravitybox, F-Droid + AdAway... will need to fiddle around with XPrivacy a bit more or come back to a really old LBE Master Privacy Guard project that seems to be translated now and working for a lot of devices. Now just waiting for the stable Lollipop image to come out and enjoy the next generation of our OS!
So with that all said (loving the device), on each boot right before "Starting Services", the Activation Screen comes up. It starts to first check for Profile, PRL Updates but fails and gives the error : Airplane Mode.
Anyone know a workaround to get that Activation screen disabled from appearing again (if you're not ever planning to use voice/data but only wifi)? I thought after I put the device on Wifi-Airplane Mode, it would go away, but it always comes up. My only workaround (which really isn't a workaround ) on each time I power back up/reboot the Moto G, that it comes up with that message, I just click "Next" and it will go to the Android Home screen just fine. and connect straight to my wifi network while already in airplane mode and work fine like that .
Anyways, it's a very minor thing, but maybe you all could direct me to a link or reply on what to check out if that's something easy to modify? Please let me know if you need any other information from my device or setup thus far to help you with my question!
edit: Hmm, now the activation notice doesn't appear on reboot but a notification at the top (white triangle) with SIM Card Error comes up. The device will hang with starting services in the center. If I press the power button once and press it again, I can swipe away the notification of the SIM Card Error and it will go to Home and everything works. If I click on the Sim Card Error, it gives me a message saying to either power off or continue, stating the device cannot work without a SIM Card.... (this is all while in WiFi-Airplane Mode). I thought it was an error or issue of Xposed/Gravity Box but uninstalling/reinstalling those didn't make a difference and the SIM Card Error still shows up on reboot. Strange thing, I thought the XT1031 Boost CDMA doesn't have a SIM Card Slot. Anyways, if I disable wifi and disable airplane mode and reboot, the original activation screen comes up again... and I can skip it and then go back to Wifi-Airplane mode... Okay, hopefully that gives some insight and maybe someone will know what I am talking about!
Rooted sprint s6 with BOL1_SPR.zip... keeps rebooting after "hands free data manager"
I have a sprint s6, and just loaded G920PVPU3BOL1_G920PSPT3BOL1_SPR firmware on the phone. I then rooted it and got everything working fine.
However, after one reboot, every time I reboot now, I get the "voicemail" icon even though I don't use the local voicemail and that stupid "hands free activation" configuring your device for data and voice...
Shortly afterward, it reboots to TWRP. I tell it to reboot normally again, and it does, and then a short time later, the same thing happens.
How do I fix this and stop this "hands free activation" thing from doing this?
--
Also, the time is completely screwed up. Like 7 hours off. It resets it back to January 1 2016.
I tried moving SprintDM.apk, and it stopped the hands free activation, but the reboots continue shortly after the phone is in the normal operating system.
What is the problem? I keep having this issue with some other ROMs as well. Also, it pops open some visual voicemail thing.
I think it has something to with activating the phone? The phone tries to activate and keeps rebooting, even when in airplane mode. It boots to recovery mode, then when i tell it to reboot normally it does, and the time is back to 1206AM jan 1st.
---
reflashed stock rom and didn't wipe first... the reboot issue is gone away, but it's still trying to activate. I did do "rtn for sprint" the other day when flashing... i don't know if doing that once causes this issue? Does it matter if I had previously done "rtn for sprint" from odin?
---
The first time I flashed, some samsung prompt asked if i want to activate some kind of protection or something in case my phone is ever stolen, for remote wipe, or something. I selected yes. I've never seen that prompt again. Is that possibly what this reboot issue is related to? How do I turn that off?
