Short and sweet. I am unable to activate data all of a sudden on Sprint. My other family member's phones work fine, but I cannot update the profile or the PRL. It just says "Network Error, try again later." Phone calls work fine, and my baseband and all that jazz are showing. It also shows 3G occasionally, but it still says network disconnected. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Update: I've reflashed EFS, and that seems to get me data on most ROMs, except Android L and stock 4.4.4. The second they try to do hands-free/update profile or prl, the update fails and I can't get data. Any ideas? Could it possibly be my SIM card? What's weird is that even when I have a data connection(like on the restored efs), I still can't update profile or PRL...
I've searched the internet for the past week, and nothing has worked. I haven't had a chance to call Sprint and complain, but this is starting to be quite frustrating. I've had data the whole time, but I still can't update profile/prl or complete the hands-free activation. So I can't even go back to stock, because when I do the factory image, the hands-free fails.
Eww sorry man. Probably APN.

What the.... So apparently sometime last night, my PRL updated on its own, like it's supposed to(old one was from old efs restore). But I still can't manually force the two to updates. So hands-free still fails upon a reset. This practically confirms that my phone is fine, because clearly it can receive the updates, just not pull them down. I'll call them today and #blamesprint.
APNs should be restored upon efs flash right? If not, how do I check them? The APN menu in settings doesn't appear when on the Sprint network.

You'll have to download an APN app off of the Play Store. When I had Sprint there was weird issues with the bearer field. Also they have like 4 different APNs stock and there was one like i.ispnt or something that seemed to work but you had to select between bearer EHRPD (LTE network routed EVDO) or LTE.
All APN apps are giving me an error saying SIM card unknown, even when installed to system. One even says Virgin Mobile. Could this be an issue with my SIM card?
Could be a problem with your SIM card. I'd just take it into a Sprint store quickly and get it resolved.
I fiddled with APNs, there were 12 there(!), so I reentered the correct 5 and could reliably get data. I factory reset and now my phone is unprogrammed(no MIN and wrong phone number), I'm just going to go yell at Sprint now. :fingers-crossed:
Sprint was useless, the tech kept blaming the phone, saying things like "Nexus phones don't have dialer codes" and "your IMEI is bad(WTF?)", then she noticed the padlock on the boot screen where she refused to go further, saying that I tampered with my device. After I informed her that it was MY device(purchased unlocked from Google) and that Sprint had no legal claim to that device, she redirected me to Advanced Phone Support. She also refused to give me a new UICC card, saying that "it couldn't be the problem." I'm done with Sprint for the week, so I'm just going to go custom again and just set the APNs properly each time. Even on stock/L, I can just flash the Sprint APN zip to automatically fix them, correct? If so, where could I find the latest APNs? The latest zip I have is from March or so I believe. Thanks!
Also out of curiousity, how hard do you think it would be to force my way out of a contract ETF-free? I figure if they can't prove it's my device that's faulty, and they aren't giving me a product that I'm paying for.......

thats easy force it to data roaming and start streaming the heck out of anything and everything overnight. Sprint will terminate your contract if your roaming data is consistently to high.

Hello .. I have my HTC hero back on sprint. but no EVDO or DATA connectiuon at all.. I went to the corporate store and of course the MSL code did not work.. so i told the guy well use 000000 and the guy said .. so u messed with the phone...and i had to say yes...therefore they are not messing with it at all...even when i putted the right MSL.. L*( so. what can I do to get my EVDO DATA back?
I can make calls etc...
my other question is...
if you flash your phone..with STOCK(RADIO,STOCK APPS) and you changed the MSL before...will the STOCK flash do all that it suppose to do?
I had the same sort of thing happen to me when I was trying to pass a rooted Pre to a friend. Using the RUU might sort it out, if it doesn't call customer care and ask them to send out the hands-free provisioning signal again. That will put the right info on your phone. Most of all, don't panic All will be well once again.
That's a problem..the hands free activation starts working when you turn oin the phone but it does not complete it gives an error 1012

that's probably due to the MSL not matching the one on file. have you tried rewriting the correct MSL code to the phone? the handsfree activation and profile update should work after that.
Yes I did that...They gave me the MSL...and It does matches the one on file...I am going to try using the RUU again ..
fix
Take the phone back to the store all they have to do is reprovision the phone. If the won't work on the.phone factory reset the phone. I work for Sprint and either will work.
But I am thinking that Update Profile...and Hands Free activation need a EV or 3g whatever connection...right? I don't have it there is no ICON
Just to make sure.. I am running the RUU properly...I have to go to the bootloader( 3 android skaters) and select Fastboot right?
3 things I can think of that worked for me the other day, you will need your MSL and do a ##RTN# (##786#) hit menu then reset. It will ask for MSL but it will also delete everything. should work as long as you have 1.5 based off the 1.29 or 1.56.. Or you can try ##DATA# (##3282#) and reset the data profile. If that does not work call sprint or go into your local store and have them reset your Vision username. 1 of those 3 things should get you where you need to be. If they do not work it is more than likely hardware related.
Just wanted to note as I am still an active employee for sprint as well, a data provision will not work, they will only be able to go these routes in this case, so def. back up any information you may want to keep if you have not already.
ok thanks for all the replies...I just came from a Sprint store, and they guy said that my DATA was not provision properly and I have to wait 1 hour take out the battery ... and turn the phone on again..that should do it...if it does not I ll call Sprint and have them reset my Vision Password ... Thankss!
Ok I think I know what's the problem...First I don't have a recovery thing....HOME+POWER ON brings me to a Exclamation ICON I guess there is where my info should be ... and because the phone was rooted before that image is gone...so the ##3282# USERNAME menu is empty...where can I get that info? that suppose to be there? IP, etc
Your data information will populate automatically once provisioning completes, Id try calling tech support having them reset your vision user name not password then preforming a RTN or doing the RUU prior which should reset everything to what it needs to be prior to root.

FIX
It is not the username and password. It is the fact that the phone is not recognizing there is a network available i have seen this issue a bunch of times. you are going to have to do a hard reset (not a ##786#)or you can take it back to the store and have them provision the phone through icss.
I have done Hard Resets more than 5 times. now ... So i am getting a new phone, and that's it .. I'm tired of goind around with my phone..having i consirderation that my phone was in Metropcs and then to Sprint , maybe that screwed something, ahd the guys over in the corporate store don't want to work on it.
if you were in my area i would help!!

Hard resets will do nothing... Run the RUU... Your MSL has no ties to your provisioning.. So I don't know why that keeps coming up.. I'm not sure how Metro does things, but to take that ESN to another carrier usually needs a radio flash and if they had done that, you will not be able to use it unless you reflash the sprint RUU...
You cannot exchange a phone that you have maliciously changed... It has nothing to do with the phone, its the user....

Hey, he bought the phone. There is nothing 'malicious' about him modifying or customizing 'his' phone. The only thing malicious here is your attitude. Well, that and the phone company Nazis warping the brilliant idea that Google had when the Android was first conceived. It wasn't supposed to be about control, or about 'nickle and dime-ing' their customers to death reselling features that are already built into the OS.
Grow a soul, or at least a pair.
Picked up my phone at radio shack and after 3 hrs it hadn't become active on the Sprint network yet. Whenever I tried to place a call it would tell me this phone was not authorized.
Called Sprint and they gave me directions to manually activate it on the network, figured I would share with anybody who has the same problem.
Need to double check they have the correct ESN in their system. It can be read off the box or off the back of the phone under the battery.
Next, they'll give you your MSL (six digit number) to enter, ##XXXXXX# .
Choose edit from the menu and then enter your mobile phone number into the mobile directory number and MSID fields. Hit Menu->Commit.
It will reboot the phone and when it comes up, starts hands free activation. Go ahead and hit cancel, since we manually set it up. Skip the updates and it should be activate on the network now!

So, it is safe to turn on the phone? It won't automatically install the OTA update?

no, i twont auto install anything. it prompts you for each update and you can choose yes or no. in fact, mine actually skipped checking for software updates and only checked for PRL update and firmware update. it updated the PRL but no firmware update.

When you mention "Menu", I'm assuming you mean the EPST menu? ##3282#? I can access and edit all that information using that programming code.

wow, old thread to be bumped. i almost didnt believe it was really mine when i saw my name on it.
the directions I was given over the phone from sprint were, just as stated in the OP, to use the ##MSL# menu, not the ##DATA# (##3283#) menu to provision the phone programming it for use on the Sprint network.
I did this several times and believe it updated my PRI from 1.34 to 1.40. Is this possible? I have been seeing over the forum that a ##768# Factory Reset will cause it to Hands-Free Activation and trying several times can get you back up to 1.40PRI however doing a ##3282#, Edit Mode, Data Profile Restore gets you to the same point and I am pretty sure this is what caused me to get back to the 1.40pri and avoid a Factory Reset. Is this at all possible Joey?

well if it really worked for you, i'm guessing it is. doesn't surprise me, i dont see why a data wipe would be necessary to update the PRI. So far Factory Reset has failed me twice, both on Fresh 3.1.0.1 and Stock Froyo (rooted). I'm now trying your Profile Restore trick.. i'll report back soon.
edit: didn't work, but i'm guessing it would work for those that the factory reset worked for. i'm going to keep trying, as some people have said it took 10 times!
Going to continue the old thread bump by saying there were issues with CDMA provisioning today. Might want to try again this weekend.

It took me SEVERAL tries I just kept doing it because it seemed doing it with the Factory Reset was the same way, just keep doing it and hope that eventually you end up with 1.40. This just avoided the factory resets for me
I am perplexed by an issue with my LG Flex 2 (H950) that has persisted since it was updated from Lollipop 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 (11x) via official OTA by AT&T. This occurs with or without root.
When I restart or reboot the phone, I totally lose my cell connection--no voice, no data--and "Mobile Networks" is grayed-out. If I perform a factory reset or delete telephony.db and its journal, the cell connection comes back and I can enter the "Mobile Networks" menu, though the APN list is empty. Resetting APNs to default does nothing, but I can manually add an APN and data works fine, including LTE. On the next reboot, the cycle repeats and there is no connection.
I have gone through 8 SIMS; four AT&T and four T-Mobile, and nothing changes between them. An AT&T rep verified the issue but referred me to LG. LG has had the phone twice under warrant and found no hardware problem. LG also updated the phone to firmware 11z.
The phone reads the SIM without any issue, though programs that read SIM will say no SIM is installed immediately after a reboot. I have also found that upon boot the phone seems to ignore apns-conf.xml, because renaming that file has no effect.
My only guess at this point is that the boot process is changing telephony.db (except immediately after a factory reset) in some way and looking to something other than apns-conf.xml for its APN data. I am currently rooted, because that is the only way I can use ES File Explorer to delete telephony. db.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Greetings,
Thank you for using XDA Assist. I'm going to move your question to the proper device Q&A forum.
Good luck!
Good evening,
Hate to bother everyone since you're all busy, however i've been trying for 2 days now to do a couple things with this new phone. This LG Aristo 2 was handed to me by a sister in law (not purchased from swappa); What we've been trying to do is have the Phone unlocked and used for T-mobile however it appears that no matter how much we try resetting the phone, booting the unlock app and being greeted with a "Unlock failed: Phone already unlocked" screen and using a different SIM. The phone will pick up the signal, turn to 'searching...' and then connect to the network again but not allow calls/data to go through, The APN settings are also correct.
So plan B is to reinstall the stock android software (kdz) from https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-lmx210ma-firmwares/; Unfortunately i'm always greeted with an error saying that it cannot complete. Unsure what else to do at this point, Any recommendations?
To clarify, the reason why I'm trying to ensure the unlock has been successful is because we plan to use for calls and data. Texting seems to work, the APNs are correct but data services and calls don't seem to go through, unsure why.
To unlock it via app, you can spend $7ish on eBay. It would take 2 days to get it unlocked.
*****FINAL UPDATE: THIS POST IS A WASTE OF TIME WANDERING AROUND SOLUTIONS FOR THE IMEI. THE REAL REASON IS THAT I WAS SCAMMED AND BOUGHT A STOLEN PHONE WITHOUT KNOWING, AND THE IMEI/IMEIs WERE CHANGED, so when I factory reset the phone, the IMEIs were gone. If you're in the same situation, see if you can return the phone. If not, the only thing you can do is sell it AS IT IS, because YOU WERE PROBABLY SCAMMED, LIKE ME, so please sell it declaring the state of the phone and the IMEIs.*******
****If you want to read the entire post, go ahead, but you'll waste all your time. You were scammed, it's a stolen phone, end of story.****
Guys I was really excited about this purchase, I tested network with the seller, on both SIMs, both worked great, 4G data, when I took it home I noticed the phone was BL unlocked with Magisk, which made me worry about any security issues or not being able to update. Relocked BL from download mode, flashed stock G970FXXSDFUI5 (I live and bought it here in Colombia), and I checked this was the same FW that it had while rooted with Magisk
Cleared data/cache, flashed successfully, warnings gone, but no network at all, this is what I have:
- Only emergency calls with any SIM in any slot, already tried different carriers
- Checked IMEI in national blacklist database imeicolombia.com, they're both clean
- When trying to make a call "not registered on network"
- When going into Mobile Networks - Select Network - Select Automatically is ON, if I try to turn off it instantly says "Error searching for networks" and the switch stays on, so no "Manual Search" button.
Already tried clearing data/cache of SIM Toolkit app, what am I missing? Thank you!
UPDATE: I went through all the process of unlocking BL again and rooting again with Magisk successfully following this tut
with updated Magisk, etc, but still no ntwk, will now try flashing other countries same/higher SW REV, will post any other update.
Additional steps: I tried putting 2G only or 3G only and reset APNs to see if "Select Automatically" switch was fixed but same story, it wont turn off and shows same "Error while searching for networks" msg right away
UPDATE 2: I wanted to share a video I found that shows the exact same error that I get in the "Mobile Networks" menu:
Altough I rly dont think it's the same situation, cause in that video, the phone has no signal at all, mine is able to pick full signal for emergency calls. I rly dont think my situation is that of hardware but some kind of software/activation/sim thing (It's not the SIM bc it works in any other phone)
Please someone help me, I've invested more than labor hours researching and trying to fix this, I fear I could damage the phone by flashing it so many times

A VERY VERY VERY complex process. It turns out the answer was a very simple one. They sold me a stolen phone with the IMEIs changed, so at the moment that I factory reset the phone, the "fake" IMEIs were cleared, leaving the phone with NULL IMEIs. In short, I got scammed, had to sell the phone declaring the situation, ofc for a quite discounted price due to the fact of it being a stolen phone.
ALERT 1: WHEN YOU'RE GONNA BUY A SAMSUNG PHONE, ASK THE SELLER IF IT CAN BE FACTORY RESET RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM/HER BEFORE PAYING. IF THE SELLER SAYS YOU CAN'T, YOU CAN ALREADY GUESS WHAT'S GOING ON.
ALERT 2: NOW THEY CAN CRACK THE SAMSUNG PHONE IMEIS SO IF YOU FACTORY RESET, IT WOULD KEEP THE FAKE IMEIs, so the only thing you can do is go into this website:
IMEIpro - free Samsung IMEI checker
Check information about your Samsung cell phone - model, serial number, manufacture date. Verify Samsung carrier, age of the phone, purchase country, CSN number and other details.
imeipro.info
Enter the IMEI and the website will show you THE SERIAL NUMBER. COMPARE IT WITH THE ONE SHOWN IN THE PHONE. IF THEY DON'T MATCH, THE PHONE IMEI HAS BEEN CHANGED, LIKELY A STOLEN PHONE! DO NOT BUY IT!
This is the best guide I have for buying used samsung phones so far
