internet sharing by default as usb plugin? - Touch Cruise General

I'm using c_shekhar_Pola_1.60.21014bCS, and it rocks. Once of new feature is that, when usb plugin, it asks you to: 1.activesync; 2.something; 3.internet sharing, and a "use it as default" check box.
for some reason, as i plugin usb, it doesn't ask anymore and Internet sharing always popup. The big problem is, Active sync doesn't connect anymore (on the pc, the device doesn't show). Anybody knows how to remember the default?
thanks in advance.

i had same situation. for me helded only hard reset

ActiveSync stopped working!

Case data:
- Stock and new HTC Touch Pro, fw 1.90.401.1.
- I think this has started somewhere around after I played with Advanced Configuration for Diamond (read below).
- I also tried to change everything back to normal (in the tool) but it didn't fix anything.
- I didn't touch anything that can be considered related to the case except maybe the Comm Manager modes that A.C.f.D. has (and tried the extra buttons) ...I did some changes but A.C.f.D. seems very buggy in that area and now I am back to what I think was the default.
- Internet Sharing is disconnected.
- When I set USB to PC to go to disk drive mode, it works.
- When I set USB to PC to DISABLE advanced network functionality, WORKS (don't want to stay like that, since the "good mode" worked fine).
- When I set "ask about connection type" DOESN'T ASK (anymore)!
- When USB to PC is in advanced network functionality, nothing happens. ActiveSync doesn't start and WM Device Center doesn't detect anything. I think something very briefly flashes in my Vista notification area (possibly some USB detection that goes on and off?).
...this (and the ask connection type above) is my problem. It worked fine before.
- Bluetooth ActiveSync works.
- WiFi works ok and 3G is enabled.
I have made plenty of soft resets (and PC reboots), I want to try to avoid hard reset if possible.
Any ideas?
edit: Noticed that in device manager, when I link with the "problem" mode that doesn't work, I get "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" in my network adapters. Is this normal? I think this only shows when Internet Sharing is enabled in WM... maybe it is stuck in this mode somehow?
Forget it!
The last edit above, made me think.
So I went to Internet Sharing, verified that it was disconnected, clicked connect.
It briefly popped that I should check my USB connection (aha) but then connected anyway!
So I clicked again to disconnect and this eliminated the network adapter mentioned above (in my Vista) and returned to the (normal it seems) "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and ActiveSync kicked in!

I think this thread should go to the issues thread?
Internet sharing can wreck advanced network functionality
I had the same problem: first I only noticed the usb popup not popping up, then of course activesync also didn't connect. Every other thread advises to turn advanced network functionality off, which fixes activesync, but the usb popup selector doesn't come back, and I think this way the system reverts to some compatibility mode. I didn't like this.
I kept searching for the phrase "advanced network functionality stopped working", which finally brought your message, with the solution, thank you for taking the time to post both the problem and the solution.
PS: Now I posted the keywords which came to my mind, hopefully helping to find this solution easier.
Thanks so much bro for that... It was a pain trying to find a solution. But once again search comes out the solution.!
Hm, I had the issue where ActiveSync completely quit. I could use internet sharing or disk drive functions and my Raphael would charge, but the USB connection would not come up and ActiveSync would not connect. My contacts and appointments disappeared from my phone.
I was able to solve the issue by uninstalling a recent cab I had added, which merely served to replace my Bluetooth taskbar icons. No idea why this cab caused such awful behavior, but I'm glad to have avoided a hard reset.

USB Connection menu gone!

Hi.
I'm using the TP for quite some time now without too much hassle, but one thing annoys me.
For a few days the selection menu is gone when you connect your TP to USB. Normally it pops up a screen to select ActiveSync, FlashDrive or Internet Sharing mode.
Now, it just uses the last selection and I've never switched on the "Don't ask me again" button.
I've found the USB to PC settings which do about the same, but even if I switch on "Ask about connection type when I connect" it just doesn't. And then, I like the TouchFLO popup better.
Anyone a suggestion on how to get the selection screen back?
Thanks a bunch!
If you go to parameters, connexion, Usb parameters, you need to activate :
- Activesync (synchronise with Outlook)
- Activate the functionnality advanced netwerk
- Ask the type of connexion when connected
Same here.
im too afraid to tick the dont ask again box insase i cant find it again. it does sometimes not appear though
Perhaps the USB cable you use is not optimal.
Do you try also with the original one??
As strange as the menu disappeared, it was there again yesterday all of a sudden.
It appears "fixed" but I must agree, it doesn't show every time... Definately...

*SOLVED* ActiveSync via Bluetooth? NO COM PORT CHOICES?

Hi,
I am in need of some help on this topic. I am not certain if it is a ROM issue, an AS issue or a ME, like me issue.
Please don't flame me, done lots of googling, searching, etc and no luck.
Trying to sync with my laptop over bluetooth and using AS.
All goes well with the setup, each device sees each other, but when on the HTC Iolite, I go to
AS
CONNECT VIA BLUETOOTH
YES, to SET UP AN AS PARTNERSHIP
on the MODE tab, TURN DISCOVERY ON
on the device tab, Add a NEW Device
on the COM PORTS tab, to try to set up an OUTGOING PORT I do NOT have any options to select.
with my HTC Iolite I am running the latest iOmEgA rom installed.
Has anyone else had this same issue and BT with ANY other ROM on any other HTC or PDA? I have not flashed a different rom or tried this previously, so am not sure if it is a rom issue or a AS issue or what.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I usually only get it to work if there's a partnership established already. Meaning you should first connect it by wire, do an initial sync, and then try using bluetooth.

Well...it took me almost all night, but I learned aha! that the devices were NOT paired, when they are and ONLY WHEN THEY ARE, do you have the option to set an OUTGOING PORT. so I got it to work, frankly, this should be easier than it is. Now, with this said the AS connection is very, very tempermental in that
1. I stop syncing,
2. leave my office, with my phone / PDA with me,
3. return and reconnect via BT, then
4. activate sync from the phone / PDA AS, via the Connect via Bluetooth
5. I get the SET UP AN AS PARTNERSHIP and say YES then I can resync
6. Again too, too funky, but at least no USB cord
7. In the end I wil give this sync method a whirl and see how it goes.
Thanks!!

THread moved to Q&A
Best way to get it working properly is:
Delete any existing pairings on both the pc and ppc.
Check that the bluetooth program on your pc has a com port set up and that your pc is discoverable.
Go to activesync connection settings on pc and check that it is set to use the same com port as the previous step.
On ppc, go to activesync and attempt to 'connect via bluetooth'.
When it doesnt find a connection, select t create one, add device, and create a partnership with your pc. It SHOULD find activesync as a service.
Now you can close the bluetooth menu, and 'connect via bluetooth' again.
Make sure you are initiating the pairing from the ppc, and always initiate the sync from the ppc.

Options screen missing when connecting USB

Hi:
WM6.5 cooked in a Diamond. When connecting the USB cable, three options: ActiveSync, use as HD and Internet Sharing. By mistake I selected the check box "always do this and don't ask again" (or something like that), having chosen the Internet Sharing. Now, of course, every time I connect by USB, Internet Sharing starts without further options.
The question: how can I recover the options screen in order to choose, when I insert the USB cable, the original three options?
Thanks in advance!

Settings>Connections>USB to PC
There's an option at the bottom that allows you to get that prompt back
No way. That option doesn't do reappear the prompt, even if it seems exactly what should happen...
it's a windows thing
find and remove autostart for your phones in the pc registry
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2

[Q] WM 6.5 - 'Charge Only Mode'

I am looking for a tweak\tool\registry hack (if possible) to have a Charge Only Mode for Windows Mobile 6.5 if at all it is possible. Most of the times, I am at office using my HD2 (Dual boot with 6.5 and DarkStone Android ) connected to the Laptop and it would be great if I can just connect it to my laptop without choosing either of the three options
1. ActiveSync
2. USB Storage Mode
3. Internet Sharing
P.S : I did lot of search for this option but was unable to find it and hence started this thread...but I will be more than happy if anyone can redirect me to an existing thread if any, for the same issue.
When your phone is charging off the laptop do you actually use any apps on it?
I'm like you in that I spend 2 days a week with my phone charging from the laptop, but I never use it for anything other than phone calls, so selecting disk drive does the job for me.
Any apps I'd need, I'd make sure were installed on the device.

Better use the active sync or the mass storage mode..As it is you wont be needing to install apps on your memory card thanks to the massive storage of the HD2 compared to the older WM devices...This shouldn't be a problem IMHO...
Cheers.
Ive got a really easy fix for this, just use a different cable, you can get cables or adaptors that will charge only and wont sync. When you want to sync just change the cable or take off the adaptor.
btw... such an adaptor is only £2.50 from amazon for my phone

This doesn't stop the action as such, but when you connect your phone to PC, with the 3 options you listed, there should be a a check box at the bottom "Don't ask me again", so whatever you choose will automatically happen next time (choosing USB storage will therefore not ativate ActiveSync/Device Centre on your PC. This can also be found under Settings->Other (miscellaneous settings)->USB to PC (see attachment).
Or, just use a wall socket charger?
Hi,
Thanks for your replies ! The reason I asked this question is because I do not have a Data Plan on Phone. I only use Wifi at home and office and Active Sync kills it. Data storage mode won't let me use the Storage which I kinda need (Don't ask me why? ) and ofcourse Internet sharing Mode just sends the phone into a crazy 'Connecting 3G Network'...loop.
Anyways, I think using the Charge Only Cable should do the trick for now..But I still feel that this mode will be helpful for few rares like me...Love tis mode in Android.

ActiveSync does not kill my Wifi - make sure the 'Allow wireless connections on device...' is checked under File->Connections Settings. Also ActiveSync should allow your phone to use your PC's internet connection (pass through) anyway.
The other thing to try is to delete the mobile device from within ActiveSsync as if you've never synced it before and when you next connect it it will ask you to set up a relationship but click cancel and - viola - should now just charge.

No "Allow Wireless Connection on Device" option. I am using Windows 7.. Not sure if it is present in WMDC.
ActiveSync Passthrough does not work..I am on a encrypted network with authentication based Proxies..whole bunch of them.....
I do not want to kill the ActiveSync relationship since it syncs everything with my PC.
I think I am bothering a lot over this stupid requirement.. so I will just close this thread (If I can) but if I find anything I will post it here, for someone else who might be in similar situation.
Thanks anyways...XDA rocks !!!
