Hi,
I am in need of some help on this topic. I am not certain if it is a ROM issue, an AS issue or a ME, like me issue.
Please don't flame me, done lots of googling, searching, etc and no luck.
Trying to sync with my laptop over bluetooth and using AS.
All goes well with the setup, each device sees each other, but when on the HTC Iolite, I go to
AS
CONNECT VIA BLUETOOTH
YES, to SET UP AN AS PARTNERSHIP
on the MODE tab, TURN DISCOVERY ON
on the device tab, Add a NEW Device
on the COM PORTS tab, to try to set up an OUTGOING PORT I do NOT have any options to select.
with my HTC Iolite I am running the latest iOmEgA rom installed.
Has anyone else had this same issue and BT with ANY other ROM on any other HTC or PDA? I have not flashed a different rom or tried this previously, so am not sure if it is a rom issue or a AS issue or what.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I usually only get it to work if there's a partnership established already. Meaning you should first connect it by wire, do an initial sync, and then try using bluetooth.

Well...it took me almost all night, but I learned aha! that the devices were NOT paired, when they are and ONLY WHEN THEY ARE, do you have the option to set an OUTGOING PORT. so I got it to work, frankly, this should be easier than it is. Now, with this said the AS connection is very, very tempermental in that
1. I stop syncing,
2. leave my office, with my phone / PDA with me,
3. return and reconnect via BT, then
4. activate sync from the phone / PDA AS, via the Connect via Bluetooth
5. I get the SET UP AN AS PARTNERSHIP and say YES then I can resync
6. Again too, too funky, but at least no USB cord
7. In the end I wil give this sync method a whirl and see how it goes.
Thanks!!

THread moved to Q&A
Best way to get it working properly is:
Delete any existing pairings on both the pc and ppc.
Check that the bluetooth program on your pc has a com port set up and that your pc is discoverable.
Go to activesync connection settings on pc and check that it is set to use the same com port as the previous step.
On ppc, go to activesync and attempt to 'connect via bluetooth'.
When it doesnt find a connection, select t create one, add device, and create a partnership with your pc. It SHOULD find activesync as a service.
Now you can close the bluetooth menu, and 'connect via bluetooth' again.
Make sure you are initiating the pairing from the ppc, and always initiate the sync from the ppc.

Hi,
I know this is an old thread but i wanted people thoughts on Activesync over Bluetooth?
What issues are there and how reliable is it?
Im using WM6.1 and plan to sync with Outlook2003 on XPpro sp3.
Thanks
I find activesync via bluetooth very reliable, although not fast enough for transfering large files.

I have installed the latest ROM from Dutty.
I have re-installed everything and paired with BT headset. Using Voice Command with headset no problem.
What I have not been able to figure out is to get Activesync working thru bluetooth. I have it paired with my laptop put it only gives me the option for Dial up networking for services.
Everything else is working better than ever and this ROM makes me appreciate my Tilt even more.
Any suggestions?
I suggest you post this question in his latest ROM thread. That is a more appropriate place to post this questions.
good luck.
Anybody have any suggestions on this issue.
This is the only thing I have not working. Just fixed VC1.6 Call announce.
Any help would be great.
To begin, delete your computer from your paired-devices list on the kaiser, and also delete your kaiser from your computer's paired-devices list.
Now, begin the process of setting up a BT connection on the kaiser, but to be able to use Activesync over bluetooth, you need to enter a password with more than 6 (possibly 8, but I think it's 6) characters. Once that's done, you should see Activesync in the services list.
BUT it has to be a "new" pairing, so be sure to delete the devices from each others' lists first. Otherwise, it won't work.

This is how I tried to setup after a hard reset to the Tilt and I deleted the pair from my computer. I can pair the laptop to the Tilt. But the only services I get available are Dialup Networking and Network Access. When I try start ActiveSync from the computer it says I do not have a partnership that supports and when I try from the computer it tells me the Tilt does not support that service.
Thanks

make sure that activesync is set to the com port that you have defined as an incoming com port for you bluetooth (on the pc, not the phone). how to do this.......it all depends on what bluetooth stack you are using.
Finally got it.
The COM port matched in ActiveSync, but I discovered the bluetooth on my laptop would not delete my old version phone. It said it deleted, delete, close, reopen and it would reappear. Once I killed that everything worked like a charm.
Thanks for everyone's help and thank you Dutty for your work.
I love the phone but I cannot believe that its so hard to sync with Vista via Bluetooth. It has the latest mobile software and vista is the new OS, how can they **** things up so badly?
I know there are some issues with the Sony Vaio Bluetooth stack. Its super confusing and the Bluetooth settings are hard to find.
Is it actually possible to Sync with Bluetooth to vista from WM6? Has anyone got this working?
Thanks, even a yes or no would be great here, so that I know if I'm wasting my time.
Ben
I did. After connecting my TP to the PC via bloetooth, i synced them, but using the phone's ActivSync, and not the Windows Mobile Device Center.
You need to go to your phone and instruct a "bluetooth activesynce".
It worked fine for me and my Vista SP1, using a dead-cheapo USB-bluetooth adapter.
Got it working too. Paired the 2 devices and entered passcode. Then started AS on the phone and selected Connect using BT and off it went. No problems what so ever.
Its good to hear that it works for people.
I think its an issue with the Sony Bluetooth stack. I can pair the devices but the device doesn't show that the laptop has activesync, just wireless stereo. I think I might hate Sony more than Microsoft, Mac next time for sure, so so sick of Vista and spending a week online working things out.
Its a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone has it working on a Sony Laptop with Vista?
Thanks for the replies and listening to me moan.
Indeed, having the same problem with Toshiba Bluetooth Stack. No Activesync profile when searching for available profiles. Is the any solution on how to add the "Activesync profile"?

Did you try this https://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsMobile/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2382825&SiteID=65
I had the same problem with my VAIO TZ and my Tytn II, didn't try with the TP yet.
Apart from replacing the drivers, I seem to remember there was a trick related to changing the COM Port or something (the default port was incompatible with Activesync) but I'm afraid I don't remember. I'll give it a go when I have time to connect both, but it may not happen until I getmy new laptop.
EDIT: forget the above, that's the trick I half remembered (and used): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397419

If this is the case, try adding comm port for both your laptop and tp. Outgoing for TP and incoming for laptop. Then you need to set Windows Mobile Center to connect via COM?? (?? is the number you've chosen)
ActiveSync connection (via bluetooth) is actually a comm port connection.

Try removing the pairing and rebond.
It also works fine for me with Vista (non-SP1), newest version of Mobile Center, and a Bluetooth dongle with Microsoft stack.
This worked for me
I used many websites, a lot with very similar advice, but none specific to the HTC touch Diamond conundrum.
However, this is a very useful step by step guide:
http://www.inspectmygadget.com/2007/05/31/how-to-connect-your-wm5-device-to-wmdc-via-bluetooth/, which although provides advice for WM 5, is still the same principle.
The advice below is device specific
I use:
HTC Touch Diamond (with WM 6.1)
WMDC 6.1
Bluesoleil V6 Bluetooth Dongle
Although I had found the above advice on previous websites, and it had not worked I remained persistent.
I was able to find 'Activesync' as a service when, on my PC, changed the WMDC connection settings to COM 3.
However every time I tried to 'connect via BT' on my device, it said 'no partnership existed......'.
I therefore established some more com ports on my computer (in addition to COM 3, COM 4, COM 5 which I had taken authorisation off of):
COM 6
COM 7. Both without authorisation.
I then used the trial and error method to find which com port would broadcast 'activesync' to my device. It was still COM 3.
However, on trying 'activesync via BT'on my device this time, it began to connect!!!
I am not sure whether opening up the extra ports (COM 6 and COM 7) or whether my computer/device decided it was now the time to play ball since it realised I was about to take a cricket bat to it worked but it now syncs fantastically.
NB: There was no need to reinstall any software or windows operating system (as some other posts on other websites have suggested)
I still cannot get this to work. I couldn't on my Sprint Touch and now I can't on my Touch Pro.
I have Vista Home Premium SP1 with WMDC 6.1
Computer was formatted to factory settings today. Touch Pro is new as of yesterday.
I paired the phone to the computer and the computer to the phone. ActiveSync was a profile available for the computer and I made sure it was ticked.
I plugged in the phone via USB and set up the partnership. All is good there.
When I open ActiveSync on the phone and click "connect via bluetooth" it tells me it cannot open the port.
This is the exact same problem I had with my Touch. The computer is newly formatted and isn't communicating with any other bluetooth device at all. How can the port not be available? I've tried the regedit. Tried making incoming ports on the computer. No avail. However, I cannot make new outgoing ports on the phone. The tab is there but no option to do so.
Any help?
Thanks in advance
EZ Solution
I just found an easy solution for u guys who using Toshiba Bluetooth Stack ...
U guys no need to remove anything ...
All u need to do is verify the COM port of ur bluetooth ...
1. Go to the “Bluetooth Local COM” Applet in your Control Panel
2.Open “Bluetooth Local COM” applet where you will see a list of Ports
3. The Corerct port you need to use is
“COM7 Toshiba BT Port (COM7) LocalCOM-Server[SerialPort(TOSHIBA LocalCOM)]
and not “COM6 Toshiba BT Port (COM6) LocalCOM-Client”
From this guy here ... << http://thinkabdul.com/2006/10/12/tu...c-via-bluetooth-with-toshiba-bluetooth-stack/ >> TQ sir ...
Then ... u guys need to use ur REGEDIT to find this ...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services
Notice there is SerialPort ?? yes ... JUST CHANGE THE string 'Bluetooth' to COM7 ...
After this just pair ur wat ever PDA u've got & thats it ... u got the ACTIVESYNC in the advance option of the services available ...
Hope u guys enjoy !!!
P/S :- BTW i just bought my HTC TP 2 weeks ago ...
woks perfectly!!!
many thanks.
Hi:
I have a Fuze I have been using for several months. At some point it stopped connecting via USB to Active Sync. I was still able to sync via bluetooth.
Since the official ATT ROM is about to be released I decided to troubleshoot the USB/ActiveSync problem.
Well, I checked all connections, deleted and reinstalled partnership, tried different cables, different USB ports, uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync, unchecked the advanced network functionality box, turned Firewall on and off. Other usb devices are working fine, and I am able to connect the phone as storage/file transfer, just not ActiveSync.
I have searched and searched, and tried everything I can find, but now after so much messing with it, I am unable to connect to ActiveSync at all. When I try to pair it via bluetooth to my phone ActiveSync doesn't even show up as a service anymore.
When I connect via usb, I get the same error unable to establish a connection, and it suggests I check my Firewall.
I have added ActiveSync to my Firewall etc..., as well as completely disabling my Firewall. Still nothing. I have tried all the steps suggested by ZoneAlarm.
I am using Windows XP, ZoneAlarm Security Suite 8.0.298.035.
ANY ideas would really, really be appreciated.
Thanks!
Activesync is one of M$'s WORST inventions! Before WM6, The only way to connect your computer was via activesync (there was no "drive" option that i knew of)
I HATE activsync, never have gotten it to work. Thank GOD Google sync is around, sync up my contacts and calendar over the air.
Honestly, I'd say avoid activsync at all costs. But one other option MAY be to create a new user account on your computer and try activsync with that user.
I could also say ditch windows for ubuntu, but i have yet to find any easy way to sync my Fuze with ubuntu
Hi Cass:
Thanks for the reply. Well creating a new user did enable me to once again sync via bluetooth, but still no luck with the usb connection
Is it possible to install a ROM update via bluetooth?
Thanks!
i am not expert and I have not had that problem wth my fuze, but have you tried doing a hard reset?

uninstall activesync, reboot, make sure activesync files were deleted, reinstall activesync, turn the firewall off (for testing purposes), (turn off MS firewall service in services) and try to reconnect then.
Need a little more information in order to help you. Information that would help is:
- Version of Operating System Service Pack
- Version of Active Sync
- Anti-Virus software
In the interim; can I assume that these KB articles did not help?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915152/en-us
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912240/en-us
I've run into similar issues with other USB devices; and the solution is usually one of two:
1) Too many USB device entries
When a device is not connected to the PC, it doesn't display in the Device Manager. To display those hidden devices, follow the steps in this KB article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241257/en-us
Once the hidden devices are displayed (usually semi-transparent looking) you can right-click on each one and remove it. If you see any hidden devices with an Exclamation, you need to remove those as well.
For the moment, keep to USB related devices - in other words, don't go removal happy ... some hidden devices are meant to be there.
2) Driver Signing
It's also possible that you have a driver signing issue. You can temporarily disable driver signing by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties ... the option is found on the Hardware tab.
Don't leave it permanently disabled; set it Warn, at the very least, to avoid malicious installation of Trojan or other similar programs.
HTH,
You don't need activesync to install a ROM from the computer. Hold the power, volume down button, and press the reset button with your stylus. This will take you into bootloader mode. Keep holding the buttons after pressing the reset button until the tricolor screen comes up. Then plug the phone into the computer. It should say "USB" at the bottom, which shows that it is connected to the computer. Then flash away.
You can try it out and let us know if it works. Just soft reset after you confirm it works.
You could also flash via SD card, but that's more work and requires unlocking phone.
Thank you all so much!
I have not been able to try any of your suggestions, because I had an unexpected work issue arise, but I will definitely try then within the next couple days, and report back here.
Thanks again!
I have problems syncing with WMDC and my Fuze. When it becomes persistent, I end the partnership, uninstall WMDC, and then reinstall it. It then works for a while.

Junk:
You are my hero!! Your advice worked perfectly. I was able to update to the new ROM without using ActiveSync.
Thanks so much!!
And thanks to those of you who replied. I didn't try the other suggestions, since Junk's worked perfectly for me.
Hi all,
I have searched and searched the forum and the internet but can find no answer to this issue.
I'm using an HTC Touch Dual (Neon 200) that I had set up to connect to my PC via bluetooth for Activesync.
No problems there, it all worked fine. The issue comes with my attempts to automate the synchronization. I had found and successfully used a program called CT Scheduler to start the bluetooth radio and then instigate the "Windows/repllog.exe" file to start a bluetooth activesync.
In Activesync, on the Touch, I go to "Menu-->Connections--->when cradled, synchronize all pc's using.........."
I had the option to select "`USB" or "`DIRECTORSOFFICE" (the name of my PC).
Now, I have no idea how the "`DIRECTORSOFFICE" option got there but I selected it and it all worked fine. I could connect via USB or Bluetooth and the auto-sync worked fine.
BUT, Here's the kicker, after a hard reset, I've restablished all my connections via bluetooth etc. and can manually initiate a sync via bluetooth. HOWEVER in the Activesync connections I can no longer select aything other than "`USB". For the life of me I cannot remember how I got the Touch to give me that other option and it is the ONLY thing preventing the auto bluetooth sync from working.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Hi and welcome to XDA,
did you do a H-Reset or a new rom flash? the new rom may not support BT Activesync, you should also pair your phone to your PC, that may enable the option
Eh - my bad...should have specified in my OP. This is running stock WinMo 6.1 Professional.
Did you pair to your PC?
Not this time around.....dammit you know that sounds like it might be it! I'll have to a backup, hard reset and try it out.
If that's truly the case and I can get that option available again then I have a really tidy solution for people wanting to Autosync via Bluetooth.
(Although this is probably not an issue nowadays as most phones are coming with WiFi, so I guess people are syncing that way)

Depends what stack you have
Sorry, i don't think i can help
If i find anything, i'll let you know
Default MS BT stack for WinMo Pro 6.1. I haven't changed anything on this ROM at all.
I must have done something during BT setup that allowed that option to appear but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was!
It's not a huge deal as I luckily had a backup with that configuration working, I was just being a bit anal about doing a complete clean install, there were a few programs I wanted to get rid of and felt my phone had slowed up a bit.
Cheers.
