Poor video recording - make a difference! - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hi all. Is anyone else dissatisfied by the video recording performance of their Tough Pro? I know mine is a massive letdown - even compared to my old XDA II from 4 years ago! I just got back and my holiday videos are rubbish.
Ateksoft's CoolCamera is a brilliant app for PPC's that can boost framerate, picture size and quality. However it doesn't work with the recent HTC devices.
I'm sure other people would be happy to part with a couple of quid for an app that could turn their Touch Pro into a great camera. If you're interested, please post in the following thread on Ateksoft's website:
http://ateksoft.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=5429&sid=164940bf473d8dc362e316a3ac416462#5429
It only takes a second to register and it could make a lot of difference!
Cheers,
Mike

Polaris photo quality is obscene.

Hi this is my first post i'm following with great interest the forum and i've got a problem i've not seen in the forum but to me is the worst at all.
Horrible image quality in photo with artifacts in compression:
i've sent a complain to HTC and i'll see if any answer...
here is what i've sent:
Hi,I'm complaining for many bugs and poor perfomance of my new p3650 touch cruise
here are only the most urgent:
1st) the photo quality is terrible I can attach a sample image if you want, I've set to maximum resolution 3mp and superfine and even in full day light I get jerky - full of artifacts images and compared to my motorola v3x only 2mp of two years ago is like to get back to the stone age. Please release a better driver or compressor.
2nd) the video is jerky an poor quality also when i play a video also in corrected format native pda resolution this is played jumping and slow framerate.
3D) the contacts section always shows both sim and outlook records so I get always double contacts the phone is terrible to use in this way also I tried a workaround with filtering but this is not memorized so i have to set every time :this is horrible and a phone must have this tool working if you compare to old years ago phones or pda you'll get in comparison a thousand lightyear better use.
Please above all solve the video section for terrible quality.
I think you must not ignore my asking.
As you see i'm also concerned with more question but the image prob. is too big ....
thanks
Attached two shots from motorola V3x only 2MP and Htc polaris you can vomit if you want............
please - cannot upload for the images max size is 100k and if i downsample the image the artifacts are not the same ...... i'm looking for a upload site-url
Can we see the images?
as long as the content is not obscene
The photo quality on my Orbit 2 (Polaris) is actually one of the best I've ever seen.
If no flash is needed it can compete with Sony Ericsson devices easily.
Did you
- disable the shutter sound?
- enable taking the photo by "half press" of the key? If not, take care that you don't move at all because fully pressing the key without moving is quite difficult
please w8

please see them at fullres or at 200% expecially at the sky or greens ....

i'm not a novice and first to post i've done already what you say ... btw maybe your comparison is with a vga phone......
i'm directly comparing photo with an old motorola V3X that is only 2MP ..... and see attachements you can easily see what is better ....
also see the photo you shot on pc .... then starting shout......
or maybe my polaris is defective ??????????
this may be a better thing.... for you all of course ... hope this is not defective and is only a matter of driver/compression
I have many phone pda and this is the worse camera i've ever seen .......
thanks .
First of all, don't expect High Quality in every field by an 'All-In-One' device like the Polaris.
There were several photos taken in reviews all around the world, so don't curse the Polaris because you don't like the quality of the photos taken. You had the option to see some sample photos before you bought it.
If the quality of your pictures differ from the sample ones (in the reviews), and is much worse, maybe you don't know everything about taking photos.
Maybe you could reduce the sharpness a little bit...
Also, the V3x uses software blur for removing the artifacts.
I am comparing to 3Mpx Sony Ericsson phones like the K800i which are the best camera-phones on the market.
My XDA Orbit 2 takes photos that are competitive to those taken with SE phones as long as they're not done in dark environment (because SE phones have flashlight).
So, if you really did the optimizations and if your photos are really that bad you probably got a defective device.
EDIT: OK, now i looked at your sample shots and now I understand what you're talking about. Yes, the moiré is there and it is there on every Polaris device. But: IMHO the Polaris photos are still way better than the Motorola ones, because they include much more detail, which is in every case more important than not seeing this moiré/grainy effect. Why? Because you can get rid of these effects with photoshop (or probably some free programs, too) easily but you cannot get the details the Motorola photos are missing with any program.
As I always edit the important photos afterwards with PS, I didn't think that you would have problems with these effects (I also noticed them of cousre, but they are no problem for me, at least less of a problem than bad light/color/details).
Like gnick666 said before, try reducing sharpness if you don't want to optimize the photos on your PC.

this device is not an all in **** one this cost 600 euros !! so i don't expect a canon digital ixus quality but at last some better or equal than a much older phone like the v3x ..... also i've seen shots from other users but not as this bad .... i'd like to see your shots (without editing please....)
Yes, i know it costs 600 EUR, I bought it for 620... But still, it's an 'all-in-one' device, like it or not.
I had hell of a time polishing the pics taken with my V3x, but - as mentioned before - the Polaris, takes pictures whith more detail.
Heres mine.

The first one was taken, whith default settings. Check the EXIF data, for proof of date/source, also img includes clock.
The editing has been done whith Irfan View, Blur Filter 3 times.
I'm not an expert, infact I'm a n00b on this, but 1 thing's for sure, not always the most sensitive setting is the best.
Hi Saisallo, you just expend your time discussing here with some HTC extreme freaks about this theme, for some weeks ago when i got my Orbit 2 (HTC Cruise) i wrote i post complaining about the bad quality of the phone, not only the camera but also the sound and some others things and the people just say that they don't have any problem, that they were satisfied with theirs devices and more. Sometimes I think that they didn't have a good product in their hands before. After all the HTC Cruise costs about 530 €, almost the price for a standard notebook.
My last complain about this phone.....!!!!

I just recommend the people to don't buy this phone. Orbit 2 / HTC Cruise are the last crap from HTC

We're not freaks
We just have other methods and oppinions about things. Yeah, we're f*cked because of the driver problem, but that doesn't change the fact that 95% of failiures are caused by the user or in much less percentage software error not caused my the user but the programmer, be it PC, or PDA.
Maybe in 2-3 years these 'all-in-one' devices will compete whith dedicated ones, but that's still in the future, and not now. Learn to compromise, i.e.: post editing photos, optimizng mp3/videos, and so on.
If you can't reproduce the proven quality in some functions, that's your own personal probelm: 1. you expect too much from current technology, 2. you don't know how to do it.
Peoples oppinios differ, just because of that calling others freaks is a bit too arrogant. This forum is for exchanging these oppinions, in cultured, non-offending way.
i've seen your photos and are crappish like mine perhaps they don't have moire effects .... but definitively mediocre quality i must say and so also mine is not defective now i know.
also i'm getting conviced my money was wasted and that i had to w8 more time before buy it ..... and see how much complain there are around ...
now i know that i must w8 for un upgrade of the firmware or software ... but seems that htc support is only for their bank account ........
will follow the forum but i feel stolen by htc.

Windows Mobile device have traditionally had mediocre camera at best. If you wanted a dynamic camera on a mobile device, you should consider a Nokia N95.
My first post here, so proud When I was shopping for groceries (eerie isn't it?) I decided to take a photo. I didn't stand still for long, just a normal photo. Turned out to be quite nice. This is a 2M photo, not 3M.

Yup, i noticed that too, very smooth!

i would guess, the extra ram should make a big diff in the TF3d performance compared to the diamond... right?

At least in the software video it appears to be the case. The TouchFlo 3D interface is very smooth and responsive.
I hope they are going to tweak TouchFlo in landscape mode a bit more to make it more "shiny". But honestly using the keyboard this is more than sufficient. What do you want with the weather panel while using the keyboard? Being able to access all the typing applications quickly with the keyboard out makes most sense to me.
And I guess that using the home button while being in any other application while sliding out the keyboard will bring you back to the landscape touch flo interface (3D it is not... )
damnit. my Nokia N73 committed suicide. It literally hanged and the service point says it can not be repaired. problem with the board.
I need this phone to be released immediately. =\

its a TOUCH category , so it should have less HW keys
I dont want to seem funny or anything, but in what little I can find out about this phone, I have deduced that it is everything the touch diamond is... except for it has a keyboard... and that the landscape "touchflo 3d" is pretty much 8 icons...
please, someone tell me im wrong and that ive missed something here...
Touch Pro has:
More RAM (288MB)
LED light for camera
Hardware keyboard
Higher battery capacity
TV out
microSDHC slot (instead of built-in 4GB in Diamond)
it's possible that I forgot something...
more RAM ay... i guess it depends on whether it really will speed up things, or whether itll go back to the usual problem of the graphics drivers being non-exsistant.
Personally, and im probably on my own here, it just seems that the pro will be £100+ more because it has a keyboard and a few more little things... dont get me wrong, i got my kaiser because i love having a real qwerty etc, i just wish that it had a bit more "oomph" behind it than the diamond... and some graphic drivers

Nah, doesn't excite me either!
Anyhoo, you end up with around 200MB Program memory and 320MB Storage Memory just after a hard reset. That's more than on my advantage!!
No demo of the camera in the software demo huh? That's not usually a good sign.

[Q] Camera quality.. disappointed..

I thought the fuze had a camera that rivaled the iphone 4 but apparently not.. I'm rather disappointed in the videocamera quality especially. The video that I took with it lacks fps and is quite laggy. The iphone 4 just killed it..
Here is a sample of what a fuze video is like (taken on my touch pro and friend put it on his channel; I'm not trying to promote views either)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrnkDwu4yDI
Is there any tweaking that can be done to improve quality? I have my videocamera on max resolution settings already or should I have left it stock?
You do realize that the fuze is a phone several years old, right? HTC never advertised the camera on the Fuze being anywhere near the quality of what the iPhone 4 claims...

Yeah I know but is there anything I can do to improve it?
There is a simple trick for FPS that works in many situations - lower the brightness to zero

Setting the resolution lower will yield higher-quality shots, but reduce the size of them. There have been tweaks for the camera, but the only one I can find/remember is the Panoramic shot one :/
Sent from my HTC Fuze using XDA App
I find that it works better in good light; I get pretty good video outdoors in daylight. The quality goes down the crapper in lower light situations. For the most part, I'm pretty happy with the video quality, I've gotten a lot of solid videos with it.
Hi you could have a look at some of the registry tweaks found on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638. Not all of the camera tweaks found on that thread apply but some like tweak 62. Improve Camera Recording Quality of MPEG4-VGA Videos
or 63. Unlock Additional Video Recording Formats + a few other may apply. It will require you to use a registry editor though. Hope this helps a little.
I tried #63 but I'm afraid to try #62 because the values differ so much and the folder doesn't exist

[Q] Sensation Movie Urgent Query!

In a nutshell. Im gettting married next weekend and purchased an Olympus SZ-30MR camera to film in 1080p. But it's eating through the propiety batteries really fast and it takes hours to charge.
I was going to buy the Sensation after the honeymoon. But now im thinking of getting one this week to do most of the filming.
People who have one already can you test:
1. How long you can film without it stopping? Cameras limited to 29 mins.
2. How much filming can you do until battery is nearly flat?
3. Is quality any good?
Will be using a 32 gb card.
Big thanks in advance.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
As far as I can see you're only limited by the size of your SD card. I just uploaded a quick test I did to youtube, it's probably still processing the higher quality versions. 30 second video is 38.6MB, 1920x1088 resolution (yes, 1088), 29fps.
It's definitely not the best video to check quality, but I was more interested in seeing the actual size of the videos created.
No clue on how much it drains battery as I've hardly used it so far

10596kbps and it's 3gp format. Thought that was strange. I always associate 3gp with the very first phone cameras.

Thanks mate. Did you check the settings for that? Maybe there are some options to switch between 3gp and mp4?
Not a fan of 3gp. Bit rate is on the lower side. How do you feel when you view the clips on TV/monitor?
No option to change file format. Seems to be 3gp for all quality settings.
While changing quality settings I did notice it tells you how much video you can take for each setting. I could do about 3 and a half hours on my 16GB, with about 15GB free space atm.
Video looks nice on my laptop (1080p screen) and a bit better on my TV (also 1080p) when I'm sat on the sofa of the other side of the room. It's obvious there's compression there, but it's better than what I was expecting for a phone camera, and I definitely don't see any need for a "real" camcorder as long as I have this. It's more than enough for any "home videos".
I would in no way use a mobile to film memorable things like a wedding as you will regret it.
Take a good look at the Sony Cybershot HX9 that records excellent 1080p video. Excellent image stabilization, video and sound quality. Excellent camera too!
Really don't even bother with any mobiles for things like that.

Yeah go borrow/rent a good camera/camcorder or even hire a wedding film person (make sure they don't run off with your money). Video on phones is only for convenience. If you can do MUCH better, why wouldn't you?

The Sensation video as far as I can see after looking at a few Sensation videos on You Tube is even at 1080p its similar to the Desire HD video recording capabilities with the whole 'going dark and light all the time as you move around' which is ok but in honesty you will get better from a good compact camera as mobile video in general the sound is quite tin like.
I would try and get most capturing done on your compact camera as its going to be better. Shame you cant get a Sony Cybershot HX9 as that is a frigging awesome compact camera for photos and HD video just come out as well.

Ok. In MY opinion it should be good enough. Since you have the good camera which eats through the battery like mad I have the following impression. You were planning on getting the Sensation either way so might as well get it now. You can use the Olympus for those WOW moments and then use the Sensation for those fun spontaneous moments (seems good enough for that in my opinion) so you don't have to be constantly be worrying about the proprietary batteries and their charge.
But like I said, that's MY take on it.

Just a note on sound, if the Sensation mic is as good as the HD2 I will be chuffed. Went to Ibiza last year and stood next to loud speakers filming, it didn't distort and can easily recreate the bass. Blown away by it not distorting.
Yeah new mobile should arrive today. Got a pretty mint deal to make it worthwhile.

Mate 30 Pro video quality

Hello all,
I'm considering to buy Mate 30 Pro, but i'm worried about video quality in 4k mode. Something changed in new firmwares? Youtube videos discourage from buying this phone - videos looks blurry. What's your opinions?
Greetings
Miles better than the P30 Pro and Mate 20 Pro. Stabilization is better, there's less stutter/jitter when panning around it captures more detail. All these firmware updates have made such a massive difference in the video capture capabilities of M30P.
The only area it is definitely a bit weak in is low light video capture. It's not bad, but could be better - iPhone 11 seems to do better in this department (I had a friend whom I compared with side to side and it edged my M30P when the sun went down).
Thanks for answer, you helped me. Finally i bought it and i'm happy with video quality. How You say, only night videos can be little bit better - phone searching focus too offen and it's a biggest problem. I'm hone next firmwares fix this.

I've been getting a new firmware update almost every week so far on my CN M30P.
Most have included improvements to the camera so if Huawei keep this up, then it's only just going to keep getting better as the firmware has far from matured and perfected the phone given how new it still is.
