HI All,
My humble apologies if whatever I am asking is already present in some way another. I tried to search for it but I was not able to find the answer. It may be my own imbecility but oh well so here it goes.
What I am trying to find out is that is it possible to image a rom. Like on a normal computer once I have my os installed and all the other apps/tweaks I can do a ghost image of it and reflash it to my computer whenever I want and all my apps/tweaks are there.
Because I love flashing new roms (almost everyday) but I have a favorite rom that I install all my apps/tweaks to. So is it possible for me to like flash a rom and customize everything on it and then take an image of it. So after I've testing let's say Dutty's new Rom and I wana go back to my old rom without having to install all the apps/crap again I can just flash the image that I've created.
Once again my humble apologies if I am asking a question that was already answered or if this is not worth asking. I know how everyone at the forum likes to keep things organized and stuff. I just don't want to piss anyone off because I know sometimes people ask some really stupid questions.
Well, there are the stickies on them, and Alex's guide in the wiki on kaiser rom cooking. Its called rom cooking .

Take a look at "SPB Clone" ... most people are going the SPB backup or Sprite Backup route...
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/clone/?en
I've been using SPB Clone v1.5.7 and it is exactly like GHOST.
...they are up to version 1.5.9 now
There's also Sprite Clone out there...
backup & clone are 2 different things ... most would argue on that point though ... but for those of us that use Ghost or Acronis TrueImage knows better
one important note:
clone image only works on the same ROM though ... so for instance ... you have a customized image on ROM #1 ... and now you have ROM #2 on your device ...etc ( or WM5 vs WM6.0 vs WM6.1 ...etc )
you MUST reflash your device back to ROM #1 before re-cloning that custom image !!!
it's like you have XP and then custom tweaked & then cloning it ... and went on to install Vista ... technically, you can reclone the image ( provided that you choose the option to format the HD 1st and PocketPC doesn't have that option...etc ) ... but if you didn't ... you would have to have XP back on it before you re-clone ...etc
Happy cloning !!!
UnicornKaz .... very well put.
I tried to explain this several times the say way & people just don't get it, there's a difference .... a BIG difference.
Just to add, SPB Clone has a $299 price tag on it!
Is it worth the $ .... It depends on your usage. It does work, very well.
TO ALL PEOPLE:
PLEASE STOP POSTING IN THIS TOPIC ABOUT "THIS PART DOESN'T WORK ECC ECC" WRITE IN THE TOPIC OF THE RELEASE (KERNEL OR SYSTEM), PLEASE LOOK IN THIS THREAD FOR WORKING SETUPS AND TRICKS, AND SEARCH ON THE FORUM BEFORE POSTING!
I start with thread with a information for all users:
Haret system sucks so if you want a full working android system left windows behind you and move to the new android world flash on nand.
With this how-to you will not erase any part of your system but you do at your own risk.
Main problem: screen
For polaris there are 3 type of screen. Usually pola100 (the old one) use panel 1, and pola 200 (09 edition) has panel 3 but ... not always works...
The best mode to test is try to install and after double reboot you have black screen change panel type.
What you need:
phone
sd card (1 Gb or more) 500 mb free
time
Update guide: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/androidhtc/wiki/HowToInstallWithAtoolsHaret

Do we have to delete/remove the install-seq.sh after installation?
Are both files (system & data) cleared with the installation script?
Thanks for the help.
install-seq.sh disable automatically after correct install.
This how-to is fir first install on disk on images so it format both data an system.
If you want to make only un update use bsg select partion and select update.
partition
I believe you should make this sticky

hi there..
i solved the problem..i took an older Z image..and working fine
the problem is that more applications like camera..media player screen adjust don't work..
they try to run..(i mean ..in camera..i can see..but appears a messages with stop working..sorry). i don't know why..
nothing work well
and what about the contacts..how can i get them from my Sim card?
i don't know..
if you can help me will be great.
thx allot for yours assistance.
best regards.
The information from sim card are very limitated (neither pin code works) so if you want to export contact sync before starting with google and configur your google account on android.
old zimage are full of bugs and all developers install android on nand so starting android from haret has many unfixed bugs.
I've been playing around with the haret install for a week or so now, and I've found that, for me at least, it makes a huge difference which initrd.gz file I use.
The one dated 22-05-10 doesn't let me install any zImages newer than 29-04-10. After trying all sorts of combinations of base files with different dates (haret, zImage) and additions to the default.txt, changing the initrd.gz file to the one dated 20-02-10 fixed most of my problems and lets me install the most recent zImage files without a glitch.
No clue why, just that it works.
I'm running a Pola100 with the original WM6.0 ROM still on it, and radio version 1.58.25.14. Yeah, I need to upgrade to at least the official WM6.1 ROM and probably something better. But I'm a newbie at this, so I need to work up some courage first ;-)
hello,
I tried to install android on sd following your instructions, everything seems to go well until the screen where it says:
"Welcome to htc vogue Frøya
touch the android to begin "
I'll try, but the touch does not work, I tried using the d-pad, which does work, but I can only select the language and the emergency call.
zImage as I used: zImage-Frøya-15-07-10
androidinstall.tar as I used: Incubus26Jc's Super Frøya RLS11 Themed
please help me because I would switch to Android!
thanks

where can I find it?
thanks
I tried it unsuccessfully. Boot starts regulary, always ending on repeating error, looping forever.
I can read something like:
==============
ERROR no local apt for prog ... replying anyway
...
Setting function 4 for gpio ... that I don't own
==============
Is it related to which system file ? Loader? Kernel ? Or what ?
Thanks
What did you use for your installation?
I used the files mentioned at the very beginning of this post.
Regarding zimage: zimage-24-05-10
Hi,
I've successfully rooted by Transformer TF101 (B60K) using the script posted by rebound821 (Thanks!). It installed CWM which I subsequently upgraded to v 5.8.3.4.
CWM starts up in the usual way, booting with the volume down and then shifting to volume up when the text appears. All seems good.
I wipe the cache partition, no problems. [Cache wipe complete.]
I wipe the Dalvik cache. (Before I actually confirm the wipe I get the "E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]" but it doesn't look like that is too important.) [Dalvick Cache wiped.]
Then I install Revolver-4_RC3.zip which I had placed on the internal SD card. This appears to work fine with a stream of messages like these:
---
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Welcome to Revolver4 - ICS
[ ] Mounting SYSTEM
[ ] Mounting DATA
[ ] Mounting CACHE
[ ] Formatting SYSTEM
... <more messages including a long time waiting while the Copying files goes on>
[ ] Unmounting CACHE
[ ] Writing BOOT
[*] Done!
..
Install from sdcard complete.
-----
Everything looks fine. I select reboot. I get an interesting blue progress bar for a moment then a standard ASUS boot screen. Then I wait while "Android is upgrading..." 170 applications.
Then I'm back in the standard ASUS issue ICS (Kernel 2.6.39.4 Mercury #1/Build IML74K.US_epad-9.2.1.24-20120503) with all of my personal apps still in place!
It's as if I did nothing at all.
I'm pretty mystified. My only clue is that there are no asterisks between the square brackets in the messages above, except for "[*] Done!" and I wonder whether that means these activities all failed without any error messages.
I'd be grateful for some suggestions on how to complete this installation. Thanks!
Rich
yes. Unless you did a factory reset or format of the system partition all your apps and data will still be in place. As far as the kernel it should be the same as well with Revolver. Revolver is nothing more than the stock Asus firmware with a few tweaks and init.d startup scripts.
Thanks, but
Hi,
I appreciate your answer and I don't mind feeling stupid. At least it means I can still learn.
But, having accepted what you said, I downloaded "Revolver Parts" to see what tweaks are available. And all it will do is say "Sorry, you need a Revolver ROM!"
So I don't think I successfully installed Revolver.
Rich
Read through the Revolver thread because that is a current bug with Revolver. There is actually a patch available to fix it. I would recommend ARHD over Revolver because the last few releases of Revolver seem to have had bugs.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Thanks!
You got it exactly right.
I hadn't read through the Revolver thread because I was so sure that I had somehow messed up and didn't even have Revolver.
The patch to RC3 fixed the issue with Revolver Parts which confirmed that everything else worked fine.
Although I've downloaded ARHD I'm going to wait and see how Revolver works. I've had this tablet almost a year and hadn't planned on rooting it because it was doing everything I needed. But the last round of official updates had made it so unstable I couldn't use it anymore. (The gmail app was useless.)
If this makes it stable again, I'm going to be a happy camper.
Thanks again for your help.
Rich
Good stuff. Also try flashing Guevors kernel. It fixed a lot of stability issues for me as well.

The title says it all, this is a great device with a lot of potential for tweaking and modding and they are very affordable as well!
I would like to mainly see a custom kernel that allows overclocking the CPU and GPU as well as double tap to lock and unlock.
I have tried flashing kernels for similar (Tegra 4) devices to no avail, I guess I do not quite know enough about the kernel to get it working.
Custom ROMs would be great as well.
Anyone out there want to give this a shot?
Thanks in advance!

I have compiled a kernel for the Tegra 4 Dreamtab that works. Haven't added any special features. There is actually a good device tree they put in the source too. It's entirely possible.

Is it available on the Nab Tab Hacks site? I do not know how to modify or make kernels, I am reading about it to see if it is something I want to try or not.
Have you seen this kernel for the EVGA Tegra Note 7?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nvidia-tegra-note-7/orig-development/kernel-t2813892
I was originally thinking I might be able to modify this kernel to wo for the Dreamtab, of course because I do not have at least ten posts I can't comment on that thread.
I know the kernel has a overclock but I don't know if it supports tap to wake.

The initial source is here: https://www.nabitablet.com/support/source-code
However they didn't provide enough to completely build the kernel. I have made those changes here. Or at least what I did back in the beginning of October. https://github.com/aicjofs/android_kernel_fuhu_t8400n
With my source and the dreamtab defconfigs I put on there you can build a kernel. Yes the Tegra Note 7 by sharky is where you would cherrypick some mods. I will see if I can do something when I get a chance too.
Okay, thank you for the links, I will do some digging this weekend. Maybe I can figure it out!

I added a custom branch, and added about 2300 commits to get it up to linux 3.4.110. Been running it for about 2 days and it hasn't crashed but I haven't done any major testing either. I will add some overclocking stuff in the next few days.
Actually I could use some help testing if you feel comfortable doing that.
Here is a Nvidia Dreamtab kernel.
-Linux 3.4.110
-linaro gcc 4.9 compiled.
-source for GPL reasons a few posts up.(custom branch, dreamtab_defconfig)
Just test it for stability, play games, whatever, battery life. Call it a proof of concept.
1) You HAVE to make a backup of boot and system in TWRP. It's the only way to do things as I don't have an uninstaller yet. So if it fails you will need to restore boot AND system. So make a back up of those 2.
2) Download attached zip and install in TWRP.
EDIT: Also tap2wake may not be worthwhile. From what I have read they had some issues with wakelocks decreasing battery too rapidly. Also grab some benchmarks. Antutu score or something so we have a couple reference points.
So it's just going to be impossible to root the Intel version?

I realize that the TEGRA version can be rooted. But I see no clear mention of the INTEL version having been sucessfully rooted.
Forgive me for not being as tech savy as you are. I have rooted devices before, but I find your "instructions" difficult to follow. You go from talking about Fuhu replacing the Intel with the Tegra to "get the recovery here." There doesn't seem to be any "click here for step by step instructions to root the Intel version" anywhere.

Follow the instructions in his post and use the T3 option to temporary boot a custom recovery.

Where did you say what? I didn't say you said anything specific, and that was the problem. You didn't say anything specific.
Was this not at the bottom of your first reply to my first question? "Read my less technical and uncensored ramblings on Nabi Tablet modding
Nab Tab Hacks"
Unfortunately, "less technical" to you is not "less technical" to others. For those who are not at the level of understanding that you are, ramblings are are not helpful. When a tourist asks for directions to the Met, "Practice" is not a useful answer.
You come across very cocky and annoyed at being asked for help by someone who doesn't speak the same technical language as you do. Believe me, I will never make that mistake again and I will be sure to warn others not to disturb you either.

I don't get it. You said I was too brief, vague, technical, etc when I explained something somewhere. I have no idea where that somewhere is, but offered to make it more detailed if you would tell me what post/location/place on the web I said that. I even added a smiley face so you DIDN'T interrupt me as mocking you. I make 100's of post on XDA, YouTube, Nabtabhacks, etc, etc. I simply asked which of those 100's of post you thought I was not detailed enough so I could go edited it, because I honestly didn't know. Then I proceeded to give you links to how to root the Intel Dreamtab.
What part of of my reply got you so upset that you needed to attack me as a person? I respectfully disagree with your assessment. Specifically about me being annoyed to help others, as I believe you are the only person that has ever said that to me and that there is ample proof to the contrary. While we are character assassinating here, you weren't exactly detailed when answering the question I asked you, and I feel you come off a bit entitled.
There, now we have both insulted each other, can we be friends now and move forward? Where are you stuck at with the links I provided?

Hello
I have been able to successfully root the Fuhu Nabi Dreamtab device (IN08A), here is a simple guide step by step to do it.
Furthermore, I did it on Mac Os X, but it should works the same way on Linux or Windows as long as you can access
1. Download SuperSU latest version: https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
2. Copy UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip to the device
You can either use Android File Manager or via ADB
Code:
adb push UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /storage/sdcard0/
3. Reboot the device to the boot loader with this commande
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
4. Wait a few seconds then verify the device is detected:
Code:
fastboot devices
5. Download the Intel TWRP files at: IntelAndroid-FBRL-07-24-2015.7z
then unzip
6. Using the terminal/command, put yourself in the subfolder FB_RecoveryLauncher
Code:
cd IntelAndroid-FBRL-07-24-2015/FB_RecoveryLauncher
7. Copy/paste in the terminal the following commands, 1 line at a time (so 4 times total)
Code:
OEMCMD="stop_partitioning"
OEMTRIGGER="/system/bin/logcat"
TRIGGER=fbrl.trigger
OEMCMD="stop_partitioning"
8. Copy and paste the following command and hit Enter key:
Code:
fastboot flash /tmp/recovery.zip cwm.zip; sleep 1; fastboot flash /tmp/recovery.launcher recovery.launcher ;sleep 1; fastboot oem start_partitioning; sleep 1; fastboot flash ${OEMTRIGGER} ${TRIGGER} ; echo . ; echo "issue fastboot oem ${OEMCMD} command to start cwm recovery:" ; fastboot oem ${OEMCMD} ; echo "." ; sleep 20
PS: I tried with TWRP but the touchscreen was not reacting, so I prefered to switch back to CWM
9. If all goes well, the terminal will show these lines:
Code:
target reported max download size of 1275363328 bytes
sending '/tmp/recovery.zip' (3623 KB)...
