I need help with getting Ifonz or the app for it or w/e. i have the htc touch elf think its called. i need to know everything there is to do step by step if possible and also maybe apps to make my phone run faster, more battery life, basically make it awhiole lot better is what im saying lol
if you're looking to learn about all these things you should read the Wiki..
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/
and try to go through the Elf's section to learn about your device.
can't help you without you knowing what you want/what you need.
"making it a whole lot better" is FAR less specific than you should be

Sorry for asking but everyone is a newbeeeee sometime, right
I just found this site and I really want to upgrade my HTC TyTn II with WM 6.1.
I understand that on this site aloooooot of people are writing there own application and changing the org. RAM etc etc.
I wounder WHAT RAM I should install, the official Microsoft 6.1 or...
Where to looooooook ?
Pleazzzz have faith and once more, I'm a beginner
since you are new....1st thing to do before asking a question is use the forum search function and/or go to the wiki page for your device most of your questions if not all can be answered by doing those two things...
I'm going to give you the best piece of advice I can. Don't forget the name GSLEON3. I have a feeling you might need him in the near future.
i would take the last one that came out... and everytime a new one is available -> flash it.
other possibility: start with the wiki.
Well, you won't be changing ANY RAM for years bud. No offense, but that would take a lot of address work to alter the ram alotment.
You're best friend is the wiki, & the second post on the page called Start Here.
Now I don't expect to see another question for at least 5 days to a week, becuase if you are that new, you've got a bit of reading to do.
Start with the basics & learn about roms, radios, & basic tools that make flashing & cooking possible.
DO NOT PLAY WITH THINGS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. If you're not comfortable with a process or don't understand it, DON'T DO IT! Just like anything else, you're actions will have consequences, some are good some can be devastating. So start here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
Then go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282
After reading all of the info there, then you can start asking questions for clarification without being royally flamed.

Ohh, & one last though, never trust a solution that is just flash it!
Red, read, read, understand...Then HardSPL before you even think of flashing anything.
sorry... forgot
<irony></irony>
I thought that was clear.
OK here we goooiiiiinnnng to reeeeead and reeeeeeaaad an.......
Godnight & over and out
I learned everything I needed to know from here. Everything is extensive. With a little dedication and a little geekism, you'll figure it out
My RAM doesn't fit!!!!
I'm so sorry that I didn't get to chime in earlier but I was changing the RAM on my Tilt and totally screwed up trying to fit my Laptop RAM into my phone. I couldn't find the Wiki on how to fix it. Can I tether it using Active Sync?
Hey guys,
I know I am going to sound really newby, but that is true in this PDA world for me. I recently got my HTC love, and I really love the phone.
I have surfed XDA for quite a while, and I am truly amazed at the number of PDA users. It truly is a great collection, but I have not been able to find answers to these questions. The search option has not helped much but give me several different ROM types and versions, but I dont know what exactly they are so can someone help me out on these questions please:
What exactly is ROM?
What is Flashing ROM?
Different languages of ROM?
Manila 2D ROM? Kaiser ROM? Diamond ROM?
It would be really kind if someone could answer these questions.
I appreciate your time.
Thank You
ROM stands for Read Only Memory and is the part of your phone's memory where the Operating System is stored - equivalent if you like to XP or Vista on the PC.
Flashing the ROM refers to replacing the ROM that came with your phone with another - usually written or "cooked" by enthusiasts who build in there own programs and preferences. Flashing is best done after much study as there is a chance you can wreck your phone. If you want to modify your phone it is best to start off using CAB files.
Yes there are different languages of ROMs available. A Manila2D ROM would have the Manila2D interface built into it. Kaiser and Diamond are other phones in the HTC range.
My phone slows down with the cab files, and I can see how memory plays a part there.
Also installing manila 2d was way too laggy, I kind of want more memory and space available.
So if I do the flash ROM, and have this huge ROM space, all I have to do later is to install cab files on ROM right?
Thanks for your reply Restorer.

The Phone has memory to run programs like virtual memory and storage memory partitioned (as fake) on some provided to Operative system's phone... I mean Wizard has a little and other phone has so much more... why? cause it needs more program memory or the app are more heavy ok?
well diamond ROM... Wizard ROM... hermes ROM.... here we said it as the develops on cooks some Operative systems for each other device specially for that device ok?

this is the questions an answers section, in otherwords if someone has a question give them an answer. if you are going to say "read the wiki" you need to atleast give them a link on where to start, otherwise you are just spamming.
now to ANSWER the question....
yes you can install cabs, its still windows mobile its just like when you a get a computer from dell, dell will give you windows but they will also give you a bunch of "Dell-ware" (usually a bunch of useless shareware someone is paying them to load on their computers)
When you get a new rom you still get windows you just get a choice at what you want on your phone, instead of what your service provider thinks they might be able to sell you or what they think you will use.
You can get roms in all different flavors, anything from something striped down to the very core of the operating system, or something loaded with multimedia features, or something based around a program such as a manilla rom.
to read up on this go here, MAKE SURE YOU READ, if you follow direction you will be fine but if you just jump in without reading everything you will brick your phone.
Here is some good readin that will answer some of your questions....

Welcome to forums
Perhaps if you enter to your device sub-section and have a deep read on the Wiki you´ll understand better.
Read, Search, Respect and Enjoy!
First of welcome!
I agree with orb. Go to your device subforum.
It might all seem complex at the moment, but you'll be up to speed in no time!
Just remember to search before asking dumb questions
Well i will have a look but its not easy when you dont know what your looking 4

There are enough stickies on the Desire S forums for you to get to grips with the basics and what you need to do - then if you have a particular question, which you can't answer by what you've read or by searching XDA or Google, come back and ask it
I'd suggest looking a bit up when you wrote your thread, and seeing a thread named "Complete tutorial for beginners and others". By its name you could understand that it's probably the right address.
But it looks like it might be even too complicated, because you don't seem to know what Android is at all. In that case, use Google, write "android for dummies", and see where it gets you.
You're running CyanogenMod, which isn't a build that this phone comes with. Once you understand some things around, look for the INDEX thread in Development section, and look up there the procedure of restoring to stock.
In any case, please consider googling before posting. It's a useful practice that's guaranteed to give better answers.
Ok so I'm looking to root my HTC M7, I've been told the obvious problem already, I dont know enough yet to be rooting. Sorry, still want to try. That being said, I'm looking for some direction. A good site, a good video, anything or recommendations that will help me out. Yes I have gone to You Tube step by step videos but I always seem to run into a problem. For example, the person in the video says to follow a link below in description, I go and the link is no longer there. Or, maybe its there but takes me somewhere different than described. One of them even changed my browser to AVG (I know, I'm retarded).
Does anyone have any ideas on where to go, where to learn and where it will literally be a step by step?
By the way, the unlocking part seems easy enough. I think its from that point I run into trouble. Also, why? Everyone seems to want to know why. Simple, I would really like to learn for one. Second, I hate the garbage att lays in on me. Id like to mess with the speed (I've heard this is possible) and Id like more choices. I just want to keep the phone interesting. The last reason, I saw yesterday. If its not BS, Id like to get function from my HTC logo.
So I hope this is not to silly for all of you. If so, I do apologize.
Thanks, Chris
root htc m7
have you tried this?

Yes, it may sound repetitive but read, read and read it again. There is an incredible amount of knowledge contained throughout this site. Sometimes the smallest mistake/oversight can lead to a huge headache, that's why its so important to have a basic understanding of any modifications you are about to make. Start with the dedicated forum for ur service provider/phone. All the info your going to need will be included in the forum and subsequent sub-forums. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions, we've all been in the same spot before. Use the tools that the site provides, search for your answers and read thru the forums.

Thanks.
Thanks for the help. I did end up finding more help in the dedicated area, especially when I went to my phones forums. Huge thanks for the encouragement. I will deff. read a little more before jumping off the cliff. Looks like the process has become much easier and people are developing all in one tools. Cool stuff, thanks again!
