HELP: I (think) I killed my fuze! - Touch Pro, Fuze General

So I guess I'm the only idiot that's dropped his Fuze... Well maybe not the only, but the first that dropped it in such a way to not cause any (visible) physical damage, but enough to make the phone inoperable. Fair enough, I can accept the Dunce cap for this one.
The Phone works, receives calls/messages, even sync's with Activesync. Just one problem, The screen is black. The backlight turns on, but no image is displayed. Not even any of the boot screens. Sounds work, I sync'ed up all my data, everything seems fine, except for the screen.
So here is my Dilemma: Is there anything I can do to fix the phone? Or Am I going to have to re-flash the device to factory settings and try to call att/htc to get a replacement for a device that "just stopped working"?
I'd rather fix it myself just to avoid dealing with the carrier/manufacturer, but if that's my only option than so be it. Please Advise.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

You can try MyMobiler:
http://www.brothersoft.com/mymobiler-116759.html
But there might be something to accept/allow on the cellphone itself to see the screen. So maybe you can navigate to something on your phone to get it to work. Other than that, I have no idea.
Good luck, maybe reflashing doesn't seem like too bad of an idea.

sell it to me, its broken

Happened to my Kaiser, screen was white though, rather than black.
Take all the data off you can with MyMobiler and reflash a stock rom. Should still be covered under warranty. I did the exact same thing with my Kaiser.
Flashed the standard ATT upgrade rom, brought it in to warranty replacement and said the screen randomly turned white.
In and out in a few minutes with a new Kaiser. He made me keep my old battery back.
Because it is a problem where no physical damage is apparent, it will be difficult for them to determine if it is simply a manufacture defect where the screen went bad or if it is user accidental.
I actually dropped my Fuze for the first time last night (or this morning, I dont recall). My best friends girlfriend clothelined me while I was texting and the phone went flying, back fell off and battery chucked out. Slid across the ground for a bit. A tiny dent in a corner and some nice scratches on the stock screen protector, other than that A-okay. Invisible shield helped quite a bit ^.^
(I use invis body shield and stock screen protectors, the IS is a strange texture and too grippy for a screen protector)

I have dropped my Touch PRO about 5 times to tarmac while getting out from the car but nothing happened yet

do you have insurance on the phone? if you do, then its covered otherwise it is unfortunate.. all new phones, especially ppc's I insure with my local SF insurance.. that is the rule.

Same exact thing happened to me minus the clothesline. Landed on the corner, back and battery popped out, powered it back up and black screen of death. Didn't want to wait till tomorrow to get it replaced but oh well, I'll be even more careful than I already am with it. I just need to reflash it to the stock ROM/SPL now. Thankfully I still have my Tilt as a backup.

I do have insurance, when they offered it at the Store I almost said yes before the rep finished explaining it. So I'll just reflash it to a stock ROM/SPL and get it replaced tomorrow.

If you guys have the fuze through AT&T then you can get warranty replacements quite easily as long as there isn't obvious physical damage suggesting user abuse, ie no crushed screens, liquid damage, etc.
Someone here might suggest that this is unethical abuse of the warranty exchange system, but I will vehemently disagree! Cell phones should absolutely be able to withstand occasional drops from pocket level to concrete, as this is a quite common occurence. Hell, my laptop was designed to be able to take a fall from a table top.
So I would suggest you call AT&T and tell them your screen just stopped working one day. Say you've done a hard reset and everything else they'll suggest you try, and they'll send you a refurb in the mail with a box to send yours back in. I would suggest reflashing the stock rom and spl before returning, though.
BTW, if I were to guess about the cause for the inoperable screen, it would be that the lcd connector came loose in the jolt from the fall. So if for some reason warranty exchange isn't an option, perhaps you could venture into the guts of your device and try firmly reseating the connector...

Screen colors leaked in middle of screen?

This is the second fuze ive owned... and this is also the second time this has happened. In the middle of the screen there is a small block of like a rainbow of colors... but you can only see it in certain light...
Has anyone else ever come across this?

Mine too.. But i have a screen protector on it so I figured maybe its the screen protector? never really check it without the screen protection.
Yes.
My first fuze did this after a few days, its an exact square with sort of a frame, I was thinking it was condensation, but my phone has been dry always....
I thought it was weird that it was square shaped and a almost perfect square.
Anyone know what this is?
Yep...nothing unusual for raph unfortunatelly...my old post:

BTW, this is well known issue by HTC so replacement is in most cases done free of charge as a part of warranty. Eventhough I've heard that in some cases in UK, HTC was demanding some kind of payment for replacement.
Anyway, this cannot be fixed in any other way but replacing the screen....afaik
I was told that it means that the screen under the digitizer is broken. Most likely from pressure on the middle of the screen.

Oh man, mine just expanded Can I know what did you guys do?
Pressure between flat wires, conductive tapes and backside of LCD screen causes the problem. You should take apart your Raphael to see the back of LCD. There is a very thing black tape around the display. Check it for any kinf of damage. If there is no sign of penetration, make the same thin tape from any kind of office tape and place it over dark one. I hope this can help you.
Be a HTC Indiana Jones, take the danger and DIY!
i was just about to start a post about this. the middle of my screern (75% of the screen) has these rainbow swirls and they form a perfect rectangle. you can also see a grid of dots. once i noticed this square i started havin problems where its as if someone is pressing the touchscren just on top right corner of this rectangle. so i cant go through menus and it will randomly go away. it also happens on other random locations. can someone explain what i should do?
Mine just did the same thing. The phone seems to work normally. I called and I am sending it in for warranty repair. Is there any way to prevent this from happening in the future? If they replace the screen, do they have some process in place to prevent the same issue? I really love this phone!
Oh, and now my iPhone loving friends are all saying, "You shoulda got an iPhone!" I dont want a crappy iPhone, I just want a good screen! This is my second phone already.....I have never dropped or abused it in any way.... I really wish they used better quality screens. i can do tons more stuff with my phone that my "iPhone friends" cannot....
UPDATE: to anyone who gets this problem. I finally got around to calling ATT and they say its not a known problem so its not covered within warrenty. They want 500 to fix it.... Then I called HTC and they said this is whats known as a Newton ring and its due to pressure applied to the screen so they wont fix it under warrenty. Now they are asking for 200 for it to be fixed. Not worth the fix if u ask me. Thier rep was pretty shocked it was on a Fuze and said hes seen this before and they never fix it under warrenty so its not worth sending it in unless im prepared for the bill.

fuze screen (damage?), at&t warranty (crap?)

I searched the forums and google and couldn't find an image similar to what is happening to my fuze.
So yesterday I noticed a problem with my fuze screen, and i don't know if i can't explain the problem or what, but at&t is convinced it's damaged and will charge me a bunch if i even try to send it in.
There are no cracks, scratches, whatever. (I wish i could take a pic, but the only cam i have is the phone)
The problem is that the surface of the screen (I think the soft touch screen top) seems to have a thin layer of 'something' in there. It is the same shape as the screen, centered, and about 70% of the screen's size. The effect is something like the shimmer/rainbow from a very thin layer of oil on water. (thin film interference?) Anyways, the touch screen still works, the lcd still works, the glass isn't cracked, and I have no idea what happened. I use a screen protector and am very protective of my baby.
I'm thinking I need to order a new digitizer and replace that? ($25 and some labor doesn't sound bad after talking to AT&T about what i would get charged if they decide it's physical damage)
I dunno, if anyone has experience with damage like this or at&t or replacing digitizers and has any words to help me, either with explaining what happened or what i should do, that would be much appreciated.
I had the EXACT same problem on my fuze. It looked like the layers of the screen began to seperate. AT&T scared me that they would charge me for this so I sent it directly to HTC and they replaced the screen at no cost to me...took about 2 weeks.
AT&T Warranty agents are trained to be cautious in regards to damage to devices as the mail program doesn't leave much(any) option once you send the phone back for the exchange. It's either no-damage/no-charge or damage/charged, after which you cannot go back on the exchange.
My advice is to see if there is a Device Support Center in your area.
http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&solutionId=KB91429
I went to one with my possibly damaged Fuze and they took a look at it and exchanged it without any "possible" charges jargon.
If that isn't an option, you could buy a pre-paid phone to use while you send it in to HTC as TheSopranos16 did for repair.
Good luck!
Sir, the problem you have is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439410
I only hope my xperia doesn't get it.
i have this same exact problem. its technically called a newton ring. att wanted $500 to fix it and the htc rep told me that whenever they encounter this they usualy dont cover under warenty because it is due to pressure on the screen and it would cost something like $300 to fix. so i basically said forget it and now im stuck with it.

Water or some kind of spot behind the screen

Hey guys. My TP seems to have a streak that looks like water/oil behind the screen. This phone is only a couple of months old and I've taken good care of it. It hasn't been anywhere near water (the water damage indicator is intact).
I read somewhere that this isn't water, but that when the LCD and the touch overlay make contact, it can produce this spot.
My concern is that this phone is being warrantied next week. My friend was kind enough to push it through for me, but he warned that when they get my current phone back after they mail me the replacement, they'll notice that mark. After that, they might void my warranty and charge me full retail for the phone ($550, after I already paid $350 for this one).
He suggested that I CAREFULLY take the phone apart and clean that mark up before I send it back (he thinks it's a water spot, but he's not sure). I can do that and try my best to avoid voiding the warranty (stickers, etc). However, I figured I'd ask here first and see what other suggestions I can get on how best to clean this mess up.
Any suggestions?
It's probably a Newton Ring. Don't put the phone in your pocket. It's usually caused by pressure on the digitizer.
The digitizer is basically two transparent conductive sheets squishing a gel between them. When you touch with the stylus, it dimples one sheet so they touch. Constant pressure over a large area will cause the gel to become nonuniform in thickness and you get the oily looking mark.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475294
-I had this happen on a PDA I had once and I think it went away, or maybe I massaged the digitizer a little and it made it better, I don't remember. But it did get better.
Oh excellent, thanks for your reply man That thread was informative. Yeah, that's what I thought it was too, but I wasn't sure, still pretty new to this. Do you think VZW/HTC will void the mfg warranty over it (like they would over water damage)?
What I'm basically getting at is, should I go through the effort of trying to get rid of the spot so they won't kick up a fuss, or will they cover it no problems?
If you open your handset you will definetly void your warranty
HTC are aware of this 'Newton Ring' issue with the touch pro device.
As such, do not do anything to your handset, simply return it under the warranty and get yourself a replacement, if they kick up a fuss, deny payment and get them to verify you caused the fault.

Yeah, I'm not going to open it I was contemplating it, but it seems like the warranty should cover this "problem." I just hope Verizon doesn't kick up a fuss about it. If they do, I'll follow your advice and get them to verify that I caused the fault.
Thanks for the feedback

so i think my digitser is effed :/

this is whats going on. one night my screen was letting me select stuff just fine. the next morning i woke up and the screen was unresponsive. now the hardware keys do work just fine. now heres the the bad part. i figured that the issue was originally casued by my CFW so i did a hard reset.... unfortunally that wasnt the problem.i did knotice that when i do tap the screen when the backlight dims down it does brighten up. i donno if that helps. anyone have any ideas. oh and yes it an att phone. no i dont have warranty on it( i got them to upgade my phones that being said the phone went swimming in a hot tub a few months ago)
BUMP~!!!!!!!1
come on anyone have any suggestions???
My digitiser broke a couple of months ago, I had weird oily patterns under the screen that were only visible in some kinds of light (especially flourescent), and reduced sensitivity. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is maybe to check for those oily patterns if you're worried it could be the digitiser. I had to get a replacement on insurance though, so can't be much help with how to fix it.
yah its had an oily square on the screen that if u looked at the right angle ud see it that being said it wasnt to big. also that square was on there for almost 7-8 months and like i said when the digitiser went out it kinda worked the night before and then it stopped working the next morning
Sounds like it could be the digitiser then... If you're good with electronics, you could buy a new digitiser and try to replace it maybe? I'm a bit pants at stuff like that though, so just got a new one.
If you get it fixed, apparently the fault is caused by too much pressure on the screen, so keep it out of jeans pockets
A quick look on ebay shows one for £15 (about 25$ i think), comes with tools (well - a plastic scraper / pry & a t6 or t5 screwdriver) - no instructions with the auction - but if you check the wiki it has a dissasembly guide.
Changing the digitiser isnt for everyone - normally (well i found for my old Kaiser) there are ebay sellers who will supply & fit (for a small fee) the parts, ofc check their rating before you send your phone away! Or google for a repair shop close to home - i would estimate you shouldnt pay more than about $40-50 to have a digitiser supplied & fitted, quite possibly much less, depending on the shop of course.

Any hope left for glass replacement?

So a few weeks back I managed to completely shatter the screen on my beautiful GS3, and figuring it would be cheaper to get a new piece of glass off ebay for $8 rather than go through insurance, I decided to give that a shot. Everything seemed to be going fairly well, and I powered up my device and thankfully it still worked! My only issue was that I had rubbed off a bit too much glue and the glass had some difficulty staying attached to the phone, and would often cause the touchscreen to glitch. I would just push the glass firmly down against the screen and it worked fine. I had tried numerous times to reheat and reapply the screen, but to no avail. A few weeks go by and besides the occasional glitching it goes pretty well, and I try a few more times to get the screen to stick still with no luck. Finally today I decided to try a bit of double stick tape, which didn't stick nearly as well as I had hoped but when I went to unlock my phone..... darkness. Strangely, the touch still seems to be working as apparently I accidentally started calling someone before restarting my phone. I can still feel it vibrating sometimes when I touch it, and it definitely boots, but I can't see anything. When I power it on, if I am in a room with complete darkness I can see the back light briefly power on before turning off again.
Is there anything I can do to try and save my precious before having to get a replacement via insurance? If not, is there an easy way to make a nandroid and extract it from my phone to put on the new one?
Sounds to me like the digitizer is shot. You will have to do an insurance claim or send to Samsung for repairs.
As far as backing up the phone, there is a way to do it. You need to search for adb how to and learn that. There are ways to do it all over these forums.
Good luck!
