[Q] Remove apps that won't completely remove? - General Questions and Answers

I have a few installed programs that I want to get completely off of my Vogue. When I go the the Remove Programs and remove them I get a notification that it wasn't completely removed and asks if I want to delete it from the list of installed programs. If I select Yes it will go away but come right back... I made sure they are not running and then using TotalCommander I searched and found/deleted all files I could find and also did the same in the registry with RegEdit. But all attempts to remove these apps fails, they will not go away! What to do next?? (Without doing a hard reset)

Try MemMaid -- http://www.dinarsoft.com/memmaid/

Try SK tools....its pretty effective. You can download a trial version and give it a go.

Removing programs from the phone

The problem I'm having is that when I go to settings > system > remove programs, it only lists the first 11 programs that I've installed myself, so I cant see / remove newer programs since they are not listed there.
The programs (all cab files) were installed through usb via active sync.
Is there a tweak or a registry setting that can be used to keep that program list updated and show every program installed.
If not, how can I uninstall a program completely from within my phone itself ?
I'm trying to avoid uninstalls through active sync.
I wish I had an answer for you. I have been looking for an Installation Monitor, Registry Monitor, Filesystem Monitor tool for a long time now but I don't think there is one out there. What an Installation Monitor essentially would do is monitor any cab that you install and create a log of what that cab added/modified. That way, when you come to uninstall it you could perform a FULL uninstall and it would truely bring your device back to what it was before you installed the cab.
There are many of these types of tools for Windows XP/Vista but I haven't seen anything for WM6. Also there may be some limitations as these installation logs could be quite long. Regular Windows software such as "Advanced Uninstaller Pro" and they seem to do a good job.
I wish there was one for WM6 because everytime I install something and don't like it and remove it, it seems to leave hundreds of files lying around. I hate that...
The closest thing I have seen to an uninstaller program that goes beyond the standard Windows uninstaller is SKTools. It has an option to perform a "deep scan" for installed programs and it attempts to remove all files that that cab added and revert all registry keys back to their original state. I am still testing it out on Windows Mobile Emulator. It looks like if the original cab didn't create an installation log, WM doesn't know it got installed.
I just experienced this for the first time myself, although I have about 20 programs in my remove programs list. Opera 8.65 doesn't show up in the list of installed programs, even though it is there and still works. I was trying to uninstall it from main memory and try it on the storage card but I guess I'll have to hard reset to really get rid of it. Any other ideas?

Hard reset no bloatware speed

Rather than flashing the FuZE... if I do a hard reset with the trick to not install the AT&T bloatware, will that make the phone any faster?
Also... I just ran a backup with Sprite to my memory card. It is backing up 165mb of stuff. Does that mean that is is backing up all of the AT&T bloatware? I had all boxes checked off except Storage Card. What will the backup entail? It would be kind of stupid if it backed up all of the software I'm trying to remove.
if you have everything ticked in sprite backup then its probably backuping your registry as well.. I'd say go through the options of sprite backup and tick only what you want backed up.
Then hard reset and soft reset right after its booted up before it installs the customizations.. or just use a cooked rom..
I tried to figure out what to uncheck - hopefully this goes right... Will it speed everything up though?
No Manila2D after soft reset?
Question, I just did this. Did the soft reset when it's customizing, and now I don't have the Manila2D installed or at least it's not visible. TouchFlo is in fact there, I see it in Settings, but I do I have to separately find the cab to install it? I'm looking around the file system right now to see if it's on there so I can just install it from there.
Right now, it's just the regular Windows Mobile interface.
Thanks.

Don...I had the same issue with my Fuze. Here is what you do...
Hard Reset on phone
pull battery when customization screen pops up
Reboot
Go to Windows Explorer and look for the following .cab files(I did them in this order):
PT_Manila_REG (TF3D)
MSFT_Security (policy work around - needed)
WM6_PPC (Opera browser)
Java_Preloads (needed for browser)
Optional:
Remove Hidden Proxy
OzIM (multi IM program - I like and use regulary)
MobileBackup (free and I use it)
Once you have done this, reboot and go to this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=413562
for some really nice tweaks. Before you do these tweaks though, you'll want to download the following files (sorry, you'll have to look for them):
.NETCF 3.5 (get this from Microsoft site)
Schaps Advanced Config v3.3
some type of registry editor (I have Schap's)
What tweaks you do are up to you...best thing is to experiment and decide what you like best.
Additional files that I have downloaded because of what I use my phone for are the following:
fp7_ppc (flashplayer v7 for pocket pc)
cesetup (Citrix Client software for ppc)
ManilaCustomizer (fantastic program for editing TF3D) get this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437420
Diamond TF3d Config (another fantastic program for tweaking TF3D)
mUn BackGround4AllPages (changes the background on all of the TF3d tabs to match the Home tab)
LiveSearch
Google Maps
WiFiFoFum (wireless net detector)
Fun files that I have installed:
DivX
Lightsaber 1.0 (yes, I am a Star Wars nerd!!)
YahooGoNet
Having all these various programs installed, my Fuze blisters! I had a Tilt previous and tried almost every custom ROM for it over the course of a year. When I got this phone, I was already aware of how to not install the bloat from AT&T. Thanks to other helpful people on xda, I was able to locate the files that I wanted to install. Hope this helps and have fun with your phone, I know I am!!
pghguy1989,
THANK YOU. You were right on the money. I loaded these cab files:
PT_Manila_REG (TF3D)
MSFT_Security (policy work around - needed)
WM6_PPC (Opera browser)
Java_Preloads (needed for browser)
And rebooted, and I'm back up and running with my TouchFlo. That was exactly what I wanted. I was annoyed that it did put some of the AT&T branding on there, but I don't really care. I'm going to now use the TFCustomizer, and clean it up.
Thanks a TON. I was going crazy googling and looking for the right cab files to make it happen!
Can't thank you enough.

unable to remove some programs !!!

i am unable to remove some theme files that i installed on my att fuze. i get an error message
"application was not completely removed. Do you want to remove it from the list of installed programs?"
also is there a way to get back the original att fuze theme back???? though i would love to have the original htc touch pro theme somehow!!!
Please help!!!!!
The multiple punctuation isn't necessary -- somebody always notices new questions. You don't explain what you did to get to this point, but given your other questions I have a feeling you'll need to hard reset and start over -- that will get you back to stock condition. If you don't know how, read the wiki.
Also, the search function really does work -- there are themes all over the place. You can use TF3D config and load a theme of your choice. Or my preferred one is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447056
If you get a "program not removed, would you like to delete from programs list" message, click "No", soft reset, then try again.

Uninstaller/uninstall???

Hi Everyone,
I have recently installed the .cab version 1.2.4 of Smart Protect to my HTC Touch HD, however when I came to uninstall it, which I tried by entering the password "123456" to the programs built in uninstaller, this was unsucessful as it gave me an error message.
So I went to settings, system, remove programs and tried from there (it didn't ask for a password). This cleared the application from the programs menu, although now when I start the phone it gives me an error securityservice.exe cannot start... or something along those lines.
Basically I'm just asking for an uninstaller/instructions to manually uninstall, here is a list of some of the processes that I believe this program might be using: rapiclnt, SmsCommand.exe, NK.exe BTW I dont know for sure but I've never seen these processes running before so I suspect that the program has not completely uninstalled. Also there are still some reg keys (which I dont want to remove without someone with more experience has told me its safe to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, ControlPanel, Security, SSecure.
Thanks in advance,
Grant.
P.S. I've also posted on the devolopers tread but i haven't had a reply so i guess that the thread is dead.
\windows\startup
and delete the shortcut to it
Thanks for the advice Should I delete the reg key that I talked about in my first post? Because it stores all of the Smart Protect settings, e.g partner number, app password(encrypted), partner name ect...
Again thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated.
Grant.

How do you remove a program that "cannot be removed"

I tried to install a different version of tomtom over an existing one and it did not remove the old program properly. It is still in the program list and when I try to remove it I get a message that it cannot be removed.
It means that I can't install any new TT at the moment and can't run the old one. Is there a way to find the leftover bits and get rid if them?
same difficulties here, but in my case is with the "dotcompt ZoomAdds v1.2" CAB.
Reinstall the software again
you will go through the same steps of installation BUT IN FACT IT IS REMOVING IT
Some soft may be difficult to remove.
In such case, the best is often to install the program again and try do disable it in the setting.
Then uninstall it again.
The best way to uninstall totally a soft is to use SK Tools.
