What the fuss is about is that people ask the same question day in and day out and people answer questions, only to have them asked again and again...the link given is the best place to look...look at other members signatures and see where they are and what radio they are using...secondly try some of them...it doesnt take but a minute to flash from radio to radio...Also, the quality of the radio is different due to numerous factors, programs you use, area you are in, rom you use etc...so it is too hard to determine what is the best...I personally have tested 5 different radios and always come back to the one in my signature..

I am looking at the radio thread but I want your opinions too.

Our opinions are: you must test several radios to check what is the best for you.

Check my signature for the radio thread and what my opinion is of a good radio......PM some people or look in their signature and you can tell which radio they like and are using...I am currently testing 4 different radios, but always come back to the one in my signature...

And Dont Be Starting New Threads

As posted in countless other places, all "best radio" threads will be closed.

Best Radio for Hong Kong

Can anyone tell me what is the best radio to use in Hong Kong. Trying 1.64.08.21 right now, but battery life not so good.
did you really need to start a whole new thread?
OK - just forget it - this is why I do not post to this forum! you guys are way too touchy! I did not see a 'what is the best radio' thread to post to. In the last 3 weeks I have flown Shanghai > KL > Mumbai > Delhi > Mumbai > KL > Singapore > KL > Shanghai > Shenzhen > Mumbai > Hong Kong (if your head is spinning reading this just imagine mine)! I have 2 days off here, and I upgraded a friends ROM while here - and as I leave for Seoul in the morning I want to make sure that I leave him with the best Radio for the area! I simply did not have the time to search this and try and find a better thread to post the question to!
Once again - sorry for the huge inconvenience that this thread has caused! Mods please close or delete the thread.
yea, we're touchy, cause you started a thread that is 1) redundant, 2) has nothing to do with ROM development.
if you or your friend dont have the time to read or search or try out the radios, then you shouldnt be flashing at all in the first place. your time is not any more precious than the time of any member here.
I dont need to be in hong kong to answer this question. This question is pretty obvious and from reading the radio threads, all radios work just as well. Some of them have very little difference. Easy answer...a working radio with the rom will be your answer. I've seen differences with GPS, but that will come with experimenting. Reception wise, they are all similar.

This is news to me - from what are you saying, it would seem your location does not matter, and that all radios will work the same in all areas? Why is it that in almost all radio related threads, people are mentioning their location and sp? And I can find numerous threads where senior members say that your location does matter;

that is why I asked the question. I am not a noob, the reason that I have such a low post count is because I DO usually use search. I admit I should have taken a bit more time to search before I posted - sorry everyone for the redundant post. I do not want to get into a flame war here!
as I said before - MODS PLEASE delete or close this thread.

before mods lock this thread, maybe could say one last thing. Location does matter, but when it comes to moving within a couple miles, your radio reception can change drastically. You use one radio and it works well in one area, but suck in a building. Then you use another radio in one area and it sucks somewhere else. Most radios that I've tried, they work just about the same. Some have good reception, but kills battery, but has good GPS reception. Theres no telling what is considered best in a certain area. You could talk to different people from Hong Kong, and my guess would be, many of them would give you different answers on what is the best radio. There is a belief that some radios work well better than others, but my opinion, majority of the radios work just as well regardless of location. It's when you consider the trade offs such as battery life, that extra half strength of bar on reception, and GPS is what you gotta consider.

Why does the reception fall once 3G is activated on this device

So far every rom I have tried end up having very bad reception with 3G activated. The reception goes back to 100% with it disabled (EDGE)
Any idea why is this happening? Any fix out there?
what about your radio???
signal strength is more likely a radio issue than a ROM issue...
what radio are you using?
are you sure your radio is compatible with your ROM?
and finally....some radios Work better in certain countries...
this is a link to the "ultimate radio thread...."
read about different radios there and see what radio fits your rom...
you might also see members from your part of the world describe what radio gave the best 3G signal...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182
the 3G signal is actually a weaker signal in regards to signal strength. That's why you are able to pick up a better GSM signal then you are a 3G signal.
This has always been the case and it's the same for HSDPA as well.
Keep trying different radio's until you find one that fits your needs.

It depends on the band your provider is using and where you are. For example. In Las Vegas, AT&T is using 850Mhz for Edge and 1900Mhz for HSDPA. 850Mhz penetrates walls/cars/etc. much better than the 1900Mhz spectrum so Edge 'usually' provides a better signal. Which, by the way, means the radio works less hard and does not drain the battery as quickly. That is not the only reason Edge gets better battery performance mind you but - at least in this case - it is a factor.
In some parts of the country AT&T using 850 for HSDPA and 1900 for Edge so the tables could actually be turned.
As with many isssues - there are not absolutes - just a bunch of variables that need to be taken into account.
i a not trying to be a **** but what does this have to do with Windows mobile 6? this is a radio problem not a rom development issue, and to make matters worse a mod commented on this topic with out moving it...
I can only say what my own experience has been. In South Africa we have about 98% GPRS Coverage and about 94% Edge coverage. 3G(and HSDPA) however covers only about 40%. The short version is that there are less towers available that actually give 3G/HSDPA and that your device will switch to one (even if the signal stregth is lower) if it is available. The problem is that you have good GPRS coverage (Say 10 towers to a specific areas) and 3G/HSDPA have dismal coverage (Say about 3 towers to the same said area.
On the bright side, our service providers charge for Data only (Fast or slow it is the same price).
If I am not utilising the internet sharing feature I switch 3G/HSDPA off and have crystal clear reception ALL the time!

Seems like you're spending a lot of time complaining about the way things are run around here. I know everyone appreciates the useful contributions that you make. We are aware that you don't like a lot of things here, no need to rehash what you've already stated multiple times. Moderating is a time consuming and mostly thankless job, so maybe you should ease up a bit buddy.
seriously? whats the point of different sections of a forum then? why have Moderators? Sorry i am the only one speaking what i feel around here but it seems this forum has been a flame zone and a place for rudendent questions. Moderation is not that hard "click move post" done. there are some great minds on Xda and i have seen many of them walk away because of crap like this over and over again. How many radio threads are there?
if you would like to continue this lets do it over PM as not to waste space
Ok, enough already. This is a radio question. There is no radio forum so there is no other place but software and general. Thus it belongs with the other threads pertaining to radio's which happens to be in the Rom development section.
@ austin
I've noticed that lately you have been extremely upset with XDA. You have been a great developer around here and you will be missed, of this I am sure. With that said, you are more than welcome to enjoy YOUR forum.

If it's that bad, why do you continue coming back and starting things?
With all that said, "why can't we all just get along?"
thanks guys I'll give diff radios a shot. I usually go by what the Chef reccomends but just noticed that even after flashing Roms and radio reccomendations from diff chefs my 3G has always been bad. Thought I might have missed a fix out there like the keyboard fix for non-At&t roms.
yes lets all get along!

Seems that now you are blaming to XDA,. if its not like XDA, and your signature reader have to trust you about your private link, then why keep coming here?
Dont you have a better place there? that have their own Development tools? Apps? and ROMs?
Then if you have a better place there, then you keep coming here, for what? just to post unuseful post and so the reader could read your signature too??
haha,. its a bit funny right here,.
XDA-Developer have their believe and their developers, and so did yours,.
and if you keep blaming like that, i would say that,
"If your forum was that good, and famous with their own development tools, why should you promote it until you write "PM - For access to my private forum!!" more than once? is it quiet there? why should we go to PM? whats you got to hide?"
So many Site with their development tools, and developers, but those site just didnt need to promote like that, and you know, almost them all could be crowded, just without promoting like yours"
I grow up from XDA developer, if you keep blaming it (even you said that you dont blaming XDA, but your words, show me that) then i'll guarantee, that your forum was ugly, thats why you keep blaming XDA, because you are jealous of it,.
Sorry for bad english

Just going to stick this in before tread is closed, I visited youre dev. forum. Its full of warez and bad luang (not like me whit bad spelling typos but rude meaningless talk). I really didnt see how youre board will be bether than xda just by letting users beeing able to post warez and talk unmoderated ****? You been a good contributor but isnt you part of what could pull xda down? Beeing all negative and rude to everyone that looks up to you, we all are happy for you having youre own board. But bothom line if you going to be a ****head and just here to recruit why dont you stick to it? Really, this stuff has to stopp.
(now moderate me, but someone had to say it)
Now this is good reading!! lets take this into a thread of its own in the proper place
My sig is the way it is at Mods request thats why you must PM for a link
Also why not advertise, why not let people know that i am starting a forum that allows freedom of speech that includes "swearing/flaming/what not"? I like a nice quite forum thats the whole point, why would i want a bunch of threads made up of questions that are commen knowledge to someone with any type of Windows Mobile would know. Look this isnt about my forum lol, this about a post that had nothing to do with ROM development in the rom development section about something that has been talked about over and over and over again. I am not knocking Xda in anyway shape or form no matter how you may "read it" (Garmin) maybe your understanding of the english language is off? and you missed the point i was making!

just got the kaiser, now...which is the BEST rom to install?

as the title says...?
I've been using Dutty's for the past few months, but it seems like ROMeOS is the best these days...
Probably the same one as the answer to the last time this question was asked... Oh, about 20 minutes ago. Please use the search. That's why it's there.
Seriously though, Best rom? Good question. Many are geared towards different ways of using the device. Best advice is to READ descriptions and threads like the rest of us and do your own research.

there is not the best one in general, but one that fits your needs.

Like the others said - and it of course depends on your preferences (i.e. type of apps, performance, appearance, etc.)
A good rule of thumb (ALL NOOBS TAKE THIS HINT!!) would be to look at the postings for recent ROMS and see how many responses there are to the thread. It could be a red herring if there have been a few bugs, but generally it indicates a popular ROM and from reading (yes read the initial posts please!) you can quickly determine if this might be a ROM for you. The responses from users will highlight any issues that may be specific to the software you'd like to run.
Maybe the mods can close this now - or maybe create a "Which ROM should you flash - read this first" Sticky that paraphrases this to prevent this weekly question.
if you are looking for a multimedia ROM (stable) i suggest Dutty's April 29 ROM
if you are looking for fast and fancy ROM i suggest ROMEOS 3.5
here ya go
But still like said above it has to be a ROM that fits ur needs.
cheers

Then try another and another and keep going until you can answer that question for yourself. READ! for your self and learn. The bottom line is the best rom is a myth! it only can be the best if you say it is so. What I believe to be the Best you might Flash and think it sucks. Do some work on your own and learn! My thing is, I am rather new to the ROM-flashing thing. I've quickly learned alot about how to do all this, and now what I'm lacking is a cohesive sense of what ROMs are out there that I can try on my phone - I haven't the time or the inclination to scroll through dozens of pages back through the Kaiser forum looking for ROMs to try. It would be nice to have a single sticky thread where all the available Kaiser ROMs are listed (in the Kaiser forum, and other similar threads for other phones in the other forums) that just hyperlink to the appropriate thread for each ROM.
What that gives the Noob especially is a list of all the ROMs they can try. I'm just guessing that I've seen even 1% of the available ROMs. I have no idea if I'm choosing one I really like, or one I settle on because I can't find the rest.
It's really little more than a question of convenience. By having a single list of all the available Kaiser ROMs, it makes it easy for me to look at them all and choose one. Such a thread does not need any discussion to be allowed, it's just a source of information. If people want to discuss a ROM, they can discuss it in the thread that is linked to from the main list.
Does this make sense?

Trolling for regulars
vikasraj dont worry mate this board is chock full of regulars who belive that anyone who comes here should read every single post, of course it is perfectly reasonable to ask for a quick list of popular roms but that would be far too easy and lets face it give the sad regulars nothing much to read, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the regular users here apart from the flashing info, they really don't add much apart from stupid pointless 'read the board' comments, I am here to find a new rom (the last one all the regs said was great is buggy as hell) and yes a rom chart would have saved a lot of time. Like you I have a life.
Forum a dictionary meaning
A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas
Did not the original message fall into this meaning.
By its very nature the posting of Roms is trying to compete with other roms.
So a thread that simply rates roms would be a good idea and give constructive comment and possibily the sort of feedback the rom builders are looking for and why they do what they do.
It would also help those that want to extend their experience, and not get frighten away by high minded comment.
Thats All
I suggest thread starter to just see the benchmarking of Kaiser ROM's done by one of Our friends out there in the kaiser forum. I will provide link whenever I get it but its better for now to search yourself for it. Go by facts & not by values. Hope it will help you. Good luck. I think we should move forward to help cookers in making ROM better.

Why are we doing this again ? I understand that people are (especially it seems the noobs ) incredibly lazy. No one wants to do their homework, no one wants to test drive. no one wants to think. Everyone wants someone else(no matter what their qualifications) to tell them what is the best.
The chefs here do not make these roms for you or me. They make these roms for the challenge and for themselves and then they share them with us. How offensive would it then be , to subject them to a competition .
It would be like going to a Hot Rod or Custom car show and judging people's hours , months or years of artistic and engineering work with a dismissive " that one sucks, not enough cup holders " guess what ? It wasn't built for you, it was shared with you. Your opinions are yours, why should chefs be forced to confront these ( mostly uninfomed opinions ) in a public forum.
Every rom has it's own thread to rate and evaluate the rom, and to try to work out whether it is the rom that is at fault or the user. That is more than enough discussion for the chefs to improve the rom.

These are the type of comments we want our chefs to be subject to on a concentrated thread ?

This isa rom DEVELOPMENT forum. Ie if your not either posting a new rom in development or about the process of cooking and development.....you should not start a new thread here. The Kaiser generall forum is a great place for this type of discussion.
also a good way to get a overall list of the most popular roms would be to sort this forum by how many posts a thread has....click at top. And that will continue to be useful as long as people only post new roms and development related topics in here.
This topic should be moved to the kaiser generall forum and it would be taken much better/ignored by the more senior members/admins

[POLL] Which radio is most reliable for you?

Feel free to discuss your location in the comments as well, as that can have an effect.

correct me if i'm wrong
but I'm pretty sure the Stock Rogers radio is the same as the 1.73 ATT one.
(stock rogers ROM is 1.73 base, so It should be 1.73 Radio as well.)

It might be a little more effective than a poll, since this is a largely location based issue. (Some radios perform better than others depending on region)
no sure if serious but you put poll ....
Just going to leave this right here...

Yup, "best" radio is usually geographic more than anything. So doing a poll like this, that doesn't take location into account is pretty much meaningless.
And this doesn't belong in Development.

Was your point that it's a redundant thread or that it doesn't belong in DEV? I considered both points, but went ahead and posted since (1) it's a little different from taylor's thread since it's a poll instead of a map and (2) I think it's dev related since radios can be a big issue with some ROMs.
Anyway, some mods want to chime in? If it's inappropriate, go ahead and move it. I'm not trying to clutter up the forum. Just thought it might be useful even though it's not broken down by region. (and the poll's already had several responses, so at least SOME other people seem to agree)
EDIT: dg I tried to thank you to show I'm not just trying to be argumentative - but I already used all my thanks for the day!!
me either, but pointing out the rules of the section. If it has nothing to with development, it should be in general. Think Tanks are fine, people are working on different ideas that eventual lead to root/bl unlock/s-off...
This is just a voting thread about modems, and modem will differ vastly depending on your location, so a popularity contests for modems is useless, you just have to try them and find one that suits your situation.
just my 2 cents.

This is really just a discussion about radios, so it belongs in General. It only belongs in here if its a tool, ROM, radio. Particularly one that you developed. If you are not a developer, you should probably not create new threads here.

...And then drop a marker on my shared map with your info so the community can benefit
Since this is a generalized thread (with poll) about radios, it does belong in the General section. Dont get me wrong though, this is a good idea so that people can quickly glance and see what others are using and then look at the map for their area.
Alright - I'm cool with it moving. Can I move it myself? Or does a MOD have to do it?
EDIT - Well I feel dumb. It had already been moved when I posted that.

Already moved. Red5 is a MOD. Do you wanna pop a link in the OP to my map, too? It would be good to get as much data as possible in there.
With our powers combined, we can actually get some useful info, i think.
