htc touch aka elf help please - General Questions and Answers

I have been searching google and every forum I know for hours trying to find a solution. Maybe I am just too frantic to realize the answer but I ran elf-uspl and when it failed on the second step like the walkthrough said it might, it rebooted, but instead of rebooting it froze at the windows mobile logo screen. the walkthrough said it would just reboot and I could try again but its dead. I cant hard reset or even get to the boot loader screen. i really hope I just overlooked something.

If you saying that the device is getting stuck on Win logo that means it not dead yet
Try to get into bootloader mode once again and flash back a shipped ROM for your device

unfortunately I have tried everything I can find online to get to a boot loader or even just a hard reset and nothing works. I have held the volume down button and restarted, volume up, camera button, send and end, nothing seems to do anything. anyone have an idea?

ok, I think I found the problem. I don't have a genuine htc touch, its a clone. hopefully that will help find a solution. I can't really find any real info on fixing any clones.

I have the same problem.
Have a clone htc and there is nothing on the web about it. Did you find anything?

I have this phone. Hard reset is done by holding the camera button and the green (answer call) button down while sticking the stylus into the soft reset hole.

stuck on loading splash screen

Hi, first let me say im sorry if this has already been covered somewhere, i have spent all day searching the wiki and forum to no avail. If the solution is already here please point me in the direction and delete this thread.
I have just flashed my kaiser from the original vodafone WM6 ROM to Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19716/5.2.19700. At first everything seemed fine, then when i tried to restore the backup id created with sprite backup it restored, reset and now wont get past the loading screen. It shows the vodafone splash screen then duttys htc screen then goes back to vodafone.
I used Hardspl 3.29 before flashing. I tried hard reseting which made no difference. i cant get into the bootloader (tried the camera, power reset thing loads) and i cant connect to my pc as it wont go past the splash screen.
I had a look at MTTY but it doesnt give the options described in the instructions and after reading the warnings about MTTY decided i shouldnt mess around with what i dont understand.
Any help will be greatly apreciated, i love my phone and the idea that ive just broken it scares the crap out of me.
Thanks
Sandy

first, are you SURE you can't get into bootloader?
I know it sounds stupid, but try REALLY pushing the camera button in while pushing the stylus into the reset hole. Once you get to the bootloader (tri-color screen), try flashing a different ROM
good luck

I agree here a lot of people don't realize the Camera button is a two stage button. It stops at Half-Press then you can push again to get Full Press. You need a Full Press to get into bootloader.
Just to clarify.
Press and hold the camera button and at the same time insert stylus in reset hole and hold until bootloader comes up.
In other words, do not let up until bootloader shows. It should take around 2-3 seconds.
yea ive been doing that. After trying many times i have found that holding the camera button down for around 2 minutes after the htc dutty series screen comes up brings up a white screen with the error message;
"the device is unable to boot either because you have turned off the device incorrectly or tried to install an application from an untrusted source. press send to reset or any other key to cancel"
The message dissapears if i let go of the camera button, and resets back to the vodafone screen and stays there. If i press the send button same thing happens (just an idiot check but the send button is the green pick up button right?) ive tryed the enter button and both soft keys but all to the same result. I have tried holding down each button on that screen as well and the error message stays as long as i hold the button but when i let go it just goes back to the vodafone splash screen and stays there.
I have tried holding the stylus with the camera button all the way through to this error message, doesnt seem to make a difference.
just to clarify, ive done what you suggest and still cant get into the bootloader.
Thanks for any help, this is driving me mad.
hold the camera button and use the stylus to press the reset button, and continue holding the camera button until the bootloader screen pops up.
i used to let go the camera button as soon as the screen go black, but then it just reset the device instead of going into the bootloader...
oh forgot to mention. Shotly after the dutty series screen comes up i get the window appearing sound but nothing comes on screen. suggests to me that maybe its trying to tell me whatswrong but i can see what it is. maybe, i dunno..

Im holding the camera button for around 2 minutes before it does anything, then i get the above error message.
Do you have a storage card installed?
yes. tried taking it out and doing the same thing. no different.
anything else i could try?

OK But are you also holding your stylus in the Reset Hole?
If yes, And you can't get into Bootloader, well I think you are "boned"
Yes im doing that. Boned? really? What about the error message that eventually comes up? isnt there anything i can do from there? Any other way of reseting it so maybe the bootloader works?
And if its really broken, do you recon my network will send me another or have i just properly voided the warranty?

XDA Orbit 2 Help Needed.

i attempted to run the .cab file for battery status, and when i did that it started installing then suddenly froze, then upon resetting the phone using the button on the bottom, it loads to the today screen as it were, and then freezes and will not respond atall, i know it isnt a fault with the touch screen as i have to enter my PIN before it gets to the today screen.
i am new to this so do a "dummies" guide as it was any help will be gratefully recieved.
Richard
Um i have a feeling that you may have a little problem here.
I dont know a brilliant fix for this other than to say to do a hard reset. BUT this well restore it to defult, factory settings as when you got it. So back up your phone of anything important before you do it.
To do it hold down the start and ok buttons and press the reset button. Wait for it to bring up the screen saying 'to restore press send'.
I cannot think of a reason but if its crashing i would think that it would be having problems with loading the files for today so i would guess that on the grounds that the install didnt finish it has, unfortunately corrupted some files.
ahh thanks, got it sorted now

Bootloader "No Image File"

Hey guys
I woke up this morning because I got a message. Opened it and then replied. Went to shut the screen off but the backlight remained on. So I just did a soft reset. Now the bootloader comes up and says no Image file.
What do I do?
You could try download a custom splash screen, put it on your SD and start up in bootloader mode, and then flash the new boot/splash screen
Hope this fix your problem
i figured the "image file" its looking for was the ROM?
hehe ofcourse, sry for the post before, my head is a bit screwed... i have been working on getting win 7 and NBH Utility to work together the last 2-3 days xD.
well then reflash the rom using the same method... you have Hard-SPL right?
the latest NRG is working like a charm

Were you accidentally pressing volume down when you soft reset? That's what it sounds like to me. Maybe vol. down is sticking, for whatever reason. Does another soft reset get you out of the bootloader? Somehow, I doubt that your rom just up and walked away.
no i don't think i was on volume down. and no soft or even hard reset will even work. the bootloader tri color screen pops up and flashes white real quick and says "no image file" and then goes back to the tri color screen.
so i to flash it via SD card correct?
Have you tried pulling the battery for a bit? I still wonder if you have a sticky vol down button. Replace the battery, then push power. If you're still in bootloader, then you can either flash off your card or through usb.
how do i flash it via USB? just plug it in and run the rom install?
reflashed a new rom. nothing. still sits in bootloader mode.
ok so what based on what i'm searching ive found a couple things. I pm'ed a guy, and saw something about jumpspl. But apparently this is an app that goes on the phone? because windows xp wont run it? theres not a lot out there on jumpspl so i dont have a clue. should I retry flashing hard spl?
Hold on; your sig now says you have a tilt. But you've flashed a raphael rom to it? Flash a stock rom to it with the proper spl. You should ask mskip what to do in his Kaiser-flashing thread. This does not sound good. Did the phone actually work with the wrong rom on it?
Man, from what I've read about Kaisers, they are very delicate phones. If you flashed a raphael radio to it, it's deader than Michael Jackson. Are you sure you don't have a fuze? You gotta own a fuze, and not a tilt.
its a fuze sorry i have no idea why it says tilt.
Not quite sure why, but the phone is working again...
My $ is on a stick vol down key, and I'm riding that horse to the bank!
scratch that, it broke again. how can i fix the stuck down key? is volume down and reset like wipe the device?
if the phone had the volume down key "stuck" then it would constantly turn down the volume would it not? its fine when i can acutally get the phone to boot, but i shut it off and started it back up and it did it again. i have a feeling it has something to do with the wall charger, because i reset it multiple times before i put it there, but once i charged and reset, it died.
Yeah, that's true. I say I think that's the problem because holding volume down and soft resetting sends you into the bootloader. If your sd card doesn't have a raphimg.nbh in its root, you'll get the 'no image' error message. Then, if you try to soft reset, but vol down is still somehow stuck, you'll never get out of bootloader. That's why I suggested pulling the battery earlier. When you power back on, it should just boot up normally like after a soft reset, but I might be wrong about that.
It's just not normal to randomly go into bootloader when you soft reset (and to stay there). Clearly, the phone is picking up the 'go into bootloader' signal somehow or other. Maybe it's not the physical button, but there's just some sort of bug that makes the phone think the button is being held down when you soft reset. Bummer, whatever it is, I hope you get it sorted out.
You might want to bite the bullet and hard reset. If you have some weird bug (and not a physically stuck down button) this should solve it. I bet you can hard reset ok. Hold vol down and the d-pad button and soft reset. You have to continue to hold down both buttons for a couple seconds after you soft reset. Then press vol up at the prompt.
I have hard reset a few times. I think I'm going to try not to turn off the phone unless i have to. i reset it a few times yesterday even after plugging it in for a little and its still good. i'll try it again when i get home because i need my phone during work.
thanks for your help!

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Boot Loop (stock)

I have an unlocked HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus imported from the UK to the US. Ordered from Negri Electronics.
It's not rooted or modded in any way.. Mainly because I don't know how to. As far as I know, it's running stock ICS.
I was using it normally, (using the fb messenger app if it makes any difference) when it suddenly rebooted by itself. The Google logo comes up, then the start up animation, and sometimes the home screen will appear but is not touch sensitive (i cannot slide it to unlock), and then it 'hangs' and the screen goes black. Repeat.
I've tried to fix this by myself and there's a video on youtube (sorry, noob here. can't post links. video is by robbidwv and title is "my galaxy nexus won't boot..") of the same problem that I have, but the posted solution doesn't work for me.
So far, I have entered Coin Mode and pressed Start. Entered Fastboot mode and gone into Recovery Mode (no options appear after that. it just starts booting up and the loop begins), and I've also tried Restart Bootloader.
I've almost given up. Now all I want is to extract my SMS, if they're still on my phone. I can't access the folders on my computer because it won't boot up and connect. Is there a way that I can extract my SMS by using DOS in either Coin Mode or Fastboot mode?
Or even better, does anyone have a solution to this boot loop problem? I'll contact Negri Electronics tomorrow and hopefully they can send me a replacement.
Please help!! Thanks
that problem just started happening with me an hour ago!!
i hate this!!
we need a solution please!
Hey guys, sorry about the issue.the major problem I see here is you wanting to retrieve your txt messages, which might be possible with a little Modding, but if yourwilling to lose them to get a working phone back, then this is what your going to have to do. Make sure your phone is completely off. Hold the 2 volume buttons and the power button together. You will get into a mode with an android Guy. Press the volume button up or down until it says reboot recovery at the top. Press the power button. It will rebootand come to a screen with an android. Hold volume up,down and power at the same time. A menu will come up. Go down to wipe data. Click it, and after it is done reboot. Your phone should work now.
If this helped you, or you simply appreciate me taking the time to write this out then please press the thanks button
Hey!
Thanks. Yeah I 'fixed' it already. I was just about to post something similar. After a while I just gave up on trying to recover my data. Good thing that Google syncs everything so the only issue would be recovering my messages, which I decided weren't worth sending it in for a repair which would probably not be able to recover anything anyway.
The thing I didn't know about was to press power + volume up WHILE on the recovery screen. I thought navigating to the recovery screen was it!
Still, this kind of sucks. I love my GNex, but I can't help but be slightly pissed seeing that my crappy iPhone 3GS never did this in the 2 years I had it. Oh well, hope it doesn't happen again!
hey guys! i also did a complete wipe on my phone and got it working again!
but i wonder why this happened in the first place?
last application i installed before the crash was double twist, i dunno why but i feel that it was the reason behind the boot loop!
Sorry for reviving this thread, but I just had this happen to me TWICE!
It happened to me first last Monday, the 23rd - the phone crashed when trying to send an email with an attachment - and went into a boot loop - Google logo would appear, no make it to the animation, and reboot....
I performed a full reset and things worked again. I didn't install all the apps I had before - figuring it must have been due to some app messing with the OS.
Well, it happened again to me yesterday! I was connecting to my bluetooth headset when the phone crashed and went into the boot loop. Full reset worked again, and I've installed even fewer apps - essentially only those that I use on a daily basis.
My phone is still on 4.0.1 and I'm hoping once 4.0.4 is pushed this may get resolved? I have a canadian GNex from Negri. I will call them again (I called the first time, but when the full reset worked I never contacted them again).
I would like to this this is a software issues, and not hardware.
I have the same problem. If you figure it out let me know.
Today my phone also entered a boot loop: [Google logo]->[black screen]->[vibration]->[Repeat]
I tried Recovery Mode, but this is what happens: (sorry for the link but I am not trusted with powerful tools such as outside links apparently, as I have not yet reached the maturity of a person with eight posts... )
dl(dot)dropbox(dot)com/u/53568097/Android.jpg
This is what I see when I navigate to Recovery Mode
For a split second I can see an image of an Android with spinning cogs in his innards, but then this little sad fellow appears. WTF is this?
EDIT:
Oh, and I'm running Android stock 4.0.2, never rooted or unlocked, Swedish. At the time when the phone started doing this, I was using Endomondo, and was about to set off on my bike when it died on me.
Stock ROM galaxy nexus bootlooping after wiping data also.
Hi,
My GNex went into a bootloop so i searched xda and found that factory reseting would be helping my prob. But after wiping the data also its still in going through the loop . Please help .:crying:

[Completed] Htc One M8 hardware buttons working weirdly

Hello everyone! So I've had my phone (HTC One M8) rooted and custom recovery and rom installed for a little while now. The latest rom I've installed was Android Revolution HD 22.1. I also have twrp 2.8.1.0 installed. The other day my phone got wet and started to constantly reboot itself, wouldn't shut off and stay off, would never actually start. I put it in a cup of rice for 2 days, then proceeded to plug it in to charge it. Once charged enough I tried to turn it on. It only made it the HTC One logo screen and would vibrate every 10 seconds or so. I tried rebooting several times and no matter what I did with different button combinations I could not get it to load into bootloader. Eventually with restarting different ways and "mechanically stressing" the phone (short temper lol) I managed to get it to loading into the rom itself. From there I opened hasoons all in one toolkit to reboot directly into recovery and recovered to the stock rom. So the phone will now reboot with no problem into this rom. I haven't tried reflashing the ARHD 22.1 rom again because im afraid it'll break again. However, while in the stock rom everything work fines except for the volume up button which does nothing, except for while the screen is off, if I turn my phone to landscape the camera app will open without me even pressing the volume up button. If I reboot into bootloader via the quickboot app or hasoons toolkit, my volume down button with make the cursor go up, the volume up button does nothing, and the power button does nothing. The only thing I can do in bootloader is to hold power+volume up to get the phone to reboot. I also cannot get bootloader to load by holding volume down+power. So, After all that explaining, my main question would be, do you think that the buttons are shorting in a weird way because of water damage, or do you think my software got corrupted because of all the rebooting it did? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
-Tim
Hi,
You could try a clean flash of the rom.... If you're sure the wonky buttons won't interfere with the flash, because if they do... You'll be left with no OS on the device.
Water can affect many things, especially with power on while it was wet. This will be hard to solve, and could get costly. Usually with water damage, you fix or replace one thing, only to find now that something else doesn't work. Can turn into a real money pit.
You're issue isn't so bad, but my usual advice for worse cases are save your money for a new device, because you may never get your device fully working and spend a lot of money trying to fix it.
Ah, I just saw you already asked for help in your device section. Good. ?
Then this thread can be closed, as we're here to help navigate the site, not support.
Thank you.
