the touchscreen on my mogul is cracked; part of it works, but not all. i hard resetted it in advance of getting my replacement. i have another few days till it gets here and my align screen screen wont go away. any help or ideas?
Push harder? jk
No you can't get passed that screen as far as i know without being able to hit the dots (and within a reasonable distance of them or it will start over) The reason being. that until start up fully runs, it will reload your rom every time (and i don't think you can kill the "start up" until the rom is loaded. I know it is an exe program though because i have run into it before in my windows folder.
eh... im gonna die till i get one now. lol thank you.
haha, no prob

When your unit boots up hook it up to your computer and browse your device from activesync. Go to /windows/startup and delete the welcome file. Soft reboot and you are past it!

Ok, so about a week ago I had a co-worker help me flash my VZW XV6700 with the kitchen. All WAS well until this afternoon. I got the data call error. I said ok I reset the phone and ever since then the phone will not get past the WM6 splash screen. I can't think of anything I did out of the ordinary today before I left my house I synced my contacts and was even on the phone 5 minutes before I reset it.
I have been reseting it for hours now and nothing. I am not home and can not re-flash it at the moment so I was hoping to find a software solution in the mean time so I can make calls at least.
I've removed the battery
held the windows key+ok+reset
power+reset
and nothing has gotten me past the splash screen.
Any direction would be greatly appreciated!
thanks
DASH
nothing has gotten me past the splash screen.
have you tried re-flashing? I'm actually working in a makk and can take to to a VZW stand to have them look at it if need be.
Well with help from the WIKI
This worked to restore it to right after the flash.
* Hold both softkeys ( buttons with - on them to the left of the Windows key and on the Right of the OK button)
* push in using stylus as per a soft reset.
* a prompt will appear saying "Press Y to restore Factory Default Press N to exit"
* as per the prompt, on the slide out keyboard you press Y to hard reset and N to exit.
I then restored my contacts so I am happy again! Until the next time it happens.
Ok, so far I've dumped the ROM and uploaded the kaiser-HardSPL and all was going lovely. However, after most of a day of pretty much inactivity I find the device suddenly goes very slowly. By which, I mean it can take several seconds to draw the screen.
Thinking this might be a rogue application using up all the processor cycles, I poked it up the bottom with the stick. (While doing this the first time, I held in power and camera just to see the boot loader text, but then I did it again with no buttons held.) It's a Vodafone device but it sat on the Vodafone splash screen for about 2-3 minutes then spent longer than that on the Windows Mobile screen before eventually dropping me into normality.
Except it's incredibly slow normality - I clicked on "start" and after a minute, it's not done anything yet.
Next step is a hard reset unless anyone has any better suggestion?
Help!
I assume you've pulled the battery?
Never assume anything... The full answer is, "No, but I have now"... I'm not sure that's going to do anything more than a soft (poke up the bottom) reset though. I'm now just waiting for the splash screen to subside while I'm typing this.
Having left it half an hour, while it went into standby and after noticing that the clock had stopped updating, I'm of the opinion that the already slow device has got slower...
Ok between 1 and 2 minutes to move from the splash screen to the "Windows Mobile" screen.
Now there's a turn up... After a further minute or so, I get a message, which has now cleared and gone back to the "Windows Mobile" screen before I had chance to copy it here. Basically it said that it had failed to boot either because I'd turned it off improperly or I'd installed something that it was opposed to. I should press send (I guess the green button) to reset to manufacturer's defaults.
Since that's my next stage anyway, I'll re-poke it with the pointy stick and press 'send' when it pops the message up. I'll put my trusty old Nokia N73 into flight mode and take a picture of the message so I can transcribe it here for everyone's amusement.
More news as it breaks.
I've now hit the 'send' button so it's doing a hard-reset. Meanwhile, here's the text it showed me:
Code:
The device is unable to boot be-
cause either you have turned off
the device incorrectly or tried to
install an application from untrusted
source. Press SEND to reset your
device or press any other button
to cancel. This operation will delete
all your personal data and restore
the device to its factory default
settings.
Nice. Ok, I'm at the 'tap the screen to set up your device' screen now.
Wonder what triggered all that nonsense then...
If you're like the rest of us and tooling around the all the fun programs in this forum, there's no telling.
I tell folks on computers, "Every piece of software you put on a machine is a liability to the operation of that machine." We can say that applies to this nifty little devices too.
I've had my phone experience the same symptoms you have posted here. Luckly for me a battery pull fixed mine. Sounds like the luck didn't spread much. Sorry.
Keep at it though. And don't fret the crashes. They do happen from time to time when you play hard.
So, a hard reset and a restore of a backup (Yes, I made a backup a few days ago even though I've been in the trade 20 years!) later, I'm back to normality. All I've done that's weird is install pof's loader and I can't see that's anything to do with it. What I was doing at the time of the slowdown was trying to connect to the wifi network at work. I thought the networking had just got itself tied in knots somehow but as the machine was even mega slow to boot, I can't really see that. At least I can still get back to square one at the moment.
I just need to create a .nbh out of the rom parts I dumped yesterday so that I can recover from anything more major...
Meanwhile, if you do a 'boot loader reset', would you expect it to say 'serial' if the USB isn't plugged in?
I'm starting to wonder if there is a major bug in the WiFi of the Tilt. There are some other threads on AT&T's site about this, and my work with WiFi on this unit has been dicey. Hmmmmm...
so heres a weird thing that happened last night. i was playing around with tornadopowercontrol and i accidently set cpu speed to ultra slow. it stayed workin for a few seconds and then turned off. got scared, i turn it back on, it loads to the main home screen, loads up tornadopowercontrol (had it in the startup mode -hidden) and then it turns off and reboots. Not sure why, maybe cause its still stuck in that low cpu speed? this continues to happen, not sure how to stop it.... any suggestions?
Try a hard reset! From the Wiki: "Turn off your phone, then press both soft keys next to D-Pad and power on device. After moment release both soft keys. On the black screen asking for confirmation press "green phone" button and wait couple minutes for phone to initialize"
Sync it and edit your Power_On.lnk inside \Windows\ and put it back to whatever speed you had it at,
I don't think he can get it to this point!
thanks a lot!!!!
I was just about to try the ultra slow thingy

lol no problem ya couldn't sync it to reset it back to original settings. ultimately required a hard reset hope i have my stuff backed up somewhere! lol i tried puttin it to a lower settin cause i was just listening to music and didnt' think i needed it running at 252. but i guess 116mhz is much to low, anyone know wats probably the safest (and lowest) speed it can run at?
i had a similar problem but managed to solve it without hard reset. i powered up the phone with pc cable connected ... lucklly it was able to connect through ActiveSync before programs from startUp and i`ve managed to overwrite the file.
my vox works ok even with 140 as lower setting but SmartToolKit seems to lockup way too often ... right now i`m using 164 and i haven`t see a lockup in about a week or so.
264 seems to be the upper limit (damn rocket) , beyond that it start to act crazy.

is the 264 mhz stable? or does it lock up? anything with smartoolkit locks up i just turn it off nowadays
i attempted to run the .cab file for battery status, and when i did that it started installing then suddenly froze, then upon resetting the phone using the button on the bottom, it loads to the today screen as it were, and then freezes and will not respond atall, i know it isnt a fault with the touch screen as i have to enter my PIN before it gets to the today screen.
i am new to this so do a "dummies" guide as it was any help will be gratefully recieved.

Um i have a feeling that you may have a little problem here.
I dont know a brilliant fix for this other than to say to do a hard reset. BUT this well restore it to defult, factory settings as when you got it. So back up your phone of anything important before you do it.
To do it hold down the start and ok buttons and press the reset button. Wait for it to bring up the screen saying 'to restore press send'.
I cannot think of a reason but if its crashing i would think that it would be having problems with loading the files for today so i would guess that on the grounds that the install didnt finish it has, unfortunately corrupted some files.
ahh thanks, got it sorted now
this morning, i found it odd how slow the touch screen reaction was but didn't think much of it until it just completely stopped responding.
i pressed lock/red button a little too long trying to figure out how to do a hard reset (had a full system back up from 2 nights ago to restore from) and now i can't get the unit to unlock itself! i'm also having a hard time hard resetting the phone as well. i followed a few directions found but none of them worked so... what is really the right way of doing this? i tried connecting to my laptop and do a complete ROM upgrade (not really, just installing it) but i can't get it to connect either!
HELP! what to do!
ok, so i got it unlocked by constantly tapping the unlock and somehow, someway, it decided to give me the unlock on the right center part of the screen. then i pounded away at it over and over again until it is now back to... well, the unlock mode. only problem: it's SUPER slow to the point where it feels unresponsive at all. i can tap away at it for 10 minutes and it would only recognize i wanted to click, start.
ok, so now what happened? thanks for any input.
