I use a combination of Aurorisoft's DotPocket for projecting the Pocket PC screen to my PC, and then use SnagIt 7 to capture the screen.
You could use Microsoft's free offering (Remote Display Control) for the projecting the screen part.

The Universal's screen is made up of 640 by 480 pixels (ie VGA)
However, Windows Mobile is made for QVGA (ie Quarter VGA, or 320 by 240) screens
So, our devices run in QVGA mode (also known as 96dpi(dpi=dots (ie pixels) per inch)) by standard, by making every 4 "hardware" pixels display one "software" pixel (hence making the VGA screen run at QVGA resolution)
So, to show you the common resolutions for the HTC Universal:
Code:
DPI Resolution Resolution Name Hardware to Software Pixel Ratio
96 320x240 QVGA 4:1
128 512x384 ??? 9:4
192 640x480 VGA 1:1
RealVGA is a piece of software that allows our PDA's to run at the three above resolutions
Hope this helps...
(ps. Sorry for the many edits - trying to make information as clear as possible)
As long as the real VGA is a hack software, why HTC makes an expensive and high battery consuming hardware for a non-supportive software?? i.e., neither HTC nor Microsoft has released any OS that supports the Real VGA resolution, what could be the rational behind the production of a device with VGA screen??
thanks buddy i have been searching looking out for the difference from long time but no one seemed to know it by the way i have the real vga software in my uni according to you which is the best resolution i should put it on to work best??

The thing is that certain apps support "High Resolution" (ie VGA) mode, for instance Pocket IE (on WM6)
Also, using multiple hardware pixels per software pixels allows for antialiasing

Personally I prefer the higher resolutions (128dpi looks good, 192dpi is a little too small); however, there are a couple of problems. Firstly, due to poor programming, some applications (especially those that come with WM6 in the settings menu) don't scale their text properly, leading to missing text on higher resolutions. Secondly, I'm short-sighted so I need the bigger buttons\font
My advice to you is just to try the other resolutions. It does no harm to the device, and you can revert it to the default (or a different resolution) by using the RealVGA program again (so no danger of getting "stuck" in a resolution)
thank you very much for your help sir much appreciated

Hello
I also appreciate this program. However, I have noticed one very unpleasant (at least for me) bug. When there is an incoming call in landscape mode, you couldn't see who is calling (no matter which resolution is set at this moment, even the initial one - according to my understanding this is 192 dpi from the program menu) - caller id info is corrupted - cropped text and photo. I have experienced this bug with 2 wm6 ROMs - JW's and Mo3ulla's. Moreover, in some cases the problem still exists even after uninstall of the RealVGA program. I'm using this version - Real.VGA.for.WM6.v1.1.
Any help or ideas?

Thats not the RealVGA program then, thats your dailer skin (or the skin it applies to the pop-up displaying the person calling)
Additionally, (as I wrote in the wiki) I have no idea who maintains the RealVGA application or where their homepage is

Which WM6 ROM are you using? Do you have such a problem, after installing the RealVGA program?

See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327830
In my understanding, this is the developer: tobias.waldvogel
And it seems that the application is developed for HTC Athena.

I do remember having that problem (and can't remember if it still happens - I'm using JWright's 2.12.04 at the moment)
I don't have RealVGA installed at the moment - however, RealVGA shouldn't change anything if you are running at the default resolution (ie 96dpi)
Hi! May be somebody knows how to connect outside VGA device, like video glasses? Is it possible?
Very puzzled! Help!

Thanks very much for this explanation. It seems very straightforward: the more dpi the more you can cram into the screen, right? So, the smaller things will look....but HERE is where I am confused! The pictures in the thread about RealVGA seem to show that with 96 dpi, the same content seems very small on screen! I am really puzzled here. Please, explain!
From what I gather, 192 dpi is QVGA resolution in a VGA screen like Uni while 96 dpi (realVGA) is native VGA on a VGA screen. So you're absolutely right that 96 dpi should allow a VGA device like the Uni to display 640x480 resolution on a 320x240 screen.
Try to google for "VGA Demystified" by Menneisyys. The article is old but has great insights on VGA stuffs.
How does this work on my new samsung i780 which has a 320X320 resolution? which part should I install?
I have a software that shows full screen only on QVGA (small window on VGA), I found this "Prog Reso Swap v1.0" free software that makes QVGA Window full on VGA screen and I tried it but never succee. Can anyone help me to try if work with you? Or if there is any solution to show QVGA window full screen on VGA.
Thanks in advance
"Prog Reso Swap v1.0" Software link
please...any solution?
Search for something called RealVGA that I think the guys talk about changing screen resolution so you can use software for different resolutions on VGA.

I just tried it. realVGA to make nonQVGA screen->VGA but I am looking for QVGA software fullscreen on VGA screen.
thank you
I still feel this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358657 and this other one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327830 could help. They talk about the different dpi you can get on a VGA screen. There is a sample with pictures of the look of the different dpi options and links to downloads. If the QVGA option is not for you, I am really confused now! sorry I cannot help further.

RealVGA : makes QVGA screen device -> VGA (usefull for QVGA device uses to run VGA software)
I need : VGA screen device -> QVGA (to run QVGA software full screen in VGA)
thanks for this information.
I too have been looking for something like this. For instance, I would love to see the original HTC home in VGA but full screen and not 1/4 the size which is what you get when you install it on a VGA device. If there was a way to get the HTC home to display in VGA where it takes up as much space as the QVGA device, then we will be in business.
Guys,
I've just upgraded to the Touch Pro and used to use My Mobiler on my old Windows mob that used to be 320x240. It looks as if the increased screen res to 480x640 causes this a problem as I only see the top left portion of the screen even though it correctly detects the res on the little popup window on the PC.
I think the software is great and asked about this on the My Mobiler forum.
Has anyone made their TP work with this or do you guys use different software to remote to the phone?
Cheers,
D.
I used My Mobiler on my Raphael with no issues whatsoever. Worked perfectly, screen shots were of great quality, everything was good.

Works fine on my TP.
I had this problem with My Mobiler as well.
If you have the "skin" displayed then you only see about 1/4 of the screen. Simple solution (for me anyway) - enable the showing of the menu bar/switch skin off. Now I see the entire screen on my PC.

Hello.
I use a HTC HD2 with ScummVM 1.0.0rc1 for WindowsCE.
I have noted that ScummVM doesnt use the full screen even if i toggle away the ScummVM Menu-Bar. Even then remains a black empty-space under the game-screen with the size of the ScummVM Menu-Bar.
I've tried to zoom with the Zoomer but unfortunately there appears the "zoombox" which remains on the screen and covers part of the gamescreen until you zoom completely out.
Does maybe anyone know a solution to zoom in ScummVM without that Zoombox, or is there a way to make disappear that box after a few seconds?
Thanks in advance.

scummvm does not work on full screen because all scummvm games are vga resolution, you could try a wvga fix but that will just stretch the image
(in options i belive u chosed full screen and 2x and restarted the app )

Thats the solution for fullscreen! Many Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Maybe in future an update for the Zoomer will be released that eliminates the zoombox. Then Scumm VM will be perfectly playable on the HD2.
Was just looking for this myself and it seems by choosing 2x and full screen mode once the you press volume down button the keyboard/menu dissapears and it maximizes the screen... Just played Full throttle for the first time in 15 years.. amazing.. really brilliant
