Phone reception - Touch Pro, Fuze General

How is your phone reception?
Mine sometimes sucks in areas where the Tilt worked flawless.
Could it be the phone or radio?
Tried stock ATT .32 and Blackstone .14. I may consider swapping it (oh well back to stock SPL and ROM, but would like to hear other opinions first.

try .28 it´s the best I had! It also makes the GPS better/ less lag!

I do not have major lag or lock issues with the GPS but downloading what's in your sig while I type.

Great, let us know how it goes!

i think compared to the tilt the reception on the fuze IS HORRIBLE

eboy, I assume you are in the greater LA area 818 area code (looking at your location). I went last week to Palms Springs and had full blast 3G and good call quality but LA ... sucks

and today i had THE BEST and yet CLEAREST sound and reception thus far with my device.
so i gotta say its the device.

I've had the opposite experience, reception on my Fuze is actually a little better than my Tilt, and I have gotten signal in a few areas up here my Tilt didn't. This is a very rural area, so that says something about it.

L.A. ROCKS!

@JStar...
Tell me more. You flashed back to stock SPL and wasted 10 min. to put ATT crap on it (upps I meant wonderful customized ATT ROM), went to the store and they gave you a new one?

Sometimes but not recently especially if you have to call somebody 3 times moving around like a rooster for the hen to be lucky to catch a good signal.
The Tilt had 2 to 3 bars "H" at home, with the Fuze I'm happy IF I get H which dropped immediately when I start a browser not even thinking about a download.

@ that guy over there
pretty much..i reflashed the original ROM packed everything back in the box and drove my ass to the mall after work.
the rep spent more time looking for the items in the box..then actually noticing the fact that there was a HUGE ding in the top right on the metal or the scratch that ran right down the middle of the screen.
she asked whats wrong with it..i looked her square in the face and said, i keep dropping calls. ( ive had cingular/at&t for about 6 yrs and i can count on one hand how many calls ive dropped. )
and that was it..quick and easy 20 mins tops. i wound up getting the body glove-like case while i was there for $20 bucks ( instore discount for the holidays ) i felt obligated for what i had done, and thats it.
The End.
Late,

im out in woodland hills in the san fernando valley and my phone gets service but as soon as i touch it or pick it up it looses service right away....its really annoying

Same here eboy
BTW I'm just over the hill, work in Chats home in SIM/MPK (so we are quote on quote neighbors - LOL).

I'm in the inland empire and my signal strength is flaky at home, but on the road it's good.. here at home it can drop down to edge near the middle of my house.. but if i lock it to WCDMA it'll still hold onto a signal so it doesn't completely lose it, just passes the threshhold to jump over to gsm..
My Sierra Wireless 881u gets comparable signal levels in the same areas. I seem to remember the tilt actually being slightly worse, but it's been a while since I had it. My GSM service is always better (850 vs. 1900)
Maybe at some point they'll swap the frequency assignments it'll be better

haha yea tyguy hopefully there will be some new STRONGER radio roms or im going to have to sell the fuze and go back to my tilt,
in my area tho i feel that the xperia x1 radio rom is the strongest...for now

Eu Touch Pro vs. "Fuze" USA Touch Pro

Hey loyal HTC fan here. Been using 8125 (Wizard) for 2+ years now. Me and the ol' faithful have been through it all..thick and thin. Unfortunately, the phones life is prettty much over and now I'm upgrading. (I've already decided to get a Touch Pro).
Right now, I'm living near LOTS of tall buildings and barely get 30% signal within my apartment and whenever someone calls they complain I keep breaking up unless I'm literally next to certain windows. While I'm struggling in my own house with my phone my family who has 3G phones have no issues. My poor soul has yet to truly experience 3G. I was about to buy a Euro Touch Pro when I had the doubt of whether or not I would get 3G with it when Fuze starts (yeah the long debates about the 3g, I know I'm sorry for bringing it up).
Do you guys feel I should buy a Eu Touch Pro now or just wait 2 weeks and see what happens with Fuze and go for an American one. Either way, I'm getting one...I just dont know what I should do because I NEED to be able to talk at home comfortably without missing calls etc
I say just wait off a lil bit and see what how things go down with the Fuze. You'll get a better price and no waiting for it to get shipped, and although with your current location 3G seems useless, but it might come in handy later on.

One week with the fuze (almost) thoughts..

Well Tomorrow will mark one week with the fuze and I'm not really sure if I'm as thrilled with it as I should be for the 300 bones.
I was lucky enough to have a Real HTC touch pro before my fuze which I sold when I found out it would not do 3g. Over all I was happy with it. I paid 500 for it and didnt really feel bad about it. Everything just seemed to work. The light sensor the g sensor all worked on cue. The menus were snappy and even the gps worked flawlessly. The reception didnt just randomly go out.
This is what I expected from the fuze and its been a major let down. My sister was supose to get one with me the same day and opted for the iphone and after the week with the fuze I'm half tempted to go get an iphone.
Has any one else had the same post touch pro experiance with their fuze? Should I wait a week or two and take it bak for a diffrent one and see if a later build helps?
I hate to say this but I'm really liking the iphone it just works. If I didnt travel overseas so much I would prob just go get one tmrw but I hate the idea of being locked down to the damn att sim when I'm outside the US.
Thoughts?
What problems are you having? Mine is working great! Much snappier than my Tilt!
Yeah, after flashing I have no issues that are bugging me in any way. Battery seems to be doing pretty good and all around has been very stable.
no regrets with my fuze either. there are some minor issues, but nothing that can sway me to iphone. I just love the ability to do all kinds of things on the fuze that u can't do on iphone
and yeah...what problem are you referring to!? flash the rom if you're referring to the AT&T ROM...that thing is filled with junk and makes the phone run way too slow. I flashed with ROMeOS2 1.40. Not perfect, but damned close to it. Should give it a try when you get a chance!
And fortunately, battery life is good on my fuze. I'm definitely squeezing more juice out of it than my friend's iphone can. Not to mention i'm going to be getting a spare battery soon~
Well, you can unlock the iPhone so that you're not tied to an ATT sim I just unlocked, jailbroke and fake activated one for my brother in law to use with T-Mobile and he is loving it.
That said, the first thing I will do with my Fuze when it arrives is to get rid of the bloated ATT ROM it comes with. That always makes a world of difference. Don't go iPhone until you try that
I've had mine since Friday. I used the stock ATT ROM for about a day, then I flashed to NotATreoFan's ROM, which is basically the stock ROM with all the junk removed.
I upgraded from the Tilt, and so far this thing is MUCH snappier than the Tilt, much lighter and a little smaller (although still thick).
The only thing flaky for me so far is the GPS. It just takes a long time to get a lock (although I've been trying indoors and not outside). I haven't driven with it to test the lag issue that people are talking about. My Tilt would pickup a lock in my living room within 30 seconds most of the time, always under a minute. The Fuze seems to take 2-5 minutes. I'm not sure if its GPS antenna just isn't as strong for indoor use or what.
I flashed to the Blackstone radio today and so far my reception seems to be 1-2 bars better than the stock radio, but it hasn't helped GPS any.
I've only had my Fuze since Friday (when it was released down here) and my only major gripe is the left/right Dpad buttons. I just end up avoiding them alltogether.

The fuze , ahh how we all wanted it badly and waited month by month for its epic release. I, for one, am underwhelmed by the fuze, though not by comparison to any other phone.
It just seems that the phone is capable of so much, but theres not much to do on the device. Like i get bored with the phone it seems. I am seriously contemplating returning the device this week, and just returning to my nokia e71, which is a superb phone.
Just my two cents guys.
thanks
ak88
My two cents:
Love the phone.
Only bad part:
Finger print magnet
Slides other way to tilt =/ I got used to it though
Major gripe!:
Fking! enter is too big! and backspace is too small! ugh. I use on-screen keyboard mostly though since the vga resolution is much more responsive. Or it's just a mental thing.
Allright one issue is the gps is flaky... but everyone seems to be having some kind of issue with the gps. Locking on is a bit hit or miss and when I do get a lock my speed just goes to 0 randomly in igo8 then back up to the speed then 0. My Touch pro did none of this.
Second issue is it just randomly looses reception and will take a min or 2 to regain it. its almost like it switches into flight mode then out randomly.
For some reason I get alot of "message failed to send would you like to resend" happend four times yesterday and I had recetion the entire time.
As far as the bloat goes Im currently running it bloat free. I did the reset after intial setup to bypass the AT&T crap load, then ran the milan file and the security file. What is the diffrence with this to flashing the rom?
I agree with ak88 the phone is seems like the phone could be so capable alot of cool stuff but it was just hurried out or something. Maybe it would be better to just take it back and pick it back up in a few months when all you wizards of roms fix the damn thing.
I just wish my 8525s gps was built in :-( Id be on my way back to at&t right now and get my money back. Maybe I will super glue my gps to the back of it
Love my Fuze and all the baggage it brings.
Sorry to tell you but no phone with all these capablities will just work.
My uncle pulled out the Sprint touch pro and showed it to me yesterday. He was mad exited.
This the movement my man.

I dont really agree with that. There are other phones on the market with the same specs that do just work.
Don't get me wrong Im all about HTC my 8525 is great. I guess it will just take a bit to get the bugs worked out.
Worth it! The only problem I have is the battery. It won't even last 12 hours!
I am really think it is my battery. I will try to get a new battery from the manufacturer since the stores don't have the batteries yet, at least here in NY.
I love the phone so far.
I hate to say it but I haven't seen one device in the last 5 years (which does more than just answer calls and send texts) that just works right out of the box with no modifications or settings change. I haven't exactly tried all of them either.
The more functionality you add the more issues you introduce, plain and simple. Look at the iphone...they locked most of the functionality from the users but also reduced a lot of bugs. Once the app store came into play look at how many more firmware updates they have had to fix issues yet still lack basic functionality.
The G1? Major security flaws right out of the gate and had to update twice now I think if I remember right just to keep it secure at all.
My wife's Razr though...0 issues...but you can do almost nothing on it.
/rant
I like my new Fuze.
I'm hoping to score the Euro TP backshell, the rubberized fauceted version, so it isn't such a finger print magnet.
It's all about putting on the custom ROMs. Waaay better than the ATT stock ROM that you get out of the box.
i have both the iPhone and the Fuze. both are really cool. but side by side, the Fuze is WAY better.
iPhone battery life is a joke.
the Fuze battery is nothing wonderful, but it is hands down better than the iPhone. not to mention, the Fuze's battery is user replaceable. the Iphone you have to send to Apple to change the battery. which is what you have to do after 400 charges.....
and just wait for the developer to package all the tweaks together in one 'super' rom. the Fuze will rule....
The seventh day...
I have had my Fuze since Tuesday last. Here are my initial impressions.
1. Got rid of TF3D - it is beautiful and very slick, but not an efficient use of the home screen. I switched to running PocketBreeze in full screen mode and using phoneAlarm and the 2day4pay skin as my today screen. Now I can launch my favorite programs with 2 touches at most and get a better handle on my day's activities at a glance. I will miss that very sweet weather animation however.
2. The GPS thing. Yep. Had it. Ran GPS Test until I got a fix and have not had a problem with Goog Maps ever since. Lag? I am not seeing it at all and I am driving through the streets of Providence (enough small streets for the lag to show itself, not enough tall buildings to shade the satellite signal).
3. The BlueTooth thing (where the sound - when you answer and incoming call - disappears). Yep. Had that too and that - my friends - could have been the deal breaker. But I deleted all my headset pairings. When I re-paired them I started with a non-A2DP-supporting headset (JawBone 2). When I paired my A2DP one (Plantronics something with the removable second earpiece) I only got one option under the advanced settings: "Stereo...". Before, I got "HandsFree" and "Stereo...". Since the Plantronics is set, I have sound when answering calls on all 3 BT sets I use (JB2, Plantronics and BlueAnt V1).
Other than that, I miss the scroll wheel - though less than I thought I would and - in general, really like the design (fingerprint magnetics aside). I am now about to find out how well the battery lives off the charger and know I have some work to do to get the thing to hand-up the 3G connection quickly after downloading data as that is a big battery drain.
Summarizing as everybody else:
unusable 5-way pad (undeterministic behavior) unless one does special finger acrobatics
bad/underperforming 3G/H
very slow to lock GPS
broken AGPS
GPS still a huge battery drain (compared to SiRFIII)
useless PTT button unless one hacks it
fairly useless smart touch scroll and not a good replacement for the missing jog-wheel
volume buttons fairly useless for anything else (although plus of volume control anytime), and can't be used as jog-wheel.
slider that blocks the volume and PTT buttons
auto backlight never dims below 3
ATT logo eating screen space in Manila
pointless HOME button
low GLbenchmark values (worst than even Touch Pro)
finger-print magnet on all surfaces and will actually start crusting (unlike Kaiser)
cheap-plastic back that starts wearing immediately on the diamond "points"
So, the major bads. The good is well-mentioned already.
This is my first smartphone, so I'm less knowledgable than most.
But I can already tell that I should be getting much faster HSDPA speeds. Also GPS has never worked for me. I also wish it could be a bit snappier when rotating.
Though this is my first smartphone, I've already replaced the default themes, have already done regedit tweaks for speed, HSDPA, PTT button reassignment, etc.
I'd like to think I'm coming along nicely, but I want to know if I should try to replace the stock AT&T rom with ROMeO
My 2 Cent's
I agree with much of what has already been said (so i'll not repeat it) We are the early adopters and living on the tech edge we share our findings here and the many who unlock, tinker & cook take their own ideas and our observations and try to make these devices better. There is a cost for living on the edge. Just my thoughts on the matter. I have a Fuze and will flash until I am happy or until I move on to something else (had an iphone for about 3 weeks and sold it because I felt too restricted and was tired of re-jail breaking it)
cheers
BR

AT&T reception???

This is going to end up being more of a rant then anything else I have a feeling because I know the basic answer to my question so, just a fair warning.
I live in the north eastern part of Pennsylvanian right next to New York and New Jersey and my reception with my Fuze is godawful I get one maybe two bars of edge inside the house and have to go outside to make any kind of a call. My wife has a propel and my son a Balckberry that all get two to three bars on same plan as my phone. Now I would expect a phone like the Fuze that is know to be more of a high end phone to have comparable service to a propel but surprise its ab out 15 times worse. Now I have flashed the radio with a few blackstone radios and that kinda helped but not much, still cant make a call in the house. So I guess my question is this, Is there anyone around the same area that has had any luck with different radios? I'm going to keep flashing to see what I can come up with but I'm really about feed up with AT&T, because they are crippling an amazing device.

No phone calls in Basement ?

Just curious if it is a standard smartphone issue, with poor service, or none at all down in Basements ? I know the cell phone uses radio waves, and that does not travel through steel beams or concrete too well, if at all, right ?
Funny thing is, I can send and receive texts with little problems down here in my Basement office, but making or getting calls are like 10% at best, or just not happening period. Is that more of a T-Mobile issue, or just that my nuclear bomb proof shelter I built to prepare for end days in 2012 the problem ? lol

If your in a basement surrounded by concrete walls then ya your going to have some signal issues, but to make it worse Tmobile has horrible building penetration

Yeah right behind me is the 8' tall concrete exterior wall. And no windows here in Office.
Texting seems to be pretty darn good, sending and receiving no issue, but calls are the opposite, like nonexistent. With my EVO on Sprint, it was better for phone calls, not perfect by any means, But I would say 50% on calls.
But I do like my Nexus-S better than the EVO. Just the lightweight and compact form factor of the N-S is so sweet. The EVO now feels like a heavy thick brick, and that battery sucked balls on the EVO. And I love the Super AMOLED screen, looks so colorful. I like the 4" screen sixe, not too small like iPhone 3.5", and not overly large like the EVO 4.3".
But Sprint was perfect service for me, I mean 99.99% perfect, and T-Mobile is like 80% good, and my old iPhone3G on ATT was craptastic at like 50% for service.

Is that something that can be updated with better towers or something ? Or is it a hardware issue on the radio inside all their phones, and I am just stuck with **** Basement service.
Does T-Mobile sell a device that can boost their signal inside buildings ? Or is that super expensive for corporations only ?
Time to crawl out of the bomb proof shelter once in awhile I guess
The only time I've had problems with T-Mobile was at my university in our student union building, which was basically a maze of concrete and cinderblock hallways.
The frequencies t-mobile uses for 3g is very high up in the spectrum which has poor building penetration properties. Lower is better, like 850mHz. Nothing you can do about it.

General rule of thumb is that if zombies and Nazis can't get to you, you probably wont get good signal.

[Q] Signal Strength issues?

So I really like my Atrix 2, however i've noticed that my signal strength isn't nearly as good as it has been been with my last couple phones, OLD Moto Q9h and a TP2 (yes this is my first Android phone so that could be part of it). I was wondering if anyone else had seen any issues with it. I've been using it in the exact same places as the other two phones and the number of bars seem to differ greatly, actually sitting in the same spot as i do everyday, it jumps around a lot.
I know with other phones (WM6.5) there were Radios that would make a difference, is there something similar to that for Android phones and will i have to wait till the bootloader? If anyone can help out it would be much appreciated.

You can't compare "bars" between different model phones. I have zero problems with my A2. If anything it's consistently better than the iP4 it replaced.
Compare by dBm my two phones side by side show the same signal strength.
Atrix 2| Backflip
-95dBm | -95dBm
Never had a dropped call or even static, fuzziness, or weak signal indoors and outdoors. Probably the best out of all of my phones i've had so far.
Mine has same dead spot as my ip4 in my house.
Id be very irritated if my house had a deadspot at all >.<
I've had no problems with mine at all. Personally I think it picks up better then my OG did
